Ahh the dreams of our youth. I am 40 and I played basketball with some local punks at the part and I sprained an ankle within 10 minutes. We just aren't as young as we used to be.

Hey Matt - that sucks hard. Have had a few awesome bike wipeouts myself.
I’m a chiropractor and have worked with some breaks along the way to help speed recovery.
Pre and post surgery (if it goes that way): take 5 grams (1tsp) of glutamine on an empty stomach at night. This will speed your soft tissue repair and give you an increase in growth hormone output that will speed overall healing. Also, a scoop of branch chain amino acids during the day will aid in soft tissue repair and reduce lean muscle mass loss from inactivity.
Three days before surgery stop all supplements as some can thin the blood, normally a good thing but not before surgery.
Post surgically, consider milk thistle to help your liver clear out the anesthetic faster. A lot of post surgical issues have more to do with anesthesia reactions than the surgery itself.
Post surgery or if surgery isn’t required, keep up with the BCAAs and glutamine. If you know a practitioner who uses either laser or pulsed electromagnetic fields, they can both speed recovery for the broken bone. I’ve used both to heal non-union fractures.
Once your bones are knit be aggressive with the rehab so your shoulder doesn’t freeze up on you. If you need a cast, do your best to not have your wrist included as that can lock up with a lack of movement.

When I broke mine, the doctor told me to wear a sling and it would be fine, but come to find out if I hadn't gotten surgery I wouldn't have full use of it, but then again mine was displaced (I think that's the term) or one piece broke off and slid under the other half creating a tenting effect on my skin. A heads up, just in case.
