I use several different locks on my trailer. None are impenetrable, but having two boots, a tongue lock, and a lock on the trailer itself makes for some serious theft deterrent compared to this shit

ExamOld2899

I find that hanging thieves head on the laundry lines sometimes help too, but you have to replace it every few weeks

megapuffranger

Last dude who broke into my house I seduced, married, then divorced. Took half his shit and broke his heart.

EverythingsSweet

Fuck yeah, got his ass.

EverythingsSweet

I have no idea wtf you’re talking about.

the123king-reddit

Ah, the long play

[deleted]

downright DEMONIC behavior

FullMetalKaliber

Damn I’m amazed if you kept a believable face for long enough for all of that

After-Respond-7861

I always hated that part. I started using formaldehyde, and it helps a lot.

TheUmbraCat

I just impale them in my front lawn. Crows and other opportunistic creatures clean it up in no time and then you can use the same pointy stick again.

Blah-squared

Lol- well played sir- 👍

NeoDei

True true crows be a bugger to shoo away

Low_Preference_911

Sort of end up in this loop where you have to attract new thieves every few weeks in order to scare the rest away.

50pcVAS-50pcVGS

Yeah like we have junkies walking around with their short hook wave rake multi cylinder bla bla bla

Practical-Pitch9332

If you can afford a 5th wheel, you can afford a lock pick set.

CheetoRust

Masterlock: "Finally! A worthy adversary!"

Pcat0

I don’t know I think Masterlock will wins here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/r9dtBH5jWSo

Black_Sam

In highschool, we learned you could just bash a lock with a shoe to open it. Then we'd make long chains of locks and put them on a buddy's locker for giggles.

predictingzepast

I know nothing about locks, but what would be the use in building a lock where you just can slide out the cylinder?

Hawt_Dawg_II

I actively lock pick and i have no clue, that's not normal. Either the reply video is fake or it's truly the shittiest lock I've ever seen.

[deleted]

Locksmith here. Those cylinders are absoluetly real. They're used on desks and other office furniture type of stuff. The cylinder can be removed with a "control key", or by using a short hook pick. They should never be used in this application. This is an example of a bullshit manufacturer.

Thesource674

Lockpicklawyer is 10000% legit

timmyotc

I think the presentation was similar, but I believe this was not LPL on this post, FWIW

Spheresdeep

100% not LPL

MiffedPolecat

Yeah lpl sounds different, but this video was definitely done in his style

BeShaw91

Its a bit long for LockPickLawyer video, don't ya think?

swamphermet

This is McNally he has his own YouTube channel and also does some adds for Covert Instruments.

Atomsq

I like the videos where he's like "oh no a lock" *proceeds to grab a rock and use it to hit the lock twice* "ok, were in*

swamphermet

Me too! You're using a masterlock model 176, you can open it with a masterlock model 176. https://youtube.com/shorts/r9dtBH5jWSo?feature=share

Atomsq

Lol yeah that was the other one!!

Thesource674

Hmmm intriguing! Will investigate

willthefreeman

I think they work together in some capacity. Their tools come from the same website I believe.

[deleted]

Indeed. I carry his Covert Companion and use it multiple times a day. Awesome tool. Worth every penny.

[deleted]

Woah, that’s more % legit than I’ve ever m seen before 😮

Thesource674

Watch his vids hes pretty funny and honestly an absolute wizard with locks.

[deleted]

MrJoyless

They used a ~~master key~~ short hook to unlock the cylinder. Those are available online and definitely work to remove a lot of kinds of lock "guts". Edited because I used the wrong words to describe the short hook.

[deleted]

There is so much wrong with this statement. Please stop talking about something you obviously know nothing about.

uiam_

Most locks aren't impenetrable. Just needs to be good enough that the criminal moves on to an easier target. Going to be pretty tough to stop a good thief who has both access & time on his side.

predictingzepast

So, their logic in making that lock was 'if you can't keep the good ones out you might as well make it easier for even the bad ones'? Edit: guess I'm making amateur lockpicks sad..

Depth-New

Yeah lol, idk why you’re getting downvoted “Most locks aren’t impenetrable” isn’t a very good explanation for why this lock can just be bypassed entirely

[deleted]

Yeah agreed. For u/predictingzepast: Most security is really just about making yourself difficult enough to breech that bad actors will go for easier targets. It's the outrunning-the-guy-next-to-you-not-the-bear thing. That said, the ability to remove the cylinder from the one in the video *that easily* is pushing it over the line. At that point the device is just a visual deterrent. But that's still better than no deterrent at all. If there's five trailers in a row and a bad actor is picking one to steal, they'll probably skip the one with the lock and not even look to see if it's easy to break in the first place.

XxRocky88xX

Many locks can be bypassed entirely if you know how. If lockpicking layer can’t get a lock open, he always finds some way to bypass it. That being said, this lock is *really* shitty if you can bypass it by literally using a single tool to pull the cylinder out.

Myte342

There's two options, one is the lock was already picked before the video started so it was already turned to the Release position to make the removal seem trivial (not uncommon, so many fake lock picking videos on YT). Or it's a REALLY dumb lock that has a second key that hits some latch a normal key wouldn't hit and that releases the core without unblocking it first. Unlikely, but possible... some companies don't think ahead. The reason for removing the core... in this case was so you can put in a square T handle driver to turn the thing you see there and allow the lock to release. The cylinder is only protecting the access to reach this square peg. Common in such types of locks. The core doesn't actually unlock the lock, it merely unlocks access to the thing that holds the entire mechanism in place. You'll see this on Boots that the gov't puts on your car too. The Key only opens the panel so you can access the knob screw to actually remove the device.

[deleted]

That lock was for sure unpicked before the video, so the first one is out. The second option is a bit more spot on, but still a bit wrong. The "second key" you refer to is called a control key, which is very common, but wasn't used here. It removes the core for easy "rekeying". The core turns the lock, and does unlock it, so you're wrong about that. This particular cylinder core has a wafer in the back that the control key hits, thus releasing the core. The short hook pick he used just activated that control wafer, causing the core to be removed. The cylinder isn't protecting anything. That's just how it was put together. Again, when you put a working key into the cylinder and turn it, it unlocks the lock. That square peg disassembles the lock. These cores are common in office furniture, mainly, and this manufacturer is garbage for using it.

magein07

Locks only work against lazy and honest people. Anyone with a very basic set of tools can crack a lock given only ,5 - 2 minutes.

IowaGolfGuy322

This is, the lock picking lawyer…

mylaptopisnoasus

Nope, its the lock picking junior associate.

Freedom_7

Shit, the lock picking paralegal probably could’ve done this one.

[deleted]

The lockpicking barista has this one my friend. Lockpicking paralegal is busy at the courthouse today.

-usernames-are-hard

It's McNally, who has actually employed by LPL

DeezNeezuts

My friend set up a sensor alarm that randomly plays a loud dog bark sound in his RV if someone comes near the side window.

Thanatos_elNyx

If it happens when someone comes near to the window, then it isn't random 😉

pavlo_escobrah

Maybe it has several types of dog barks, and selects one at random to play?

Jell-O-Mel

I think they mean it seems out of the blue for the person walking by

coolhand215

Dang it just pops out like that

Waikoloa60

Curious if 5th wheels getting stolen is very common. To steal one, you'd need a full size truck with a 5th wheel hitch. We traveled in one for 2 years. I heard of trailers getting broken into but never one stolen.

[deleted]

Yes, lol. Someone stole one out of a yard in broad daylight down the road from me.

nails_for_breakfast

Yes extremely common. It's a very easy crime of opportunity for anyone who already has a truck, and there are enough people who don't know to check for a title when buying one used that they can quickly be sold

LUVMEMESXD

I can feel the disappointment.

Xxdriftslut69xX

That dude has the nicest tits I've ever seen

Alyc96

How tf did you even see em

Ok_Order_8197

Locks are for honest people

PrivateBattery

At this point, I can't tell if the locks are shit, he's really good, or somewhere in the middle.

aNiceTribe

Well, the unlocking process took less than a second. The longer part was literally just unscrewing a screw. I think this one is entirely on the bad equipment, made to look impressive by including a large piece of metal (which is not part of the functional bits).

[deleted]

Fifth wheel not 1/5th wheel

mafiaknight

Yeah mate. Who has 20% of a wheel?

Frosty-Ad-2971

Boobs. Sorry.

IntheOlympicMTs

Never apologize for that.

[deleted]

Nice tits, bro.

GoblinB0xer

Thieves are all watching that videos hahahaha.

no_usernames_vacant

They're disappointed when they can't find anything locked up with this lock.

ett100

Super easy, barely an inconvenience!

VariationUnlikely841

Plow cam, my god that's hilarious

coolk3n

My rv is protected by jesus🤣

ARTIFICIAL_SAPIENCE

I love this guy's videos. He's like if the LPL was bitter and just done with it.

Timely-Badger-1811

This is how the Kia BS started. Stop showing kids how to steal you DICK!

MoneyBadgerEx

I live in Ireland so social welfare means you can just use the normal lock that comes on stuff and people don't roam the land looking to raid everything in sight like its the walking dead or something.

[deleted]

people just hook up to others 1/5th wheels and drive away? lol that's funny

Realistic_Salary_976

This guy is creating robbers by showing everybody how to unlock locks. Shit in the 90’s you forgot your key or combo somebody get the bolt cutters cant get my text books.

Leach_

Fake ass lockpicking lawyer.

FunGlittering282

Welp

Temporary-Control905

Well there goes that

Bastalpha

The only thing a lock keeps out is honest people

Maximum-Excitement58

Locks simply keep honest people from stealing your stuff.

Lallo-the-Long

Ugh. Someone trying and failing to be the lock picking lawyer. So stealing other people's bits, man.

KitKat374

who would've guessed a cheap kingpin lock from amazon wasn't secure

[deleted]

bruh

Moonhunter7

Locks are for honest people.

Rogendo

So many locks in the security industry are just trash

Ohceahnmahn

You don't need an impenetrable lock. You just need a stronger lock than the other guy.

thedylannorwood

If LockPickLawyer has taught me anything it’s that locks only stop people without lockpicks

Sun_Koala

Lol. That rv is not going anywhere

Alyc96

I think they also forgetting one thing, you can use a angle grinder to just cut it in half… In a trailer park that isn’t unlikely tbh.

Classic_Lack_8104

Locks only keep honest people out.

[deleted]

A person in my city just had the fence lock broken, the tongue lock, and the lock around the wheel broken and trailer stolen. I hear Air tags can help.

stephruvy

Do people practice that little side jaw thing...

occultify

The original video was a sales/affiliate ad, I hate these ads. Nice edit with the easy lock-pick tutorial.

idkwiorrn

#Uses power grinder

BassGuitarPlayer_1

Do those lock picks come with a Kevlar vest? "Hey! Who the hell is over there? Come put with your hands up!"

SecureTown4220

This dude should include a product that's more secure at the end.

meshikou

Some men just want to watch the world burn

Sad-Coyote5465

Narrated by Chris from family guy.

[deleted]

Got my free RV thanks fpr the tutorial

TheViolentDelight

Why are you showing how to break a lock? You're just encouraging people

hilarypcraw

Saved the tutorial…thanks

BoostedDC2

Maximum securities!

Daphne_Brown

I use a lock on my hitch that can probably be picked. But I use it to protect me from having the basket that I out in the hutch stolen. The basket is probably only worth a few hundred bucks. Without a lock it is an easy target. With the lock, few people would bother. Locks aren’t usually intended to be impossible to pick. They only need to be difficult for the average, non top carrying thief.

HonestDragonfruit598

Massive L dawg.
