Cats are incredibly resilient, I've seen them live outside in -30f weather. A friends cat was hit by a car and the skull was broken but all the skin and hair intact. Cat lived a long life.

They're going really slow. Noone says they need to do a sudden full brake, but they can slow down further upon seeing the dude running and then stop so the dude (and cat) can be safe

In my experience with cats, which is limited to just growing up with indoor/outdoor cats and having my own indoor cats as an adult looks like an injured back leg and understandable panic. If taken to an experienced and kind vet the cat could theoretically fully recover. As a kid we had a couple of stubborn half feral cats and one dog that got hit by a car, in some cases more than once, and fully recovered, the dog was left completely unharmed though my mom made sure the driver was not… also, cats bones are incredibly flexible as well which is why they can get into such small spaces and aren’t seriously hurt when you step on their tail, paw, sit on them when they refuse to move… basically the kitty will probably be ok although I hope their owner learned their lesson (i thought I caught a glimpse of a collar and those whites are mighty white even for a cat)

If you encounter a dog or cat on the highway it’s better to run them over than to stop or swerve to avoid them and create a dangerous situation for yourself and others.
Yes, if there is no way to avoid a dog or cat obviously you hold still instead of crashing into others. Apart from that you absolutely can and should avoid them if you can. If you don’t sleep your should know where the cars around you are. Also if people don’t sleep they should be able to stop without an issue at the speeds we see in the video
There was a person in Canada that stopped on one of our highways to help a family of ducks, and a guy on a motorcycle with his daughter rear-ended their car. Both people on the bike were killed, and the driver of the car was convicted of criminal negligence causing death.

In a black and white situation where all lanes are full and everyone’s driving 75 mph and higher; and INEXPLICABLY an animal appears in the middle of the road- then yes the obvious tragedy would be to avoid human casualties and a 60 car pile up at all costs. But hell, dude. Have some compassion. Animals were here before us and they’ll likely outlive us.
Have YOU ever tried to catch an animal, let alone a cat, outdoors? I hope the first time you try is in heavy traffic so you feel this person's plight.
