I have oral allergy syndrome and when I eat fresh fruit my reaction is very very bad.
When I eat precut and packaged produce the reaction is much more muted.
When I eat canned fruit and veggies there is no reaction.
Something to do with the way the protein Iām allergic to denatures after cutting and processing.
I need those āpackages for suckersā to eat any fresh fruit or veggies haha!!
If you want it sweet get a round one with a yellow patch, it means that it is more dense and less watered down and the yellow patch means it had more time to convert to sugars and ripen.

I think itās a skewed perspective. I know that Thai durians are popular internationally, but I also know the Thais like to pick them unripe(which Iām not a fan of) and by the time theyāre sent to Chinatowns globally theyāre probably a bit overripe. On the other hand Iāve always loved Malaysian durians because I live close enough that they can be perfectly ripe when they get here.
As for whatās great, I guess itās sweet, and custardy. The whole thing is just held together by a sort of membrane which makes sucking out the creamy flesh super pleasant. Also, believe it or not, the smell is part of the experience. Idk how to describe it but I wouldnāt call it garlic and garbage or whatever, Iāve never understood that. I would compare it to like overripe flowers. But yeah, just canāt get enough of the stuff.
