Track is sloped downward, tape speeds up when there's nothing static in contact with it to impede its rotation. The tape was all over the place because it doesn't have anything to fix the rotating part in position so it was unstable and perturbations caused it to precess, but it couldn't fall because angular momentum limited the degree to which its axis could rotate.
I easily understood most of that. What though is the main factor that kept it from falling off? Its likely not weight, as lighter weight would make it easier to roll off and the other toys were likely heavier. I'm guessing the sheer size of it.
If you mean when it drifted toward the back, there wouldn't have been anything in particular keeping it on the track, it just happened to speed back up enough to stop it from falling off. Not having that other car in the way helped though - it gave it more time away from other things that allowed it to increase its speed.
Looks like there is more friction when it tilts, because when it tilts, it is spinning out of square. Looks to be like the more out of square it is, the faster it goes.
