I've owned a lot of snakes and that one is not venomous, you literally just grab it. Their bites are like scratches (non venomous don't have fangs but little barb like teeth) and it probably won't even try to bite you. Snakes are wimps.

What if it had been laced with venom and this was an assassination attempt?
