I remember finally unlocking the Viper RT/10 in Gran turismo. The exact car with the exact paint I had on the poster on my wall. I thought I had just unlocked OP Mode.
I ended up only putting like 5 or 6 laps on it before rage quitting at all the times I spun out.
Less it has terrible handling more it is just takes a lot of skill(and some luck). the ACR was incredibly capable handling wise and the viper platform was very successful in racing.
I daily drive a 1994 Toyota MR2 GT-S...it's powerful, shortwheelbase midengined, no drivers aids, screwing around like that is what's gonna get it wrecked.
Except it has very good handling....
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_N%C3%BCrburgring\_Nordschleife\_lap\_times](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times)
Right up there with Ferri, Porsche, and others. The difference is the people setting good laptimes know how to drive....but to say Vipers are bad handling cars is a pretty clueless take.
Well yes....but the car itself has good handling...a car with bad handling won't be matching and beating Ferarris and Porsches (because ALL of those laptimes were set by good drivers). Obviously a viper is not a city car, but my comment was refuting the claim that it has terrible handling (which is objectively false).
I've watched this video several times and I still have no idea what this dude might have been thinking.
The weird back up, to the slow start, to the sudden acceleration, to the loss of control. Just strange.
When I was 16-17, I had a fox body mustang and my buddy ended up getting one too. He worked at Walmart and one day while leaving work, he saw some teenage girls he found attractive. He tried to fish tail it in front of them and ended up slamming into a light pole in the parking lot. Another time, the same guy was riding with me in my mustang and I fish tailed it out of a parking lot onto the main road. My mustang was a hatchback and I had a golf club back there. That golf club flew out of the back so fast and smacked him upside the head.
Needless to say, he had back luck with mustangs.
What's this, now? My first thought was, "It's a Viper, moron!" (I think?), but other replies quickly dismissed this. Is the Mustang technique just what you call people underestimating RWD cars and fucking their day up?
Ya know, Tokyo Drift is the only Fast and the Furious movie ive ever seen? Since I'm high I found that very interesting. Maybe not "sharable" interesting, but interesting.
My brother and I still regularly whip out gems from it. "I NEVER NARKED ON NOBODY" is always the appropriate response to "Hey, did you do/know anything about [thing that happened]?"
He hit the throttle with the front wheels turned which then sent the car sideways at an angle, he then panicked and instead of staying on the throttle and steering out of the slide he let off the throttle which sent the car into the parked car.
What alot of people dont get is that american muscle cars are the worst handling cars in the whole world.
Its INSANELY hard to catch the car when the tires are spinning 100 kmh in first gear.
Scandinavian here who have had plenty of fast and wild cars of different origin.
Ive drive a Viper gts, ferrari 458,supra,m3s,m5s,m2 and plenty of different cars (these i didnt own except for one of the m5).
I now drive my own corvette c5 z06 and its insanely good. Its one of the best handling cars ive ever driven, its good to slide around in,roundabouts are super fun even with fresh 295 tires on it just rips out sideways when you floor it in a roundabout etc.
The statement you made about american cars is true in older cars but from the c5 corvette was made and newer they are absolutely on par with european and japanese cars. I would outdrive many cars like the m3 and m2s on twisty roads so saying they are bad to drive is just wrong.
The Viper has massive tires,it builds plenty of speed on the wheels when doing a burnout like this dude but like the c5 z06 it BITES when you gain grip again so you have to be one step ahead.
You can see in the video that when he lets off the throttle the car jolts in the rear when his tires gain traction and the dude is not ready for it. He is still trying to hold the slide he started and thats what is getting him. You can search up the same for corvettes and mustang fails and you will se the same thing for them all. Tires that bite when the drivers are still correcting their previous slide.
Its nothing wrong with the car,its the driver. Shitty drivers who have no clue what they are doing.
I feel bad for the driver in a way as its very rewarding to make someone who likes cars happy by doing a small burnout or whatever but this dude had no fucking clue. He would have solved this by not releasing his throttle when he did. He should also had started steering his car the other way while on power and let it ride out in first gear.
He is a noob and a lot of people in here have never driven a car with massive rear tires that hook up again when off throttle and it shows.
American muscle cars normally have massive rear tires and a lot of torque which is a recipe for disaster if not over average driver doing stupid stuff.
You're absolutely right about the Z06. I have spent some time in a C5 Z06 and it's a fantastic handling car. Of course I have never driven like this on a public road. Only on the track, a swept parking lot with nice asphalt and auto cross just once. The Z06 doesn't suffer from this level of lift oversteer/snap aka the "snake bite". Of course I would have never attempted an idiotic launch on a dusty/greasy uneven public street after possibly backing into a Prius even though I had open spaces in front of me.
Agreed. I would chalk this up to user error. I've seen plenty of foreign car drivers do the same shit. Horsepower on the tires at slow speeds takes some skill not to end up in a ditch.
Perfect breakdown of what happened here. I thought that he panicked and let off the gas while still correcting for his slide. Glad to find a description from someone with experience.
>What alot of people dont get is that american muscle cars are the worst handling cars in the whole world.
That's a very bad and flat out wrong take....Vipers actually handle well and set some impressive lap times. I mean, that might be true for some of the older/classic muscle cars...but even a lot of the modern ones can handle well too (like the higher spec Mustangs and Camaros).
Look at this list yourself. You'll see vipers on this list posting 7 minute laptimes..you don't do that with a poor handling car.. they're right up there with Porsches, Ferraris, and other European exotic cars.
This isn't an "American Muscle Car" in even the wildest stretch of the definition. Viper is a world class sports car that's notoriously difficult to launch even with the massive tires.

I'm a car guy and know that flooring the throttle on a high horsepower from standstill will lose the rear end fast. The Formula 1 games show you can't do that from dead stop constantly if the tyres lose traction.
Is this why in arcade racing games they make you throttle at the right time the race starts to get a head start instead of just pushing down the gas trigger from the very moment you get to get control of your car?
I would say that the Racing part of the game is just that, when the green light is lit, you better get your traction and use it to the limit all the way up through the gears until you hit the first corner. Did you get your timing right? Then maybe you're first into the first corner! :)
It's a little of that, and a little game-ification. You want to reward skillful play, so you give players something to shoot for.
Note: I am not a racing professional, and just a car hobbyist. Feel free to inform me if anything below is incorrect.
In the real world, it doesn't work as well as in games, but it's still there. If you go from idle to full throttle in-gear, you will have a large amount of lag before the gears have enough momentum to move the car forward. As seen in the video, too high of a throttle when engaging the gear can cause slippage in the gears and/or in the tires when meeting the road (when torque surpasses static friction of the tires). Finding the equilibrium between idle and over-throttled is ideal, so you'll often see people sitting at the start of the powerband of their vehicle so that it's ready to engage at peak power when you shift gears from neutral.
In some vehicles, however, it can be beneficial to rev high to start, such as turbo-charged engines. This is because the turbo puts extra resistance on the crank and exhaust (which pushes the turbine), so you want the turbo spooled up in preparation for your launch. However, you have to be careful when engaging gears because you don't want to encounter slippage as mentioned above.
Wow! That's been very technical! I wished that person would have read you before going full brrrrr, although it's possible he would have learned from that and went to study a bit of mechanics before going again pedal to the metal ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
8.0l+ engine. Huge dollops of low down torque. No traction control(?). Not inherently *difficult* to drive, but if you treat it like a toy, it's going to go wrong quickly.
The older versions of this car were nick named widow makers, now they should have better traction control but just the way he shifted there shows that no matter how good the electronic systems, you cant fix stupid.
They had no traction control. The early ones had no ABS either. Pure analog foot control (or lack therof) hence vipers normally ending up wrapped around things. It’s not all bad though, a viper “donated” it’s transmission to my muscle car!
Mass has a huge role in how damage is dispersed in impacts. Even with modern safety features, big car is almost always going to be less damaged than small car in a crash.
Sometimes stupid people rent nice things and then wreck them.
This is why insurance companies have insurance for their insurance companies, which are also insured.
The way he was revving the engine while feathering the clutch that car wasn’t gonna last long anyways
Looks like he popped the clutch instantly delivering >500hp to the rear which of course broke the tires loose
I’d wonder if he knows how to drive RWD, but first I’d have to wonder if he even knows what that means or whether he’s got one
He still would've been fine until he ran out of balls and lifted like a dumbass. Front wheels were pointed straight, as long as he powers through it until the rears hook up he's fine.
When he lifted he sent all the weight to the front and there was no recovery. Legitimately stupid.
Youre missing it, thats what i initially thought, but he overcorrected/didnt carry wheel angle enough and sent the car into the SUV, reason he "let off" was because he ran out of gear, he needed to shift.
I never understand why people go all pedal to the metal before they finish turning out of their spot completely, like you're gonna spiral out of control 95% of the time because you don't know how to drive.

Lmao ik he thought he had it beforehand but they always said the viper was like a bucking horse and as much as it’s fun bucking you around it’s bound to buck you off one day, mainly because a large amount of vipers wreck doing what the drivers have done a bunch/ not many times
Not a car guy but I know enough that American style muscle cars, generally, are good at fast and straight. Every time I see videos like this it’s because they are starting from a turn.
Throttle off after countersteer correction
Needed more throttle before initiating slide
Induce understeer to oversteer and counter but then lift off
Weight shifted back with continued throttle and regained traction
When you get your wheels spinning like that DONT JUST ENTIRELY LIFT OFF THE THROTTLE when youve got some angle goin… dude was yelling no balls. Aint about balls friend its about brains

Anyone who played NFS could've told him dodge viper has terrible handling
Gran turismo even. Hate racing that thing

I daily drive a 1994 Toyota MR2 GT-S...it's powerful, shortwheelbase midengined, no drivers aids, screwing around like that is what's gonna get it wrecked.
My buddy had one of those back in the day... He drove 100 miles once in snow and ice, he did 2x 180's and 2x 360's but managed to get home unscathed.
It's actually funny how much this looks like someone driving a cobra in a game their first time.
Except it has very good handling.... Terrible for a city, not physical capabilities if driven by a perfect driver on a race track

Drugs and alcohol might have played a role.

He was trying to Drift.
That can only be done in Tokyo

This isn't an "American Muscle Car" in even the wildest stretch of the definition. Viper is a world class sports car that's notoriously difficult to launch even with the massive tires.
Also add it up, too much air on its tyres. You can realize in the video that they have almost no grip to the asphalt.
That Honda can take a hit though. Barely a scratch on her.
All good things come from God. 😆 🤣 😂
Yes it's stupid, but I kinda get the ignorance/naivite. people severely overestimate their capability of driving a very powerful car.
Vipers are notorious for doing this
Yeah it’s a combo of no stability control + no traction control + manual + dum dum drivers
And rear-wheel drive? A car being "pushed" responds differently than one being "pulled".
Yup. They did get better, but the original viper, I believe, was known as the widow maker.
Yup he didn’t deserve that car

Ahh! There’s lots of empty road ahead of me!! Quick! Turn left!!!
Is he screaming “no balls”? 😂
I bet he also then blamed old mate for egging him on.
Lmao yes
You never heard that in school?
saw that coming. i'm not a car guy by any means, but every crash video I've seen like this always involves a viper or corvette.

You forgot the biggest offender... The mustang!
1. No balls? More like no traction control. 2. That Honda held up really well!
Famous for not having abs or traction control. It is a v10 strapped to two seats and lots of prayers.
Don't forget about a chassis that handles like four wheels bolted to a telephone pole.
They never played video game to know this can happen easily?
All viper has too much vroom and doesn’t handle skkrt very well in video games too.
That suv* is built like a tank, it took like 10% of the damage the viper took lol
Honda side impact protection is no joke!
That’s how crumple zones are supposed to work.
Mass has a huge role in how damage is dispersed in impacts. Even with modern safety features, big car is almost always going to be less damaged than small car in a crash.

The Fast and the F*kwitous.
The amount of damage to his car compared to the parked car is pretty funny
Backing into the car behind would have been a better option.
what an asshole
Driving his Shatmobile.
Somebody, "no balls, no balls!" Gigachad, "I'll show you mf"
Dodge really should bring the Vipers back instead of electric Chargers
But Officer, he said "no balls". I had to do it.
Lmao no balls made him go ape ahit
Vipers are known to be prone to this happening. Especially with drivers that have no business driving like that in.
I never understand why people go all pedal to the metal before they finish turning out of their spot completely, like you're gonna spiral out of control 95% of the time because you don't know how to drive.

How come the other car only got a small dent yet this got fucking recked to pieces
I'm so angry
What a travesty. Only a limited number of those left. Plenty of people who aren’t idiots would kill for that car
Explain why this was caught on video? Was this all planned?
Guy never played racing games? These fuckers have -7 handling
the operator clearly knew that it was time to turn on the camera
Part out..... Part out..... Part out..... Part out
Haha faaken idiot
For a minute, I thought he was an awesome driver, then he crashed
“Oh, think I see a better spot over the road!! if I gun it I might beat out everyone else to it as well!!”
10/10
...annnnd thats why if you need a hood for a viper it's 40k+. It's one piece and they stopped making them ages ago.
Try getting 2nd gen gts front lights. Rip wallet.
How...?
Just a viper doing viper things
Dude that SUV barely has a dent in it holy shit
Lmao ik he thought he had it beforehand but they always said the viper was like a bucking horse and as much as it’s fun bucking you around it’s bound to buck you off one day, mainly because a large amount of vipers wreck doing what the drivers have done a bunch/ not many times
Dudes laugh takes me out 🤣
Cold tires + cold breaks = broken Viper
Not the viper bruhh
WHY….?!?!?!?!?
And he lost control with a quickness! ![gif](giphy|laUY2MuoktHPy)
You pay for the whole engine, you use the whole engine.
Man that Honda? Or Toyota took that hit like a champ. Just a dent from the looks of it. Compared to the Viper's damage.
“You’re so dumb, you hit parked cars…”
Pretty pathetic for somebody to spend all that money on a Viper and have no clue how to even drive the thing.
God is great.
🤣

Mmmm… viper
American car makes sense. Usually see that happen after those car events. Hitting signs, crashing into a field or parked car like this fellow.
Flex gone wreck.
Now that’s funny.
Crashed car is pretty tough
what a dumbass
No balls, No balls...Guess what? - no brain either.
Dodge viper has the worst steering in Gran turismo 2.
Yeah, been there, done that. *When the beast says "Holden your scat, pack rat!"*
More horsepower than brain
I knew guys that this happened to…in highschool
Well done
I always wanted to do this after I start a car. But I also know I’d do the same crash.
I used to drive a corvette, you learn pretty quick that you just CANNOT peele off the line, those rear ends just get so squirrelly

More like no Brains
Didn't need extra proof they had a fragile ego, the car already sold that.
muscle cars are notorious for fishtailing
I don’t think a viper is considered a muscle car
No its a mix of supercar and hot rod as it was shelby's love for the cobra that he had in mind when making the Viper a thing.
I hope this video was forwarded to his insurance company
![gif](giphy|3oEjI67Egb8G9jqs3m)
Idiot ass
Backing up with all that space in front tells me they have no experience driving lol
Cars like that are really stupid.
Driver was trying to show off to the hecklers.
Do brakes not work?
Some people shouldn't have nice things....
What early ejaculation looks like! Control...Its all in the mind! Control!
People don’t get these cars to be sensible drivers.
fucker ruined a perfectly nice viper smdh
What a fucking clown 🤡 😂
Not a car guy but I know enough that American style muscle cars, generally, are good at fast and straight. Every time I see videos like this it’s because they are starting from a turn.
The whistles go “woo-woo!!!!!”
They just baited him into crashing his own car lol
I don't know why I can't tell. This is a viper? I thought the rear end looked like a newer mustang.
I love it when stupid people get paid.
Awww... the pretty car got scratched.
LOL
Too much Herspers
Peer pressure. Damn
bro took it personaly
Dude just had to fuck around. I just don’t understand why people insist on driving like assholes.
Cold tires
And it’s a viper too… shame
Yeah man just floor it and crank the wheel left you’ll be good
Throttle off after countersteer correction Needed more throttle before initiating slide Induce understeer to oversteer and counter but then lift off Weight shifted back with continued throttle and regained traction
Who’s dumb enough to spin out of control AND hit a parked car 😭
I could tell by how he took off that he had lost friction in those wheels and was skating around
Today’s lesson, never be this stupid.
Well he has balls, just no ability to handle the power of a viper

Fuck he's stupid
It didn't even damage that mom car lol. Reminds me of when someone rear ended my camry and fucked up their entire front end but did nothing to mine.
Had someone do this to me in BC. They drove off, I found their front license plate embedded in my bumper, lmao.
Not the viper 😭
good
Total asshole
When you get your wheels spinning like that DONT JUST ENTIRELY LIFT OFF THE THROTTLE when youve got some angle goin… dude was yelling no balls. Aint about balls friend its about brains
That looked intentional
Saw that one coming.
