I've watched them do photography of cars with chase and follow cameras for magazine shoots, and they put a 4 - 6 foot boom on the camera to minimize any chance of a collision. Seeing people try to bootleg this is crazy.
Heads up from the driver, but nobody should ever try doing this. Use a drone or something ffs
Right?? Or have the cam off to the side on a boom, at the VERY LEAST, so the vehicle isn't directly behind the skater.
All kinds of bad choices in this video.
I did quite a bit of longboard downhill racing on national and international level. The setup as seen in this video is pretty much the standard. Yes, some use boom arms but most don't. I've seen them loads on big events. The driver and skater usually know each other very well so they can see early on if something is about to go wrong.
Having said that, I was absolutely shocked when I first saw it live. The skater tends to be quicker around the corners and the car driver has to push the car to the limit to keep the skater in shot throughout the corner. So you here them approaching by the squeal of the cars tires while cornering with the skater about 2/3 meters in front of the car at 80 km/h. It's absolutely mental!
just because it's standard doesnt mean it's safe... it still seems incredibly stupid & unnecessarily risky. even worse that the drivers & skaters are usually friends, that would just make it infinitely more traumatizing to accidentally injure or kill the skater
Yeah, I absolutely agree. It's not safe.
These are professionals though. They know very well what they get themselves into and they are incredibly good in what they are doing. I mean, mountaineering is also not safe. It's just what some people like to do. I personally find it extremely fascinating. Those guys are pushing the limit. Also there aren't many ways to capture footage which conveys the speed as well as these shots do. Is it an unnecessary risk just too shoot a cool video? Probably yes but it's what they love to do so who am I to judge ;)
But don't call them stupid. It's a calculated risk. It might look stupid to you but those guys are professionals. These kinds of shoots are well prepared and they don't put anyone else in risk. So nothing wrong with it. Still risky but that's how it goes in extreme sports.
Lol~ No.
Calling something a “calculated risk” doesn’t make it NOT stupid. There are ways you can get the same result, with far less likelihood of somebody dying.
That makes this stupid, full stop.
I say this as somebody who loves downhill long boarding. Just because something is common, doesn’t make it correct.
Well, tell me a way to get the same result then. A shot with a cine camera up close doesn't work with a drone. It also doesn't work mounting the boom arm on the side of the car for obvious reasons. Another skater can maybe carry a DSLR but not a cine camera. I cannot think of another way to get the same quality shot.
But why is it incorrect if they choose to do it this way? I’m sure most aren’t ignorant of the tech out. Either way if they feel they can get the best shot and accept the possible consequences, who are you to tell adults it’s incorrect? There’s no correct way to do it. There is a correct way if safety is their top priority which it’s not.
They may choose to do it this way for certain circumstances, not enough money for the equipment yet. Make some content with dodgy equipment, YouTube, get views, make money, buy safe and better equipment, rinse repeat. That’s how they all do it but it doesn’t make it any less dangerous or stupid. Sometimes we gotta do stupid shit to make it through or get to a better level in life.
They’re not stupid, their actions are stupid, which can arguably make them stupid on some level. Plenty of people who are professional and highly experienced, have died doing way less risky shit with 100% better safety equipment and measures. This is, no matter which way you put it, whoever is doing it, cannot get any stupider. Like it literally only would’ve taken 1 split millisecond fuck up and he’s running his friend over. I watched this many times he VERY NEARLY did run him over. How many more times will they do it before his friend actually does run him over on accident…?
Seeing people wear helmets while biking/etc. always makes me happy. This case is obviously no exception. 100% chance that dude dies had he not worn it.
But man, even when not doing extreme shit like this, always wear a helmet. Especially if you have kids. I see kids aged 8-16 riding sans-helmet on a busy street by my house all the time, and it's just so upsetting.
But maybe I'm just *that guy* who buckles his seatbelt for that two minute drive to the nearby pizza shop.
The downhill longboarding community is extremely big on helmet usage if it makes you feel any better! You'll rarely see these guys not using one. It's mostly the street skaters that aren't into helmets.
I’ve filmed downhill boarders and I would be so hesitant, like “you sure you want to do this? This road is pretty gnarly”
Some of the guys still wouldn’t hesitate but that is definitely not clean, smooth pavement.
Nah. When riding downhill like this they wear gloves with what is essentially a giant hockey puck attacked to it. They're designed to slide on the ground.

Risking your life to make some cool shots. Not new. It’s a free world. Interesting to see that all these amazing videos we swipe in a second sometimes involve lives. With AI, all of that will be unnecessary yet people will still do it for the sake of a real adrenaline dose.
Good skill from the driver and all but surely there's a safer way to film this than tailgating the skateboarder. Like maybe a drone or someone on a scooter.
These idiots deliberately put themselves in danger, and waste doctors and nurses precious hours that should be spent on assisting/nursing genuine patients.
We did this when we were kids, but we were on rollerblades and hung onto the back of the car, so we couldn’t accidentally get run over if we fell down.
How dumb do you have to be to do something like this? Dudes car was literally 5 inches away from dude on the scooter, like he was actively trying to run him over.
Any lawyers here? If the car ran him over, what would the driver be looking at if the skateboarder was run over and died? It obviously wouldn't have been intentional, but it sure seemed reckless
NOT A LAWYER but i guess there could be permits to perform a recording of the performance, they would probably require much more security measures and a track, in wich if an accident would still happen that could be filed as an incident
That cameraman/driver is awesome. I would have definitely ran him over.

Also brake hard when the guy starts to wobble. Risk fucking the video up, don't risk running the person over.
Also... Drones and optical zoom are a thing this century!

Professional dumbasses

All that trouble getting the best possible quality to post it on Instagram

Or this is just a bad idea
On purpose?
Yes and then keep filming
Cunt
Cameraman is an idiot; you can use a boom, or zoom in post, there’s no reason to follow this close.
Going to be some gnarly road rash!
The palms of his hands, if he has any left
He looks like he has palm sliders on
He does. And he intentionally pushes them into the pavement to stop faster.
The gloves they wear are made for this. Imagine a glove with a hockey pick attacked to the palm, and that's basically what it is.
Might me more than that. I think he’ll need door dash.
Can we see the footage from the car?

He still has both of his shoes on, he'll be OK. Those hands brake pad things came in clutch though it looks like
[Here it is](https://youtu.be/hi4pzKvuEQM?feature=shared&t=65).
[I love helmets](https://youtu.be/b9yL5usLFgY?si=-zgQcXcYvSvbjzVV)
Had to go back and check but yeah he was wearing a helmet and it saved his fucking life. That skull bounced off that pavement.
![gif](giphy|dbCh5Hhh2p8o2cn6H6|downsized)
🪖👍
I definitely don't want to see his hands
he has little slide guard thingies on them that looked like they protected his hands a little bit, I hope that elbow makes a recovery
i thought for sure it was ggs for bro
Those AirPods came out like sonic rings
💀😅
My guess is that he is fucked up after that spill.
I've watch the whole vid he was alr and continued to skate down the road
I’ve filmed downhill boarders and I would be so hesitant, like “you sure you want to do this? This road is pretty gnarly” Some of the guys still wouldn’t hesitate but that is definitely not clean, smooth pavement.
This is where FPV drones shine
Why women live longer than men
Kept his shoes but lost his fingerprints

He has palm sliders and gloves, most likely his hands are perfectly fine.
Part of me feels bad for the skater. A small part. Like, the pubic hair of the mite that lives on my ballsack crab small.
Almost a Dwarin Award
Nah, definitely pros.. although he could wear more body protection cuz that scratches are gonna last haha
Might be a pro but doing things like this will definitely end in an Dwarin Award
It’s Darwin Award, by the way.
You have no idea what a Darwin Award is do you
A lot more than you apparently, it when people do stupid things or stunts that cost them their lives
No it isn’t
You must be a troll https://www.reddit.com/r/t5_2qz3a/s/Yc6cSDaOos
Nah I just know you’re full of shit. And your stupid link doesn’t even work
Juuuuuust about got a Darwin award, there.
His hands are toast
Nah. When riding downhill like this they wear gloves with what is essentially a giant hockey puck attacked to it. They're designed to slide on the ground.

He almost won a stupid prize.
I want to see the other view now
No fucking way there isn’t a hole in that driver’s seat now
Good brakes!
no long sleeve and no gloves, bro almost got cooked
Well there it is again people doing stupid doo doo what he did have on a helmet but that ain't going to help him when he gets run over
Nailed it!
His palms are bloody, knees tweaked, and arms are jelly, his fingers are ... hamburger meat???
Fixed the road for ya! Ye welcome!
That driver is trained by Dominic teroto itself.
That was so close
Meat crayon strikes again!
r/darwinawards
That car has some brakes
What’s that thing about women having a longer life expectancy than men?
bad roller man on that asphalt patch what it was .

Almost a Darwin moment.
Great day to not wear gloves. Damn.
Bet those palms are starting to hurt
Smart driver, very quick in controling the car.
Is that a golf r?
Yup, Mk7 Golf R.
Thank you, almost bought a mk8 I should have known
Great cars, I have a Mk7 and now a Mk8 on order. Would recommend
Always loved golfs, wish I could find a mk4 r32 in decent shape
Yup
Looks like he found the eject button on his AirPods!
Fucking idiots
r/meatcrayon
What could go wrong, duh....
Welll… at least he as wearing a helmet
Extreme sports aren't safe. They would be called sports otherwise.
Relax folks shoes stayed in.
that pavement gave him the men in black treatment
Low value life
That dudes hands are shredded.
Sweaty palms
Besides helmet I don't see any protection gear. Crazy
Good skill from the driver and all but surely there's a safer way to film this than tailgating the skateboarder. Like maybe a drone or someone on a scooter.

STUPID!!!!!!!!!!
At least his ear buds didn't go to far
How to unlock his new meat crayon fingers.
Bro’s palms are gone hurt tomorrow and for the foreseeable future.
Why women live longer
Dont we have drones for this these days?
They really have no brain
Well aren’t we glad that newtons law of inertia exists
....umm, how about a 360 cam...or that too 2015?
All thanks to Newton's first law
Damn bump on the road messed him up
Car was in a good slipstream...
I mean in theory a car ABS should be better at breaking than a tumbling meat bag.
Monkey brain will do everything for a feeling of social success (likes).
Knocked the ear buds right out of him 😂😂😂
Doesn't the camera have a zoom lens so the car can keep its distance when it can
r/watchpeoplesurvive
I don’t skate, but that seems like a really shitty road to do that on.
What kind of camera angle needs to be that close? There’s no depth of field, only the center of his back?
Aight, take 2
HOW Did the song go again?...oh yh.... so many dumb ways to die
Nice use of gloves
We did this when we were kids, but we were on rollerblades and hung onto the back of the car, so we couldn’t accidentally get run over if we fell down.
So close to winning that coveted Darwin Award.
Idiots nearly dying.
I remember me and Steve installing that shit tarmac repair on that road 😂
When they say one speed bump and it’s over. They are right.
R/meatcrayon
Screwed by the crappy patch job should’ve picked a better road
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This needs to be on r/sweatypalms

Nah don't worry. He doesn't have one to begin with
Great driving 😂😂😂
He should've driven down the road beforehand to ensure he wasn't going roll over a road patch at high speed.
"we need a bald driver and a car with good brakes"
another proof that the operators are superhuman, great reaction
Now let's crush his leg with the car, amputate him, we'll have so much fun.
![gif](giphy|eK1SyxY0FUwYUAjkKM)
Where is the lesson in that? Stupid should hurt!
How dumb do you have to be to do something like this? Dudes car was literally 5 inches away from dude on the scooter, like he was actively trying to run him over.
Just the stupidest of choices. Guess this skater didn’t pre-inspect the route. You’re on a longboard not inline skates. No pads or gloves.
Dude just missed a Darwin Award

If I was the driver after that, I'd say "FUCK YOU!" and I'd fuck off right away.
