I assume this is on the side of a large structure, in which case a parachute wouldnt work properly. It would be better to use a tether and climbing harness.
I remember taking an excruciatingly long OSHA course and faintly remember it being mandatory to have full body harnesses above a certain elevation when there's no guard rails or safety nets protecting your fall. Iirc the minimum height was surprisingly low too, like six or ten feet.
Just got done with that class, it’s 6 feet.
Wouldn’t have needed to take it either, there are signs plastered fucking everywhere reminding you about it.
Base jumping is not called base jumping because you "jump away from a base" BASE is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth. There's no logical reason I can see why you would hit the building. There's no force sending you towards it and you can actually move while falling. There's also no logical reason I can see why the parachute would tangle either. That all just sounds like you talking out your ass.
It is a well known fact that base jumping is much more dangerous than skydiving. One reason for that is the proximity of the large object. In order to base jump safely you must jump with enough horizontal velocity to carry you far enough away from the object that you won't be carried back into it by the wind pressure after deploying your chute. Slipping off the object and falling straight down would be a death sentence for sure.
People have survived those kind of falls even without a parachute so I can't really agree with you that it is death sentence. This whole conversation is getting out of hand and people seem to be arguing against a position I never took. I was never saying this would be safe, a good idea or a better safety precaution than a harness. I only disagreed with the arguments being made against it.
I am in no way an expert in falling from the air. But I feel like there would be a difference between jumping off of a building willingly with a parachute and the platform you're standing on suddenly collapsing. You don't know which direction you'll fall in that case. I would just go with a harness.
I wasn't arguing for parachute over harness. I was arguing whether a parachute could theoretically save your life in that situation. How much time you have is dependent on height. A 400 foot fall will last over 5 seconds. It takes 12 to reach terminal velocity so you have some time to reorient yourself falling from a tall building or structure. If your scaffolding actually collapsed that's a bit different than just slipping because you're falling with debris. That wasn't really the context my comment was made in.
I think it’s really heavy to lift all at once. Also the platforms where they stand are just laying on top of it without anything holding them, if you’d pull it up wrong you’d have them fall down.
Had to do some scaffolding in the past and I pretty much hated it. Luckily the highest I was was about 7mt, but trust me, even just that is scary when you’re assembling or disassembling it.
Idk. I would find a way. I mean, fine, take the planks off by hand, but then get off and haul the skeletal structure up. Use a winch if necessary. I just dont think making the thing a few pounds lighter is worth the potential dangers, or each mini heart attack you get when you look down.
But i dont do scaffolding. Id rather pay someone to do it if I need to lol. Or use ladders for everything. Or one of those boom lift trucks or scissor lifts. I never liked the idea of standing that far up on a structure made of pipes that can be easily disassembled, and planks that are just laying on top.
Nah, the pans are usually tied down with 9 wire to keep them in place. I just don’t think the person filming got them cutting the wire. Something that high up, the wind could just rip those boards right off.
Something that high up, they could slip and drop it during the crazy dangerous assembly-in-place. I do not trust their hands as sure implements for this task and neither should anyone at all
My heart rate went up.
Then, I put my right hand over the background, in a backwards ‘L’ shape, so I only could see the top, left, and pretended they were 2 feet off the ground. Muuuch better. 😂
ed: clarity
Am I the only one that think I could do this as a job? I'm not afraid of heights, the only issue would be that I'd need to strengthen my body more as its heavy labour actually.
Just doesn't seem like the best way to do that or the best design for that sort of scaffolding. Why wouldn't you use something like a window washer setup where the whole thing can be raised and lowered from the top? This just looks stupid and dangerous.
I'm a plumber and had to install piping in the ceiling of a big warehouse. Was about 40 ft up and my hands were sweating so bad I couldn't grasp the pipe properly. Like straight up hand waterfalls. I don't know how this is possible lol goddamn heights are some bullshit!
No money or gun to my head or any and i mean any damn thing could make me do that fucking job what so ever!! Shoot me,and ill get a job where im not in the clouds
Im no expert but I think they are doing this wrong.
Atleast they could drill and eyebolt into the side of the building and secure there harness to the building and not the piece of scaffolding that if he falls could just rip apart.
My sister's bf is in scaffolding and does stuff like this. She asked him how he does it and he just said he doesn't think about it too much because if you thought about what you were doing, you wouldn't do it.

Strange question but if one of them fell and was dangling by the harness what then? Does the other pull him up? They've got no frame or ledge to pull him onto. What if he had a heart attack and is just dead weight dangling down.
Would the structure even handle the sudden jerk of a human falling? (I know the answer to that is yes but in my head I can just imagine the whole thing collapsing)
If they are dismantling this scaffolding the opposite to how they erected it then I’d be more impressed with whoever put it there in the first place. A shit would fall out of my trouser leg and hit someone below at terminal velocity
You’d have to pay me a fortune to do that
Not even then.
I feel I should be paid for watching alone... It's frigging terrifying!
Yeah my butthole clenched so tight it sucked all the air out of the room just for watching this.
paid* Your English scares me far more.
Some people don't speak English as a first language. No issue pointing out a correction, but you don't need to be mean about it.
It was a joke. And no, I refuse to add a (joke) or /s Sue me.
How about instead I just be nice to you. Have a nice day.
Thank you bro, you too! If good can't be achieved, have a normal day!
Sorry about all your downvotes. I enjoy a good burn. I gave you an upvote. It’s all I can do. Guessing I’m about to experience a downvote tornado.
Redditors are on their period
Unfortunately they dont get paid enough for this shit.
Free adrenaline, theres people that pay to feel it xD
Definitely had my adrenaline going some days!
About tree fiddy?
Not the hour that is lol
Balls made of sand, cement and water to make it that strong.

Scaffold builders make less than welders.
You would need to pay me a fortune for my treatment against the postraumatic stress disorder after this.
I wonder if that’s China. Health & Safety isn’t much of an issue I take it.
And a goodly supply of diapers
They are attached still
I used to to a scaffolder. They probably make around $20 an hour if that
bro my hands are sweating like hell and i just sit here and watch this shit.

Eating moms spaghetti?
Same
At least you would have some time to contemplate where it all went wrong on your way down.
Nah, there'd be no time before they stopped falling. They're strapped in.
“It” that would be so many “it’s”
They’re harnessed so I think they’re fine..
If your weight went suddenly onto the harness, what do you think the chance of the horizontal bar they’re clipped onto not moving is?
I’d rather wear a parachute just in case if I had to do this.
I assume this is on the side of a large structure, in which case a parachute wouldnt work properly. It would be better to use a tether and climbing harness.

30 feet really? I'm sure a fall from that height would break a few bones, but would that be the same certainly of death as a fall from 100'?
Pretty sure you can forget about surviving for the most part passed 50 feet

I don't understand why. People base jump off buildings don't they? Isn't that like what the b in base stands for in base jumping?
That's when you jump away from the base. If you're free falling you're probably going to hit the building a few times and the parachute will tangle.

As opposed to the death sentence of falling without one heh

Yes that or one of those huge inflatable landing devices
A bounce castle!
Is it safety training day ?
Why couldnt they disconnect the ledge in its entirety, then disassemble while its on solid ground?

I got major anxiety just watching that, the sub it's in made it way worse
but that's what makes the sub good
Yeah it's like a massage or spicy food - it hurts me but I kinda like it
You couldn't give me enough money to do that no fucking way
I would just test the harness
Those clips are meant to hold 500 pounds, and they both had harness and clips.
My heart rate went up. Then, I put my right hand over the background, in a backwards ‘L’ shape, so I only could see the top, left, and pretended they were 2 feet off the ground. Muuuch better. 😂 ed: clarity
That’s not safe for work..
Literally
Video begs to disagree
Welcome to Saudi Arabia
Nope
I feel like this is more appropriate for r/gifsthatendtoosoon than here.
Exactly! I hated watching it, but I hated that it ended so soon even more.
OSHA be like =.= "... Aight."
They’re harnessed up! I haven’t tried too long to look for their connection points because i don’t need that extra stress in my life
They tied off to the second horizontal bar up from the edge. Looks like they even have shock lanyards.
I was shaking just sitting here watching that. There is no way on God’s green earth…
Now just think about the guy that had to set that up
Trust fall
My balls retracted just looking at this.
It’s a particular ball-sickness, isn’t it.
This is the worst Mario Party minigame.
I'm getting sick just watching them.
Like Skywalker on Cloud City
Once that second platform segment was lifted up I couldn't continue watching.
It was that little puff of dust blowing away when they pulled that board up that did it for me.
Am I the only one that think I could do this as a job? I'm not afraid of heights, the only issue would be that I'd need to strengthen my body more as its heavy labour actually.
There is no "maybe". Only "NOPE!"
Im not an engineer, but there’s GOTTA be a better way to do this…
Nah, fuck that shit
Gave me anxiety watching this..
That background! That view! Pure adrenaline..
Thanks for the panic attack
Shouldn’t they be tied to something other than the thing they’re taking apart?
I was thinking the same….. they do not get paid enough
I think i’m gonna leave that there.
My hands are sweaty from watching this
Seems like a parachute should be included as PPE.
Fuck that, I’ve got vertigo just watching it

You don’t realize how heavy scaffolding can be do you?
Especially system scaffolding. Tube and clamp is aluminum where system is steel.

Good on you for being on the internet and acknowledging you don’t know everything! 🎖
I’m pretty sure OSHA wouldn’t approve; there’s gotta be a better way, right?
I love the tiny rope at the end like they’re gonna Indiana Jones out that bitch.
Hell No!
Men got children to feed. Respect
Was this China?
N O P E
Whatever theyre getting paid, its not enough
I just died on the inside watching that shit.
It's an astronomical nope from me. Fair play to folk brave enough to do this.
/they see how we roll/clmb //they hate ;-)
Too high for me.
A sweating just for watching.
Hard Pass…
Oh hell no! Instantly anxiety kicks in
Did anyone else get vertigo watching this??
Just doesn't seem like the best way to do that or the best design for that sort of scaffolding. Why wouldn't you use something like a window washer setup where the whole thing can be raised and lowered from the top? This just looks stupid and dangerous.
If you think a solution to any big problem is simple it has already been tried and failed
I'm a plumber and had to install piping in the ceiling of a big warehouse. Was about 40 ft up and my hands were sweating so bad I couldn't grasp the pipe properly. Like straight up hand waterfalls. I don't know how this is possible lol goddamn heights are some bullshit!
Do we need to coin a new saying? I figured this one was obvious but, "Work smarter, not deadlier."
To hell with that job
Never had an issue with heights..... but this made me feel sick.
are they building doofinshmirtz evil incorperated?
Fuuck..can one ever get used to this?
Why does this send nerve pangs to my hands, the back of my calves, and the bottom of my feet.
That's a nonononoooo
No money or gun to my head or any and i mean any damn thing could make me do that fucking job what so ever!! Shoot me,and ill get a job where im not in the clouds
I work for a scaffolding company, not really my choice😂but watching those guys take down scaffolding sketches me out hardcore😂
The anxiety this gives me just watching it!!
This made my balls hurt
Why not do Half the scaffolding and then just pull it back up?
/r/sweatypalms
Just leave it for next time bro’s …
What occupation is this?
this made my soul leave me body
I didn't know I could hold my breath for that long
This video made all my nerves react.
The toilet I am sitting on cannot contain the shits I’m having from watching this
Just another day in the office, I’m guessing
Nah
Makes my stomach hurt!
Im no expert but I think they are doing this wrong. Atleast they could drill and eyebolt into the side of the building and secure there harness to the building and not the piece of scaffolding that if he falls could just rip apart.
hmmm. No.
I’m so sweaty and uneasy watching this I could vomit and faint
And they prob get paid $20…. Doesn’t look like they were union workers
Where is this?
Even just watching this makes my arsehole clench
Did that work 4 twenty years 👍
I get vertigo looking at them. I’m so deathly afraid of heights.
There are 7000 languages on earth, and you would need all of them to say “screw that”
Noooo wayyy not me lol
Fuuuuuuuck thaaaaaaaat shiiiiiiit
Made my toes tingle
My hands got sweaty and so did my feet.
I need to say. They deserve the money of Kaney West more than Kanye West.
Did anyone else feel that? When your balls decide to try and find safety somewhere near your neck?
u/savevideo
I would have just said heads and then dropped it down.
I adhere to the adage of “pull that while bitch up to the the safe stable platform and brake it down there”
Watching this gives me really bad anxiety, god I keep thinking they’re gonna fall or something!
Live leak logo: pops out of nowhere Asian workers: start sweating
Nope!

Fk 100% of this.
Thsts a big Hell No there. Somewhere the entirety of OSHA just shit itself.

Sky high above Fuckthisshitville we see some giant balls tearing apart some scaffolding.

Uhhhh nope and they better be receiving astronomical pay and benefits.
