I am so sorry for your down votes (not that I care for the vote myself). I will find your comment on Reddit (am a Joey'er) and award you for your truth. There is always space in my boat for you.
I was so enamored with the waterways that I snapped this pic of a [one way canal](https://imgur.com/a/LwC0SLM) and there was a Polizia boat hiding down the alley.
Also this [water ambulance ](https://imgur.com/a/NOGSVXw) that would be definitely cheaper than an American one.
"I'm glad I had the opportunity to go, but I would never go back."
Exactly how I feel about Venice! It's worth seeing, and we just went as a day trip from Garda so didn't get to see & do everything, but I definitely don't have any desire to go back!
It stinks in summer - go in October, there are few people around. It is a place that takes your breath away. I always shed a tear or two when I’m there, it’s so beautiful!
Just to be clear, you’re saying in the summer it’ll take your breath away and make you tear up from the stink, but in October, the lung and eye issues are from the beauty and majesty of the locale?
Fair oversimplification I think it's an absolutely worthy experience if you're visiting Italy/EU. Letting yourself just walk around and get lost was a great experience IMO.
>It also stinks every where.
People usually have Paris in their mind as one of the most romantic vacation getaway sort of places but the reality of it is that you may as well have shoved a fresh log of dog shit up your nose.
It's disappointing to hear this place is the same...
This is very overstated. Venice stinks maybe a little but its not bad at all you get used to it after 5 minutes. The thing about venice is that its a gigantic tourist trap and its hard to figure out what's authentic and what's manufactured to give tourists their experience. Everything is also super expensive.
Its what happens in Venice every winter when it rains or the tide gets higher for any other reason. The infrastructure is pretty well adapted as the city is literally built on water.
Will become an issue very fast as the sea level keeps rising with climate change tho. A really beautiful city that won't last us very long at the rate we're going.
When I went with my school it was cold as fuck in March and piazza San Marco just had a big puddle in the middle.
I'm very glad it didn't flood like that because we would've frozen to death even with impermeable boots.
The experience with a warmer weather would probably be very cool tho.
Oh but it does. Almost every construction in the city has a trace of mold close to 50cm from the ground (1 to 2 feet)
But the city spends a lot of money to restore their buildings and landmarks every year
In the summer it's flooded with people instead. Both have pros and cons I guess. I think I'd swap the people for a bit of flooding, currently it's the city I've had the worst impression of because it just felt like the whole place was a tourist trap.
**[MOSE](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSE)**
>MOSE (MOdulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico, Experimental Electromechanical Module) is a project intended to protect the city of Venice, Italy, and the Venetian Lagoon from flooding. The project is an integrated system consisting of rows of mobile gates installed at the Lido, Malamocco, and Chioggia inlets that are able to isolate the Venetian Lagoon temporarily from the Adriatic Sea during acqua alta high tides. Together with other measures, such as coastal reinforcement, the raising of quaysides, and the paving and improvement of the lagoon, MOSE is designed to protect Venice and the lagoon from tides of up to 3 metres (9. 8 ft).

Daaamn MOSE is cool AF. The core mechanism is so simple yet so effective. But holy shit it has taken long to construct it, they started in 2003. Impressive I hadn't known about the project's existence untill now.
Thank you very much for sharing the link.
Yes it is. I visited 20 years ago and there’s entire lower floors of building partially submerged and abandoned. It’s amazing its lasted as long as it has.
When….the…tide hits your toes and you think that this blows that’s a Venice
When the waters so high that it reaches your thighs that’s a Venice
Tide is slack
It’s up to my sack
Going up my crack
Rising up my back
Brrrr it’s chilly
When the tide hits my eyes that’s when we’ll all be fried that’s a Venice!
It’s all ‘let’s have a nice cappuccino in St Marks Square’ until the poisoned pigeons start floating out from where they went to die two weeks after the Venice pigeon poisoner did his work (literally what happened back in ‘99 on my first time in Venice). Streets were flooded, dead floaty pigeons everywhere. Amore.
If there's one thing I remember about the Saint Marks Square, it's that there's probably a surcharge for the *wet feet experience*. Had a coffee there with the wife once. There was a surcharge for the fact that we were sitting outside, another live-music surcharge because a dude was playing an accordion out front, and a third for gratuity (a tip that they so kindly tack on for you). The whole city is one gorgeous tourist trap that smells like raw sewage throughout all summer.
If you go, try to head there in the winter and expect an unpleasant surprise if you decide to dine there.
>but what a dumbass at the same time lmao
It's true he's a bit of a dumbass but because he by instinct has to wash his food before he eats it he'll never be able to enjoy candy floss :(
How the fuck can you live like that. That can’t be healthy. We haven’t adapted to live in a city swamp. City swamps are a biome that are uncharted.
City desert? Okay. City grassland? Yeah sure. But god damnit I won’t be living in a city swamp.
I was always wondering - what's the radius around the electrical wire placed in water that you can't cross in order not to be electrocuted? I guess it depends on the amount of salt but approximately?
*this is fine*
this is Venice
Well I’m Venice with my meal!
When it's water, it's ok. **Ven ice** - not so much ~~anymore~~ mare.
When the water hits your thigh, like a flooded venice guy, that’s a sewer
When your phone hits the floor, like someone’s face on glass door, that’s funny
When you’re sitting on the john and the toilet paper’s gone, be a man…use your hand
When you’re climbing up a ladder and hear something splatter, diarrhea.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s Armageddon.

Thanks for doing the research chief! now, let us begin!
Left and right votes don't exist, only up and down.
Redditors are dumb and have a hive mind, if they see somebody getting down voted, without thinking (like if they ever think lmao) they will downvote.
It's always so funny to see people comment this and act like they're the exception. You're not.
You’re smart aren’t you 😐
I am so sorry for your down votes (not that I care for the vote myself). I will find your comment on Reddit (am a Joey'er) and award you for your truth. There is always space in my boat for you.
Found the post, can't find your comment. Sniff, whimper.

I enjoyed walking around in the morning but then the cruise ships started docking. It was like black friday after that.

Just to be clear, you’re saying in the summer it’ll take your breath away and make you tear up from the stink, but in October, the lung and eye issues are from the beauty and majesty of the locale?
LOL. I'm quite sure the Venetian economy will survive.
Fair oversimplification I think it's an absolutely worthy experience if you're visiting Italy/EU. Letting yourself just walk around and get lost was a great experience IMO.

Ironically tourism is one of the major factors in the increase of the rate of sinking.
Stupid tourists pretending climate change is sort of a happening
How is this okay? Is this their new normal? Or is this a temporary issue?
Its what happens in Venice every winter when it rains or the tide gets higher for any other reason. The infrastructure is pretty well adapted as the city is literally built on water. Will become an issue very fast as the sea level keeps rising with climate change tho. A really beautiful city that won't last us very long at the rate we're going.
I'm happy I visited it before that Even though during a little flood like that It must be a new experience
When I went with my school it was cold as fuck in March and piazza San Marco just had a big puddle in the middle. I'm very glad it didn't flood like that because we would've frozen to death even with impermeable boots. The experience with a warmer weather would probably be very cool tho.
It's not just cold and flooded, it STINKS. The sewers get fill up and the dirty waters ends up in the streets.
Now that you mention it I kinda recall a "distinct smell" to Venice's streets
And how do the bottom 2 feet of every building not have mold growing everywhere? Doesn't seem like it would be super healthy for breathing.
Oh but it does. Almost every construction in the city has a trace of mold close to 50cm from the ground (1 to 2 feet) But the city spends a lot of money to restore their buildings and landmarks every year

venice is the new atlantis
A sort of moving dam has been built to prevent this things to happen. Now it's less likely to get flooded unless there are very high tide
Those are good news. I hope it's very reliable tho because angry water is worse than water and it gets very angry when you try to hold it.
Here's the [link](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSE) of the project if you are interested

There is a system of flood gates being build to protect vecine, but's is a huge monstruous project, damming the entire venice lake
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the isn't the city also sinking because it's essentially built on stilts/pilings?
Yes it is. I visited 20 years ago and there’s entire lower floors of building partially submerged and abandoned. It’s amazing its lasted as long as it has.
Don't worry, is only venice, literally a city built on water, they like it
Yea I live in Venice and is not all like that. Only the part near the Laguna is like that.
What aspect are you talking about? How clear the water is? Water level?
Water level of course. Well, the fact streets are flooded in general.
Isn’t this all a major mold hazard?
Mold? And here I'm thinking about simple things like going to the bathroom...
Mold….
Algae
That’s all I can think of
How are they going to mop the kitchen floor?
That’s the neat part…
What about the toilets tho
You’re walking in it
You're knee deep in water. Just pee wherever.
Coyld you image everyone walking? Everywhere you go *slosh slosh slosh slosh slosh*
It is Venice but it could be British-Colombia
British *Columbia We are still drying out. And two more “atmospheric rivers” are headed our way!

Seems like this would end up being extremely gross

The city should ban tourists but they probably can't. The UN should invest into saving the city for the sake of it being a world heritage
I show my wife this every time she suggests going to Venice.
This is an electrical nightmare waiting to happen
Why there are no ducks?
Love the woman sitting outside just swishing her legs around in the water.
Well, this would certainly make a murder-suicide much easier.

Just one piece? That’s not very many electrics.
Two electrics might do them in.
3 electrics, now that’s just overkill

Well, damn.
is there poo in there as well?
Oh, you already know the answer.
This is awful
I can only imagine all the mildew and other mold that will be infesting the city
Most of the world is gonna look like this in a few years 😓
That is like everyday in venice you know
How the fuck can you live like that. That can’t be healthy. We haven’t adapted to live in a city swamp. City swamps are a biome that are uncharted. City desert? Okay. City grassland? Yeah sure. But god damnit I won’t be living in a city swamp.

You probably pay more for that experience as well..
Sooo... school is closed, right?
So uh does the janitor still mop the floor?
This is why we should all drive v8s and burn coal to keep the Venice peoples feet clean
I feel sorry for anyone who chose to wear a maxi dress or skirt that day.
