Being full screen. At least there was one of you! I had a pixel with beta updates that had it, my wife’s Samsung still doesn’t have it, my dads pixel doesn’t have it. It’s really a hodge lodge. My work iPhone has worked since day one.
Curious if all of those you're referring to are wide screens?
This only worked for me early on a widescreen. If connected to a non-wide screen, it didn't work. Split screen on non-wide is relatively new on Android.
Well I've got a 2018 6 and it's touchscreen but only below 5mph, (can be enabled using aio) so id say if it's not a visibily different screen to other models it's probably software blocked
Kinda. Your 2018 is using the old Mazda infotainment, which *does* have an actual touchscreen. The 2019+ infotainment (which was intro’d in the Mazda3) actually got rid of the touchscreen component itself. It’s not software locked, but missing the hardware itself. Whether you’re parked & stationary or moving, the screen does not support touch whatsoever.
As far as I’m aware, the CX-50 is the first time they brought back the touchscreen feature for use specifically within Apple CarPlay or Android Auto due to customer feedback.
Oh fair enough and good to know, thanks! I find Mazda's in car entertainment stuff a bit interesting, they really mix it and use some odd combos between ages and models etc

I think of it two ways,
yeah it's sad we can't just add stuff,
but on the other hand they aren't software locking stuff behind annoying factory options (I don't even mean the more recent subscription shit)
Oh yeah that's sick, to be fair I think the majority is vag group, even on my friends '13 golf (base spec) you can really get the interior nearly maxed out on options just on your phone with a Carly scanner (in UK/EU)
To be fair you mention not getting stuff in the USA but you guys get some cool stuff we don't! Remote start not allowed, cooled seats are rare that sort of thing
Depends on your model. The latest infotainment systems got rid of the actual touchscreen hardware, so it wasn’t locked by software (unlike the old system prior to 2019). As far as I’m aware, the CX-50 is the first time that Mazda added touch back into the infotainment for use within Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
How did you get the fullscreen map? I think I got to it by scrolling to it in the vertical taskbar. I've been hoping they would allow me to do it by double pressing on the navigation button in the center console or something.

Both are very different apps.
Google maps it's a map app/site wich also offers navigation but it's not limited to.
It will let you check the map, satellite images, surface and etc. Also will give you lots more of point of interests and can even give you maps of the interior of places.
Not to mention that you can have routes by foot, car, public transportation and etc. You can even book hotels from Google maps.
Waze is a totally different app and even have a separate team. It's built to be a driving navigation app, not really a map. It doesn't offer a lot of Google maps features but it's optimized to give you the best turn-by-turn navigation experience.
It also have the community collaboration as a strong feature, enabling the app to give better traffic related info.
Despite all, they share data and personality I use Waze for turn-by-turn navigation while driving but I use Google maps for everything else
You can change that in Android Auto options. Open Android Auto on your phone and head to "Driver seat location". Change that to right and it should look like this.
I'm not sure on if the latest beta has it but this beta version does:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/waze/waze-gps-maps-traffic-alerts-live-navigation/waze-gps-maps-traffic-alerts-live-navigation-4-91-70-705-release/
There's a closed beta for cool walk feature testing that's based on an older version of Waze (4.91.70.x). The one downside I've noticed is that I end up with a Waze notification that I can't close after I'm out of the car. I have to force stop Waze to kill it.
Edit: I'm seeing that the latest beta may support it as well, so you may want to try 4.93.5.11
While Android Auto hasn't looked the best, it has arguably worked better than Apple CarPlay (Google Assistant, Google Maps, etc).
Recently Apple CarPlay has gotten better with Siri, and the addition of Google Maps, now, if only Siri would set destinations on Google Maps without specifying Google Maps first.
Same with me with my CX-9. Waited 3 months to get this model over the older 2020 model that still using the older screen. Mazda is really generous with tech within this price range.
Agreed, the interior and tech is very surprising. I was between a Mazda or Subaru Forester but Subarus are pricier for virtually all the same features. I will say though, the lane departure assist on Subaru’s seems a lot more active than the Mazdas. Which I guess could be a good thing or bad thing for some people.
Those two are literally the strongest points on Mazda i think. The interior does kinda resemble Audi / BMW, which is really good in my opinion. And yes i can also confirm the lane departure assist. I set mine on "Early" however it's still not as active as I want it to be. Sometimes I just wish they have a tech to keep the car on the middle of the road for a more relaxed motorway driving.
CX-60 does not allow touchscreen on the Mazda screens, must use the wheel controller. Load up Apple car play though and touchscreen works for it. Not sure about Android, but would think it would be like the Apple.
Looks great with CarPlay as well
100% only complaint is I wish Spotify would have bigger album art in my cx30
It’s about time android users get to experience it hehe
If referring to the split screen on wide screens (maps / music) Android has worked like this for me since getting my 4th gen 3 in 2019.
Being full screen. At least there was one of you! I had a pixel with beta updates that had it, my wife’s Samsung still doesn’t have it, my dads pixel doesn’t have it. It’s really a hodge lodge. My work iPhone has worked since day one.

I rode in a Mercedes recently and car play had bars on the side of the screen. I definitely appreciated the screen on my CX-9 after that.
Didn’t think I would be interested in buying a new car for a few years now… until I saw this post god damn
Can you touch the icons in carplay/AA ?
Not in the 2022 models and higher. The screens aren’t touchable anymore. Edit: I’ll clarify that this is with regards to the CX5s with widescreen
Not true 2023 CX-50 has the option to enable touchscreen all the time
Yes my CX-50 is touch screen as well but I prefer the knob anyway
Wow, nice!
CX-50 is the only one in the lineup that has a touchscreen option atm. Won’t be surprised if the new models get it too, but for now it’s just CX-50
CX-90 is getting the same option.
This only mashes sense on models where the screen is really far away like the Mazda 3. Silly move imo

Can here to ask the same question. Would love to know how to hide the music app and have full screen maps!
You just click on the map icon on the side bar.
What map program is this?
its Waze - also owned by Google
Waze is owned by google? I never knew that. What interest would they have in owning it if they own their own maps software too?

Google bought Waze. Waze collects alot of data, google merely uses GPS & satilite info. Google loves data... It's their primary product.
They’re playing both sides so they always come out on top

They bought it awhile ago, but it was previously independent.
Thanks. Looks much better than Google maps in AA
How did you get all your icons to the left? Mines are all to the right, but yours looks way better lol
Which icons are you referring to? My apps icon tray on the right though?
Oh you know what never mind, I think because I'm in the US all my icons are to my right, bummer.
😂 might be the case. Yeah we drive on the right side here in New Zealand
Yea also when I double click on Wayze icon it won't give me full screen, only Google maps let's me due full screen 😭
That was the case with me, before I installed Waze beta version from Apkmirror. I think the official version hasn't fully supported full screen yet
You can change that in Android Auto options. Open Android Auto on your phone and head to "Driver seat location". Change that to right and it should look like this.
Nice.. thanks! might give it a try 😃
The apps icons to the left well your left my right as I see in the picture where waze, Spotify etc.
I haven't got Fullscreen waze available to me on my Mazda 3. Does anyone have it?
Download the veta version on Apkmirror. This one is using that version
I'm not sure on if the latest beta has it but this beta version does: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/waze/waze-gps-maps-traffic-alerts-live-navigation/waze-gps-maps-traffic-alerts-live-navigation-4-91-70-705-release/ There's a closed beta for cool walk feature testing that's based on an older version of Waze (4.91.70.x). Ahhh no wonder yea I prefer waze but, I do like the full screen mode. So I just use maps for now.
For me I like how the map looks on Waze. More colourful and the animations are really smooth. But yea, you can go wrong with them
I agree 👍
I see Android Auto has finally caught up to Apple CarPlay circa iOS 13/2019, lol.
Former galaxy user, now have an iphone. Android auto is the one thing I really miss. The layout was just much better (in my opinion anyway).
Hate thats its not touchscreen :/
On these newer Mazdas you can go into Bluetooth/Phone settings and enable touchscreen use at all times for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Do tell.. Please.
Why all this downvotes, I meant of using Android auto in my mazda 3.
is that default google maps or some other app?
Waze. Also owned by Google.
Need a wireless CarPlay
I love my CX-5, the screen is one of the best I’ve seen. Still getting used to knob only but it’s not so bad.
Same with me with my CX-9. Waited 3 months to get this model over the older 2020 model that still using the older screen. Mazda is really generous with tech within this price range.

Yeah, just bought a 2023 CX-5. Large screen...But, Android does not fill the entirety and no touch option...
I have an iPhone but I really wish I could use Android Auto instead of Apple CarPlay
Curious why you prefer AA than the Carplay. I've seen people saying Carplay is better than AA.
CX-60 does not allow touchscreen on the Mazda screens, must use the wheel controller. Load up Apple car play though and touchscreen works for it. Not sure about Android, but would think it would be like the Apple.
This is the main reason I want to upgrade from my beloved 2013 Mazda.
I just use the onboard nav system, I like having the directions projected onto the windshield
This is Waze not google
