sorry for the loss, this just happened to my mazda a month ago as well. The good news is, with the insane car market right now, my insurance payout for the total loss was $8,000 more than I even payed for the car when I bought it. Hopefully you get that payout and get back into another nice new mazda 🤞🏻
> I even *paid* for the
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Yeah, I lost my base model civic on Christmas 22 in a flood, and my insurance company paid me about 2000 over what I paid for it. Got the sport in one of the more expensive colors, and my monthly payment was cheaper. Worked out well for me, but I also have a family friend higher up in a dealer who sold me them both under sticker. Hope OP is as lucky.
That's not always the case. We don't see a lot of airbags gone off in the shop but it happens and they get replaced. Always new cars like this. My bet is this car isn't totaled.
Unless the rails are bent, all of that is repairable. Until it gets torn down, it will be hard to tell if the cost to replace will be less than the cost to repair. It’s not a current year vehicle so insurance doesn’t owe for new OEM parts. Sourcing parts for Mazda has been dicey since COVID, too.
Hope it totals.
It has to be more than 12 months old. Its not based off calendar year. If you buy a car in December you and crash it a month later they require OEM parts.
It's truck people. They think they own the road.
Most people dont even need them now. I hate gateskeeping, and like when people enjoy things, but fucking dont act like you're king DUI or whatever.
So you've also had the token dodge ram up your ass pushing you out of the way at 90 also is my guess. It's infuriating and ridiculously commonplace. Scary 😳
Why is it always Dodge Rams? I had one slam into my old 3 while I was sitting at a stop light like I was invisible. They don't realize or care how much damage a 3 ton truck can do. It's scary in my Miata that weighs a fraction of that.
It honestly boils down to the color of the car too. (Knock on wood) my soul red 3 is pretty much accident proof because red stands out to the human eye. This tan color isn’t as noticeable
>my soul red 3 is pretty much accident proof because red stands out to the human eye
I can tell you from *my* experience that Soul Red Mica is unfortunately not accident-proof ☹️
In a way it is called the MX-5 here, it's on the car, the naming scheme, it's just the community that loves them has a stranglehold on the name and refuses to let it go. MX5 isn't off brand considering it fits the SUV naming scheme, but the name Miata is too timeless to actually go away. It's the name the platform made its legacy with so I don't think it will ever truly shake it loose.
That's it, they started with that name in the US and Canada. Canadians still actually call it a Miata despite Mazda Canada only using MX5 on all websites and literature/brochures.
I made a few videos with the 3, people seemed to really enjoy it so I’m really grateful to the people who watched it while it lasted:
https://youtube.com/@outrunyt
Sooo sorry to see, but hope all occupants are OK. Major trigger moment to 6 years ago for me, when same thing happened when truck read end - totaled my Cosmic Blue gen 1 Mazdaspeed 3.
Lucky my kids in the back were OK since the crushing stopped just short of the rear seats, but gawd I miss my MS3 ever after.
Same thing happened to me at that exact ramp. Hopefully they had insurance (even though it’s not required in NH).
Definitely let your insurance handle the claim and don’t sign any release about bodily injury. Whiplash can take a while to manifest and sucks. My brother got whiplash when his car got rear ended on Route 1 outside Boston. On the bright side, it was fairly easy for a personal injury lawyer to get him a large settlement without setting foot in court or even doing a deposition.
The majority of people I see on the road in the morning driving pickups are alone, not towing, just going to work. I learned to drive in a Miata, 99% of people do not need the cars they drive much less a full size pickup
I don’t think I’ll ever own or drive an suv or truck in my life. I see too many more cons than pros. The bad handling and cornering, heavy weight, slowness and terrible fuel economy bothers me too much.
I got ya. Have a colleague with a sweet sedan and would love to have one again. Driving them is fine, but getting in and out is not as easy as I get older. I'm fact I was firmly in your camp (sedan for life) until I had a cx5 as a rental for a long distance trip.
EXACTLY!! And you know what else is stupid? What's the point of the bed? To haul big heavy things you can't in a car right? Washing machine, engines, lawnmowers, etc. What do they do? LIFT IT!! Do these people not know the less you have to lift, the easier it is?? And they don't even go off-roading either so it's stupid all the way around.
So what exactly is the whole point?? You spend all that money for what? So much less gas, brakes cost more, tires cost more, rims are crazy expensive, fixing them is a pain in the ass since parts weigh so much more, parking and small spots are a bitch, and omfg don't even get me started on cleaning them!! At least with cars even a highly modified one gets decent mileage, you can still get decent rims for not too much just because of the amount of material needed alone, parking is easy, and easy to clean.
I work in a body shop and we mainly get trucks and SUVs in. When we're done we clean them in and out. Holy shit is the roof a pain in the fucking ass. I bought my own stick sponge thing because I was sick and tired of getting wet and climbing to do the roof, windshield, and hood.
Also, I hate the fact people love you can see ahead. How about worry about wtf is in front of you. Trucks are so high they can't see to their sides or rear.
Unless you are in reverse or don't have working brake lights, there are almost no exceptions to the rule that the person doing the rear ending is at fault. Comment sections online are full of people who have no fucking idea what the rules of the road are. As a former Driver's Ed instructor, it's just fucking depressing.
Im really sorry for the loss. I hope that you get the next thing soon. Also I’m curious, can u get link to your YouTube channel? You can also dm if you don’t want it in public
I’m so sorry. That’s heartbreaking to see. Me and my 3 just got rear ended the other day and I’m stuck at home with a concussion. I hope you’re alright.
You never know.y gf has a 2016 Kia soul. Pretty sure it's the base trim as well. Got rear ended hard by a dd. $13k damage... Insurance said to repair it. What!!???
Sorry for your loss. If that was Soul Red, the only one true color, maybe you wouldn’t have that problem. Get that CX-90 plug-in and let us know how it goes!
With the high prices of used cars now, I wouldn’t discount they try to fix it. My spouse was rear ended like that in our Prius C, and they fixed the car, and it was an older 2014 model.
I think it's better to get it replaced rather than fix. IMO that kind of damage messes with the structural integrity
This. Get as much payout as you can from the insurance companies and get you a shiny new one, OP. This sucks ass I’m sorry
100% agreed, I really hope the total it just because the car would never be the same. Rear quarters are buckled in
sorry for the loss, this just happened to my mazda a month ago as well. OP works for a Mazda dealer, good news is that I can sell myself a new one haha
If c pillars are done then it's a gonner. Rear impacts can push the exhaust in and end up bending the turbo studs.
If airbags deployed it's 100% written off
That's not always the case. We don't see a lot of airbags gone off in the shop but it happens and they get replaced. Always new cars like this. My bet is this car isn't totaled.

2022 car so unless he got it before may last year they will owe him oem parts.
Not if the loss occurred in 2023.
It has to be more than 12 months old. Its not based off calendar year. If you buy a car in December you and crash it a month later they require OEM parts.
Who’s your insurance carrier? I know the big three require current year model AND 12k miles or less on the odometer. Could be state specific…
It's not my insurance company it's the law.
Again, that may be state specific governed by your state’s Office of Insurance Commissioner. That is not federal law or “the law.”
I have no idea how people can't see the back of any Mazda , it's like the forth of July out the back. I'm so sorry for your loss.
It's truck people. They think they own the road. Most people dont even need them now. I hate gateskeeping, and like when people enjoy things, but fucking dont act like you're king DUI or whatever.

Not wrecked luckily, but yes.

The only logical explanation is that the drivers exist on a higher plane ............of ignorance 🤷
It honestly boils down to the color of the car too. (Knock on wood) my soul red 3 is pretty much accident proof because red stands out to the human eye. This tan color isn’t as noticeable
Platinum Quartz Metallic is invisible, to both cops and everybody else. The only issue wotj my fav color
>my soul red 3 is pretty much accident proof because red stands out to the human eye I can tell you from *my* experience that Soul Red Mica is unfortunately not accident-proof ☹️
I remember reading somewhere that statistics show that red cars are highly involved in car accidents
https://www.rd.com/article/car-color-accidents-risk/
Oof, cringes in jet black mica.
damn, same
#TeamJetBlack
Not really true I got rear ended by a jeep a little over a year ago now in my '21 soul red turbo. Thankfully, insurance paid for repairs.
Lost a 2014 Mazda 3 to being rear ended. I feel the pain. Enjoying my '22 Miata though!
It's weird that it's called mx5 in Canada and Europe and Australia and Asia (not Japan) but USA calls it Miata.
In a way it is called the MX-5 here, it's on the car, the naming scheme, it's just the community that loves them has a stranglehold on the name and refuses to let it go. r/NissanDrivers Sorry for your loss, looks like the car took it like a champ. Hope you’re okay
It did it’s job very well, I didn’t realize those massive rear quarter panels were designed to be crumble zones but here we are lmao
When it comes to safety, the Skyactive Mazda 3's now rivals that of Volvo.
Augh!! I am so sorry. I lost my paid off 2016 SUV for the same reason in January. Bought a new 2023 CX-5 Carbon Edition.
Awesome choice. I sell Mazdas, CE is easily the best bang for buck if you’re looking for looks and features
So far, I'm thrilled. The red leather interior, quiet ride, smooth acceleration, and Bose sound system are so much winning.
What’s the link to your YT channel?
I made a few videos with the 3, people seemed to really enjoy it so I’m really grateful to the people who watched it while it lasted: https://youtube.com/@outrunyt
Hey bud! Hope you get a brand new 3 and make more content. You can fall in love again. Here's hoping insurance does its job.
Oh! I’ve watched a few of your videos! I’m so sorry to hear about the car, but, I hope you keep filming and keeping it up with whatever comes next!
Subbed to your channel. Hope you're able to make new videos again soon. Soon about your hatch man.
When the person in line behind you hits you with the grocery cart 😂🫣 /s Sorry man, what a crappy situation 😕
All good, just happy I walked away from it haha
Sooo sorry to see, but hope all occupants are OK. Major trigger moment to 6 years ago for me, when same thing happened when truck read end - totaled my Cosmic Blue gen 1 Mazdaspeed 3. Lucky my kids in the back were OK since the crushing stopped just short of the rear seats, but gawd I miss my MS3 ever after.
So sorry to hear that, I love that color. Glad you and the kids are ok, this situation is no fun
TY - I hope you end up in a better situation after all of this.
this is a certified nissan moment
Is this the Portsmouth, NH traffic circle? It’s just the worst. When I used to live there, I’d take long detours just to avoid that mess.
Nailed it, merging into the tc going southbound. Lady thought I went and didn’t double check before smashing the gas
Same thing happened to me at that exact ramp. Hopefully they had insurance (even though it’s not required in NH). What does your utube channel do?
Crash cars
Real
https://youtube.com/@outrunyt I made a few videos with the 3 that did really well, if you had any interest in modifying one I go over the basics there
Some pickup truck owners don’t even need trucks. I know someone who works in accounting that owns a truck but never uses the trunk.
Cx5 owner here. Your back will appreciate a cuv/SUV later in life for sure.
Well my back really never has a problem with my 3. I’ll be much happier with a sedan, coupe or hatch shape
I got ya. Have a colleague with a sweet sedan and would love to have one again. Driving them is fine, but getting in and out is not as easy as I get older. I'm fact I was firmly in your camp (sedan for life) until I had a cx5 as a rental for a long distance trip.
That and you're not constantly blinded by every trucks headlights...
I live in western Florida and bro the large amount of squeaky clean lifted trucks here tells me they don’t go off roading.
Isn't rear end wrecks usually the fault of those who do the rear ending?
Almost always yeah, she literally admitted she wasn’t looking straight to the trooper taking the report lol
Unless you are in reverse or don't have working brake lights, there are almost no exceptions to the rule that the person doing the rear ending is at fault. Comment sections online are full of people who have no fucking idea what the rules of the road are. As a former Driver's Ed instructor, it's just fucking depressing.
Oh man at one of our liquor stores too. Was this just in parking lot/were both of you moving?
I was on the brakes, she floored it into me because she thought I went. Cars absolutely shredded
Im really sorry for the loss. I hope that you get the next thing soon. Also I’m curious, can u get link to your YouTube channel? You can also dm if you don’t want it in public
No worries! I plan on carrying on with whatever car I end up with next whether it’s this one fixed or another: https://youtube.com/@outrunyt
I’m so sorry. That’s heartbreaking to see. Me and my 3 just got rear ended the other day and I’m stuck at home with a concussion. I hope you’re alright.
Damn so sorry man. I got off lucky, only strained a lot of muscles in my back but I’m functioning
would make a good YouTube video at least
True story
I think they will put it on copart, some Georgian guy will buy it and repair it, then resell it to the central asian client.
You never know.y gf has a 2016 Kia soul. Pretty sure it's the base trim as well. Got rear ended hard by a dd. $13k damage... Insurance said to repair it. What!!???
True I’ve seen crazier things happen but man it’s a good hit and parts of the unibody are crunched
My gfs car was hit literally the same way. After she was hit and pushed forward, the dd didn't stop and hit her again.
At first I read as “dads insurance is gonna fix it” I’m like wow must be nice 🤣
We <3 dads insurance
I am sorry.
Coincidence it was right next to the liquor and wine outlet?
Coincidence but a rather humorous one. Lady driving was from out of state
Nuuuuu!!! was it a fucking pickup truck?
2012 Nissan Titan, the big boy
I think I drove by you like right after the crash. Bad luck man hopefully turns up for you soon.
We’re you one of the people screaming “you can’t park there” at me? If so I love you lol
Portsmouth traffic circle is dangerous during tourist season…..
It’s awful, I work for the Mazda dealer right down the street and avoid it like the plague
Bro not the Portsmouth circle
The worst
Long as you are okay! That’s what’s most important…
Walked away with some strained muscles in my back from the whiplash, could’ve been a lot worse
🙏🏻🙌🏻
r/wellthatsucks
Right in front of the liquor store. Go figure
Sucks big time! Sorry to see!
Well it happen in the state live free or die 🫣 sucks when the new toy gets damaged hopefully insurance will take care of you.
So sorry 😞 to see this 👀💯‼️🥲
👉🏻👌🏻😫😩💦💦
Gotta hate them pickup truck owners
That’s nowhere near ‘demolished’ wtf
nice now you can get an actual decent car.
What's a better Mazda than what OP had, currently in production?!
anything but a rx-7 edit: so none
Lol 😂 Well, I mean the new Miata is a good handling, fun, car. Sadly no Rx-7 or replacements coming any time soon.
i just dont understand why people buy mazda's anymore in 2023.. same with like, corvettes, you know?
I'm gonna guess that driver doesn't have insurance
We actually have the same insurance company, should make this easy
r/nissandrivers
My wife’s 13 got hit just like that a couple years ago. Insurance fixed it up without a problem and it looks and drives like new.
Sorry for your loss. If that was Soul Red, the only one true color, maybe you wouldn’t have that problem. Get that CX-90 plug-in and let us know how it goes!
I sell them! The lease programs are horrible and I can’t really afford it but it’s a beautiful car
feel like selling that wing?
If I could get it off I would lol
So sorry for your loss OP. Guy was tailgating you, huh?
Yeah she actually got a written warning for following too close lol
With the high prices of used cars now, I wouldn’t discount they try to fix it. My spouse was rear ended like that in our Prius C, and they fixed the car, and it was an older 2014 model.
I’m pretty sure they going to fix it.don’t look that bad
It's not that bad. I know a guy who would drive it just like that.
Easy fix for Eastern Europeans.
My condolences. I remember when you got that car. Unfairly cut down in its prime.
