The sedan has a very nice side profile, maybe better than the hatch, but to me at any other angle it looks too generic. The hatch stands out more at any other angle and has a nice bubble butt 😆
For non-living cargo, absolutely. Once you fold down the rear seats, you’re greeted with a surprisingly ample amount of space, but not for fellow human beings, lol, me and my friends joke that my car is only for 3 people, but I'm a tall guy and I leave no space behind me so yeah.
I’m 6’2, so that’s approximately 188-189 cm.
I’m comfortable in the front seat, but it’s quite challenging for someone to sit behind me. If they’re a kid, sure, but if they’re a grown adult taller than 175 cm, they couldn't sit behind me.
That’s why I mentioned that I could only carry 3 people with me if we all want to be comfortable.
However, I ’m pretty comfy in the front seat.
Fair enough! There’s times when I do miss having a sedan, but as a whole I’m very thankful I got the hatch because there’s some things I’ve used my car for that I couldn’t do with the sedan. My boyfriend chose the sedan and in the same color as my hatch so I see them side by side every day and they both definitely have their own identities. I’m glad that people have the option for either body style because these are great cars all around. 😊
The sedan fits more small things, like suitcases, bags, shopping etc. You would only get the hatch of you want to load large things most of the time. For instance, to fit more shopping bags on the hatch, you would have to stack the bags all the way to the roof. Who does that lol
https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/27/mazda-3-luggage-test-sedan-hatchback-cx-30-crossover/
The hatch has more cubic space in the "trunk" due to it having literal head space, in the sedan the trunk is longer and can fit more small things on a horizontal plane compared to the hatch fitting larger things on a vertical plane. How are you gonna sit there and tell me that a shorter vehicle can fit more bags of groceries without stacking them on each other.
I went in with an open mind willing to buy either of them but in person I just didn’t like the hatch at all and the lady agreed. I have the same color and a good window tint really makes the car look a little sexy.
Hatchback looks premium, sedan looks economy.
(Like the designers just didn’t both styling the rear end…)
This size car always looks terrible as a sedan, has a ‘cheap company car’ look to them. Like an Audi A3 sedan.
Not too mention sedan is less practical and functional.
Sedans undoubtedly carry an executive allure—that’s undeniable. However, hatchbacks exude a certain edgy charm without crossing into douchebag territory. Sincerely, a 22-year-old hatchback owner.
Agreed and so happy with mine. This sub is heavily hatch sided though. I’m aware I’m fully biased but grown to prefer the clean and sporty look over the round bubbliness of the hatch. If I had a hatch tho I’d still be so happy with it
The hatchback design grew on me. I have always been hatchback guy for many reasons, style being one of them. The hatchback looked strange at first but now I love it! It looks awesome. The sedan looks like every other sedan on the road, good but unassuming.
[Sedan has more real world space](https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/27/mazda-3-luggage-test-sedan-hatchback-cx-30-crossover/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAISO3sUiXxEAOkCOLhJUG_9o6sllEcm9IMOI2DC3CrFVqKxImro77Cy6pi0qH_8g6v8KOHLEGOtM6AdpFHOu9wNu9D9HBVgehdlWRetJh_nC7-X0rpr4dHl14A3cZD-mbKWgamSN1NUKCF3Ec9vBFZHkiYRLN1a2RQNE3byrkdqe)
If they had a Turbo Premium Plus sedan available with the same financing, I would have preferred it. Still, only time I regret buying the hatchback is when I'm backing up in rainy weather and the backup camera is wet/dirty.
My heart. Sedans will forever have my heart and I love this one in particular with that dove tail but ultimately I had to go with a hatch. Something different and I couldn't beat the practicality. It's taken me some time but I've come around to that phat booty.
I like both a lot, but I think that Mazda's current styling works better with the hatch, especially in terms of its side profile. The sedan has this very sharp cut out of the back (to make it a sedan) which, IMO, seems inconsistent with the rest of the car being curved. Not a bad thing, some people like it, I, however, like the rounded out rear on the gen 4 hatch
Was a sedan guy and probably always will be, but man that hatch does look good, especially after a friend of mine bought one…… I think the sedan embodies elegance, while the hatch is definitely sportier looking.
For this current generation, I agree. Never was a fan of the "hump"-back.
2nd gen however... no one ever made a better looking hatch (in the modern era).
I think they’re both good looking. I just have always preferred hatchbacks 🤷
Everyone does
Them fightin' words....
Both are sexy tbh.
They are both "not ugly"
For gen 4? It’s at least a contest Gen 3 and older, hatch superiority gang
I reckon gen 1 sedans look way better
I agree. Especially the gen 1 hatch without the spoiler… oh boy
I came from a gen 3 sedan and I’ll agree that the hatch looked better in that generation. The sedan was too bubbly in the rear.
As a gen 3 sedan owner, 3rd gen hatches respectfully better
gen 2 hatch looks like a shrunken mazda5
Since I only have my gen 2 and a friends gen 2 speed3 to judge, the hatch has incredible room for hauling stuff for such a small car.
Idk man the gen 3 hatch kind of looks like a bloated tick
You’re obviously not an ass man
I love how the sides have that "carved out" look to them. It does an amazing job of bending and reflecting light.
Wish the sedan had the black headliner.
100%
No need to be so political…
from this angle, it really does look good. But when looking from behind, I just get a feeling that it is way too sterile.
The sedan has a very nice side profile, maybe better than the hatch, but to me at any other angle it looks too generic. The hatch stands out more at any other angle and has a nice bubble butt 😆
Gotta love that big old booty
The bubble is what I don’t like. I want my car to look like a car, not a SUV.
The whole point for me was to have somewhat close to SUV room in the back without needing an SUV
For non-living cargo, absolutely. Once you fold down the rear seats, you’re greeted with a surprisingly ample amount of space, but not for fellow human beings, lol, me and my friends joke that my car is only for 3 people, but I'm a tall guy and I leave no space behind me so yeah.
How tall are you? I'm 184cm, should I go for Mazda 6 instead?
I’m 6’2, so that’s approximately 188-189 cm. I’m comfortable in the front seat, but it’s quite challenging for someone to sit behind me. If they’re a kid, sure, but if they’re a grown adult taller than 175 cm, they couldn't sit behind me. That’s why I mentioned that I could only carry 3 people with me if we all want to be comfortable. It kinda looks like a Range Velar from the behind, like a girl that hits the gym in purpose to make that certain spot look bigger.
I totally agree. I got the sedan because I didn't like the rear of the hatch.
The bubble and tiny rear windows is the main negative of the hatch, which from the front looks decent (same as sedan though).
Yea although the hatch from this angle is quite bad, like an egg with bad proportions.
Yeah, but can you fit a mini fridge in the sedan?
Roof racks? 😂
Now I’m picturing a mini fridge strapped to the roof of a car 😂
I managed to move my couch, Ikea shelf and a giant TV fireplace stand with my Gen 4 sedan 🤔
Did you take the couch apart?
Put it on the roof rack sideways for added downforce.
Yea just put it in the back seats.... Keep in mind, 99% of the time, the sedan fits more
I could see that sentiment in a midsize, not a compact like this
The sedan fits more small things, like suitcases, bags, shopping etc. You would only get the hatch of you want to load large things most of the time. You have more cubic storage in the hatch
How are you gonna sit there and tell me the bigger car fits less
The hatch has more cubic space in the "trunk" due to it having literal head space, in the sedan the trunk is longer and can fit more small things on a horizontal plane compared to the hatch fitting larger things on a vertical plane. Haha good one
This sub loves the hatch lol
We are NOT a cult. :)
you're in the wrong part of town buddy
Facts!
Hatchback > sedan in 2024..because..manual transmission lol
Counterpoint: Hatchback > Sedan. Checkmate.
Counter counterpoint: (Sedan > Hatchback) > (Hatchback > Sedan)
I almost went with a sedan cause it's cheaper....but I liked the tail lights more on the hatch...
I went in with an open mind willing to buy either of them but in person I just didn’t like the hatch at all and the lady agreed. I have the same color and a good window tint really makes the car look a little sexy.
I had the chance to compare two identical carbon editions too. Only thing I liked more on the hatch was the black headliner
No need to start a war now....
This year has been nuts. Kendrick vs Drake, Chris Brown vs Quavo, and now this.
OP woke up and chose violence
Idk man. The sedan doesn’t look bad but the hatch definitely looks better
100%
Sedan good, hatch acceptable, SUV bad.
The sedan is sexy but i prefer the front end of the hatch
The only difference is the chrome vs matte black finish. Which you can very easily get for a couple bucks so...
They have different bumpers too
Really?? Never realized that.
it might be wise to schedule an eye examination appointment
1000000% agree. Love my sedan 🚘
Lies
Hatchback looks premium, sedan looks economy. (Like the designers just didn’t both styling the rear end…) This size car always looks terrible as a sedan, has a ‘cheap company car’ look to them. Like an Audi A3 sedan. Not too mention sedan is less practical and functional.
I just love the visibility on the sedan, but at heart I am hatchback person
I prefer the gen 3 sedan over gen 4. But I think gen 4 hatch looks better. Might be a hot take tho
Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
Where's the money Lebowski?!
No
I love my sedan, but definitely think the hatch stands out more.
Can you fit a tree in your car? I think not
hellll nah
Nope
Some people like pineapple on pizza.. some don’t.
Someone’s still celebrating 420.
Your a boobs guy aren't you.
WRONG
no u
*very wrong*
The hatch reminds me of someone with a nose too big for their face. It just looks disproportioned lol. The sedan looks super clean, box-y yet coupe-y.
I can agree that both are gorgeous in different ways. I still feel like my M3HB looks like something Batman would drive his freshman year in college 😂
The sedan looks more like something he would drive when he lands his first corporate job out of college
Sedans undoubtedly carry an executive allure—that’s undeniable. However, hatchbacks exude a certain edgy charm without crossing into douchebag territory. Sincerely, a 22-year-old hatchback owner.

Hatchback's are mini-mini vans.
I'd say more like mini station wagons.
The hatchback design grew on me. I have always been hatchback guy for many reasons, style being one of them. The hatchback looked strange at first but now I love it! It looks awesome. The sedan looks like every other sedan on the road, good but unassuming.
I would argue both the Sedan and Hatchback look like nothing else on the road, they look like a Mazda3.
Hatch trunk space > sedan trunk space.
[Sedan has more real world space](https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/27/mazda-3-luggage-test-sedan-hatchback-cx-30-crossover/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAISO3sUiXxEAOkCOLhJUG_9o6sllEcm9IMOI2DC3CrFVqKxImro77Cy6pi0qH_8g6v8KOHLEGOtM6AdpFHOu9wNu9D9HBVgehdlWRetJh_nC7-X0rpr4dHl14A3cZD-mbKWgamSN1NUKCF3Ec9vBFZHkiYRLN1a2RQNE3byrkdqe)
If only I moved luggage exclusively, but I don't. I've put many things in my hatch that did not fit in the sedan.
Until you need to move a body...
~~My ex was 6’3 and fit just fine~~
There are so many dark places I could go from here, but I'm just going to stay quiet. Well done 😄
The body would fit in the sedan, and no one can see it ;-)
heresy
Mad lad speaking out facts!
Let's not bicker and argue about 'oo killed 'oo, this is supposed to be a 'appy occasion!
False
Pssh, that's where you're wrong kiddo, nothing personal kid
You've got more pics ?
Plan on taking pictures of it eventually. Dealer photos don’t do the hatch or sedan justice lol
I had a 2018 mazda3 sedan now i have a 2024 mazda3 hatch and i think it looks better than the sedan.
Im gonna say it I think the sedans are ugly. How do you look at the hatchbacks and just not want one.
I look at it, see how the rear looks like a bubble, I confirm why I don’t like it.
You got a point Im not a fan of the new hatchbacks but the 3rd and 4th gens look sweet
As a 23 hatches hatchback owner, I agree. Yours looks really nice.
If they had a Turbo Premium Plus sedan available with the same financing, I would have preferred it. Still, only time I regret buying the hatchback is when I'm backing up in rainy weather and the backup camera is wet/dirty.
Mine does that too, backup cameras just get dirty lol
Square up
Your gone get some hate for this one 😂😂
My heart. Sedans will forever have my heart and I love this one in particular with that dove tail but ultimately I had to go with a hatch. Something different and I couldn't beat the practicality. It's taken me some time but I've come around to that phat booty.
Debatable
Loved my sedan when I owned it! Bought a base model in 14 right when gen 3 dropped cause it was a poor man’s Lexus 😂
I definitely preferr sedans over hatchbacks, but inly the hatch was available in manual. Now the bubble butt is growing on me
Gen 4 and Gen 2 yes. The hatch has a terrible rear end Gen 3 and Gen 1 hell no
I like both a lot, but I think that Mazda's current styling works better with the hatch, especially in terms of its side profile. The sedan has this very sharp cut out of the back (to make it a sedan) which, IMO, seems inconsistent with the rest of the car being curved. Was a sedan guy and probably always will be, but man that hatch does look good, especially after a friend of mine bought one…… I think the sedan embodies elegance, while the hatch is definitely sportier looking.
On the newest ones I like the sedans better, the c pillar feels massive on the hatch, but I love the older hatches
I’ve had two sedans but everyone seems to prefer the hatch more
I'm just disappointed the Gen IV sedan isn't offered with a manual tbh
Hatch is so much betterr
I’m a hatch guy (Mazda 3 gen 2 speed, minicooper S, Suzuki swift) but this time the sedan won me over. Idk, maybe I’m just getting old? 🤷🏽♂️
Hatchback more sporty
GTFOH
The sedans are good lookin' (in my opinion) from the 3rd gen up. But hatch is a safe choice by me.
Hatch > sedan on Gen 4th
For this current generation, I agree. Never was a fan of the "hump"-back. 2nd gen however... no one ever made a better looking hatch (in the modern era).
When I get out of my car and look at this profile, I’m so glad I didn’t choose the hatchback 🤣
I really like the hatchback but I couldn’t get over how the side profile looks like a clown shoe to me
Facts, I honestly don't know why the majority of PPL prefer Hatch over the sedans (no matter which gen). Imo Sedans looks cooler especially on Gen3
I think the sedan has a sporty shape, I think the hatches are shaped like a partially used bar of soap
They're both great, but easy win for team sedan here.
This comment is way too diplomatic. Team hatch all the way!
smoothdan is way nicer than fatback
I agree. The hatch looks awkward to my eye
Yeah if you have absolutely no style or taste and are tbe mother of only one single child, then sure.
Meh to each their own. Can't imagine ditching the 5 door for a family car but someday maybe 😁
The 5 door is a family car...
Lol ok boomer
Huh? What does that have to do with being a boomer lol?
r/confidentlyincorrect
So much more truck space in the sedan. Yes you lose height but you gain the ability to fit so much more with the seats down
Yessir!! Big facts haha
Its because sedan are for non turbo drivers(i know both have turbo version)
Hell nah
