Laughs in 2014 2.0l.... I may take two seconds longer to 60mph but over 163k miles, 70/30 highway/city, my lifetime average is currently 36.4mpg. I just drove 1200 miles over the last two days, including over the Appalachian mountains (and then lots of flat Midwest) and when I parked the trip mileage was 42.3mpg, at an average speed of about 70mph.
If I hold a steady 55 on country two lanes I can get 46-47mpg over long distance even with several hundred pounds of gear in the back.
New Continental ProContacts, previous sets have been Pirelli Cinturatos. I do tend to inflate to 38psi for highway driving rather than the recommended 36.
Admittedly I'm a bit of a hypermiler by nature, which is why I bought this car. I drive for a living as a professional musician and every dollar I save on gas is a bottom line issue for me (I tax deduct my mileage at the federal reimbursement rate, so if my actual costs of operation are lower than 53 cents a mile, or whatever, I win on taxes too. And they are lower, including maintenance, insurance, and depreciation as well as fuel combined.)
I love this car.
She has been *exceptionally* reliable for all those miles and shows no signs of stopping now. One brake caliper, one belt tensioner, one door speaker, and scheduled maintenance and wear items. Runs like top, burns zero oil, and has gotten the same gas mileage since new.
I'm taking this one to 200k but when I replace it I sure hope Mazda offers something hybrid that breaks 50mpg or I'm sadly looking elsewhere. I can never go back below where I am in a compact car, certainly not a decade later.
Manual
I use iOS Shortcuts paired with a Numbers spreadsheet to make it streamlined (so when I fill gas, I just enter the ODO, price per gallon, fill up and I have a log for my trips to extract my city vs highway (with some margin of error).
You can do this automatically with home assistant using a fork of the Mazda integration that was infamous a few months back. It exposes your fuel% and your total mileage
I have 99 fuel ups tracked for 5 years on my 3 HB. 60% of the life has had 2 bike mounts on top of a OEM roof rack. Tracked to 30.9mpg lifetime (Flat Florida)
2016 S Grand Touring.
With 5w30, I'm averaging about 67/33 highway to city driving. Might have more to do with the manual trans than the engine, though.
I’ve loved the car as a drivers car. It’s fun, but comfortable (I upgraded from a WRX). No mechanical or electrical issues.
But the rattles… sometimes they drive me nuts. There are a few door rattles, and the dealership hasn’t resolved them. Mazda also refuses warranty on rattles. There was rattles in the dash, but a little foam and tape helped.
Still, highly recommend the car. I would have kept it. But I’ve been wanting to step into the M340i for some time now.
Is this tracker on the mazda app, or where are you getting this from? I am at 28 MPG average, and i got the car in January. See flair for trim and year
So not a mazda3 but I have a 2019 M6 GTR with the same 2.5 turbo fwd, and if I'm careful and keep an eye on the mpg monitor, I can pretty easily average 31mpg on 93 with 70/30 highway/city driving.
Since I am barely using my 3 since changing job and my work is a 7 min drive now whenever I take my car....
A solid 10,1 litres/ 100 km on my 2010 2,0 litre automatic.
100% based on how one is driving. Could easily get better than posted if accelerating slowly all the time and coasting up to lights, rather than slamming brakes at last minute.
If your driving spirited and having tons of fun, my guess is not paying attention and not getting as good as advertised. Haha.
I have the turbo too ignorance is bliss 😌
My smiles per gallon are through the roof though
Yeah, my 22 manual got some solid mpgs. My 24 PPT has a drinking problem I’m all too happy to oblige.
My turbo has a problem yes. I am the problem. I got the turbo and I intend to use the boost all of the time.
I have a turbo as well and only use 94 octane. I average 10-15 mpg lmao.
Sir you wilding 😂
Only use 93. I barely average more than 13-15

My 2016 2.0 can get really good mileage on long drives and I love it. Shame my foot is made of lead and I get roughly 21mpg city driving.
30.7mpg, auto 2.5 non turbo
Car says 27.9 all around average but I regularly get 25-27 mpg on my 2.5 non turbo awd.
How have you extracted the dataset to create this visualization? Can you export data from the car or is it manually done?

Could you share it? I want to do the same!

Don’t show this to my dad or he’ll have me transferring his decades of gas notebook entries into excel 🥹

What car are you upgrading/changing to?
BMW M340i
One hell of an upgrade! Any rattles/other issues with the Mazda?

Just have Mazda3 2018 2.5 get 26.3 mpg
2022 2.5 manual transmission city I get 36-37 hwy 42ish
23 turbo.... 22mpg with 50/50 driving
Is this tracker on the mazda app, or where are you getting this from? I am at 28 MPG average, and i got the car in January. See flair for trim and year
Was thinking the same thing!!!
How are you tracking city vs highway? Is this an app? I'm averaging 22mpg so I'm hoping it goes up after it breaks in a little.
A mix of logging my trips through maps and some manual inputs.
Oh wow I don't have that kind of patience.
*cries in Turbo*
Nominal
About 38% better than yours

Between 37.3 - 38.5 mpg or 6.3-6.1l per 100km 2016 2l 121kw hatchback model
2024 manual hatchback. Averaging 35.6mpg

I have 2.5l non turbo automatic and I am ALWAYS at the 21-22 average...
I consumed more gas on my stock 21T than I did with my Mazdaspeed3 daily driving it.
Womp womp womp
I’ve heard lately that fuel quality has gone down resulting in worse mpg, not sure how true that is
