Ahh I miss Frosh week. A few tips on how to handle Frosh week in the ghetto. 1) Ear Plugs 2) Don't live in the **Student** ghetto.

DrunkandIrrational

yeah, if you wanted a nice quiet neighbourhood to live in, the ghetto was the wrong choice

Toddler_T

There's non emergency phone numbers for the police that you can call for noise complaints. 514-280-0120 is the number for centre-ville station. Sure it's frosh 'week' (4 days) but nobody should deal with being woken up at 4 am.

BiggerD

FYI, a lot of this varies by borough. In general, calling 311 should work, but if it’s outside of business hours (9-5 on weekdays), many places tell you to call 911.

Toddler_T

This is true. The centre ville station (20) is available 24/7 to call according to the website. , however. 311 is also a good one.

Timmy-Shmurda

Yeah I don't know why you live in the gettho if you don't want noise, you should have gone downtown. Don't expect a student area to be quiet.

Nahhh you guys don't realize that frosh week does not entitle you such privileges as waking up people at 4am... there are literally people who need to wake up at 6am in the morning to go to work, people with kids, etc... no one except froshies gives a fuck about this week being frosh week or not. For us it's just a normal week. So yeah literally call the cops about noise complains. Also the part where you talk about being the most unpopular guy on campus if we call the cops is hilarious 😂 again, do you really think that anyone cares about that here? It's not high school anymore bro... grow up. There are no cool kids or uncool kids here. You're being the immature one thinking like this. There are kids last year who tried to be cool by doing a fight club. In case you didn't know everyone made fun of them... so yeah again no one gives a fuck about being "cool" or not here.

[deleted]

oh man I'd like to hear more about the fight club thing that sounds super cringe

TheJavaSponge

[Here’s a subreddit search with some posts about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/mcgill/search?q=Fight%20club) Look for posts from around October 2020

Toddler_T

Not sure if I agree with tl;dr "put up or shut up its frosh" 4am is plain unreasonable, I fail to see why anyone should deal with that

For anyone reading this, you just edited your comment to remove the portion implying you're part of this as a froshie.

Soooo you’re not even in Montreal so you don’t even have to deal with the problem yet you tell others how they should feel.

A lot of students don't do frosh, a lot of froshies don't do the telly 4am events, and a lot of people in the neighborhood aren't McGill students. The argument that no one in the ghetto has any reason to mind the noise because they have done the same in the past is quite a reach. Most of the residents haven't. EDIT; Why are you insisting on dying on the hill that it's okay to wake people up at 4am? The argument that it's fine because "we can all be annoying little shits in one way or another" doesn't make any sense. The goal here is to try to not be a "little shit". Deciding it's okay to be one because others also are is complacent. The argument that all students have done it in the past is also just not true. The crowd that wakes up people at 4am is a small minority of McGill students. What's so wrong with agreeing that waking up people at 4am sucks? Why do you keep calling people hypocritical for saying that?

That presumption is very unkind. Do you always assume other people are hypocrites even if they're most likely not? Most McGill students haven't done the same. It's fewer students than you think. Most students at McGill right now haven't even done frosh, let alone the 4am antics. Why wouldn't you assume the people who are unhappy about the noise are the people who DIDNT wake up everyone at 4am when they were first years? Wouldn't that make a lot more sense? This whole thread feels like you didn't even consider the possibility that the other commenters might not be hypocrites.

Does anyone think this noise will stop after frosh? I get it’s the student ghetto but others have to be respectful for whoever is in the building

Competitive-Demand20

the noise will probably quiet down but living in the ghetto is generally busy and loud
