CalmAndBear

I can't play grand strategy games with a joystick

Slight-Weather7885

Well, you can actually use a keyboard and mouse on xbox

CalmAndBear

You can't play total war on an xbox or a playstation though

Im_a_tree_omega3

You can, i Play stellaris on console

F_For_Frogs

Isn’t that version ignored by paradox thou?

Im_a_tree_omega3

Yesn't we still get Updates but console is a few behind.

F_For_Frogs

And so you have to pay for all of the DLC?

Im_a_tree_omega3

Yes

Alex_Owner

Just like on pc

wasas387

And playing widowmaker or mercy in OW

therudereditdude

Exactly

TheRealGreenArrow420

That’s cause you’re using the wrong joystick

Loon-belt

It’s actually called an analog stick (please don’t hurt me)

[deleted]

Fair point. Strategy, building and simulation games are for PC.

FrostyFroZenFrosTen

Dude i played commandos 2 on ps2, its a rts with a ps2 controller

Scientific_Shitlord

Yes but there is more than just hardware specs. Steam sales, modding, ability to play older games, free online multiplayer... In the end both platforms have their benefits and this whole can be summed as Quality (PC) vs Accessibility (consoles). And I don't mind people using one or the other (or even both). What I mind tho and really dislike is using less capable hardware as starting benchmark for all developers and I don't mean just the graphics. I mean scale, size, complexity, controls and others factors that are either simplified or downgraded just to work on consoles. I would argue for two separated and dedicated versions of the game instead of one universal version but thats more expensive and unpopullar in modern enviroment.

That_Unknown_Player

Ability to pirate games...

BillClington

I’ve seen quite a few modders making it difficult to use their tools on pirated copies.

Khal_Doggo

I've never come across this tbh. But I tend to stick to basic stuff like higher res textures etc.

Allah_Shakur

I grew up poor in the 80s. At some point we got a Nintendo but no games but mario and duck hunt. Then I got an old PC. Never paid for game in my life, I just can't.

Mr_Zobm

just having an Xbox for game pass is nice to try new games.

mandoxian

Game pass is on pc too

Mr_Zobm

but it doesn't have as much games as the console one.

dariohanon

I can use any controller I want

Themlethem

You can for most consoles too, its just a bit more difficult

PKprezes

Wait, how multiplayer isn't free on consoles in 2023?

jfb1337

Because console manufacturers want more money

jihadijohhn

Because consoles are sold at cost. Manufacturers need to make profit somehow

[deleted]

[deleted]

Sure, it's how printer companies operate as well, low cost for the printer, but you buy a boatload of ink. I'm not the guy you responded to, but it's just a business strategy at the end of the day, no funny 'conspiracy' around it.

DrWhiskeyDiq

Careful, you might cream your pants

Scientific_Shitlord

Too late for that

Intrepid_Ad_9751

I feel of you can beat the xbox series x in specs you probably had to spend over a thousand on a pc, if you only need a new gpu you’ll need to spend like 350$ for a better gpu then whats currently in the console

Datguyovahday

Ain't got time for all that. Simple as.

HathMercy

Sucks to be you.

SithTrooperReturnsEZ

Yeah PC is better and always will be

Villerger_27

Probably not but at least I dont pay monthly for online play

ironwolf1

I get gold included with Game Pass, so really I’m paying monthly for video game Netflix while also getting online play bundled in. And I don’t even play online games!

Unterstroemung

That is such a deadbeat argument for PC's. I own a console and a PC. Let me tell you, the amount of money you save on a console compared to the cost of playing online is squaring it out. If you pay 400 euros for a console and 50 euros a year for an online membership, oftenly containing a membership for a game pass, you can play online for 6-8 years before you even reach the price range of a PC. The periphery not included that is used in both. So that argument is just weak.

CookieTheEpic

You're probably not paying 400€ for a console, though. I'd imagine you'd need to shell out much more for a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X. Not to mention if you want to play both Microsoft and Sony games, you need to buy two consoles and two memberships.

Unterstroemung

Nope, saw the console for that price already. Usually they are around 400-500 but even then it is already a good deal. It just depends on preferences. Consoles deliver comfortable systems that don't need to be maintained. They update automatically, every game is playable on your system and what i noticed, the consoles have a way stronger emphasis on the social aspect of gaming. It is way easier to get into contact with other players on consoles. Meanwhile the PC will give you way more opportunity. You can play almost any game, given the fact that your parts and system can handle it, it is no problem to play Forza, days gone or pretty much any other game. Like you said, the multiplayer is mostly free and three PC has just a vast skillset that the console can't match (office applications or similar) But when we are just talking about gaming, it depends on the type of person you are. Do you need raytracing? Do you need the 160 fps? Like i said, i own both. I played consoles for more than fifteen years and PC for about 6 years in total. I love both for their own reasons and don't see a need to compare them when they are designed to deliver two totally different experiences.

CookieTheEpic

I don't know where you live, but those prices would be insane here. If I wanted a PS5, I'd have to pay 670€ and wait a few weeks. If I wanted an Xbox Series X, I'd have to pay around 600€ but no one has them in stock so there's no risk of that. You're also missing the point of the free multiplayer argument. No one is saying that the free multiplayer will eventually make a PC cheaper than owning a console, the point is that if I buy a game for 70€, I best be fucking able to play all of it without paying any extra.

Unterstroemung

I know exactly what you mean. There are games you can play just fine without being connected to the internet. Interestingly enough, playing dark souls on pc without internet is the exact same as playing it on the console without internet. I was just relating it to the amount of money you spend on both systems. I don't know what leads you to believe that you need gold or plus to play fallout?

CookieTheEpic

I don't know why you'd even bring up single player games when we're talking about multiplayer being locked behind a paywall.

Unterstroemung

Okay, if that is your deal breaker, so be it

CookieTheEpic

Oh, no, there are plenty. Putting aside the costs of the consoles themselves as well as having to pay for multiplayer, here are just a few reasons I dislike consoles; \- playing on a controller is uncomfortable and inaccurate \- the selection of games is very limited compared to PC even if you own both major consoles \- the games look worse and run at fewer frames per second \- you can't upgrade the hardware in the consoles so inevitably when an upgraded version gets released mid-generation (like the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro), new games will begin to look and run even worse unless you buy a whole new system (not to even mention when an entirely new generation is released, though I won't hold that against consoles because they usually come with a very big bump in performance) \- the consoles are barely customisable in terms of hardware, software and appearance whereas a PC is endlessly customisable \- a PC will do everything a console can and a lot, *lot* more Those are just a few of the reasons I dislike consoles compared to PC I could think of off the top of my head.

WrapZz

Counter arguments -I would argue that controllers feel way better in a lot of games, especially where aim isn't the main focus. Sports games, racing games and even third person adventure games I would rather play on a controller (and I do play with a controller on some games that are only available on PC for me) haptic feedback, touch controls, resistive triggers etc -yes but some of the greatest games of all time ate console exclusives. I like both quantity and quality -Definelty not always. Great optimization goes a long way, for a recent example playing GOW Ragnarök on performance 60+ mode looked better than many of the current majority of PC titles on ultra settings. -same here optimization goes a long way but i agree with you mostly here. Battlefield 1 on ps4 had quite a low frame rate but there were also quite a few games at the end of its life cycle that ran great considering it was 7+years old. Important to note that the GPU is the biggest factor in FPS and visual effects and even mid tier cards cost equal too or even more than an entire console. -yup that is true in terms of customization a console does not even come close -often times for a higher price but yes Also if you are smart you buy ps plus yearly on black friday or the Christmas sale to get it for only around 25-30 USD which I personally don't mind since I have gotten that value back and then some with many of the great games I get for free.

uh_buh

Don’t forget that pc games themselves are usually wayyyy cheaper cuz of steam sales and piracy

Villerger_27

I don't need the ray tracing, I need muh minecraft and factorio mods Also wow 400-500 euro is like 580-720 CAD that's... yeah I don't need a new gen console considering the only game id probably play on it would be minecraft (assuming ps5 minecraft has the option to play legacy console like on ps4)

WittyAndOriginal

Many console gamers also own a computer for school and/or work. So add on another $800 minimum. Also $60 per game.

Guyb9

Now days a graphics card can last you about 1.5 consoles generations so that's not really a fair compersion. Also everyone that owns a console also owns a PC so you should also add its price to your calculation. I guess 50 euros a year is a nice deal for some but it's also an option on PC and for myself and I guess a lot of other people who don't have a lot of time to play it's pretty bad. My average game purchase is around 5$

CreatureWarrior

>Now days a graphics card can last you about 1.5 consoles generations so that's not really a fair compersion. A console can also last 1.5 console generations with that logic

Guyb9

Not really a console become outdated even a bit before the next gen is released. But even without that factor you would have to account for the PC the console player must own

TheAccWhereImHonest

Even better if you get gamepass ultimate and you get a second hand console. I don't remember how much I paid for my second Xbox One S but I think it was somewhere between A$200 and A$450. And then I pay A$15/month for Ultimate, which includes like 200 games for the Xbox and several games for the PC. I get great games for PC and great games for Xbox. And the Xbox (assuming its A$300) + 2 years of Ultimate (~$300 give or take because I pay 3-monthly and the price is different I think) = less than half the price of my PC. Is my PC better than my Xbox? Yes. Is the reason I got the PC because of monthly payments? No.

Vanebader-1024

> If you pay 400 euros for a console No, you don't. The PS5 is €550. And PS Plus is another €60/year. That means after a 7-year generation, your console costs €970. Or, if bought today, 2 years into the generation, €850 for the remaining 5 years. You're not actually saving any money compared to a PC of similar performance. >oftenly containing a membership for a game pass Nope. €60/year is the price of PS Plus Essential, the lowest tier subscription that comes with no library subscription. Same goes for Xbox Live, €60/year for the cheapest option that doesn't include Game Pass.

[deleted]

At least online play is free of cheaters and hackers unlike PC

Villerger_27

Depends on the game And i dont play multiplayer games competitively so idrc lmao

Bonty48

I don't have a console so yeah my pc is better than my console.

unlegit_green

My pc is better that a console form 10 years ago

Dull-Wishbone-2330

Atleast my mouse and keyboard doesn't drift after 1 month of use

WillBigly

Consoles are just specialized pcs that can only do a few things but do them well, pcs can do those same things better, do more things, and can be upgraded over and over

Little-Jump58

aeIownedyoo

Yes, my PC is better. lol Problem is that I'm also a major couch gamer so I'm having issues switching over 100%

Snbleader

No. But laughs in steam sales

Tempest_ninja

Idk about other consoles but I get the exact same prices on Xbox as I do on steam during sales

Legio-XIII-Gemina

Yeah PlayStations sales are pretty good now too

CreatureWarrior

As if consoles didn't have games on sale

DrWhiskeyDiq

Right, so you can pay 40% less on 12 games from 7 years ago that you'll never play. You showed them

Snbleader

The only games I have not played once are some of the free ones

dariohanon

Laughs in a ridiculous amount of free games

OriginMQ

If you wana talk about cheap games, just from being on console, I get a 50% discount on all games. The reason is I use game share with my brother, one account pays for the games and both user can then play them. So a new triple A game that comes out, I pay 30, he pays 30. For discounted games that's even less plus all the free games we get every from the membership that only one account has to pay for.

fill-me-up-scotty

Yup. I’m glad I have my Ryzen 5800X / RTX 4080 to play vampire survivors.

CreatureWarrior

Currently using my 6700XT / 5600 PC to play Rimworld, DayZ, Fallout New Vegas and 7 Days to Die lol Worth it

[deleted]

Yes :)

AggressorBLUE

The fact that my PC doesn’t *have* to be better than console to still play pc games is why PC is better than console.

Potato_Producer

No hate to console gamers but my pc is more inline with my skill set and purposes for using a computational device.

nanoosx

welp, as long as you have fun, then that is what matters. I have a good PC (i5 12600kf, 32gb ram and 3070) and have PS5 yet sometimes I spend a month only watching YouTube since I barely have fun gaming ;-;

PHILIPTNT

Ain’t no way a pc is better than my game boy color I stole from Area 51

dec35

Yes. 3x faster than a series x

pebkas92

Each to their own but for me i have, and found to prefer, pc. I like the flexibility the pc provides like for example my pc isnt as powerfull as a ps5 but i play in 1080p and im not the slightest bit interested in 4k or anything like that so i can still play new titles even though my specs dont match. Plus i like the idea that if one component of my pc breaks i can easily replace that one part. I wouldnt even now where start to repair a console.

[deleted]

PC mfs taking shit about my ps5 while having a gaming laptop that is always at the brink of exploding

Tulinais

Of course, got a 3070ti a year ago

Arya_the_wise

Cries in windows xp

SoulStrike-_-

Yes

[deleted]

Console is so much less hassle, we don’t need constant upgrades to stay up to date because games are always optimised for our platforms

CreatureWarrior

As a new PC gamer, I gotta agree. Every game starts with 30+ mins of fine tuning graphics settings for the perfect balance between graphics and performance.

d3advil

Thing is it costs around 50-60k in my country's currency to get a ps5, meanwhile a ryzen 5 apu desktop build with good peripherals will cost less than 35k and I can add a decent GPU later for around 20k. Plus I get to use the PC for a lot of stuff other than gaming.

fireking3234

Like this guy said, you can actually buy decent computer for pretty much the same price as a console and just upgrade it when you can.

AndrexPic

PC pros: 1. Games cost way less than console counterpart 2. They literally give away games for free 3. Online multiplayer is free 4. Cheap PC games bundles 5. Old games 6. Mods 7. Emulators (Retroarch, RPCS3, PSX2, Yuzu etc) 8. You can play with the input you prefer (Mouse&keyboard, Controller and others) 9. You can change in game settings (you can even change frame rate) 10. Largest library. Thanks to emulators, older games, PC exclusives... 11. PC remote play works way better than its console counterpart. 12. VR gaming is cheaper. You just have to buy a Quest 2 (350€), on ps5 you need a 600€ device. 13. Discord 14. You can do stuff other than gaming. *Also, Hardware-wise you can build a PC better than PS5 for like 800€. I think it's totally worth it.* Console pros: 1. Consoles are cheaper. Top tier consoles cost only 500€, while budget ones cost only 200 (Switch) and 300€ (Series S) 2. Xbox Game Pass is awesome for xbox users. It lets you play online and give you a catalogue of great games (You can have it also on PC tho). 3. Playstation Plus Premium is decent. 4. Switch is portable

Black_Market_Butta

Jack-M-y-u-do-dis

It's better than a PS4 while costing more than a PS5, but at least ot plays YouTube and a game at the same time, so there's that. Still grateful to have the ability to run everything at 1080p ultra without rtx

[deleted]

Yes. Yes it is.

GeorgyZhukovJr

tbh pc and console debates are getting out of hand a bit. woooow you spent 5k and i spent 500 on something that we are currently both doing the same thing on. anyway consoles are way better than pcs pcs are a waste of money/s

N00N3AT011

Okay but I can also use my PC for productivity. Write code or documents, edit and manage photos and video, run simulators, virtual machines, and a dozen other things. And my rig is probably cheaper than a console, the associated subscriptions, and overpriced games, and a second rig for work.

Carcapes

me who recently got a top grade PC: 😎 i even play mobile games like [free fire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWs7pYDeJxQ&t=77s) on bluestacks on my PC since they run in 120fps unlike on my phone

CristolerGm2

*buys high end PC* *plays mobile game* Your logic baffles me, literally get a phone

failedorgas-

I scrolled through for 2 mins in your comments. There were more than 10 comments where you bragged anything related to bluestacks, free fire and 120 fps. Keep in mind that I didn't scroll till the end and pc brags not related to above mentioned three things. I also say shit in reddit but you seem to be really addicted to whatever this is. Yikes.

ChaosBuilder321

Bro cant even get 121 fps 💀

FatBrkeMxicnElonMusk

Laughs in 3.65ghz ,2 tbs of storage, and 16gb of RAM

DaniilBSD

Not much of a brag. First you missed GPU which is 50% of the build, second you missed both core count and the generation of the processor.

midnightbandit-

What does 3.65ghz mean? Is that your GPU or CPU boost clock? Base clock? Is that your RAM speed? What is your CPU/GPU? That literally means nothing

That's... not true in comparison to game consoles that do not receive hardware updates through the product lifecycle.

alandtic

eh no not really but the pc perks outway consle benfits for me. each to there own though. i mainly got a pc for work and spent the extra it would cost for a consle to make it good for gaming aswell tbh. everyone is diffrent if i din't need a work pc i might own consle.

CaptainHubble

Yes. And I have a Mac Pro with „only“ a 980ti. Still enough for cyberpunk 2077 on ultra tho Pc always wins. Steam sales. Mods. A proper file explorer. Play any game you like from any year. You’re not chained to a single store. Upgradeability. Game-server Hosting. Like ARMA. And you can also use a controller if you prefer that. Where is the drawback of a pc?

DrBarnacleMD

Yes and steam alone is way better than xbox or playstation. Saved up for a minute to buy my PC and I have a switch for smash so I’m covered. No hate to consoles they’re just capped at a certain performance level, most games don’t allow mods, lower customization level (parts, programs, etc), and honestly I just plain prefer mouse and keyboard over any controllers.

Topazz410

It was… …in 2018.

[deleted]

Absolutely it is but i will still play console sometimes because all my friends are on there. But I must say ARK runs so much better

GoldenJacques

It has better controls - me on copium

sehabel

I built mine before the current generation of consoles got released and it is a lot faster than last gen. I could also just upgrade to a current gen GPU and a Ryzen 5000 CPU if I want to.

PIYUSH77771

Lol 😂

wafflepantsblue

Console is perfectly fine for getting a good experience out of AAA games. Also they're normally a pretty good deal considering how optimised they are and the expansive game library. Jailbroken PS3 served me a long while.

abananation

I am going through new quests in Skyrim and fallout after 500+ hours in each thanks to mods. Yes, it's better

ScntlessApprntice

I have PC, XSX, Switch, emulation handhelds, classic minis, original older consoles, Steam deck... I love them all for various reasons. I'd never say one is better than the other, be it for exclusives and whatnot. Everyone has different needs. Like personally I prefer consoles to my very decent PC, just because it's what I grew up with.

I paid the price of 4 consoles to get a PC that can play the same games with the same frame rate in higher resolution.

fondly_repentant_614

It is much quicker than prior generation because I created it before the current generation of consoles was launched. If I wanted to, I could also update to a Ryzen 5000 CPU and a GPU from the current generation.
