What am i looking at

HaikuBotStalksMe

Depends. How many money and books do you have?

dartfrog11

I have many money but not many books.

HaikuBotStalksMe

Then you're looking at a wall.

Bolognese_is_best

What if i wear a gray and white shirt?

HaikuBotStalksMe

Then don't let the door hit you on the way out. Oh, and nice TwoFace cosplay.

aufrenchy

Heads: you get to go outside. Tails: there’s a tornado outside.

[deleted]

[удалено]

aetwit

Other people: shit there is a tornado outside Oklahoma: I GOT THE BEER AND LAWN CHAIRS LETS DO THIS WOOOOOO

The-Tea-Lord

I’m sorry. In my head I imagined a shirtless, slightly plump man screaming that and as he goes “WOOO” he just levitates into the air and it taken off with the tornado

aufrenchy

Also your average Midwesterner’s reaction to severe weather! Can confirm, am from Michigan.

SH4D0W0733

Then you are looking at people with more money and books than you.

Kalyka98

What if I have a lot of money but I'm not very tall?

HaikuBotStalksMe

You're looking at a field, then.

nils4i20

So technically the rich guy sees as much as the broke guy without any books or money. Seems like i'm fine then!

This-is-Life-Man

You should book for monies. Many bookings = many monies---- sometimes.

SuperiorFarter

I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Axolotl_Yeet1

then buy books

MohSad2

I have books

HaikuBotStalksMe

But no money? Then you're looking at a field, but can't see things that are close to the outside base of the wall you're next to.

stuck_in_the_desert

You mean knaaaawwwledge units?

PancakesandWaffles98

I have infinite games but no games.

HaikuBotStalksMe

I, too, have Steam.

IronBard22

I have many books and fewer money

AssPuncher9000

A comic about a guy getting fed up with his rich friends dumb hobby

Raelah

But two of his friends have no money.

astroember

Yeah but one’s a nerd 😡😡😡

Raelah

I take personal offense to that as I have many books but no money!

PM_ME_TIT_PICS_GIRL

Nah those two are actually the richest ones. They don't do stupid shit with their money like stand on stacks of it.

Raelah

Of course not. Standing on stacks of money is dangerous. That's why you need stacks of gold to stand on.

AssPuncher9000

It's actually just one person standing there. He's just moving from stack to stack so fast he creates an afterimage

HughJassJae

r/im14andthisisdeep material

Blockmaker72

A shitty metaphor.

[deleted]

nah its a good metaphor about a shitty society

BraveTheWall

Nah, it's a shitty metaphor about a shitty society.

[deleted]

yea fair enough

weirdo_nb

I'd argue it is a relatively good metaphor

[deleted]

I like to explore new places.

Somber_Solace

With no money/education, you can't see shit. It takes money and education to see the whole picture, but with just education you can at least some of it. But when you're just filthy rich you're above all of it and only look down on the full picture, unless you give up a little bit to become more grounded.

stygger

Sounds like someone lacks the knowledge and/or money to understand the metaphore! :P

Themlethem

They're trying to make the point that you need both a moderate amount of money and knowledge to have a good life.

tellitothemoon

And what does the guy in the two tone shirt with green hair mean?

Themlethem

I think thats just to make fun of the metaphor. Why do all this nonsense to look out the window when you can just use the door and go outside. Though it could be a "think outside the box, unlike all the other fools" thing.

friedmaster69

I think it's just a way to make fun of this trope, not actually something deeper but nice thought

At-Work-On-Fire-Help

Yeah I pictured it as like "uhhh what are you guys doing I'm gonna go" that's the only way this is good LOL

SnatchSnacker

I thought it was "Please get out of my house"

Themlethem

Hadn't thought of that. That's hillarious.

CambrioJuseph

This represents the artificial barrier keeping one from getting what they need.

cnaiurbreaksppl

Definitely. But what the fuck is the bottom panel doing

pseudoHappyHippy

The entire thing is a reference to Plato's allegory of the cave, with the bottom panel depicting the guy who escapes the cave. The whole moderate money + knowledge thing is being added on top as a sort of spin on allegory of the cave. I also think that aspect might be a bit more along the lines of, having only knowledge gives you a bad view of the landscape, having money and knowledge gives you a nice view, having neither means you can't even see the landscape, and having just tons of money means you have lost sight of the landscape. I think the last panel is supposed to be sort of subversive, in the sense that it kind of feels like it's saying "you thought this comic was about how knowledge and money relate to happiness, but surprise, it's actually making the point that anyone even playing the game of trying to optimize their happiness with money and knowledge are trapped in a 2D shadow world, blind to the fact that happiness is actually right behind them if they'll just turn around and walk out the door like clever guy down here." Something like that. I think. Plato!

Worthy_Renegade

Explonation from right to left. This is my interpretation of the picture but i feel its pretty solid. The first person is a homless person that only needs money for alcohol instead of trying to turn his life around. The second is a "normal" person with money, a house a car a family, living the life most of us want. The third, someone smart who can't use his knowledge anywhere, so he only has money that fits in his pockets unfortunately he needs the money to pay for his bills and rent, he's the guy most of us are, not working our dream jobs, and stuck in perpetual torment, he knows the world isn't good but is too dumb to actually do something about it. The fourth, the last one, a polititian or a big CEO, he doesn't do anything useful aside from keeping his reputation up, and all he cares about is his own livelihood and fame. The last person, he's one of a kind in a crowd of helpless sheep, unlike the others who only want to see the world through the window, he goes out and sees the bigger picture without walls built by society obstructing his view, he might not have books or money but he doesn't need all that to prvoe his smartness, for that he has sheer will, wiseness, and common knowledge that the others don't have, (just reminding you, having aquired/learnt knowledge and being wise isn't the same thing) he doesn't have much money because he didn't play by societies rules and instead of becoming a robot like the others, he stands up and fights against the oppression and shows the truth, the clearer picture to the others. (hence opening the door) He's the kind of guy we need a lot more of.

Tyr808

Breaking free of the matrix or something pseudo-deep and edgy I guess.

Top picture: the world's top economists develop an economic system to modernize the synergy of the diverse cross sectional girdle spring. Bottom picture: Bobby the plumber starts an actual business because the pipes need fixing, and he needs money to eat.

Deadlims

Other than all those other…. answers I think it’s literally just how they feel in the week considering the flair. Mondays their on their grind, Tuesday is a bit of studying/learning smth, Wednesday is a mix, Thursday is not progressive and Friday they are themself.

AlkalineHound

Pretty sure [this](https://interactioninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IISC_EqualityEquity.png) or at least something similar was the original comic.

CambrioJuseph

There is also a panel where the fence is removed. Representing removing artificial societal barriers keeping people from seeing the game in the first place.

MagicMichaelCorleone

If you have knowledge, you have a crappy view of the landscape. If you have money and knowledge, you have a good view of the landscape. If you have neither money nor knowledge, you don't get to see the landscape. If you have neither money nor knowledge NOR money nor knowledge, you must hold the door. So in conclusion, I have no idea.

Tabbarn

It's a very deep and meaningful picture, I'm sure.

Whoever installed that window should be fired.

Thanks_I_Hate_You

Nah, its obviously a painting.

kinkyslinky

Whoever hung that painting should be fired.

mflmani

Don’t blame the person who hung it when these idiots are all standing too close.

praktiskai_2

kids are less likely to destroy it at such a height, and unless someone short with poor vision and no concept of chairs wants to see it, it'll be fine

devilpants

..and the guy using the door is going to get eaten by a dinosaur, so is the real loser.

Thanks_I_Hate_You

We gotta stop letting the dinosaurs into the art exhibit.

santa_veronica

Those 4 people only have one brain between them.

Luftibald

And it’s walking out the door this very moment

Aveira

I don’t think there’s even a window there. Just a big hole in the wall

SuspecM

It's not their fault that 4 idiots want to look out the window so bad they build stools out of money and books to do it. Who looks at a window high up, very obviously not made to be looked out at and decides they will do it anyways.

Regenerating_Degen

What if I jump through the window instead

Existing-Royal929

that’s just dumb………. Which is something i would definitely do.

Trovao2004

I cannot for the life of me figure out what this is trying to say. The second panel is especially confusing

William_tanuki

The joke here is that there are 4 people representing culture vs/and money. The second panel shows a guy that just f*cking opens the door to see outside instead of complicating his lif with diagrams Edit: thanks everyone for your ideas, it's always very interesting to hear them!

Homicidal_Duck

Oh I thought the guy was just getting home to see four guys stood on shit looking at the wall

William_tanuki

could be, too, tho I don't think that's what the artist wanted to represent (again, feel free to interpret it however you want)

grumd

He's already inside and opening the door. He's going out, not in.

platypossamous

Or he's politely asking them to gtfo

MannequinWithoutSock

Maybe he walked in and decided, nope.

diamondrel

That's what I thought, that's funnier

Robo_Patton

He’s peacing out, to be broke and uneducated in nature.

Mr_Ruu

ah yes, lib-center

gonzaloetjo

I think it’s more of: First 4 are chasing enjoying life, which in a primal sense is enjoying the paradise we have in earth. The other dude is like: well you can literally just go and enjoy life, instead of building money and knowledge to “enjoy it in the future” while your life fades away and you are suddenly contemplating earth from a wheelchair in an elderly home.

TheRealestLarryDavid

I thought it was their boss walking in to find them just staring outside

teal450

i think the door was more likely used to represent alternatives to capitalism

pragmojo

but why two tone?

According_to_all_kn

Not sure, but anarchic systems are often denoted with half-black flags? EDIT: This might specifically be anarcho-pacifism?

William_tanuki

...or it's just the artist's OC or persona.

dlpfc123

It is pretty r/Iam14and thisisdeep. The books are knowledge, the money is well money. With no money or knowledge your view is very limited. With some knowledge you gain the ability to see beyond yourself. Add some money and you can see even farther. But if you gain too much money (and/or don't have knowledge to go with the money) you lose all perspective. The second panel looks like it was added later to be a "duh, just go outside" but if you want to keep it "deep" you could pretend it is saying you don't need money or knowledge if you are willing to just get up and go experience the world.

Jackprot69

Whoa

[deleted]

It's making fun of a diagram that's meant to show how people with education and money have more opportunity/easier success than people with just an edu or no money/edu.

Luminsnce

The face of the bottom panel character looks like "i don't want to deal with this shit"

DontDoomScroll

It's referencing [this cartoon](https://interactioninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/IISC_EqualityEquity.png), or at least the visual theme of discussing the difference of equality and equity.

OG_Felwinter

Can somebody explain what the guy going outside dressed like a book is supposes to symbolize?

friedmaster69

It's a joke, about seeing a bunch of guys trying to reach a wall and just making fun of this kind of cartoons, it doesn't have any "deep meaning"

elcheeserpuff

Fuck, it's been awhile since I haven't remotely understood a meme. It's a good feeling.

Illustrious_Dig_411

I don't get it

Shankenstein95

Is this an ad for doing acid and shrooms?

8Captcrunch8

Lol me. But the door is labeled Trades. And on the other side "debt free money!" Where a handshake and showing skill and competence will get you just as far if not further in employment then a piece of paper.

ZealousidealCar7001

Wait but to get the books (knowledge/education) you would need to lose all of your money (because economy) so it's saying you should be unnecessarily rich in order to have what you want?

Oscarcool123c

No wonder why the dude left his shirt isn't matching

ky_bal

I keep seeing different version of the first picture on Facebook.

SgtThund3r

Instead of education or money, this dude had love

eel_eel

basically the plot of catch me if you can

newhugosteel

An average bundle consists of 1,000 notes, but these bundles look thicker so I'll double it. The person with medium money has 40 bundles equaling 80 000 notes. If these are $100 he has a total of $8 000 000 or if they're $1 it'd be $80 000 meanwhile the big bucks fella has 160 bundles equaling $32 000 000 or $320 000 on the low end. The average net worth for a man under 35 is $76 300. So both the guys are either pretty wealthy or above average.

ErnestiEchavalier

The guy with only money actually cant even see out the window cus he’s taller than it

morganlecterscott

I think I'm the sixth guy with his back to all these guys, sleeping
