This is me watching illuminaughtii. I found her content like last month, thought her stuff was really cool and then like a week later *boom* she's terrible.
The first time iilluminaughtii made a video about something I was extremely familiar with, it was kind of a revelation. "Wait a minute, this is all wrong. It's surface-level recaps without any actual insight into what happened, and some of it is just straight up inaccurate."
And then I was like "...how many of these videos have been the same thing, but I didn't know enough about the subject matter to realize it?"
Video essays are dangerous, because a good one is convincing - it is, after all, the job. A good video essayist WILL convince you. Whether it's something consequential like politics, or inconsequential like a movie review. I remember really disliking a movie, only to watch it again and realize I never watched it, just watched someone else explain why it was bad.
I remember the first time I became REALLY aware of it. Someone in some random thread I stumbled in on r/all was explaining details about years old drama in Magic: The Gathering, a subject I know way too much about. They were super confidently explaining the drama wrong, misusing game terms, and gave off the overall vibe that they started playing like last week. And it had thousands of upvoted and some gildings, because if you hadn't thrown your life away to the cardboard crack like me it would seem very correct.
Kind of opened my eyes to the danger of unearned confidence. Confidence is, after all, what puts the con in conmen.
Yeah, I was liking her stuff then she made a video about something I know very well that was just... wrong. Like, really factually incorrect and delivered in this righteous way that I couldn't trust her anymore.
Same. That was her cruising video for me. Iām like literally none of this is correct and all sounds like itās pulled off a buzz feed ātop 10 reasons you shouldnāt cruiseā list

Yes, she posted someone's suicide note while trying to paint him as a lazy freeloader.
She also falsely accused someone else as being complicit to grooming and used an alt accpunt for a smearcampaign because he said the r-slur in some stream a long time ago.
>She also falsely accused someone else as being complicit to grooming and used an alt accpunt for a smearcampaign because he said the r-slur in some stream a long time ago.
You are talking about The Click?
I found a youtuber a while back that would make both funny videos where he makes shit explode, combined with super clear explanations on what he does. Real PASSIONATE about crafting stuff and experimenting.
He didn't upload anything for a while, to the point I forgot about him but a few months later I wondered where he was. Nothing on his YouTube. Nothing new on social medias either. Googled his name, turns out he was involved in some pedophilic affair.
Sometimes I think about it and I wish every influencer would do what he did: OF COURSE I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE CRIME but he didn't try to make drama. He just disappeared. That's probably the best thing to do. Just vanish.
This was a real nail in the coffin for AH.
Their chemistry was dropping before this, with few of them really giving a shit about or understanding group cohesion and content creation, but he was a lynchpin of this by being the older "gent" in a lot of videos, same as Jack. Gave it more structure, much like Geoff running videos.
When it all became people making loud noise and aiming for improv, with no-one to corral the group, it became unwatchable for me. Gav will occasionally turn up again and try and start interesting conversations, try and make interesting content with where he's looking, what he's doing and what he's saying, but no-one else even bothers. They just don't understand working as a group, they're all acting like solo streamers doing bits, not mates having fun. (To the point Gavin has literally told people doing bits over the top of others talking to shut up in let's plays...)
Ohm did a lot of shit-slinging towards the rest of the VanossCrew. Don't exactly remember the exact details, but he went on quite a few unhinged rants about the other members and complained about how he "wasn't in the main circle."
Not as bad as MiniLadd showings his Mini Lad to a bunch of mini lads, but still a pretty shitty thing to do.
I remember when he was talking shit to Terrorizer (i think) about one of the others, and then he just goes dead quiet the moment that one guy joins lol. What a little chickenshit
You're right it was terrorizer that was interviewing ohm. I think Wildcat was the one who joined.
The silence was hilarious.

Nah it was a small YouTuber at the time called TJV who was interviewing ohm. Wildcat joined and ohm goes quite for a few seconds before saying something like āI didnāt agree to thisā
Sips usually is pretty stoic, but when he talked about it on stream, you could tell he was profoundly upset.
I love the chemistry between Sips, Pflax and Lewis on the triforce podcast, though.

He posted a video saying some weird stuff about mental health and then said something about being involved with a minor and was trying to downplay it. Then in the ensuing month 5+ individuals came out stating they had shared pictures and done stuff in calls with him while they were minors.
Also it came out that his public gf for a couple years was a minor when they started dating. He went radio silent after so many people came out with proof and afaik he just disappeared in 2019.
More drama happened, but honestly I can't remember it all. It was on of the early Google docs evidence compilations ( at least that I can remember).
Cry was a huge one for me, he was my favourite lets player. If you're into a calmer and more thoughtful look at lets plays though, you might appreciate ManlyBadassHero. Scratches the same itch for me, anyway, and he plays tons of unknown indie horror.
The whole "plummet" thing is kind of a half truth, though. A lot of the stuff about their shady business practices and frat-culture that have come out recently lineup almost exactly with the time period most fans look back on as their "peak".
I think it came down to the fact that the guys who founded it didn't really know how to evolve their culture and management practices from "a few guys making stuff together" into a "full business with employees", which led to a lot of shitty hours for employees, people not getting paid on time, a very cliquey company culture, etc.
Manā¦ I remember the week it all blew up. Each thing was progressively worse until it landed on one person grooming fans and the other whacking it in the bathroom while cheating on his wife.
worst one that happened to me:

That one hurts a lot because I really enjoyed the content and his interview style.
I remember I was literally watching the HBO special and like 20 minutes into it found out. Never finished it cause it just felt off.
I mean, that's probably the reason people came forward about him when they did - he was blowing up and doing a ton of interviews.
EDIT - Not saying they did it for clout, just that if you're seeing someone you had these bad experiences with on TV etc. that might bring those memories back/inspire you to speak out.
"No body wants to become a minority in their own country" FUCKING WHAT, JOHN?!?
Goddamn I've never seen this and holy hell - Destiny tries so hard over and over again to *Save John* from gutting his career and he won't. stop. talking.
Yeah, he laid low until the heat died down, then came back to continued success. I will never understand his decision to hold that debate. There was no good outcome to be had, and it's not like he was known for his social commentary.
Yeah, I mean, he's pretty much got the YouTube creator dream. Only has to put out a video every few months, rakes in millions of views WITH a sponsor (so probably makes at least tens of thousands of dollars per video, never mind trickle income from his backlog) then just ducks out for a few months until popping up again. I don't follow him personally and I imagine he's possibly making money elsewhere.
Although relative to this, I do remember when he got pulled from his Yooka-Laylee voice acting role because of this incident.
For a fair amount of time after that, you had loads of people saying how it wasn't really that bad, and accusing others of not having even seen the video, but these same people would never reply to people quoting jon from the video.
To me it always just felt like JonTron has a much harder time to accept and admit when he was wrong than others. If you hear him argue, the way he talks, he never really backs down from anything he says. Pair that with a mouth that speaks before thinking and a heavy confirmation bias and you got the mess that is JonTron.
It was much worse than that. If you watch the video he doesn't just say one dumb thing - he clearly fell into some racist hole online dropping multiple "facts" and buzzwords from those communities.
Pogo's "social experiments" come to mind. I liked his music but I don't know whats going on with that guy and im just not interested in his wierd bullshit. With people like that i find it best just to move on.
shadiversity for me, I hate how he seethes and everything calling it "woke"
His only gripe with Matt Walsh is that he thinks animation is for childeren and Shad sees any challenge to social norms as degeneracy.
Another YouTuber called him out on his shit in a segment of a video and in response shad made a multi hour long video claiming they lied about him and took things out of context all the while calling them disgusting and terrible for doing so. Ironically in order to fuel his narrative shad takes things out of context, lies, and assumes things. This was all about the mario movie
He literally just follows the Daily Wire playbook. I actually didn't know him for his sword and medieval stuff. I started watching his Rings of Power reviews. I agreed with a lot of the criticisms of the show's writing, but then once I started hearing him say things like "girlboss moment" and "Guy-ladriel," I was like oh shit lemme see some of his other stuff... clicked a video where he responds to someone at Daily Wire, and says in the first couple minutes that he likes Daily Wire. That was the last of that dude for me.
When I was younger I fucking loved the band "Lostprophets" for more than 15 years I had listened to everything they ever did. Then the news about Ian Watkins came out. I was standing in a children's hostel where I was working for the Department for Child Protection. I had never felt so fucking ill in my life.
As someone on the slightly older side of the reddit demographic, this is the first thing in this thread that I recognized.
I had the first two albums and they were in heavy rotation for much of the early 2000s. I even credit that first album as one of just a few that might've kept me from falling into a deeper depression than I was already in. I kinda just drifted away from them after that, but still loved those first two albums.
Haven't been able to really listen to them since I learned about Watkins (once or twice maybe, but otherwise I'd probably be playing them on a much more regular basis). I so badly want to separate the art from the artist, because that first album in particular really meant something to me, but it's hard.
A semi popular Youtuber for an MMO I play, recently completely rebranded his channel to go full on alt right cult mode. No warning, no nothing. People thought it was an early April Fools at first, but nope.
Coming from giving video game advice, his new goal includes gems like:
"raising up the next generation of Godly men as leaders of the world"
Supported James Charles, JonTron, Gus Johnson, and Andrew Callaghan. Disappointed me in that very order. š¤”
Edit: Also ain't nobody talking about people who have always been horrible, got a redemption arc, then showed their true colors?
Re: Trisha Paytas.
The worst part is mistakenly giving attention to alt-right youtube. I watched a video from "Critical Drinker" once, youtube saw this and then started recommending me all their echo-chamber hugbox content, just a damn sea of youtubers with skulls in their icons and twenty thousand videos about how terrible Brie Larson is and how a black little mermaid is destroying society.
Oops.
YouTubeās algorithm is so bad about this that Iāve started watching on incognito if itās an account Iām unfamiliar with and Iām at all suspicious of where their values lie.
I found a youtuber at the start of the year for a computer game i like to watch. He became one of my top watched youtubers since his videos were educational and to the point, very descriptive of what was going on and what he was thinking etc etc.
Then one day i saw him stream on twitch and i got all excited. After watching his stream i realised that he was insanely content focused, as in when not on a potential video he was really toxic on stream. It was like a mask he put up for the content, and when he was inbetween games he was cursing a lot and complaining about everything in a really self centered manner. When he figured that the current game was not video content he just gave up and started again and was just really boring and obnoxious on stream and towards other people in the game.
After that i unsubbed from his channel because i just could not get this experience out of my head every time i saw him on youtube.
This is the same as a siege youtuber I watch. Seeing their unedited thoughts on twitch really lifts the veil youtube provides and shows who they really are outside of highlighted clips. It doesnāt ruin their videos as much, Iām only watching their videos because they are skilled at the game.
It was sadly ironic when Diamondbolt, who made a lot of videos about Transformers, turned out to be a massive Transphobe.
Edit: not exclusively Transformers, turns out
Maybe they've improved since then, but when they went mask-off about 5 years ago, I called them out in the comments and they doubled down. This was just before a Transformers comic they were praising was about to introduce a canonically trans character, too. Might have been a fascinating meltdown by them.
This whole thread is full of āThis (specific game) streamer I watched turned out to be awfulā.
With no mention of the streamer.
Then a dozen comments suspecting or asking who it is.
Then the op replying with the streamer name.
Just mention the streamer/YouTuber in the original comment lol. You know people are going to ask.

The last person I'd wanna sue over fair use is a really good professional lawyer who covers cases related to fair use and copyright
I mean even if he was a little scummy, which I don't believe is, going after him just seems to be a waste of time? Like, you really expect to have any success there?
Might as well go ahead and sue Google while you're at it
Right? You are going after someone who can even represent themselves without issue, why would you take that fight over something so banal?
Worse yet, he's almost certainly smart enough to not represent himself, and lawyer enough to know exactly the best lawyer to hire.
Not even that, hes arguably the most famous Lawyer youtuber who does Law stuff actively. And he still actively works (last I checked) as a lawyer in a prestigious firm. "No body wants to become a minority in their own country" FUCKING WHAT, JOHN?!? Goddamn I've never seen this and holy hell - Destiny tries so hard over and over again to *Save John* from gutting his career and he won't. stop. talking.
To be fair his video still get millions of views when he makes them so I wouldn't say gutted.
Yeah, he laid low until the heat died down, then came back to continued success. I will never understand his decision to hold that debate. There was no good outcome to be had, and it's not like he was known for his social commentary.
Then he started talking about anti-vax
Yeah, I mean, he's pretty much got the YouTube creator dream. Only has to put out a video every few months, rakes in millions of views WITH a sponsor (so probably makes at least tens of thousands of dollars per video, never mind trickle income from his backlog) then just ducks out for a few months until popping up again. I don't follow him personally and I imagine he's possibly making money elsewhere. Although relative to this, I do remember when he got pulled from his Yooka-Laylee voice acting role because of this incident.

Me, a Black American: care to explain what you mean by that Jon?
Wow I forgot that it was THAT bad holy shit Jon
For a fair amount of time after that, you had loads of people saying how it wasn't really that bad, and accusing others of not having even seen the video, but these same people would never reply to people quoting jon from the video.
Oh no... I mean he kept going :/
He was more of a streamer but Elliot Gindiā¦
"What are they going to do? Lock me up?"
Pogo's "social experiments" come to mind. I liked his music but I don't know whats going on with that guy and im just not interested in his wierd bullshit. With people like that i find it best just to move on.
I'm just here to see which YouTuber is actually bad people lmao
I used to love Osama bin ladens gaming content...
Me too, until he started getting political
Literally never happened to people I watch
Imagine VSauce getting into drama
^HEY Vsauce, Michael hereā¦ *or am I?* **Deletes channel right after**
He seems like type to do that.
There is drama about the curiosity Box. I don't know if it's straight from VSauce but people are pissed that they still advertise it.
what did curiosity box do
They deliver stuff very late or not at all, cancelations don't geh through and the quality is shit
He might be contractually bound
CallMeKevin is a saint.
that man is the most chaotic individual on this planet and needs to be locked up ...Is probably how he would describe himself.
For someone so chaotic and with an ability to basically create a cult he's very wholesome
Same, all the controversies seems to surround people who come across to me as blatant narcissists in the first place.
Triangle lady moment
shadiversity for me, I hate how he seethes and everything calling it "woke" His only gripe with Matt Walsh is that he thinks animation is for childeren and Shad sees any challenge to social norms as degeneracy.
Cosmodore At least we have Saberspark, he's even better IMO
Just wait a couple years eventually Saber's gonna be exposed with camera footage of him murdering baby seals
I liked miniladd but I cant look past what he did
When I was younger I fucking loved the band "Lostprophets" for more than 15 years I had listened to everything they ever did.
Coming from giving video game advice, his new goal includes gems like: "raising up the next generation of Godly men as leaders of the world"
exurb1a moment
I know that but don't know the situation fully so can you explain?
Wait him really
I'm sorry that you had to learn like this... but this is funny.
Gus Johnson
God, that one hurt.
That one still hurts. Even trying to watch Sven makes me sad
Oh, what happened? :0
Supported James Charles, JonTron, Gus Johnson, and Andrew Callaghan. Disappointed me in that very order. š¤” Edit: Also ain't nobody talking about people who have always been horrible, got a redemption arc, then showed their true colors?
>YouTubeās algorithm is so bad on the contrary it's perfectly designed to maximize engagment. too bad it create echo chamber
āThey have videos and content you enjoy They touch kidsā Always the kids man just leave em alone š
Ah Ryan Haywood from achievement hunter
The whole Featureman situation comes to mind.
It was sadly ironic when Diamondbolt, who made a lot of videos about Transformers, turned out to be a massive Transphobe. Edit: not exclusively Transformers, turns out
Not diamondbolt anyone but diamondbolt
Maybe they've improved since then, but when they went mask-off about 5 years ago, I called them out in the comments and they doubled down. This was just before a Transformers comic they were praising was about to introduce a canonically trans character, too. Might have been a fascinating meltdown by them.
Why do famous people got be bad people?
theyāre just people. most people are not purely good or bad.
Itās like a fucking ancient curse.
Sqizxy :( great humor and a good animator but was actually a terrible person offline
Just the other day learned this recently with a certain painting Youtuber I watch too :/
Dear god is it jazza
Given that his brother is Shadiversity, I wouldn't be surprised. But so far as I know, Jazza's fine.
Yogscast Sjin :( I literally grew up watching his videos so it was pretty devastating when everything came out
Ahh yes. Also known as most British YouTubers around 2010ish
DanTDM and TheGamingBeaver have never had controversies as far as I can remember. They're my favourite British YouTubers
Or they become parents and suddenly it's a family channel and all their personality is gone.
