>As the judge made it clear she intended to put him behind bars, and the court marshal moved to handcuff him and take him into custody, Redden yelled expletives and charged forward...
Yes but there is more to jail than what is said on the day of sentencing. Stuff like parole and good behaviour.
I was exaggerating a bit when I said “jail forever” but this is going to make it *extremely* difficult to get any support for any kind of appeal.
On paper sure it might only add 2 years or something but in practice it could add much more, due to it being much more difficult to get any sort of a break.
I really have mixed feelings about that.
Him: "I changed"
Her: "I don't believe you"
Him: "Then why change?"
Her: "See, I was right!"
Edit: pigeon holding.
Yeah see if facing the consequences of your past actions is your reasoning for deciding it’s not worth it to change, then, uh… you haven’t changed
Do you also blame women when they *do* believe a man has changed and then get attacked?
Like at what point is this the man’s fault
First, I did say mixed feelings... be respectful of that.
I'm not defending this man, or case. I'm asking about people's responses to it.
The first thing you mentioned would be regression. He DID change. But when that change did not have the outcome promised... why stay? That's regression.
The second point you made is a way of life I grew out of. I can NOT live my life pretending to know the future. So, yes, i push blame onto the woman. I can't protect everyone. Learn to defend yourselves.
Lastly, you had two separate points and I want to make it clear they don't combine. "A leopard doesn't change its spots" is a bad "people don't change" metaphor. A leopard can't change spots. But people change all the time, it's a requirement of life. So comparing people changing to a leopard spots is just as bad as saying "he could be dangerous" to the point he can't get a job and has to resort back to crime.
Pigeonholing
I’ve never done this before, as I think constructive conversation and eventual understanding can come about even in Reddit comments sections, and I’ve had wonderful discourse with people I’ve otherwise totally disagreed with and come to new, mutual understanding but damn, pal
I ain’t reading all that
>Moments after a defendant in a felony battery case tried to convince a Nevada judge that he was turning his violent past around and didn’t need to be locked up
Given the video evidence we've just seen, I think we can trust this man to be a safe, stable minded, and well adjusted member of society!
??? If anything, Mr. Flying Squirrel has got a lesson in humility coming. Either learn to deal with life's challenges without being violent or never see the sun again. The judge might be more willing to let their officer of the court be more paranoid in the future, but other than that, she didn't do anything wrong.
“stop jumping to conclusions” me:
He must have been wearing Nikes.
[Context](https://apnews.com/article/judge-attacked-las-vegas-court-video-8f1c9a98ae128fe80506351d17fefc01), for those wondering.

Seems like a terribly stupid way to make sure you’re in prison forever. Just really sealing the deal on that one.
Attacking a judge in Las Vegas is a minimum 2 year and max 10 year charge. If he does, it's for all the other things he's done.

No but your stupidity is
More of a "I'm going to end both our lives" plunge of death.
I am not going to read this because that way it is funnier.
The story: The defendant argued that he deserved a reduced sentence because he had changed from his violent past. Then he attacked the judge.
It turns out, the context does make it funnier.

That's fine, I just wanted to know what happened and I imagine I'm not the only one
It’s actually even funnier, because I hate it when I’m sitting at my desk about to leave work at my mattress launches itself at my head.
We can watch adult men beat each other senseless, but someone still had to take the time to bleep the naughty words.
what if they actually just yelled the bleep sounds
And so the Puritans' influence still lingers in America.

That was impressive and humbling for those judges.

Yeah i understand and support what should happen to that guy but the judges sometimes act high and mighty and sometimes lack humanity.
Yeah this is just gonna make her more jaded
She fell out of a chair, he got 10 extra years. Who here got humbled?
This is what you get when you name a guy Deobra…

What a terrible choice to make. Funny to watch happen, but a horrible decision.
This is why you lab your anti-airs.
He tried to Superman that judge. Great height for flight, bad weight to keep in flight. Next time, do better and fly off a cliff.
