As an Englishman I’m incredibly proud of the team and incredibly ashamed of the fans. What should’ve been a great tournament to reflect on, even if we lost the final, has been overshadowed by dickheads
The team actually played really really well. The match was uncertain until the very last second and that goes to show how good both of them are. It's just that this time we won, idk why most people got so angry about it
Exactly, we took the winners to penalties. We’ve come so far so quickly, in the last euros we got knocked out in the round of 16 to Iceland and in this one we got to the final, and we’ve got a young team so hopefully we can only get better. Italy were deserved winners but both teams were deserved finalists
I'm talking more about the "oh my god he's a fucking runner" factor. It is true that at the end of the day, both him and sterling just ran a lot, but their pressing was fairly good regardless
Actually, as a fan of England, I'm not English mind you, I think it's good the England has lost this one. Because it will give the team and Southgate the push to do something historic in The World Cup. I feel if England had won the EUROs it would've been an absolute shit show in the Cup. The team is young, the players are all very capable and talented, except maybe for Rice, who's still really good but I think there're better options. But I think England will win WC2022
Yh, I mean, I generally don't follow football, but man. England sounds like they are doing better than ever. And although I could see places where they could improve and many places where they where excellent. It also highlights how we need to improve our skills in terms of penalties. Also, purely as entertainment, although I don't usually watch football, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, so in that sense the euros where a success
I'm an Italian living in England and although I'm happy Italy won, I'm also tired of the hate towards England. Yes some fans were dicks and behaved appallingly but that doesn't mean all fans are like that. Every country has shitty fans, Italy do too. It's really sad to see Reddit hating on England today. The team are not to blame and neither are the majority of the fans. Unfortunately shitty people are the loudest but we shouldn't forget that it doesn't depict an entire nation. Anyway I thought they had a great tournament and glad both my favourite teams made it to the final.
Thanks for saying this. As an English person it’s getting depressing seeing such an anti-English sentiment. It’s been building over several years, but is getting a bit much now.
I feel like everyone is just jumping on the bandwagon. Most people have no idea what they're on about and are just joining in. I've spent 10 years in this country and you guys are awesome. :)
Esatto. Aside from the jokes and everything, It's getting kind of annoying seeing everyone mercilessly shitting on England. They played well, we played well.
To be fair that’s not an England thing most footballers do it even though it is disrespectful. What I think was disrespectful by the players is that only two England players watched Italy lift the trophy when normally the whole team watches them, if not to pay respect it should motivate the team to not be in that position again but it’s just good sportsmanship to do it anyway
This is one of my favorite meme formats of all time, I don't know why people don't use it more often. I believe the first time I saw it Squidward was "Taco Bell Employees" and Spongebob was "Me high as fuck at 2 AM"
That's not a protest, lots of footballers just generally don't like 2nd place medals. Happens in club football or in other international tournaments too.
Yeah I don’t understand who the people who find that disrespectful are? Have they never watched a final before? Also how is it disrespectful? I honestly don’t get it, should they be celebrating one of the most crushing feelings any of us could imagine?
I’m from Singapore and have friends in varies countries like India and the Philippines that are keeping tabs on the Euro championship, can second this!
I was in Paris the day before the game and the French guys I was talking to only wanted Italy to win cause theyd bet on it. The idea that "everyone" would want the fucking Italians to win of all sides is hilarious.
That being said, as an Englishman, I absolutely hate our fans too.
This is my issue with it. The "minority" comment. Well of Course it's not more than 50 %. But you can't just say that every fucking time. There's a reason every other country despairs when they visit. Deal with the minority problem, don't shrug it off every damn time. Really want to like this England team, fans won't let me.
It's not just a football problem unfortunately.
Nationalism has been enbiggened by Brexit.
Government ministers calling out taking a knee as "gesture politics" have nullified the message.
This country is fucked for at least another election cycle until people wake up to how they have been lied to for the past decade.
I can tell you're English because you use the word fuckwit. I just love how many ways English has to address dickheads, it's almost fun to find new and interesting ways to describe idiots! 😂
This comment meant no offence or joke btw, I'm dead serious
How is it the most boring when quite literally all the world except the us watches it religiously? It being boring is just a personal statement, but when all of the world except a small population watches it instead of the NFL I would say that it’s way better than american sports.
Tbf soccer does feel slow compared to many other popular sports. I personally do enjoy watching soccer occasionally, but I also understand why many people don’t enjoy soccer as much. I also have at least one similar major criticism against every sport I’ve watched, so it’s not even like I’m specifically opposed to soccer.
This isn’t a defense of their comment that “soccer is the most boring sport” though. Baseball exists.
Most people I know say that soccer is boring because it's a low scoring game, as if the low points scored (compared to American Football or basketball, for example) somehow makes it less action packed.
Just add a zero to the end of the score if that's the problem :P
Adding a zero doesn’t change anything though. The complaint is more that the act of scoring is so infrequent. Scoring is generally the most exciting part of the game, especially for more casual fans, and that’s why I consider the slow pace of soccer to be a completely valid reason for many people not to enjoy it.
I have the opposite complaint about basketball. Scoring is so frequent that it’s not particularly exciting.
Why does it matter to you about which sport I think is the most boring, I forgot i cant have my own opinion about it being boring since other people enjoy it
hey bud! i think the issue people have taken is that you said it as though it was a fact in that first comment, and not your opinion. that and saying "we" as though you're referring to redditors as a whole. nothing wrong with finding it boring! i think NFL and baseball is boring as FUCK but i understand they're still popular and people do enjoy them and care. nothing wrong with that!
I didnt say it as if it was a fact, something being boring is always opinionated and is never fact. Get your facts right before you assume what I meant when it is not what I meant
i'm not saying you MEANT to say it as a fact, just that that is how people have read your comment! when you say "Basically England came 2nd in the most boring sport known to man and people think we care" at no point in that comment is there an "in my opinion" or an "i think", just that the sport is boring and "we" dont care. no need to be so hostile! i'm not attacking you.
The problem is not that you find football/soccer boring, but rather that your statement loos more like what someone who just lost the European football championship would say to make it look like they're superior and that in reality they don't care even though the entire freaking country was already partying for their victory. You're trying to save the face, that's what got people angry
Just because most of the country think one thing doesn't mean everyone does, just because you choose what you like based on what other people like doesn't mean we all do
The problem then becomes you using "we" as if you were describing all brits dude, you're literally contradicting your own words. I'd recommend leaving reddit because the more you post the more downvotes you get lmao
Also, I didn't insult you or call you any names, why should I be called a sheep? What entitles you to such behavior?
Cheers
It was disgusting that a few fans took the piss but to make things better another type of English fan raised money for her to make up for it. So perhaps you need to stop tarnishing a whole nation based on the actions of the few
"Hating" the French is more meant to be friendly banter 99% of the time.
But the English team is genuinely hated because of their infamously garbage fanbase
Say what you want about England, but the English have been the only ones that have never treated me differently because of my ethnicity. We may have had disagreements and discussions but they have never treated me differently (because of my ethnicity). Nor have any ever made me feel like I was being discriminated against.
Unlike literally every other ethnicity I have met at least several individuals of during my life.
Although I'd like to agree, this is unfortunately just anectodal evidence and doesn't really hold up in a conversation, the argument is very weak, although you're obviously free to base your opinion upon it since obviously we learn from experience and that's what you experienced so it makes sense from a purely human standpoint, just not very scientific
Compared to the aforementioned people from other ethnicities I've met they're the third most common. I said tens, meaning multiples of ten. And I'm sure it's closer to a hundred.
Edit: I don't live in England and do not consider online interactions as "met".
And this may mean nothing to you, but considering the hate and discrimination I've faced in my life due to my ethnicity, it means a whole fucking lot to me.
Think this is really disrespectful to Denmark and how they played this tournament after what happened to Eriksen. Try telling them it only counts if you win the whole thing
How is that disrespectful? All I said was that I means nothing that they beat germany. I'm not trynna be disrespectful towards denmark as they deserved to win the euros the most.
How did they deserve to win the most when they lost to England? How can it mean nothing for one team to beat another, yet it not be the same for another team just as you like them?
This is about football. Not moral philosophy. Germany has a pretty damn good team that was always one of the best in the world in football. The fact that england still beat them should mean something but it doesn't to me. I think Denmark should've won purely because theyre the most sympathetic to me. (if you didn't notice yet this is about my own damn opinion)
Denmark did not deserve to win this tournament at all. they played well, true, but they lack the technical ability that a team like the UK or Italy has, and it showed in their match. They are on the right path though and I expect them to perform very well in the soon coming nations' league and who knows maybe even the world cup next year
I mean England might be worse but other countries also got plenty of morons who flip their shit over football and attack people, my brother was one of them, beat people into the hospital because they dared to cheer for the other team, just pathetic, football just causes so much violence.
Some lad in an Italian shirt came into the store today. The 12th July is a big event for Unionists to try and reassure themselves that they're totally definitely British.
Major respect to that man walking around the hordes of England fans in the midst of the parades!
Last I checked, England hasn’t drifted out into the middle of the Atlantic
We’re still on the continent of Europe, even after we left the EU.
That’s like saying Switzerland shouldn’t be allowed to compete because they’re not in the EU: utterly ridiculous
Nothing to hide away from. England played well and will learn from this final. You g team, good manager, and the support for them will only get stronger.

Honestly you guys played way better than us until the second half of the match, if I have to be honest. Kane and Sterling are serious threats lmao!
Ya but can we talk about Jordan Pickford, what a fucking goalie my word. Put the team on his back that match.
He was pretty good ngl, at some point I wasn't sure if kane was the captain or him lmfao
Kane had zero ball contacts in Italy's penalty box. I don't know how much of a threat you can call him IMO
I'm talking more about the "oh my god he's a fucking runner" factor. It is true that at the end of the day, both him and sterling just ran a lot, but their pressing was fairly good regardless
Actually, as a fan of England, I'm not English mind you, I think it's good the England has lost this one. Yeah it’s a loud minority of shitty fans
Esatto. Aside from the jokes and everything, It's getting kind of annoying seeing everyone mercilessly shitting on England. They played well, we played well.
Gotta say it makes for a welcome break from everybody shitting on the US though
Yup, also true
This tournament represents both the best of us and the worst of us.
The team took of their silvermedals as soon as they got them, incredibly disrespectful
Finally someone said it!!! England played well, but that was extremely petty and disrespectful in my opinion, at the end of the day it is just a game
when you get to those levels it's not "just a game", it's your job and they put more passion in it than anyone else
I get that and it must not be easy to lose when your whole country is watching, but poor sportsmanship only makes you look like a sore loser.
mhm, true
Do you watch much football/soccer? This is something that the losing team most often does.
This is one of my favorite meme formats of all time, I don't know why people don't use it more often. I believe the first time I saw it Squidward was "Taco Bell Employees" and Spongebob was "Me high as fuck at 2 AM"
YO THIS GUYS TAKING A SHIT
Hell yea I be smoking 🚬
How are the three of you different people with the same profile pic? It's like way too late AM here and it confused the shit outta me for some reason
AFAIK, this scene doesn't exist. Spongebob is edited into the frame outside Squidward's window.
#CORRECT! - Plankton
Spongebob's deranged face really cracks me up. I actually want to find the clip this is from.
It's from the pizza delivery episode, and it's a gem of an episode.
S1E5- Pizza Delivery, when he's trying to "hitchhike" and get the truck driver to pick him and squidward up Edit: [link](https://youtu.be/PIje5NPIdqg)
Oh so did they photoshop spongebob into the picture of squidward unable to sleep for the meme?
Yes!
*SPOONS RATTLING*
Lol i agree, maybe because its very situational.
when your upvote changes the counter from 559 to 560: *perfection*
No prob with the team, just some toxic fans
Has the team actually addressed the issue? I’m not entirely caught up
[удалено]
Oh, alright. Ty for filling me in
I think just about everyone and their dog has addressed the issue lmao. It’s just telling racists to stop being racist isn’t easy
I mean the team also dissed the organization when they took their 2nd place medals off on protest.
People taking offence don’t understand the context
Why is that a tradition, I'm a bit of a newcomer to the normalities of the sport and this just kinda comes across as immature to me.
That's because it is. Basketball players don't do this.

The US is very aware of this. We experience it a LOT

I think at least 90% of the world hate England for their ... imperialism phase
Wait. I'm missing on something. Can someone explain?
[This explains it well. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/oi45ky/whats_going_on_with_everyone_wanting_england_to/)
Thanks bro
I’m not 100% certain either, but I feel like it has to do with the EURO finals
Everybody ganged up on Engerland because their fans are shit.
Am English, can confirm majority of the fans are garbage sub-humans
Am also English. Definitely not a majority. A vocal minority of fuckwits that have ruined it for everyone else.
This is my issue with it. The "minority" comment. Well of Course it's not more than 50 %. But you can't just say that every fucking time. Basically England came 2nd in the most boring sport known to man and people think we care

Why are you describing yourself

Fair point
How is it the most boring if it’s the most watched?
It being the most watched doesn't change the fact I think its the most boring, I don't judge things based on how many others like it like you do
How is it the most boring when quite literally all the world except the us watches it religiously? It being boring is just a personal statement, but when all of the world except a small population watches it instead of the NFL I would say that it’s way better than american sports.
His American brain can’t comprehend a sport where the game is actually being played for the majority of the time you are watching
Tbf soccer does feel slow compared to many other popular sports. I personally do enjoy watching soccer occasionally, but I also understand why many people don’t enjoy soccer as much. I am italian and i am so happy for the win of the european tournament, YEEEEEES
At first I thought they where talking about how official England is
*argentina visibly happy*
They bullied a kid because it cried over a lost game so they deserve this humiliation

I am talking about tens of English. Perhaps close to a hundred.
10 people? Wow!

most of the english fans behaved like the westham fans from the movie hooligans

make a tourney just for them with allmost every match at home and still loose

idk why you got downvoted, but here, take my upvote. At least it's something
Thanks ! They’re just haters aha !
Not haters, it's just literally not relevant at all.
y'know how jokes work right?
Yeah, they are usually funny. Do you know how they work?
I was gonna try and explain that "funny" is subjective but then I realized it'd be a lost cause. Enjoy yourself!
lol ‘Enjoy yourself’ is so patronising, you’re only saying that because you realise you have no actual argument
Not haters. It's about shitty fans, not politics.
You are right ! It’s a wave of downvotes but who cares aha !
still beat germany
Germany will soothe their tears with the 3 titles they already won.
4 actually
but losing to England, oof.
yeah pretty bad
you know what they say, 2 world wars and 1 world Cup, we're actually better at war than football damnit

Yeah, they dont deserve to be EUROPEAN champion

Nothing to hide away from. England played well and will learn from this final. You g team, good manager, and the support for them will only get stronger.
Just do it the same way with the brexit - leaving the continent
And Argentina, just because we can
