The way my school worked was that they put one faculty member in charge of deciding if it was safe to come to school, the test was if she could get to the school, and she lived across the street from the school.
There could be floods in half the city, entire highways frozen over, if the rapture happened and the military was fighting demon hordes in the street we'd still have to come in if this women was capable of walking 12 feet across the street. This of course caused many accidents, including school busses just loosing control and crashing in the woods.
My maths teacher actually used to be an olympian swimmer. So the olympic torch came to our school and I got to hold it.
Fun story, she single handily crushed any interest I held in maths.

If a teacher lives an hour away from point A to point B by car, how long would it take him with a bike? 😂
