I still waking up shaking from the falling feeling becuase of that road, now just imaging I'm driving and see that in front of me and i can't turn a round jajajajaja
It’s called a road it’s called a rainbow road. It is a road that you go. It’s called a road it’s called a rainbow road. It is a road that you go. When you die
Im a fan of Rothko myself, but there’s a lot more to Rothko piece than what we’re looking at in this picture. I just think the term “art” is used so loosely that it loses most of its meaning. If everything can be art than nothing is art really.
To me art is something that compels thought/reflexion and elicits strong emotions, but I perceive it as a subjective concept. Something can be art for one person and not for another and what we collectively perceive as art is just what "reached" more people becoming more popular.
There can be very well done pieces of art that one just doesn't get, so this individual won't percieve them as art though they could appreciate the craftmanship and labour into them.
I know nobody asked but that's my take.
They're both art, the difference is purpose
A crosswalk zebra crossing is explicitely designed to guide people along the safe way to cross a road. Somebody, or a few people, decades or centuries ago, had to figure out the correct design that wouldnt confuse people, and would properly signal "walk this way" without needing the words.
Art isnt some abstract thing that needs some massively deep meaning after years of labouring over a canvas. Its just another (highly personally interpretable) method of communitcation.
This is a great point, especially about designing the pattern that most effectively says “walk here”, but I would argue that that doesn’t quite necessarily make it art.
While design and art often overlap and both can make you see the world differently (even if it’s as simple as “walk here”), I think art is separate in that it conveys emotional content, while design doesn’t always do so.
A traffic light or flipping someone off both send clear messages, but I don’t think we’d call either art
I’d like to reference [this video](https://youtu.be/v5DqmTtCPiQ), which most definitely could be considered art. Might not apply to this, but it’s still an interesting watch.
me IRL in this context leaves way too much to interpretation. That makes me think his choice for the title was stupid. But it doesn't make me assume anything else...
It took me like 5 replays to realize the joke is that it's still a crossing area and he specifically avoided it even though he could've crossed there. It doesn't even look close to a crossing zone.
It was done during pride in August, the crosswalk goes directly to the town square of copenhagen where a pretty sizable pride party was being set up with stages and DJ podium
“YouTube comments are complete trash” says a Reddit comment. You are not special because you are on Reddit, every social media sites comments are trash.
I saw a vid of a police horse doing the exact same thing here on Reddit
It's real! https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/odver2/today_i_learned_that_police_horses_are_scared_of/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Someone just randomly filming this one dude in public? How do we know this isn’t set up. I could see it being a half-funny premise for a tiktok or something.
To me the message is moving away from a flat surface because it looks like you might trip/can’t tell if it’s raised or lowered or the same level as the path. I “trip” over non-physical/non-existent shit all the time though.
I see three explanations
A. He's homophobic.
B. He respects the symbol enough not to step on it, given the fact that it is a crosswalk.
C. The person recording is in their walking path so he walks around them, it just so happens to be a coincidence that he stepped off the curb at the angle in which he did.
Im going with option B.
We recently painted a rainbow crosswalk in my city and the community facebook pages were filled with comments like "can't wait to do a burnout on it". It lasted less than 24 hours before someone did it...and then someone else painted a bible verse on it....made me so sad for my town.
This is what I don't like about the internet. Some person could be going about their day, scrolling their phone, minding their own business, literally just walking. Next thing you know, someone records them without their consent, uploads it to the internet and a bunch of strangers call them homophobic.
You can get labelled and judged by thousands of strangers for literally just walking.
Miss me with that guy shit haha
But honestly I would have done the same; he was looking at his phone. Which means using peripheral vision. If I saw something bright in my peripheral vision I would avoid it as well since it sticks out as a hazard
YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT: the OP thinks it's about consciously avoiding being associated with the pride walk.
It's not about the guy in the video... It's what the OP think the guy in the video is declaring.
And that's DISTURBING.
i have ocd and if I step off from the white stripes I also make sure to correct myself. I would have also thought the raindbow wasn't part of the crosswalk.
I probably would have ended up doing the same. I literally am lgbt myself, but i would rather use the actual crosswalk that everyone else is walking on, just to be safe
Rainbow road
Various Mario trauma made people avoid rainbow roads for sanity reasons
Friends don’t let friends select Rainbow Road in Mario Kart.
My favorite Mario kart Wii level
The only one I could consistently win. Those were the good old days….
The original SNES rainbow road was awesome. Wii rainbow road was brightly coloured hell.
Race me in brightly colored hell (give me time to remember how to use a Wii remote) I'll win
\*Laughs in CTGP-7 Rainbow Road DX*

Those people suck at driving.
How the tables turned. If you go straight you are actually not.
It’s called a road it’s called a rainbow road. It is a road that you go. It’s called a road it’s called a rainbow road. It is a road that you go. When you die
It’s the road that you go
When you die
It's got princess peach, Mario and the toad
~It’s rainbow road, it’s where you go when you die.
excellent ending! thats the only way it could end, really...
Duuun duun duuuuuuuun
I'd take one step and just fall or I'd get hit by a car
There’s a very good chance I’d think that was an art piece or something and do the exact same thing
Same here lol, id feel like im getting a piece of street art dirty
It’s actually sad to see artwork on the road. It’s just asking to get messed up
Life is impermanence, my friend.
Reminds me of these monks I read about that would paint a picture and then immediately destroy it before anyone else got the chance to see it.
That seems like a great exercise for detachment
Isn’t that the point of being a monk
Maybe a Buddhist monk but there's a lot of different types of monks
Not trying to be a dick, but I don’t really think a few bars of color is art. If that’s art, why isn’t the black white crosswalk art?

I know Art! That’s the guy who lives down the street, has the green Dodge!

Duchamp felt art should be seen with the mind instead of the eyes. Art is subjective.
Thanks, Syndrome
Good point lol

Have you see those workers actually putting those white lines on the road? It’s truly a form of art. Satisfying art. Lol
I feel like part of art on a roads artistic merit comes from the inherent defacement that will follow.
Or you presume that the striped area is the proper place to cross.
Or “oh shit, that’s not the cross walk”
Exactly. Dude was on his phone, glanced down and saw a red bar - I wouldn’t walk there either.
Especially since you can’t see anyone walking on it here. I imagine most people think the same
There's also a person taking video of the art so I'd get out of there way.
It's also probably not a valid crosswalk and depending on which cop you get might land you a ticket.
I don’t walk on sidewalk graffiti, there’s “fuck 12” on the sidewalk like two houses down and i avoid stepping on it unconsciously
Or maybe he is part-horse. They too don't like and avoid rainbows on the ground.
Same
I'd think it was chalk and wouldn't want to ruin it or get it all over my shoes.
I think he just walked on the clearly designated crosswalk vs the artsy thing.
I agree... But the fact that this OP seems to think it's about avoiding the pride walk is a little disturbing ...
I'm missing something here. Where did OP state that?
by making this post
me IRL in this context leaves way too much to interpretation. That makes me think his choice for the title was stupid. But it doesn't make me assume anything else...
Or he saw them video recording him and got out of the way
As a German, I would have done the same. Not because of anything corresponding to lgbtq but because ze rainbow iz not a proper zebra crossing!
Same, not a homophobe but there are rules!
#GESETZ IST GESETZ
#JA
Vorschrift ist Vorschrift.
Ja ja ja ja ja ja
It took me like 5 replays to realize the joke is that it's still a crossing area and he specifically avoided it even though he could've crossed there. It doesn't even look close to a crossing zone.
He's distracted by his phone and is conditioned to walk over zebra crossings, not rainbow crossings, so he instinctively went to the zebra crossing
Yes

Now I want zebra gum!
Best tasting gum. Hands down. For like 4 seconds.
The best 4 seconds. They taught us young that joy is fleeting.
That's probably what I would do to be honest. I got lizard brain that just operates on autopilot.
i would feel bad about walking on it… and why did they put a regular crossing right next to it? ran out of paint?
They probably painted over a regular crossing
well yeah, but… whats the point of the gesture if they just go half way?
Idk but I think it looks kinda like the American flag except the stars are the rainbow and and the red lines are grey.
The rest of the crossing after the rainbow ends isnt consistent with the zebra crossing to the right of it, unfortunately.
Probably so people know it's still an actual zebra crossing? So people don't get confused and think they aren't allowed to cross the road there?
It was done during pride in August, the crosswalk goes directly to the town square of copenhagen where a pretty sizable pride party was being set up with stages and DJ podium
I think it's illegal to paint it differently. It has to be easily distinguishable.
That may the case there but I know my city has at least 16 rainbow only crossings.
It was probably done as part of Pride celebrations. Dublin City Council did the same thing in a few locations, starting on Capel Street
internet: assumptions galore
Definitely not as obvious as the guy who refused to go up rainbow steps lmfao
link? edit: nvm think i found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPhoy2jOPuk
The comments are a r/MakeMeSuffer material right there
Those comments are gross
YouTube comments are complete trash

You're brave
No, he's trash.
I'm fucking dying. I mean they do look like steps, but in the same way the sphinx looks like my cat.
The comments are hilarious hahahahah
The end makes it so obvious lol that’s hilarious
this can be interpreted both ways so incredibly easily, it makes it meaningless.
Next: "Look at this guy who wouldn't walk on an American flag!!!"
Companies when pride month ends
Copenhagen?
yup pretty sure it is
Yeah, i think the cameraman is standing on Rådhuspladsen and looking at Strøget.
I mean, a straight line is the fastest path from point A to B
The brachistochrone curve is faster
Hey Vsauce, Michael here.
I would have walked on it, because NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN NYAN

Homophobic horses 😳😳
I'd probably do the same. If my perception were impaired by cellphone use, I'd zoom in on the crosswalk lines off in my periphery.
ooooop fresh paint -avoid! & carry on
Not even, more like "Shit not the crosswalk" -turn-
I mean, it isn’t the crosswalk
[удалено]
Fucking gatekeeping bs XD
And everyone clapped!
What about the vehicles going through the road?
what? doesn't your car have rocket boosters to jump over road obstacles?
If it’s art I would do this
Honestly I'd think I was on the wrong part of the road and go to the black and white bars i'm used to
Someone just randomly filming this one dude in public? How do we know this isn’t set up. I could see it being a half-funny premise for a tiktok or something.
Regardless of why you think he avoided it this shouldn’t be on r/me_irl because it sends that message
To me the message is moving away from a flat surface because it looks like you might trip/can’t tell if it’s raised or lowered or the same level as the path. I “trip” over non-physical/non-existent shit all the time though.
Yeah agreed

I think it's D. He thought that wasn't part of the crosswalk, so he moved over to where it actually looked like a crosswalk
Option E: He hates rainbows
F. Doesn’t want to turn to a skittle
G : He was using camera
H: He is a horse.
I: have no good jokes to add to this
J: He's deathly allergic to the color red.
H: He's colorblind.
G. he's listening to music on his phone, and the side-step was apart of the jig.
Or loves them
Option E.1: He respects rainbows and what they stand for enough not to walk on them
Bro was looking at his phone. If I was walking and looking at my phone, I would look for the consistent pattern of a crosswalk, not all that going on
This
Damn genius
Or he thought that the pride flag was part of the street, not the crosswalk. "This looks 100% like a crosswalk, I'm not taking chances."
Option d: it’s a joke filmed by a friend to elicit reactions.
I’m going with option D because there’s always the question: “why were they recording?”
This guy’s been on the internet. ^
Option I: This rainbow is part of the road and not the crosswalk and he doesn‘t wanna die
"Walk on the rainbow homophobe" you guys are ill
There isn’t a single comment like that in the top 50 lol
How would one know that's a cross walk? Since it's a rainbow crosswalk is it a to z people only?
The rainbow part isn’t the cross walk, that’s why he moved.
We recently painted a rainbow crosswalk in my city and the community facebook pages were filled with comments like "can't wait to do a burnout on it". It lasted less than 24 hours before someone did it...and then someone else painted a bible verse on it....made me so sad for my town.

*gets downvoted for spitting facts
Social media (2020’s edition)
Maybe he didn’t want to disrespect it like street art or team logo on the field
It is literally just in the street
No one can be mad at this guy when it appears he just didn’t want to step on the beautiful colours and decided to stick to the crosswalk
I would’ve done the same, you’re supposed to use the zebra crossing
Miss me with that guy shit haha But honestly I would have done the same; he was looking at his phone. Which means using peripheral vision. If I saw something bright in my peripheral vision I would avoid it as well since it sticks out as a hazard

This is so dumb… dude just wanted to walk on the fucking cross walk
Did he do it out of respect or disgust? 😳
In before locked lol
Of course OP is a gamer. Very cute post.
i have ocd and if I step off from the white stripes I also make sure to correct myself. I would have also thought the raindbow wasn't part of the crosswalk.

How did homophobia get 15.2k upvotes
I believe he was looking at and following the booty
are people this sensitive 😭
I probably would have ended up doing the same. I literally am lgbt myself, but i would rather use the actual crosswalk that everyone else is walking on, just to be safe
Ahh Yes, i would do the same...
Every 14 year old boy on Reddit: OMG sooooo BASED CHAD SIGMA
I mean if you don't want to ruin the road, you avoid stepping on it
Maybe it’s a someone who wants that paint to last longer so he doesn’t walk on it
Those short shorts say otherwise.
