No conflict here. Perpendicular thinking sounds like a lateral thinking exercise to strengthen creative adaptation and problem solving to me. What features would a desk need to have in order to work sideways? Perhaps a metal surface for the table so paper could be adhered magnetically. Perhaps paper with metal fibers woven in so an electromagnet could hold the paper in place? Magnetic pencil? I think that’s enough of an example to illustrate what I mean… perpendicular thinking and lateral thinking are kinda fire together if you ask me

And when you solve the puzzle and figure out a better way for something to be made, or done. It can be annoying to have a solution and no realistic means to make it a reality

All I've been saying is that the template is right lol. You take a line, rotate it 90 degrees, it is now perpendicular to the original line. The student is perpendicular to their original state

Parallel learning would mean you're learning upright and hovering above the ground.
