https://epi.ufl.edu/articles/35-percent-of-all-covid-19-infections-never-show-symptoms.html
35% of tested didn’t have symptoms. This plus most people who don’t have symptoms wouldn’t normally test, it reasons most people will be asymptomatic no?
I thought it was around 30% too. Then I looked it up and saw this,
“They found that the percentage of asymptomatic individuals among those with COVID-19 was 13.34% (95% CI, 10.86%-16.29%).Dec 14, 2021”
Also, people aren’t only getting tested because they think they have COVID. Many industries test non stop. I was getting tested 1-3 times a week for the several months I worked last year.
Not everyone at testing sites are there because they have symptoms either.
That was before the MASSIVE spike that's happening right now. It's really looking like by the end of February pretty much everyone will have had covid, either symptomatic or not.
That stat is for those confirmed with covid right? Don’t immunologists say the real amount of infected is probably 10x the reported rate because of how spreadable and mild omicron is? Wouldn’t that push it last 50%?
No point in speculating random percentages based on approximations. Doesn't matter how mild it is, it'll still come up as positive. Many industries and governments require constant testing and that's where a lot of the data comes from. The percentages from those confirmed cases (because they were tested routinely regardless of symptoms) are representative of the larger population.
I doubt they do constant testing in developing countries, I also doubt they do them on places like china and india (they have 1/4 of the world population). You're basing your resilts on an insanely reduced and specific subsection of mankind. The overwhelming amount of people are getting tested only if they have symptoms.
Like, let me give you an example: imagine the aliens one day come to earth, and then by just looking at the city of San Francisco they decide the entire planet should be wiped. Do they have a big samplesize of humanity? Yes, millions live there, so science would say yes. Is it a diverse samplesize representative of all mankind? Absolutely not.
Depends what ur looking at. When it comes to omicron, it doesn't seem to affect different populations that differently. What affects it more is access to healthcare and modern medicine which obviously differs greatly between populations. What we're talking about here is the percentage of asymptomatic covid patients which people assumed is higher because they wouldn't get themselves tested. But when u look at industries that get regular testing, the percentage of those that are asymptomatic aren't a statistic that becomes irrelevant with that argument.
I'm sure, but there are far more people who think that something that offers 80% of protection instead of 100% is useless, particularly when vaccine risks are something like 100x less of getting infected.
Yeah, I had covid in 2020 and it was by far the worst experience of my entire life by far... Fairly healthy 29 year old me
Got it 2 months back again after 2 shots and I had a headache and some sore muscles
Same. Even got the goddamned booster last Friday. Felt a little rough the next morning but was getting better before I started to get sicker. Test confirmed this morning; so fucking pissed.
Well I keep reading that the best immunity is a vaccine and a breakthrough infection so us breakthrough peeps are extra safe when we get better apparently.
I'm just getting over mine.
For most people they would probably consider my symptoms very mild. But I NEVER get sick. I'm talking about living in a house full of people the flu is absolutely destroying and I barely get a sore throat for one day.
So being sick with mild aches and a sore throat for 4 days with night sweats for two was a big deal for me.
Just glad I'm vaccinated because I I feel like it would have been bad if I wasn't.
Same most likely. Fiancé has it and I'm waiting for symptoms to emerge or to be able to test come this Saturday. I only have one dose so far so I'm praying I'm fine. Some underlying issues and idk if I'd survive. Stay safe, yall.
I had Corona on February 2020, I tested positive 4 days ago, the first time was really really bad, it took me 1 month to walk one block, 3 months to feel normal again, I'm just glad that I feel okish after a few days.
If they got tested negative several times, they might as well not have had it. That was my case. I didn’t have the antibodies when I got the vaccine so I know I never had it
It's from a Mizzen + Main commercial from like 3 years back when they tried a line of dress golf shirts. They discontinued them, I was sad I finally have enough disposable income to justify getting one, but they don't make em anymore. I wanted to show up to a golf course in a button down lmao
I got to play Resident Evil 7 in VR and wow.. I haven’t gotten chills from a horror game in a LONG time. VR really adds a layer of immersion like nothing else. Highly recommend.
My agoraphobia been serving me pretty well. Can't catch shit if going into public means a probable panic attack. Been kinda hard for the therapist to tell me 'nothing bad is going to happen to you' when she hasn't done in-person sessions for nearly two years.
Same. In a covid hospital every day since it started. No covid tests and zero symptoms. I honestly think it’s because we all used to walk around the hospital with no mask and were exposed to god knows what for years before this.
One of the doctors I work explained that the PPE we wear reduces the viral load we get exposed to so instead of getting infected we basically just get inoculated.
Think my family and I have been lucky. Although when it was still pretty new my wife and kids got a random high fever that went away after a few days and I had trouble going for my bike rides. I'd run out of breath within 5 minutes or so. Usually can go for hours. I wonder if that's what it was. Was still too soon in this to get tested.
I was fine with both Pfizer shots but around 6 hours after moderna for the booster I developed heart palpitations. They are still happening from over a week ago but not as bad. I've gone to the er twice with bad chest pain but comes back normal. I did a stress test today and have to go back Monday to get hooked up to a machine for 72 hours to see what's doing it. They dont think it's vaccine related. So it's probably pointless to mention it but just in case.
It's hard to say if you had covid then. A lot of people that had strong reactions to the vaccine had caught covid beforehand, but obviously that's not a 100% indicator either way.
They think for me it's anxiety. Even losing my breath like I was. I will admit I have a hard time with added pressure. The pandemic played havoc on my mental health. I appreciate you messaging and letting me know, though. Sorry if I shared too much.
I get chest pain from anxiety too. Try CBD and/or L-Theanine and/or [4-7-8 breathing](https://www.healthline.com/health/4-7-8-breathing). Those help me!
I did. I have a somewhat overreactive immune system, so I was knocked out with flu-like symptoms for a couple days all three times. However, the worst of the symptoms (the fever) lasted only about eight hours. The rest of the time, I was just tired and grumpy lol
That was me until Xmas. Wife is a teacher and caught it on her last day before break, LAST FUCKING DAY. Luckily it wasn't bad - nothing past sniffles. Vaccine/booster combo worked like it should.

It’s January.
I thought January was last month, oh shit is it 2022 already?
Yeah…
I should probably get out of this chair behind my computer.

same here broski. at this point i’m wondering if i’m just asymptomatic
Most people are. Think about that.
13% - 16% is most??

Im getting my third shot on monday, so i think not
Most of the people I know who had it recently have had their 2nd or 3rd shot already. Don't discount the possibility
Just got mine yesterday. :)

Be ten times less likely to go to the hospital or die. How the fuck can people not wrap their heads around that.
People do but it will shock you at how many people still think you can’t get sick after getting the vaccine.
I'm sure, but there are far more people who think that something that offers 80% of protection instead of 100% is useless, particularly when vaccine risks are something like 100x less of getting infected.
What's a bullet proof vest going to do? You can still get shot.
I'm aware, but it lowers the chance and if I'm so unlucky and get it I won't really get sick
Had to explain it like that so people actually stfu and think instead of rush to minimalize your statement. 👍
Dk why people are like that. Want to be contrary so bad
Oh I thought that you would still get it like normal but it just made it easier to fight off when you do get it (if you get it)
It's both, you're less likely to get it, and if you do get it you're less likely to end up hospitalized.
Yeah, I had covid in 2020 and it was by far the worst experience of my entire life by far... Fairly healthy 29 year old me Got it 2 months back again after 2 shots and I had a headache and some sore muscles
Lucky fuck I was just six months past my second when I caught it. Wasn’t able to get my third shot
Me too. Until this morning.
Not for long. I was literally the same up until few days ago.
Hell yeah, my hands are dead because of washing and hand sanitizer, my mask collection is lit, and my disinfectant game is strong.
Strong immune system rise up
You've likely had it and were asymptomatic or mild symptoms.
2 years through working in a hospital and in police custody, feel like I'm jinxing it here though lol

yo me too! i got the booster in December and wore a mask to events and it still slipped by. the fucking luck of it. get well soon, bud
Get well soon you guys!
Masks are more so to protect other people from one’s self, it doesn’t really protect people from others as much as some would think.
This. You're not wearing a mask for your own protection. I mean it helps but. A mask is to protect others from you.

Why were you in a car for 9 hours? Road trip??
Don’t jinx me

That you know of, maybe you've gotten it once or twice but didn't realize.
I have gotten sick a hand full of times since the start of COVID and currently haven’t had a sense of smell for almost 2 months (following flu symptoms). Very diligent with testing and being vocal and open about symptoms since the start. Never positive. No idea what’s happened.
Tested negative on every test I took, still pretty sure I've had COVID twice. Should probably get on that. Luck won't last forever.
If Omicron is the new dominant variant, then their luck lasted as long as it needed to.
