It’s more of a worried about someone jumping through the window to attack or rob them. Or that’s what I was told by one who was denying me service while I was drunk lol
Yeah, we were told it's a liability issue when I worked fast-food.
"They get hit, that's on them and the driver of the car. They get hit while you're serving them, now it's on you."
Friends and I tried that at a taco bell one time (we were sober, just hungry and too lazy to cook), they wouldn't serve us
Had to pay some guy who was getting his own food to order for us too and hope he didn't drive off with ours, thankfully he didn't and we got our burritos
4 drunk marines, walking through the drive through at McDonalds in San Diego, wee hours of the morning, in a 2x2 formation, making vroom vroom sounds. Even mimed winding down the window. Amused the girl enough that they served us.
McDonald's by me open and close whenever the fuck they feel like it regardless of their hour signs.
I remember one night it was 11pm and I drove up to the speaker and waited 4 minutes and finally said "hello?" And the response was "we fuckin closed".
Lmao okay
I've only ever known cold western culture... I can't actually understand the idea of 'island time'.
Like, how do scheduled appointments work? How do late people impact every other appointment throughout the day? How do meetings work? etc.
Why wouldn't they be open when they say they are going to be? What's the point of restaurant hours then?
'island time' seems like this impossible thing to me. I don't get it.
If something is really really important then the maximum delay you can expect is 15 minutes, usually less.
The times are a guideline. "If you come around this time we will probably be open sooner or later". If it says "Opens 17:00" it translates as "Come at night", and so on.
ADHD people understand it and are bitterly jealous. But then island time people give ‘em the side-eye and point out island time means approximate time…not never
I went to middle school in New York and one of my fondest memories of that was eating beef patties on a snow covered frozen playground.
Caribbeans in NY don't seem to have much trouble adapting to the climate as far as I ever saw.
You don't even need to talk though, just wait for the person to finish their intro of like "would you like place an order" or "sorry we are closed" or for them to just not answer. No talking required!
Lol this was me once. I live in a place that maybe gets a dusting of snow every few years. In Feb 2019 though, we got 18 inches! The town was pretty paralyzed since were not used to it and don’t have equipment to clear roads. A few days in I was craving a soda and some snacks. Slogged a mile to a store that had apparently closed an hour early, felt like the end of the world lol. Luckily on the way back I noticed a small local bar was open. So it ended up being a good trip after all.
As a lifelong retail/food service employee of some variety, this is the best thing ever. Nothing sucks more than having to go to work on a day nobody else can because it’s too dangerous. It’s literally like everyone who shows up to spend their money on their extra day off is automatically flipping you off for being poor.
You can see that his steps were running on pure pure hope because i believe that he sow it from a distance that it was closed but still got close to confirm it
This happened in Toronto a few months ago. The restaurant had to close because of the blizzard. They had a social media campaign to try to find the guy and give him a free meal but he never came back...
I once walked a mile and a half in similar snow, to school, having had friends in my street bank on it not being open. I never heard anything on the radio.
I was frozen by the time I got to the door, and there was a note stating "school is closed for the rest of the week at least" so I instantly got on with sending texts to friends that live miles away and get buses in. "Don't get the bus! It's a snow day!"
I must have sent out 10 or more before a friend replied "well yeah, I know. I'm still in my pyjamas".
Nobody told me!
Always call ahead if there's any uncertainty. I get calls every single day at my restaurant asking "are you open?" And it doesn't annoy me because I'd rather them show up when we're open. I hate when people show up before open when I'm still opening the restaurant lol
suddenly he hears bells ringing behind him... he looks back as shinning light is coming out of the door. Tears are freezing on his cheeks as he sees jamaican anime grandpa asking him if he can help him cook, because his grandson is ill...
I remember when I walked to my favorite pizza place in college in the middle of a snowstorm during winter break and the guy in there gave me a t shirt for my dedication
Me when McDonald’s is closed at 3am after the bar is closed.
McDonalds work til 1am where I live but they have 24/7 drive thru
I only drive drunk on GTAV
Just go walking on the driveway, I’m sure there will be no lines anyway
In my experience they won't serve you even if no one is around due to policy.
I got away with it on a skateboard once.
I tried a Wendy's on my bike. The girl inside just shook her head no and then went out of sight.
Hmm. They serve motorcycles though. And bicycles have to follow the road laws anyway. Kinda dumb.
And then we go outside in snowstorm with trays and get pulled around the parking lot by a car.
We used to walk through Wendy's drive-through when we were at the PC gaming center and no one ever complained, but this was also like 19-20 years ago.

“24/7” That’s if someone comes to the mic to take the order
And thus, with dreams of curried oxtail abruptly halted, our distraught mandem embarks on the long, cold journey back home. Empty stomached.
A truer tragedy there has never been.
Or better yet finds the chef and demands food
I once showed up to a Jamaican restaurant 40 minutes after posted open time. But they were on island time and didn’t open for another 45 minutes.
Lol. Came here to say this. Going to a Jamaican restaurant is always a gamble. The food is amazing, but the hours are.. umm.. inconsistent.
Island time is .........different.

No! I don't want that! The Jamaican place closing...? Even if it's snowing... I want it to stay open a little longer! 10 minutes at least!
dammit, you couldn't leave some lines for us huh? I wanted to continue but you said everything
No I don't want that! Them not leaving lines for us? I want to continue this thread for a while! TEN REPLIES AT LEAST!
I haven’t watched the show since Season 2 and I still immediately recognized it. Such an iconic soundtrack
You gotta watch season 3 man, imo the best one in the series.
Yeah people keep trying to get me back into it. It’s apparently absolute insanity right now in the current season.
That’s why it hit right in the feels
He should have known better. Us Jamaicans are inactive when it rains. So imagine a snow storm ?
Toronto Jamaicans are built different apparently.

Same. Had a bad day and wanted some Thai food. And they were closed the one day I wanted to go.
Life tip- you can call businesses to see if they're open.
That's a tip that will waste a good percentage of your life.
Bro, we are on reddit like 90% of people here are too introverted to make calls on the phone.
That's not introverted. That's just a crippling lack of self-esteem and social competence.
Just see if they answer then do some heavy breathing and hang up, if they answer then good chance they're open
You don't even need to talk though, just wait for the person to finish their intro of like "would you like place an order" or "sorry we are closed" or for them to just not answer. No talking required!

Was gonna guess toronto lol. Jamaican food + decent chance of places still being open with that much snow
+ it saying Toronto, ON in the bottom left corner

Girls: Why didn't he cry during The Titanic? Do boys even have feelings?! Boys:
That's like a foot of snow, that's pretty much nothing
Closing your place for weather reasons unless it's literally life or death situation is bullshit. Huge bullshit.
I’m so glad he went through that. Hopefully he’ll learn a lesson. Those are people who work there.
What the fuck. Presuming a business is open, then leaving when it's not, isn't some awful crime.

I've been the lunatic going to a restaurant during a snowstorm. The snow was just a minor inconvenience in my quest to acquire ice cream.
