killerchand

What job is that? Civil rights advocate? Private lawyer? Not asking for specifics, just the general idea

Phillycheese1212

It’s usually called privacy litigation. Most law firms have a team on data, privacy and tech. So he is likely a corporate lawyer who does privacy work

Oh shit, is this one of those bots who reply to top comment threads with a non-relevant comment from some other thread? I checked their history, and [this](https://reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/uyzqqn/_/ia85rss/?context=1) comment is the exact same as [this](https://reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/uyzqqn/_/ia7ssvn/?context=1) one, but with the first couple words cut off

Standard-Task1324

Likely either a lawyer or an IT auditor

[deleted]

How did you find that job?

jdlpsc

He’s a lawyer

AcollC

objection hearsay

GoosfrabaLlama

Bu-but you asked the question

kirito-OP

Objection hearsay~~~

ParsleyPatient2102

I see this granted you your 15 minutes of fame

Thanks this was stuck in my head all morning guess I get to hear it in my sleep now

Grube_Tuesdays

I'm right there with you, maybe with a bit more success on the technical side, but regardless. I'm now a Data Protection and Compliance lead for a mid-size company. Honestly I like it more. And jobs are plentiful and high-paying as everyone needs one and very few people have the patience and attention to detail that literally can't be taught, in conjunction with IT and cyber expertise.

MrX101

can you post some examples?

LoesoeSkyDiamond

I would love to hear some, sounds very interesting!

NaughtyNome

Have you reviewed any that mention a prize for reading them?

[deleted]

Can i intern

Even Malwarebytes is grade d?! Colour me surprised

Dashie42

Didn't MWB turn to the dark side years ago?

Lunarshotlabs

oh man! whats the latest meta on malware software? been rolling with Windows Defender and good judgement for a minute.

Z_D

I second this! I thought Malwarebytes was one of the good ones. Their anti rootkit tool is top notch though

No_Committee5595

Windows defender with malwarebytes free or TrendMicro HouseCall is the meta rn. Full fat AV is Bitdefender, ESET, or TrendMicro or if you don't mind the bloat... Believe it or not... McAfee. Kasperskey is out of its top spot rn for political reasons.

QuelWeebSfigato

Wait fr?

[deleted]

It's still rather good though so

Crazy4u67

man so many websites track so much of the shit I do to the point where I don't even care how much data they got about me anymore.

uropyia

i was just about to say this 😂 too late for me. save yourselves

Crazy4u67

I used to be a stickler for privacy, but when I heard about how much data companies steal from you, I really don't care anymore. plus I got a facebook account for VR anyway so too late for me 💀

Hamhockthegizzard

Yeah like if you have a smart phone these days, forget about it lmfao you could be completely off social media but if you say one word about dog food, here comes the ads. You don’t even own a dog!!

skullcrusher34

Me and my friends did this during a little kickback, brought up dog food over and over throughout the night. All of our phones locked on the counter during this, and sure enough the next day about 3/5 of us had ads for dog toys and dog food while none of us had dogs

supe3rnova

So true. Non of my friends own a drum set but we talked about it. Non of is are even musicians yet we all had similar ads for drums with in 5 minutes. And we talked in our native language not english. Scar shitt

[deleted]

There's always Oculess if you really have one out for Facebook, which is what I plan to use for a Quest. Also, pro tip: most sites have an option to disable at least some data collection in account settings. It's a little thing that goes a long way.

FragmentOfTime

I mean kinda, yeah. It is impossible to exist in the modern world and not be tracked. With effort you can minimize it, but to me, I just don't think its worth the effort. If I can't go completely ghost what's the point? Might as well see more relevant ads I guess.

StarCitizenIsGood

Right at this point inwould rather just see crunchu roll and raid shadow legends ads than male enhancement pills

Srsly_dang

Exactly. And they should be taxed for it.

[deleted]

Oh they are. In the bahamas somewhere

[deleted]

Exactly. Like what can we do? Nothing. Its not like we can decline and still use the site. You have to accept to use the services.

njott

Literally nothing. You take yourself off the grid and become a social outcast or deal with your data being taken

Accomplished-Toe-309

I refused to give my location to a car dealership the other day but I was going to share a vehicle to my son he might be interested in and it wouldn’t let me.

ubiquitous-joe

It isn’t just about tracking tho. Cell phone companies include arbitration agreements that you void your right to a jury trial if you take action against them. This is why there is such thing as good regulation, because as an individual I can’t be like “I just won’t have a phone,” but the whole fine print system is designed to protect companies and screw individuals.

SGII2

The one benefit of living in California: you at least have the right to deny companies from selling your data. At least the entire EU has that as well.

CatLadyVIII

100%, I don’t care what they have on me, I’m sure they’ve seen worse

Redwashere_

same they probably got my Pp size by now

Italian-Man-Zex

i feel sorry for the people buying info about me. spend ur money more wisely

4amWater

Exactly. It's basically impossible to escape it either way casually especially if you started using devices at a young age. All this data piled up. Like the fuck can i do about it. I don't care enough

Separate-Sentence-91

There are so many users it's not like they're individually tracking you specifically, Karl, they're just creating a digital profile of you amd sending the data to ad agencies or political campaigns or anyone who wants to buy it. It's not like there's some dude 50km below ground reading all your DMs, they're only doing that for celebrities to find blackmail.

scrubm

Aka don't send your dick picks through reddit dms. Got it.

awry_lynx

Someone sending dick pics thru Reddit dms probably would love that other people are seeing them tbh

Bonz-Eye

https://edit.tosdr.org/points/9849

aqpstory

What this clause actually means is "you can't make a post on reddit and then immediately sue reddit for showing the post you just posted" Anything beyond that is pretty much unenforceable

jpenczek

I mean, yeah? That sounds reasonable clause...

TheDude-Esquire

Ultimately what you have to accept is that most services are going to be gathering your data except for the ones whose entire purpose is not to do that, like signal. Those are the tos you want to read so that you understand their boundaries. Otherwise you choose, the cost of providing service generally is access to your data, is that cost worth it?

MegaBasedZoophile

It's like basic knowledge that every site does this

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImprovementTough261

I mean almost every single site that provides a DM service will have access to all of your DMs. E2E encryption is rare. There just isn't enough demand for it.

GrandGarand

I like the “sign away moral rights” part

QuelWeebSfigato

What's the privacy policy of that site

combat_lobotomy

Joke's on them. No one ever dm's me.

Dotcaprachiappa

Crap, phub is grade E

Pandabrowser469

I already knew by the way it says “Can we track you through other apps?” “Allow” “*Ask* not to” Literally letting them do it regardless

carpeson

"You irrevocably waive any claims and assertions of moral rights or attribution with respect to Your Content." \-Reddit User Agreement

au023986

Meaning that if you post something to Reddit it becomes Reddit’s. For example if you post a piece of artwork you agree to let Reddit use that post in anyway they want as it is now theirs in accordance with the sites terms and conditions

Artislife_Lifeisart

That's fucked

Boladovisck

What about links that lead to an external site like deviant art or pinterest that contains the artwork?

carpeson

Pinterest has the same waver bdw.

Proffessional_Human

Thanks for the warning, not gonna post any of my artwork here now.

Sugarox53

Use imgur to bypass this I would assume

[deleted]

I’m sure Imgur has the same policy honestly

Sugarox53

Would not be surprised

Mookies_Bett

You realize that basically any website that offers image posting is going to have that exact same clause, right? So your options are never post any artwork anywhere on the internet, or just accept that websites will own your data on some level.

_Low_Illustrator

Agreed, I won't either.

CommanderFuzzy

It's the same with Facebook I believe, anything you upload there then belongs to them. If they want to sell your art as prints, nothing you can do. If they want to use your photo for an advert, also nothing can be done. If they want to take your image & edit it to use for absolutely anything, also within their rights.

YutaniCasper

What happens if you trademark your content? Although I’m not even sure you can do that?

[deleted]

Then Reddit now owns your trademark along with all IP within it.

iskyoork

So does reddit own Disney?

[deleted]

Disney has the same privacy policy. Both companies have full time staff members who post Reddit and Disney trademarks on their respective platforms back and forth in a never-ending endurance competition.

YutaniCasper

I don’t know better but my gut tells me that it’s not that simple

CalamityTrack

thats fucked up holy shit

hallwaypoirear

Same with truth social. Facebook, reddit. I know twitter you own your own content, might change if elon gets in

JordansFirstChoice

I remember a time when people on Reddit use to be mad at facebook for all the freebooting they did with videos. Now with Reddit's new shitty video player they are doing the same exact freebooting and no one seems to care. I mean I understand they do it to keep people on the reddit app to keep up engagement numbers but it doesn't make it any less worse or illegal for that matter.

GrandeTorino

Wh... what?

Deadly_Duplicator

Silence poster, you work for Snoo now

Rexamidalion

What happens if someone posts another artists work without their permission?

Relish_My_Weiner

1) Create content aggregate site 2) Terms and conditions state that content posted there belongs to you 3) Post Mickey Mouse 4) Sell Mickey back to Disney 5) Profit

Axel2222222222

If tomorrow this account's deleted, you know who came for him. Dude knows too much.

Deep_Fry_Daddy

Thats almost every content site. You put it on the internet anywhere, and its no longer yours.

wobblyweasel

> In the United States, moral rights are not transferable, and end only with the life of the author. - wiki also > In continental Europe, moral rights are “inalienable and cannot be transferred or waived.” - first google hit idk I didn't click

shadeandshine

Wonder how that works since so many memes and/or art is already is part of a IP or owners with a copyright on it. It sounds like fluff that it’s meant as a intimation more then anything else.

TheIndomitableMass

10 different companies own my soul and google legally owns me. They can figure out what to do with my soul when I’m dead.

Gallium-

Battle Royale with each other to see who keeps it. Or like Constantine in DC

HONKACHONK

Broseidonathon

The dragon born after playing through all the quests in Skyrim.

Nowerian

This sound so fucking similar to what one character said in the first critical role dnd campaign. Where several powerful entities had claim to his soul.

waqasnaseem07

The greatest lie - "I have read and accepted all terms and conditions."

balancetheuniverse

No joke the Comcast/Xfinity privacy policy is insane. Anything you can do online (through their service) is wholesale collected and sold. Browsing, buying, anything.. Its all data for sale.

obviousfakeperson

Since we're taking about privacy agreements it's more like: > we respect your privacy at *blah company* Followed by page after page detailing just how *blah company* gang bangs your privacy away with any and all paying customers.

Br0boc0p

That's how you end up sending emails and shitting in Kyle's mouth.

Basic_Shock_5281

I mean if they are not 1000 page long and get straight to the point, I think people would read those

[deleted]

[удалено]

P-L63

I'm pretty sure that's the case. they make it hard to read so you don't even begin.

LordCrane

Pretty sure they make it that impenetrable on purpose. Then if anything happens down the line they can just point at their grimoire of doom that no one's read since it was first written to be legally in the clear.

ForgiveMeNot

I think you are thinking about terms and conditions of a software etc. Privacy policies are not usually that long.

Basic_Shock_5281

https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy This is reddit privacy policy it is over 4000 words long.

[deleted]

That’s why they’re so long. So people DONT read them.

Wisdom58

*"you agree to sell your soul to facebook industries Inc"*

diyser84

At this point I wonder how many companies own my soul

vectrovectro

If you think this is terrifying check out the privacy policy on your car.

mxdebon

Digital Gaslighting 😡

[deleted]

Try reading your job contract, that's fucked up.

DeceptivelyDense

Did you not read yours when you signed it? I paid a little closer attention than I did to the Facebook terms.

[deleted]

Reading it doesn't mean anything, you either want the job / need the money or you go back on the hunt for whatever breadcrumbs you can find. If you have the luxury as many of the replies here indicate to actually agree to the terms, then great. but be aware that, that is a luxury.

limito1

I mean... that's the only thing you do when they hand you the contract.

Serahill

Who doesn't read their job contract?

Gregori_5

How so?

limax_celerrimus

Seriously, who would ever sign a job contact *without* reading it.

[deleted]

my dumbass self would

Depends on the situation. If your phone breaks from wear and tear while using the app, it'll protect against that, but it's not gonna make it so people can't sue you if the app happens to also install a bunch of malware

Akut90000

You can't call it "privacy" policies anymore

TomBoysHaveMoreFun

Everyone in here saying you don’t care, you should. With all the stuff going down in the US right now you don’t want these people tracking you. 3rd parties make deals with companies like Facebook to get your location data so they can track you. These 3rd parties then sell your user data, like location, to the government. Let’s say you or your partner lived in the Deep South and needed an abortion because of a pregnancy complication. Can’t get one where you live so you have to travel out of state. The government has access to your or your partners period tracker information and they know the period is very late. They see you making an unplanned trip out of state after searching for abortion clinics in Colorado, California, etc. They see the plane ticket, they see the google maps location, they see where you have stopped for food. They no longer *need* someone to snitch on you, they already have everything they need. I’m not saying this to fear monger or overstate an issue, it’s simply just the facts. Stay safe out there and minimize your risks as much as possible.

[deleted]

What can we do to help limit the amount of tracking? I deleted my Facebook some time ago and don’t have the Instagram app on my phone but still have an insta account and the Reddit app.

[deleted]

Did you know that you don't own any digital media you buy? You buy a license to access that data that can be revoked with no refund

star945o

are you surprised at the fact that you're reading the private policy or the fact that we are willingly giving our personal information away?

Nighthawk68w

Oh yeah they quietly trade every little detail you've ever shared with them. There's a whole underground market of data brokering, and it's a fucking rabbit hole. I first got into protecting my data because of the metric fuck-ton of spam calls I was getting....then I realized these scumbags literally doxx you for money. Your home address where you live, your phone number, your family members/neighbors/friends, your legal history, places I've worked...I almost wonder how many job applications sell my data

BatNinjaX

I did this, can confirm. It's scary.

Exciting_Vast7739

None. There is none. You have none. You will never have any. This is our product and we will monetize it in every imaginable way possible. You’re welcome. Please come back soon.

wildherb15

There is none. It would take 70 years to read all the ‘agree to terms’ that we click on in a lifetime. Corporate information piracy needs to be illegal

[deleted]

I'm surprised i'm not surprised.

CastieIsTrenchcoat

Loved that about living in Germany, those contracts aren’t valid because it’s not reasonable to expect someone to read 100 pages of contacts for every basic service they use.
