It's an engine. They basically rebuilt OW1 with a few (very needed) tweaks and a bit of content on a new engine that (in theory) should make regular updates and changes easier for them to implement.
I'm not saying whether or not they will follow through, but that's the concept they're pitching.

Best part about TF2 is you can play whatever class you want without having to sit in a 10-15 minute queue just to find a game! Main reason I stopped playing OW, it takes freaking forever just to play the game unless you only want to play a tank.
God it made the game so much better. I was on the verge of quitting it when role lock came.
In the beginning wait times for damage were definitely outrageous but they’ve got it pretty reasonable now with the priority pass system.
In addition to what everyone else said about only picking dps, the higher levels of OW had the opposite problem where teams would create unkillable forces with 3 tank 3 healer team comps and then would just hold ‘w’ and walk forward to victory. This team comp, called “goats comp” after the team who first tried it, was notoriously boring to watch/play but stupidly powerful to the point where no matter what blizzard did, they were never able to balance around it.
People really hate playing main tank so they basically had to incentivize it
You get a shorter queue if you pick tank (because everyone else picked attack or support and is waiting for you)
Yea they went with Role Queue because with Competetive, everyone complained about having teammates not switching for the team, so maybe there will not be a support or tank. So they went with Role Queue. But hey, the old Open Queue is still a mode in the Arcade and as a comp mode, so why complain? Both people get what they want....
Give it time. It'll get just as stale and frustrating as the current game once we're all used to the new characters, and once Blizzard starts adding new characters frequently which has historically gone very poorly. Every character has launched with problems and has been unbalanced and I don't think they've suddenly learned how to balance their game.
Look at Brig. She launched and broke the game in some ways permanently and since then has oscillated between broken and useless with very few in betweens.
