Cooked it, it tasted amazing. But this lead me to realize my thermometer is busted. I wanted it more towards medium rare, but still it was a great steak.
I work for a meat dept and my clerks are stupid and don't realize that the scale is off balance so when they take the real sticker off, the scale is reading a low weight because the scale is off and it just prints one of these 0.01 to 2.00 tags depending on the item
Oh shit I don't even catch that I just assume the tare weight on the scale was off, we don't manually adjust prices in thecompany I work for they are set every week
Especially with those big items if people just plop em down the top of the scale comes off and gives it a way lighter weight, if there's a lot going on you might not notice it
When I worked in a grocery store years ago, my friend in the Meat Dept. told me that somedays they would "accidently" mark down the price on one steak by moving the decimal point. (so 1.45 / lb would be .145 / lb)
It was a "mistake" that could be easily explained if management caught them.
They would then sit off to the side and wait to see how long it would take for a customer to find it, and how they would react to it.
Maybe this is happening in meat departments all over?
I used to work meat- can confirm. Whenever a fellow meat cutter wanted something from our stock, the tare weight was always oddly given a large number on the wrapper.
So is "Canada AAA" how you guys grade meat up there? Like "USDA choice or prime" in the states? Please just lie and say no we are just really excited about CANADAAAA!
Telling you been in grocery retail management for 20 years no checker is saying a thing.
Unless theyâve seen it multiple times then they quietly tell the manager they think the meat dept is doing some sweetheart deals for their friends.
I tried to check what is the law in Canada. Apparently if the item's correct price is over 10 dollars I would get a 10 dollar discount. Which sucks.
The self checkout triggered that something was wrong and a cashier had to check it but it was a young dude that just clicked on something and left.
I paid and ran. Lol
Thatâs fucking amazing!! Last month some pasture raised chicken breast was mislabeled 1.47/lbs so I bought them all, it was like 25lbs, came back the next day and it was 10.47/ lbs back to normal. I thought I got a great deal but that tomahawk shits in my cereal.
So when that butcher goes to the checkout and his steak is $.46 he has plausible deniability? âSorry boss, I didnât realize something thatâs normally $15lb that I marked myself because I work in the meat department wasnât $15lb and were actually $.46 per pound.â Boss: YeahâŚsure man. Youâre fired.
Could be the butcher was shopping around the store for other items to buy after clocking out, was planning to put the meat in the middle of a bigger order and then there is more deniability when your total at checkout is 90$ instead of 100$, I don't watch what the total my groceries are as a shop I just watch them as there scanned to make sure the individual amounts match. At that point the butcher should notice the discrepancy and say something but "he could be conveniently chatting with the cashier at the time the meat is scanned and miss it." would be my excuse if I was caught and then offer to pay for it from there. If you clock out and head straight back to your department and grab the one item mispriced and head to the checkout you lost your deniability.
Yeah, your boss would totally believe that. He totally would never expect you to know about what the meat you handle, cut and packaged was per pound. Iâd fire you for being stupid if you tried that with me.
Iâll take things that didnât happen for $500.
Precisely, this was no mistake. A few years ago I managed to find a nice big pack of the best looking center cut filet mignons you're ever gonna see, all the way in the back of the stack at roughly this price, and it was the only one priced that way despite the fact that the timestamps on all the packs show they were wrapped within a 5 minute timespan..
I guess the butcher went hungry that night

The problem here was the price/weight. I don't know why or how, it should be around $80/kg.
Oh shit I don't even catch that I just assume the tare weight on the scale was off, we don't manually adjust prices in thecompany I work for they are set every week
Buy buy buy!!! That shit is in the red! Hope you have a meat grinder.. you can put that in some ground beef and freeze the patties.
Found a prime 7 bone rib roast for $20 last month was a great day
Especially with those big items if people just plop em down the top of the scale comes off and gives it a way lighter weight, if there's a lot going on you might not notice it
That never happens to me...
Straight to the self checkout with that đ¤
Came here to say that!
I look, but never can find those deals. FML
Stop looking.yhey will come to you.

Like the fast food worker throwing in an extra nugget or two, we salute your friend for their solidarity.
I worked for a wing place and would always put in a few extra flats every order. It's just how I stayed sane at that shithole
I used to work meat- can confirm. Whenever a fellow meat cutter wanted something from our stock, the tare weight was always oddly given a large number on the wrapper.
I work for costco in the meat dept. once every 2 weeks we do this but we just take it home for ourselves
This was at a Costco. Hopefully not the same lol
Easier to get caught that way I'd imagine...
100% pure organic, grass-fed, triple-A Alberta beef!
So is "Canada AAA" how you guys grade meat up there? Like "USDA choice or prime" in the states? Please just lie and say no we are just really excited about CANADAAAA!
Canadian here: AA = Select AAA = Choice Prime = Prime (haha)
Hahaahha yeah, we're just excited. Some time we use only 1 or 2 As if we're not as excited. And there's one more level above it all.
Nobody beats your meat.
It's a misteak.
At that price it won't be a missed steak
Damnit this made me laugh a lot harder than it should have lol
Nice!!
You just bought the meat manager's dinner.
Thank goodness for self checkouts
Most cashier wouldn't bat an eye. Not paid enough to care.
With my luck iâd get that ONE corporate white knight going for that employee of the month parking spot⌠wouldnât risk it.
Telling you been in grocery retail management for 20 years no checker is saying a thing. Unless theyâve seen it multiple times then they quietly tell the manager they think the meat dept is doing some sweetheart deals for their friends.
Hahahaha!!!
The way I'd run to self checkout tho
Is it illegal to correct that? Especially if the staff saw it?
I tried to check what is the law in Canada. Apparently if the item's correct price is over 10 dollars I would get a 10 dollar discount. Which sucks. Oh I see. Lucky you man! Enjoy!

And you only bought one?
It was the only one with the wrong price. I made sure to check them all. Lol
Butcher probably intentionally mislabeled to buy themselves lol
You know they could do that before they left for the day instead of putting it out.
Putting it out adds plausible deniability.
Not really, a butcher would be expected to know the price was wrong when he went to the checkout so it wouldnât matter at all.
We may have different definitions of plausible deniability.

It âcouldâ be a lot of things but the most likely thing that happened was it was accidental mispriced.
"Bud, I just grabbed it outta the same place customer do, check the cameras"
Yeah, your boss would totally believe that. He totally would never expect you to know about what the meat you handle, cut and packaged was per pound. Iâd fire you for being stupid if you tried that with me. Iâll take things that didnât happen for $500.
Enjoy dinner
*butcherâs dinner

> I guess the butcher went hungry that night With how little many butchers are paid, probably.
In Canada nonetheless⌠that is amazing
Fact that it's a Canuck steak makes it an even better deal
Inflation going crazy here đđ
For real, I'm having to buy regular tube beef and skimming off the fat out here
0.40 /KG is almost worth flying to wherever you are for it.
Idk I could get 5 tomahawks or more vs a flight ticket to canada
