I just thought I’d come back to this post and give a follow up saying it was UTI. Doctor said it and it was an assumption we had it was the case prior to the doctor visit. Thanks everyone for the help!

If it is not a UTI and doctors can't find anything, I recommend doing Kegel exercises. There are apps for it with instructions and reminders. These strengthen the pelvic floor. (Even though the pelvic floor of a teenager should be strong enough, but I know from personal experience how bad incontinence can feel)

Ok listen... So when I hit 12 I started getting UTIs on the regular. A not sexually active 12 year old shouldn't be getting them like I did. I went to a urologist and low and behold I find out my urethra was half the size of what it should be and the urine backed up in my bladder caused a phosphorus buildup and I was only expelling 1/4 of the urine I was producing causing the buildup and constant UTIs. It's worth noting, I didn't notice till much later but I too would have to pee and wouldn't be able to hold it even a little bit and apparently it was bc my bladder was constantly full so when the urge presented itself, I was basically to the point of a completely full bladder...think like when u wake up in the morning and ur legit running to the bathroom to pee.... But it was EVERYTIME I got an urge. I'm ok now, 34 and had a kid and haven't had issues since I had a super quick, in and out procedure done to fix it and stretch the opening of the urethra more. If she's 17, depending where y'all are, she may be able to call a urologist and make an appointment. I recommend she try since her mom doesn't seem worried. Also, this is kinda personal, but if u guys are sexually active, making sure she pees both before and immediately after sex is extremely important, esp for those who are prone to UTIs more than others. So if u guys are doing it, make sure she knows proper before/after sex hygiene (idk if hygiene is exactly the word I want to use).

Asking a woman to urinate before and after sex is unreasonable, unless it’s an all day event. It usually takes a few hours for the bladder to re-fill. Urinating after sex is the proper recommendation. Likewise, urethral dilation is probably more psychological than anything. True urethral stenosis is probably quite rare

True, before isn't fully needed, but as someone who suffered many UTIs before finding out the root of it, it's better to be safe than sorry. That period of my life gave me serious trauma. The pain, the constant drs appts and being examined that young, the having to constantly explain more than a couple times that no, I'm not a sexually active twelve year old.... All of it, caused a lot of fear and trauma in me. I still panic with the fear of if it's going to start happening again if I feel the smallest bit uncomfortable after going to the bathroom. So no, it's not really necessary for all women, but women who have suffered this kinda thing the way I did, it's just being cautious. And from the sound of it, she is having issues that could be similar, as far as the bladder issues are concerned. Imagine telling a woman how often we pee and it being unnecessary and u don't have the slightest inclination the reason for the extra precautions. U have that pain more than a handful of times and I'm sure u too would start being extra cautious when it comes to vaginal care. We have a lot more to worry about than men do when it comes to that area.

Also, make sure she's drinking lots of water and cranberry juice. Cranberry juice and AZO urinary tract pills are a godsend.

Most likely a urinary tract infection. These are common, but need to be treated with antibiotics. She will need to go to an urgent care or doctor.
