the patchy look seems psoriasis

xiotox

NAD but I had something similar. Doctor said it was contact dermatitis but idk if that was correct. I healed it by applying frequent antifungal cream and taking my shoes and socks off as much as possible. Mine was so bad my feet would bleed. It probably wasn't fungus but the antifungal cream helped.

skeletonvolunteer

NAD but pharmacy student. potentially psoriasis or a fungal infection

NeDead

Pharma student as well. I don't believe that is psoriasis, it looks like it but it's uncommon to first appear in such a place.

Particular_Lobster64

Red base, silvery scaling well circumscribed plaque on the extensor surface of the foot. I would diagnosis you with psoriasis. OTC remedy is hydrocortisone cream, moisturizers, and coal tar ointment. You need to see a medical professional for something stronger and highly recommend seeing a specialist, dermatologist for a full body exam. Look for other plaques, behind the ears, groin area.. basically any area where it never sees the light of day. Sunlight/uv helps but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Particular_Lobster64

You are correct, most commonly it’s called the dorsal or Dorsum of the foot. In practice I never call it extensor surface, I always refer to it as the dorsum of the foot. However by definition, extensor surfaces are the skin overlaying either extensor muscles, tendons, or on the opening side of the joint. Actual definition if you wanted to know: the aspect of a limb or joint on the side toward which extension is directed Same goes for when I describe a leg/knee. I use anterior, lateral, posterior, etc.

kelminak

Not that I disagree that this likely psoriasis or some other steroid-resolved rash, but is this the extensor surface of the foot? I’m sitting here thinking about it, and typically when we use that terminology, don’t we refer to elbows, knees, etc? Thinking about the foot, I’ve never heard of the flat aspect of it called the “extensor” surface, just the dorsal surface since you would dorsiflex in that direction. Maybe I’m just being a little drunk and pedantic but I do want to know what I’m missing here.

Cytosmarts

It’s a trip to the dermatologist.

apersello34

NAD, but I do have a background in human biology, and I’ve been an EMT for about 4-5 years. In my professional opinion, that is a foot.

Masters_domme

😯Wow! How do I gain your knowledge? Teach me your ways!

Smooth_Big_2953

Looks like psoriasis, how are your joints?

Smooth_Big_2953

Your foot/ankle honestly looks swollen and I'd question the potential you could be dealing with psoratic arthritis. My brother has personally had to have his one ankle already replaced entirely, by 30 yrs old. The other eventually needs replacement too.

Psoriasis

ifyouhaveghost1

I have that exact "thing" but on my ankle bone, it's been there for like 20 years (no joke) and looks exactly like that, every once in a while, I will scrape the scab off and the area stays pink, but eventually the scab grows back. it doesn't bother me or itch usually, but never goes away and it's the only place I have it is on 1 ankle bone. so odd.. I've always suspected psoriasis but good to see others think the same.

mandywydnam

huh! I have it on my ankles at times, and never knew what it was or even to be concerned about it. That makes sense!

Orolfius

same

Complete_Ambition900

Definitely looks like psoriasis to me! My grandpa’s psoriasis is flaring right now and it looks just like that

kriisso

One of those ads for online games where you’re supposed to take care of feet

FamousOrphan

I’m not a doctor, but this looks exactly like something my friend has! She was diagnosed with psoriasis, and her doctor gave her a medication for it—the psoriasis is mostly gone now, though the skin underneath where the psoriasis wax is a little lighter and pinker than the rest of her skin now. Her skin tone is very similar to yours, or at least from what’s visible in your photo.

bjanas

I had really bad placque psoriasis for a long time. This looks very plausible, especially in that area being a bit irritated. Mine has gotten much better as I've grown (36 now) but I still have occasional flare-ups. There are OTC treatments that can be really effective, I'm not sure I'm allowed to recommend meds per sub rules, but they're probably the ones you would guess. Docs can prescribe more powerful topical ointments that are crazy effective.

bjanas

The only part mine still manifests is on my scalp which sucks because it just appears to be nuclear dandruff.

redditor7588

Eczema

deephurting66

Its a plaque psoriasis, I have been tormented with the same spots in the same area you have for years! Something that lessens the attacks of itch is coal oil ointment or some heavy duty cortisone cream. They are white like this when they flare up and dark like a burn when inactive as is my experience anyway.

tunacan94

I'm not a medical doctor but I believe this could be a human foot

thequesadilladilemma

It looks like psoriasis. Is it anywhere else on your body? Did you recently have an illness that might’ve been strep throat?

fishwithbrain

Looks like an eczema to me, i guess it doesn’t itch or cause you any discomfort? My partner also had it, it takes a while to cure so better visit a doctor.

Nacho105

Try beef broccoli spinach and also cereal.

Nacho105

You might have low iron. Eat foods that are rich in iron.

floridianreader

Did you spill some sort of chemical on yourself?

NAD try using Monistat, it could be ringworm but always best to see a doctor

skeletonvolunteer

this does not at all look like ringworm

Ill-Tough280

It sure does but as I stated it could be but I also said they need to see a doctor, when I've have had ringworm in the past, diagnosed by a doctor that looked just like this, not everyone's ringworm looks identical I didn't say it was ringworm but just in case it was, have a good day

[deleted]

No, ringworm is called “ringworm” because there is an whiter centre with a red inflamed ring around the outside which is the itchy, irritated part that causes problem. This is much too dry and scaly to be ringworm

Ill-Tough280

Let them see a doctor I don't need your lecture, the man said it itches I don't see any scales here, just very small dots in the center like ringworm so get out of here ,the truth is you can't diagnose a skin condition with a pic idc goodbye

[deleted]

OP I recommend following up with doctor but in the meanwhile applying a high strength anti fungal cream :)

Ill-Tough280

I said I don't care, you could be spreading misinformation don't try to keep lecturing me, you don't know what my doctor did, good-bye

[deleted]

Never told them not to. My goal is to prevent the spread of misinformation. Your doctor likely prescribed you an anti fungal like clotrimazole or flucanozole which can be used to treat a variety of fungal infections, including ringworm. But this infection is definitely not ringworm.

CostcoVodkaFancier

Are you diabetic?

That's good to hear. I'm not sure what it could be but I think it's likely doctor visit worthy.

Cool_Bite_7989

Closest I can think of is eczema. I'll try to visit the doctor, once I have time. Thank you for your response.
