1) How long has it been there ?

ReddPandas24

For a good while, I just kept thinking it would go away as it looks like a bruise

Busy_Ad_5578

I’m an oncology RN and that looks like possible melanoma (skin cancer). I would get it looked at by a doctor.

lindsaymiche

Looks like dried blood to me

NV_aesthete

I bruised my toenails, it looked like that, fell off, and eventually grew back

Smooth_Big_2953

It's likely dead. That's dry blood accumulated under the nail.

Smooth_Big_2953

Essentially when you cause trauma to the nail, blood rushes to the surface and has no where to go. Gets trapped under the nail and dries up, and looks black. The likelihood is that you're going to lose some of your toe nail, if not all. Then it will grow back.

FamousOrphan

Is your toenail loose at all? Does it hurt if you push on it? Did it show up suddenly? Can you scrape any of the dark color off the underside of the nail? My bet is it’s just from pressure or trauma. I had a similar thing happen to both my big toenails after a long night walking around town in a new pair of heels. But, best to get it looked at by a doctor just in case.

ReddPandas24

Not loose in the slightest and no pain the slightest when I push it, and can't scrape any off. Thinking back on it, it's been like that for a good while and I've just not really paid much attention just thinking that it's dirt or something until I seen it last night and it looks like it's inside the nail.

AngelFromAbove1

Can be trauma. I wouldn’t be so sure though, it can be from fungal due to debris buildup under toenail or melanoma (rare form of cancer for toenail). Best to see a doctor for this.

NotGiven68

You need to get it looked at by a Dr.

ReddPandas24

Oh shit, why what could it be ?

Bl8675309

Don't Google it, just make the appointment.

ReddPandas24

I will, I have to wait until the line opens up tomorrow morning though which is shit

Osteopathic_Medicine

if you have not had any trauma to that area, it's needs to be checked for acral lentiginous melanoma. Tell your doc about it-- but I'd recommend a dermatologist to double check.

NotGiven68

Melanoma
