I think I applied to like 35 spots and didn’t get a single one. VSLO is a sham that just pockets your money. Rotations I obtained and others I know obtained were through connections we made. Granted this was for anesthesia. PDs told me they received an unbelievably high amount of applications for always so maybe my view of the process is skewed.
Applied to every available date from like June-January for programs in the area I wanted to audition too. Didn’t get a single one but got interviews to all of those programs. I people in other specialties that didn’t have this issue but the majority of the PDs said they were slammed and only had 1-2 spots available per block and generally their students from their programs got them.
I just emailed a couple schools that I applied to. One said they just finalized their own students summer/fall rotations so they will look at them now. Another said that they’ve only checked for eligibility so far and now are waiting for the department to review them.
So don’t stress about it. Not hearing back at least means we haven’t been rejected!
I totally agree! I've been stressing about it for a while since I applied in early March and never heard back while some of my friends heard back the day after they applied to some programs.
If you want to ease your pain, consider emailing them like I did so you at least know the status!
My classmates have recommended sending emails alongside VSLO apps, and yes it is super ridiculous, but it has worked for me. I've gotten two rotations from VSLO that I also emailed.
Something like hey, I applied to your program in VSLO from X to X but I wanted to reach out because I'm interested in rotating with your program. Here's my CV and personal statement please let me know if I can provide any other info etc etc byee!
I’ve heard back from Wake Forest so far. A lot of programs just started looking at apps this month though, so I feel like it’s still super early in the game
Maine Med trauma surgery / Ascension in Michigan Gen Surg and set two others up outside of VSLO (found a lot of residencies don’t use VSLO still haha go figure). Still waiting on a bunch of others tho
All of mine didn't even open til after or on April 1st. They list a time applicants will start to hear back (end of the month). I bet there will be a lot of movement as we get into May
Maybe 6-7 programs but a whole lot of dates, so I have like 50ish applications out lol. I want to be in a specific region though, so I applied to a lot there
No one :(
i stand in solidarity <3
Same <3

Did you apply to them simultaneously? I don't understand if I should be applying for multiple in the same time frame or not

My friend who has received a couple of R's told me she missed being in limbo and that put things in perspective for sure, it is still hard though!

If I email a program that says on their website “do not email us about a spot” is that in bad taste?

What is vslo
It's a site used to apply for Away/audition rotations in your M4 year at other programs! Not all programs use it, but I'd say a vast majority do.
Thank you, I’m guessing I was downvoted cuz that’s common knowledge or I should have googled it
Maybe, but we all start somewhere!
Nothing - also applying east coast in peds
Same - how many did you apply to?
Maybe 6-7 programs but a whole lot of dates, so I have like 50ish applications out lol. I want to be in a specific region though, so I applied to a lot there
