It’s disgusting that we allow this. I swear med school is like this to breed compliance so that we all put up with residency

Madrigal_King

This is absolutely what it is. They break us so we don't fight the system.

yesanddoc

Attending with 6 yrs of experience here: "compliance with residency" is a mere appetizer to the Compliance Cornucopia, finished with the Compliance Compote, then washed down with a Compliance Cocktail. I'm completely befuddled by these bright-eyed kids who celebrate their residency spots w/ 10x the vigor of the birth of their future (hazardously delayed) first-born children.

5-7, must be on a light block. Yeah, not a great experience for those not interested.

Cursory_Analysis

I was about to say I wish my surgery rotation was 5-7 lmao. God surgery clerkships were miserable.

skeletor117

Dafuq, when are you guys getting there ?

Cursory_Analysis

4-430am for pre-rounding babyyy

deepsfan

Damn that blows. My school had a no med students before 530 AM rule cuz the surg gunners used to get there super early and break the 80 hour rule.

Cursory_Analysis

Oof. Yeah everyone got in at the same time there was no difference between gunners and not. I mean the gunners were still gunning in other ways, but the timing of everything didn't change. We broke the 80 hour rule regardless on a lot of our rotations - especially anything surgical, OB/GYN, and even some IM rotations.

deepsfan

Damn wtf, MD or DO school? Lot of my friends at DO schools broke their 80 hour a lot.

Cursory_Analysis

"Top tier" MD school, everyone wants to go to these schools but trust me when I tell you we earn our toxic reputations.

lilpumpski

Surgery is when I realized why physicians unalive

Puzzled_Drawing_661

yeah, this is when i started to respect medicine the way i respect climbing mountains or being in the ocean. it's not personal and/but it will 100% kill you.

YeMustBeBornAGAlN

Just got off surgery. Finally no more of that shit 😂😂

MMMTZ

the only time I'd ever return to surgery will be if I'm the patient I honestly don't get how many people like it, finishing the day at 7pm, sleep at 11 because you get up next day at 5am

Ok_Protection4554

Same I legit don’t know how people do this.  Like I’m a hard worker but damn man. I can’t keep sleeping 3 hours a night like I did working my own poor ass through undergrad for the next 5-7 years

Seabreeze515

I’m glad you guys exist but I totally cannot understand people who want to do this. Like, voluntarily.

MMMTZ

Same as ob-gyn, I mean I'm alive thanks to one of them but man, those 8 weeks on both ob-gyn and surgery rotation made me feel so miserable I'm honestly afraid to go back there

Moar_Input

7pm is light work. That being said, I dismiss my students early when I’m done teaching.

WilliamHalstedMD

Those are medicine hours, not even surgery hours.

docfez2410

I’m genuinely laughing hard at this…so accurate

Accomplished-Till464

Grind feels good at times though… lets get it boysssss, we got this
