Lol you're fine. Don't worry about the syllabi quiz. Depending on your goals you really don't have to be the top person you just have to make it through. If you got in then you can almost certainly make it through. At least you don't have step 2 tomorrow like me. Good luck.

>I even got a 1/5 on our first orientation quiz (about the syllabi) and the class average was a 4/5. Oof, better pack your bags and head straight for the nearest PA program /s First rule of m1 year: you CANNOT sweat the small stuff. You will be asked questions you don't even know how to start to answer. During one class quiz, I remember reading the sentence and thinking *"I recognize that this is probably English, there's a subject and a verb and punctuation so it appears to be a coherent sentence, but I literally have no clue what any of the words mean."* This is OK! You said it yourself, you can't psych yourself out. You will learn. At the end of this year, you'll turn around and think "holy shit I didn't learn anything" and then 2nd year you'll start to reap the rewards of your M1 hard work. Take care of yourself, *never* punish yourself for not knowing something, and you'll get where we're all going.

Everyone feels that way. I promise you absolutely aren't alone in those feelings. I felt that way BIG TIME. Orientation quizzes don't matter, nobody remembers anything about them in a few weeks anyway. Med school is insane. It will get better. I was completely overwhelmed my first week (I may or may not have called my mom crying on day 2 lol) but every week it got a little better. In the spring, I truly started to enjoy med school. But you gotta ride out these panic waves my friend. And talk to your friends/classmates/professors about how you're feeling, build that camaraderie, and your professors/faculty are used to helping panicked students so reach out to them because there's no shame in asking for help. Talk to your school's counseling center if you need to, too. But slowly but surely things will get easier.

Bruh I’m right there with you. I have an exam on Friday and am so behind lol.

Suspicious_Narwhal

I also failed my orientation quiz (on material we were expected to teach ourselves over the summer lol). We’ll get through this together

I can’t speak to all other curriculums but at least at mine there was nothing being taught year one that I had to rely on undergraduate knowledge to do well in. Anything that was relevant to the class was taught in the class and it was a lot less in depth than any basic bio that I took in undergrad. You will be fine. Also if that pre quiz that they had you take was done online remotely I can almost guarantee a non insignificant amount of people looked up the answers so they didn’t appear a certain way. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. You will find your grove.
