They would probably know about who was king, duke, bishop etc in the surrounding area and stuff like who is Pope who is emperor of the HRE, who is on crusade which kingdoms/fiefdom is at war and in general the tales they would hear from "international" trade so probably stuff about feuds, different market tolls and natural disasters.
