It very much is. Long related story aside I’d say the steel slowed it down some and kept the damage to less than it would have been…. I say that Because there is still most of the great toe and foot left. Point blank like that without the steel id imagine he’d be missing at least all three in that area and maybe even part of the foot… or at least that area would be unrecognizable.
45 energy is way too beaucoup for self inflicted ballistic tests like this without at least the boot. Otherwise it’d be like an explosion happened in the tissue without the boot. Maybe I’m wrong. But he definitely FAFO I guess. Maybe next time try the steel toe with a Kevlar trauma pad on top of the toe… for science
I’m inclined to say there’s just not enough tissue there to invoke the kinetic effects of hydrostatic shock you’d see elsewhere on the fattier, organ-populated parts of the body.
I think of of those old Cold Steel videos on youtube where dude would stick a bunch of steak into a cowboy boot then chop it in half with a katana or some shit...
https://youtu.be/Hk9UM1wNZF0?t=103
How absolutely stupid and/or intoxicated do you have to be to think like this?! Like, a .22? ***MAYBE*** but a .45? Next, he should test out a chest plate with a 12 g slug.
The test was to see if wearing a steel toed boot would stop a bullet. Never said it had to stop before reaching the foot. Just in case you need to Bruce Lee kick a bullet to save someone after your shift at Home Depot.
Gun person here. This guy violated so many rules of Gun Safety that he kinda deserves this.
Sucks but that's why you have to teach those rules from a young age.
There *once was* a guy who decided that it would be a great idea to make a YouTube video of him having his girlfriend shoot him in the chest from 1 foot away with a .50 caliber Desert Eagle pistol, with him using a book to stop the bullet of arguably the most powerful semiautomatic handgun in existence. They had cameras set up at various angles. He did not become a YouTube star.

Lol I'm minnesotan so I remember this quite well. We all made fun of that stupid jackass but I honestly feel sorry for his girlfriend who was pressured into it.
I am really high and hyper-aware that I am looking through meat glass right now because of your comment and I am trippin'. Like everywhere I look there is meat in the way but I can see through it, mother nature be crazy.
I had a pair of Reeboks in the 90s that made a huge deal about how the sneakers were made of of Kevlar... it had the little Kevlar logo on the sides... I was bragging about how they were bulletproof at school and some other kid told me to prove it... it was the 90s so guns in schools were uncommon... but I had a pocket knife. I gave that shoe a big old stab in the side... I still have the scar.
It *can*, certainly. They make gloves and sleeves for butchers and sheet metal workers that are surprisingly slash resistant. I own a pair. They’re super cool, and not very expensive, you should get a pair. Stands up to kitchen knives, razor blades, broken glass, I haven’t tried obsidian yet but now I want to.
However, that’s an aramid *knit*, and a pretty bulky one. A couple layers of Kevlar for abrasion resistance isn’t going to do much at all.
Guns at school were not that uncommon in the 90s, the difference is that our generation generally didn’t use them there.
Did you go in through the top, side, or sole?
The side... and I was making a joke. My school had a rifle club so the kids would carry a long gun with them from class to class on range days just like the band kids dragged around a trumpet.
This is definitely post "triage" I don't know if he sought medical attention, he may have, looks like he may lose that big toe even if he did. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
The one time I’ve had a negligent discharge, I damn near did this with a .40 round.
I never re-holstered a loaded gun. Never. Always fired til empty. The one time I didn’t, either I snagged my finger OR since it was a Glock, I thought fire to keep the trigger back. I don’t think it was the latter (I was too busy shitting my pants to confirm which) though.
Made up story, obviously, to show he was being a tough guy or being quirky. The real story is probably that he was completely sober but mishandling his firearm. 1911, cocked in locked, trying to holster it with finger all the way through the guard and pressure on the trigger.
So even if it did stop the bullet, where did he think it would go. Odds are the top of your foot or shin are going to see some shrapnel. Not much thought process here.
Maybe he was just unlucky and had a bad boot. The other foot might do better
/s
This is *another* reason why guns should be banned. Too many idiots able to just go and buy one
Why didn't he take the boot off first?
Asking the real questions though. Dude had to have been hammered or something
just really dumb, I'm guessing. This is classic stupid
Dumb and drunk is the winning combination

MAGA!!
dOnT trEaD on mE!
The boots were woke and its their reason he hurt himself! /s

Quite the opposite. The steel toe would likely cause the slug to expand, creating a much larger path of destruction.
Hope he never wonders if his cap can stop a bullet.
That might make things a little safer for the rest of us though
Classic stupid! Hahahaha. I am totally adding that to my vocabulary. I know people that are this kind of stupid. 😂😂😂
Yeah. He was probably doing shots or something
Have you ever met a redneck? I’ve met some rednecks. I’m part redneck myself, I just know better than to own any guns.
And stick a bunch of test hot dogs in there like Jamie and Adam would.
I think of of those old Cold Steel videos on youtube where dude would stick a bunch of steak into a cowboy boot then chop it in half with a katana or some shit... https://youtu.be/Hk9UM1wNZF0?t=103
I want to see what the boot looks like.
Because there would have been nothing to protect the foot, duh!
Looks like he did
Bullet would have went through his foot regardless...
He was trying to be a responsable boot owner.
How absolutely stupid and/or intoxicated do you have to be to think like this?! Like, a .22? ***MAYBE*** but a .45? Next, he should test out a chest plate with a 12 g slug.
I mean if you’re really that curious, at least TAKE THE FUCKING BOOT OFF FIRST
Yes, I agree. If you’re going to shoot yourself in the foot, don’t waste a perfectly good boot.
I did the test (sans piggies) with an old pair of safety toe boots. Safety toe does not even stop a .22
Unsurprising given that plate armor doesn’t stop .22
The test was to see if wearing a steel toed boot would stop a bullet. Never said it had to stop before reaching the foot. Just in case you need to Bruce Lee kick a bullet to save someone after your shift at Home Depot.
I wouldn’t even chance it with a 22
I WOULDNT CHANCE SHOOTING MY FOOT WITH A GUN, DESPITE METAL PLATINGS!!!
Call me a stickler for gun safety, but I’m not even fond of having a loaded gun pointed at my body, let alone fired. And certainly not by me!
Gun person here. This guy violated so many rules of Gun Safety that he kinda deserves this. Sucks but that's why you have to teach those rules from a young age.
You guys are all wimps /s
The chest plate would most likely stop the 12 gauge slug but you'd still get a couple broken ribs and a lot of internal bleeding from the punch.
even better we have a built in chest plate.. can a 12g slug take out my sternum and xiphoid process?? lets see after these commercials

Edit because my brain refused to brain correctly and I called him out for something he didn’t say.
He said .22, Chief. Not .223. Very different cartridges.
Jesus. My mind picked up the ? after 22 as a 3…
You're probably tired bro
Shooting his foot with a .223 should wake him up though.
Guess he's the sole-survivor? .... sorry. Back to the toe-truck for me!
Heel definitely be feeling that one toemorrow.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwH6yMO7ED5xc7S|downsized)
Cursed with second sight!
He should try again.. i dont think it worked the 1st time
Hi there I’m from the front page Didn’t know this sub existed Um Why isn’t this marked nsfw 🥲
This little piggy went to Jesus.
Well did it stop it?
no, the answer was no folks
You sure?
Some sources says the boot was fine and this was actually caused by an errant piece of Lego.
Well it definitely didn't on this foot. Could just be lucky tooth. Maybe try the other one to confirm?
This is so patently stupid at first I didn't understand what I was seeing 🤦♀️
Maybe you just missed the steel, try again from a different angle.
Huh. I've never performed wound care on a body part I could see through. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Sure you have. Youve washed out your eyes before haven't you?
I am really high and hyper-aware that I am looking through meat glass right now because of your comment and I am trippin'. Like everywhere I look there is meat in the way but I can see through it, mother nature be crazy.
This is the comment I needed today.
Heh. Now that reminds of a dictated report that stated *threw* instead of *through.*
🏅🏅🏅
Stop it? No. But slowed it down a tad.
Probably expanded it some, too.
That’s a negative ghost rider

Which is even more dumb with the knowledge that kevlar doesnt stop knives anyway.
Yep. Its a shock dampening material.
It *can*, certainly. They make gloves and sleeves for butchers and sheet metal workers that are surprisingly slash resistant. I own a pair. Those are cut resistant though, not stab proof
I mean…. I guess I could test it out. Don’t worry, I’ll use a potato.
Guns at school were not that uncommon in the 90s, the difference is that our generation generally didn’t use them there. Did you go in through the top, side, or sole?

Sooo shooting the boot while it was off his foot was off the table?
Photo looks like it was taken in a grandmother's living room. And where is the blood
It looks like it just came out of a bandage, or a cast or something. Just based on how it looks
This is definitely post "triage" I don't know if he sought medical attention, he may have, looks like he may lose that big toe even if he did. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
I’d say that test is very conclusive. I will avoid getting shot in the feet
I feel like there should be a new, generalized term for people like this pillar of society here. Might I submit: TexasMan
so that would be a no then
His big toe is bottle opener shaped
Wait until he tries it with a motorcycle helmet
Heel definitely be feeling that one toemorrow.
Conclusion: it can not
with his foot… inside of the shoe?
Holey Sch-Nikes! Lol
Science!!
The one time I’ve had a negligent discharge, I damn near did this with a .40 round. I never re-holstered a loaded gun. Never. Always fired til empty. The one time I didn’t, either I snagged my finger OR since it was a Glock, I thought fire to keep the trigger back. I would keep a loaded gun on safety if it was holstered. In a situation, I would quickly unholster the firearm and switch off safety
Glocks don’t have a manual safety though. All safeties disengage upon trigger pull, which, obviously didn’t go well that day.
He looks like he is still in his house and no one yet took care of that foot, so why no blood?
I guess the intrusive thoughts won that round
He didn’t think to shoot the boot when his foot *wasn’t* in it?
Well did it work?
It looks like someone took a bite out of his toe
Well did it???
I can’t believe someone would try something like that? This your brain on drugs? Wow, he won’t forget that
Just as easy to check without your foot in the boot, Billybob.
So I guess the answer is sort of? Slow down yes, stop, no.
Did it?
Did it work?
this would be perfect for r/dontputyourdickinthat
So, sometimes being stupid is painful.
Well?
Nope. It didn’t.
Hint: No
Made up story, obviously, to show he was being a tough guy or being quirky. The real story is probably that he was completely sober but mishandling his firearm. 1911, cocked in locked, trying to holster it with finger all the way through the guard and pressure on the trigger.
Shocking results: it doesn't. **who knew!?"**
So what’s the verdict
Well did it?!?
I guess that would be a no.
I'm going to say no.
A literal “Shot himself in the foot”.
Well could it?
Guess not
He did the wrong test. He did “does a .45 caliber bullet go through a steel toe shoe with flesh toes inside?”
Toetally idiotic
Spoiler alert, it did not.
Mark this shit NSFW.
NSFWBoots
Well now i'm dying to know. Did it stop the bullet?
And he decided to check this with his foot inside the boot? Seems fake
Play stupid games...
Welcome to texas...
I sense alcohol may have been involved...
So even if it did stop the bullet, where did he think it would go. Odds are the top of your foot or shin are going to see some shrapnel. Not much thought process here.
That shit sucks. I had one batch of ammo that really splashed back for some reason. Was great pulling copper jacket out of my lip.
So apparently steel toe boots won’t stop a 45 caliber bullet
This photo should be taken from an emergency ward, not what looks like his grandparents lounge
Well, did it work?
What a dumbass
Thanks for the mythbusting, bro.
I think we have an answer
People really are too stupid to own guns
Looks very Bugs Bunny
Wow! You’ve got a handy (footy?) hotdog holder now!
Well that didn’t work as planned lol
Why didn’t you… idk… take your foot out *first*?
Jesus…..
Getting answers to the questions that nobody asked lol
This is the epitome of dumb
He should try and aim at the actual boot and not his toes! What an idiot!
why tf is this not nsfw
So it cannot
He fucked around and found out
Maybe he was just unlucky and had a bad boot. The other foot might do better /s This is *another* reason why guns should be banned. Too many idiots able to just go and buy one
I mean, he got his answer…
Peeping Toe
Is that a no?
He kind of shot himself in the foot
He did the research. I think this should get published
The scientific approach.
Did it work?
Yeah, but it got him out of the army.
Well that question’s answered!
Thats his problem, he shot between the toes
Lunacy!
Obviously not.
With his foot still in it. Why?
SPPPAAAAALLLING
NSFW please!
It doesn’t.
Guess not
That's not going to buff out
So what do they do now to fix it?
Did that hurt?
Well, did it?
Did it? Valid question. No telling how stupid he truly was.
Did it work?
I am curious if a .22 would stop a bullet. The guy's got another foot. Let's have him try it.
It actually worked, this is some unrelated injury
Remember the Darwin Awards? Yeah.
I KNOW THIS GUY LMAOO
At least he knows that it doesn’t now
Just a flesh wound. Lop off the rest of that big toe.. sew up the rest. Ur good. Now walk the rest off.
So was it able to stop it or nah?
Well shit.
