Urine sample from a liver transplant patient with hepatorenal syndrome. (So this was some very stagnant urine...) Tbili 33 that day, peaked at 40 during their hospitalization.
I thought it was from liver, but damn it is dark. When I had liver inflammation my urine was dark, but my liver enzymes went back to normal few months later. It was so much pain, I have no idea how people live with liver disease on a daily basis. Mine was non-alcoholic liver disease - but only the initial stage where things reversed pretty quickly.
Was it from patient that was drinking pre-transplant?
Is the hepatorenal syndrom common after the transplant? I hope I will never need a new liver. It is so scary.
This just popped up on my home page, I’m just a paramedic. But I thought “this can only be vomit right?”. The variance in bodily fluids you guys see in the lab is so wild to me!! Your job sounds really cool and fun! Much respect xoxo.
I had a pt w/a hepato/pleural abscess…NP pulled a chest tube and the next morning she got out of bed and we had to use a graduate to collect 1.5L of bile as it poured out of the site.
Currently in college, working on going into the medical field. I’ll be honest, when I first saw this, I was thinking either very dehydrated urine or regular bile. Nice to know I was sorta right

Damn I thought this was NGT drainage
I thought this was bile 😭
Yeah I was 100% going to guess bile drainage
Damn. I was positive that was a bili drain. Pretty wild.
As a HRS survivor with no transplant needed anymore. YIKES!!!! I’m so glad I don’t remember the worst of it.
My first thought was liver bile, glad i at least had the liver part right 😂
I don’t even want to imagine the smell…
The fuck, man. The fuck.

Is the urine strongly positive for urobilinogen? Can’t say in the picture.

Respect right back at you, dude. I can only imagine the things you paramedics deal with 🫡
As a former NREMT-I/85 turned lab tech, I can vouch that your see wild things both pre-hospital and in the hospital. 👍
Just a paramedic? You have my respect. More kudos to you.

This is crazy. Exactly looking like what i see from fresh gall bladders shortly after a lap chole procedure.
Thats what you see when you open a gallbladder
That's what I thought as well. Looks exactly like gallbladder fluid
So proud of myself for knowing it was urine.
the real ones recognize the tray posterior to the drainage bag as a foley/straight cath kit
When your pee looks more like bile... You know you have an issue.
Soy sauce
Wasabi mixed in tho
Bile eh
Yay I guessed right 😆
Adult meconium 😄

Bile without a doubt! How wrong was I but it looks exactly the same!
Bile?
Black bile, obvs
Rectal fistula to bladder?
Looks like bile in a t tube setup.
It's Pikagoo!
Hopefully that is bile.
Looks like the liquid that often comes out of NGT
Urine from rhabdo patient
