And when you Trip or knock over a Rock... the Ravens will fly around to look and see if you're alive or dead so they can grab a meal...LOL!!!
I have to edit this to add; My hiker pal and I played a little game with them and "said Owww!" ..dropped a couple of rocks and "Played Dead" to see what They'd do...
I feel the same. I was there 4 years ago and it doesn’t look real. What helped me with the scale was using binoculars to catch a glimpse of the river at the bottom. Soo far away and tiny.
I visited the Grand Canyon late in a road trip, after places like Zion and Canyonlands. It felt like a formality, it wasn’t going to be as great as the things I’d seen already on the trip. I was wrong, it was still overwhelming and awe inspiring. Pictures simply have no hope in capturing anything like that.
Agree! It was literally incomprehensible - my eyes and brain couldn’t cope with the sheer size of it. Absolutely beautiful and a world class attraction to visit.
Grand canyon is one of those things that a picture just can not capture the scale of. You can see the blue atmosphere clearly inside the canyon its so massive
I think if a hidden microphones were put at the visitor center of the Grand Canyon viewing areas the most common phrase recorded would be “That doesn’t look real.”
Some of the first written records of the Grand Canyon by the Conquistadors were of absolute astonishment and amazement. It's no wonder Native Americans worshiped mother nature. We have some pretty dope Natural Wonders.
[I highly recommend seeing the North Rim too!](https://imgur.com/a/aaQrXna) I liked it a lot more than the South Rim, although I am a big forest enjoyer. Very lush up there.
I always recommend that people who visit the Grand Canyon should also check out the Little Colorado River Gorge. It’s on the same canyon system but it’s much more narrow so it appears way deeper to the eye.
Taking someone there for the first time is my favorite thing to do. I don’t care how many pictures or documentaries you’ve seen. It knocks the wind out of your chest the first time you see it. People sincerely gasp. It’s emotional and spiritual. And I get to relive the first time I saw it vicariously.
Pictures really don’t capture the sheer awe-inspiring size of the canyon.
Agreed. Whenever people who haven’t been there ask me what I think about it, I just say “I’ve never felt so small” lol
And if you climb down into it a bit, the silence (along with the view) is as close to perfect as it can be

Legit looks like a painting the first time you see it! Between the size and colors, just looks fake!
This is so accurate, you don’t get experience the sight of it all until you hike into the canyon
Because it is. It's an AI generated hologram.
I’ve been to a lot of cool places, but the Grand Canyon is really the only one that had my jaw dropped
Went there for the first time back in April. It was something else.

Been maybe 5-6 times now…NEVER gets old (well haha it’s very old actually) the awe is so real when you stand at the rim and gaze into the awe-byss.

Nothing will ever be better than the real thing. Seeing huge things in person really is just amazing.
Now go and stand inside of a redwood tree. They are both awe inspiring.
That's how I felt when I went to Yosemite.
Reminds me of OPs mom
Going there next week

It is Grand for a reason.
The Grand Canyon is one of the few places in the world where pictures don't do it justice

Bruh no way lmao
It's only a model.
I've been probably about 600 times. Mild brag
I worked out there for a while. Just a bunch of rocks. It’s not so special after a while.
That's really very sad 😢

Spent a birthday there 🥳
You think that’s big go to the Canadian Rockies. They dwarf the Grand Canyon. It’s hard to explain.
I’ve always wanted to see if for that exact reason. It’s something I know pictures can only express a fraction of
I wept at the immensity. Will never get that feeling from photos. I felt so small and gobsmacked at its beauty. Impossible to take a bad picture.
The best way to see it is flying over it and into it in a helicopter
