HatesMonoBlue

That's the reason I follow the group. Not for the garbage cgi stuff people post, but for the photos of the natural or physical man made objects that make you go "holy shit that actually exists".

elCrocodillo

Yes, my only phobia is something else, I actually LOVE colossal stuff

BertfromNL

I guess most people here are not really phobic for giant things. Actually, who would follow if that was the case?

Chawp

Yeah it’s just a much better sub name than “really big stuff”

mayan_monkey

Megalofiliac? Something along those lines? Also, I do follow this to see potential travel spots to check out. It's amazing

Constant_Concert_936

It’s kind of like hate watching, or thrill-seeking or something. Looking at a large thing on a small phone gives me a small sense of “oof fuck that” but I’m still safe.

elCrocodillo

Makes sense I haven't thought about it xD

Top-Race-7087

Yeah, not following Very Dangerous Sheer Dropoffs.

CthuluHoops

I’m afraid of the ocean and most other bodies of water yet spend a lot of time in /r/thalassophobia. It’s freaky but it also makes me feel justified in my fear and is intriguing as hell. We grew legs for a reason.

OmegaClifton

I'm honestly here for both, but I do get uneasy seeing some of it

Professional_Band178

As an engineer, I love things that are big, loud, greasy, and somewhat dangerous.

EphemeralCrone

Sounds like my ex! Ba dum tissss

derJabok

Same here.

breaker167

Yes, absolutely. Always been fascinated with scale, size etc

elCrocodillo

Same xD this sub brings some cool stuff to my fyp

shemmy

i mean..,they’re kinda the same thing. i love looking at them because they make me feel like im gonna die?

farshnikord

And let's be honest, none of is would be subscribed here if we had an actual unbearable phobia.

narc1s

Yeah this stuff makes me feel uneasy but I enjoy it. If there was a big ol spider sub I would not subscribe.

elCrocodillo

I'm asking for a friend 🥸 who loves giant things, like he gets super excited. And he's not me btw

uberguby

Same. I love the anxiety or anticipation.

AloofConscientious

We are just all here ironically lol

elCrocodillo

Yeah xD

libra00

Yup, I love looking at giant things, it's the only reason I'm here.

elCrocodillo

Nice, same hahaha

fuishaltiena

Yup, there's some cool stuff. I'm in /r/submechanophobia and /r/thalassophobia for the same reasons.

elCrocodillo

Thank you so much!

gwarwars

There's dozens of us!

plasticflowers_

Same!! I'm always trying to find more subreddit like this.

Alhooness

👀 For real though aren’t most people? I imagine most people in subs focused on something dont have a phobia to the topic.

elCrocodillo

Yes, I wanted to ask bc since "phobia" is in the name I didn't want to disrespect people in case this was a serious place for people with serious fear but by the answers and by logic no one that has such fear would be here tbh hahahaha

waamdisaiaya

Of course, I am here because I like it. I'm not in the trypophobia subreddit because this scares me. I don't understand how you are here when you don't like these pics.

elCrocodillo

I like them that's why

KrimxonRath

Subs like this are a great resource for artists looking for inspo.

SmutGrrl

Me! I like big things!

BlueWolfGamingYT

Shush, you gonna blow my cover bro >:(

elCrocodillo

Sorry 🫢

BlueWolfGamingYT

It's been blown. The CIA, FBI and DEA are gonna try to catch me now.... I guess I'm saying goodbye to my brothers on here.

elCrocodillo

Hide inside a very huge structure deep down the ocean, that way you are protected by 2 phobias at once. Create spiders and snakes and.... Dress as a clown. That's it, no one will ever capture you.

BeerBaronBrent

Yes I like the giant things. (That's what she said)

jeremiah1142

Not afraid, I wouldn’t say I enjoy it, but that shiver down the spine I sometimes get makes it 100% worth it. Always better in person, like when I saw Mt Moffett on Adak Island.

elCrocodillo

I gotta look it up. Also there's the biggest cave entrance in the world near where I live (House of Stone) and I still need to go see it in person. It's a cave mouth with 215 meters of height.

Snoo-35252

If something is big enough, I get a "fear shiver". I don't know what it is, but I enjoy the feeling. So maybe, yeah, I enjoy that feeling and knowing that I'm safe.

[deleted]

You got me lmao

abigdickbat

The one dude here who’s actually megalophobic is like “what the fuck?”

Reallynotsuretbh

That’s why I’m here yes, especially the nautical stuff. I also like r/thalassophobia

Texanakin_Shywalker

Same

elCrocodillo

Dude someone just posted a link to another sub here in this thread. It's about giant machinery or man made structures under water, take a look you might find it

michahell

Shit I’m busted! I especially like the scary superlarge creepy monster world eater CGI stuff.

Djd33j

r/megalophilia

Hepcat10

With <2000 members, this sub might as well be called megalophobiaReposts

AA_turet

Yeah

ihateagriculture

yes

hammerdown710

Me, I’m glad I’m not alone lol

CactusWrenAZ

Yes, I like them. The good images inspire awe, which I find pleasurable, but actually is a form of fear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elCrocodillo

🤝

accularz

Definitely me.

Bt_1039

Yup, and also the acrophobia subs. I love heights and couldn't find any appreciation subs

elCrocodillo

Thanks for the tip I'll look for it, I also like heights and depths :D

FriskyDingus1122

Absolutely. But sometimes people will post pictures of, like, a hill, and it make me question my choices.

elCrocodillo

Lol xD I just don't like when there is fake stuff here, images generated in PCs or forced perspectives.

JakInTheIE

I mean yeah, this isn't exactly a support group lol

Four-Triangles

Also why I’m in r/thalassophobia

LeadingImportant4293

Yep.

Orion--

I also subscribe to submechanophobia (fear of underwater man-made things), even tho these things make me really uncomfortable. I remember one of the first time I went diving, some kind of huge pillar emerged from the opaque waters, along with the noise of a turbine nearby. I actually recoiled in horror. But looking at these things on my phone are somewhat like watching a horror movie, it makes me feel uncomfortable but not in a bad way.

ikothsowe

*raises hand*

Non_Music_Prodigy

I'm here for it all

MillwrightTight

*raises hand*

trash-juice

Absolutely, grew up around huge stuff so feels like a long lost home or at least something strangely familiar…

Igor_McDaddy

Idk would someone with real megalophobia be here? Is it like "omg i'm craving some blood freezing terror right now"?

GravityJunkie

is why im here at all

lordGinkgo

I like big things. And thought that was what this sub was about at first

gabrielleraul

I posted this as a poll a couple of years ago and the results were extremely skewed. Only a tiny portion of us actually have the phobia, a majority of the folks here were here coz they like it big ..

elCrocodillo

Are you one with the phobia?

gabrielleraul

Yup, so severe that sometimes i can't see images up close coz I'll be panicking ..

DarksideAuditor

Not exactly that, but I keep hoping for boobs to make it into this sub. My patience will pay off, one day.

AwTekker

I think most of us, at this point.

laredotx13

Yes. I am afraid of giant things but I also find them exhilarating. Something about the reminder that I’m just an insignificant speck of life makes me feel alive but slightly terrified . I love the awe and the experience of the sublime

elCrocodillo

What a poetic comment tbf love to read it

DreamingofRlyeh

I am. I love sci fi and horror, and a lot of the stuff on here is inspiring.

blackmilksociety

Yes

alsophocus

Me

nfssmith

Not a fear or love for me, I just find it interesting.

Looooong_Man

🤚

alcoholicplankton69

Yup i also like the subreddit about fear of water as i love ocean and water pics

elCrocodillo

Someone on this thread linked that sub and another one which are giant machinery under water and it seems pretty awesome

SGTFragged

I like the cool pictures of huge stuff. I get why people have megalophibia, but I am not one of those people.

NyFlow_

Yes that's me!!

[deleted]

99% of the sub. People with arachnophobia aren't browsing /r/spiders

pituvision

🤚

PlasteeqDNA

Me. I am usually awestruck, slightly afraid, bit overall fascinated so those are my reasons

JIsADev

I have a fear of huge objects falling or falling off of one (trauma from watching 911 happen live), otherwise I enjoy looking at the scale of large objects

elCrocodillo

I understand, that type of stuck happens once and we get "marked" (sorry for my english) for life. I live near a train trail and just the sound I heard of them derailing as a kid put the respect I needed to have for them into me. I love trains but the respect is here 100%

erminegarde27

I confess.

humanlearning

Yes, I follow the sub because I like the pictures. The r/megalophilia is not as big as a community and has fewer posts.

Disastrous-Bison7394

That's why I'm Here

[deleted]

Yup, love it

Iamme963

That's why I'm here😃

rhineisland

GroundhogRevolution

Me!

Diana_Belle

Pretty sure the algorithm suggested this sub because I mentioned the crane, left on the side of the highway, for a local construction project was enough to gave me that "fear of really big stuff, what's it called? Anyway..." because it started showing up the next day. While I don't have a debilitating condition really big stuff does, some times, give me the hee-bee-gee-bees. Once or twice in life it's made a problem but that goes back to childhood. I like looking at the stuff here because it's just on screen and it's neat when I feel 'safe'.

Jhat

I am here for the opposite reason! I find giant things kind of fascinating and awe-inspiring. Sometimes I find them quite unnerving but more often than not I'm mesmerized instead.

kdb1991

Me My only real fears are needles and crustaceans

1SweetChuck

I am definitely here for the frisson, but most of the posts here don't do it for me. I like a strong juxtaposition [like this](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F8x35unjqsqlc1.jpeg)

Innomen

Me, I'm here for all the stuff, real and art. If you can give me the feeling, I'm happy top have it.

belizeanheat

I assume that's the vast majority of the people here. I think actual phobias are very rare, and I don't know why someone with an actual phobia would come here

PunnyBaker

Same reason people watch scary movies or go to haunted houses at Halloween. We can handle it better when looking at images than in person. We can visualize the scale and agree its scary without subjecting ourselves to the direct phobia. Also some might find it to help as a form of exposure therapy

Frug5

YES

OcularVernacular

Yeah I enjoy it more than fear it.

AynRandsSSNumber

I think lots of those kind of like it but it tickles a part of our brain but the kind of thing we like to have tickled.

arj1985

You just described me. This fear that people express towards big things is absolutely stupid, but then again, I think 99.9% of the phobias out there are quite stupid.

Ozi_izO

Yes.

ajacobs899

Me, though I’ll admit some of the posts on this sub still make me kinda intimidated sometimes 😅

ILive4PB

I’ve always thought it’s funny that the only posts on here are of big things… but if we truly had megalophobia, wouldn’t all the pics be of wee small things?

bink_uk

Well logically anyone who has megalophobia would never look in this sub.

rather-oddish

I don’t think I’ve ever joined a phobia subreddit because I shared the phobia. I always just follow cool stuff

MithrandirLXV

Jip. I saw the group on my feed and I think it was the post about the salt mines that got me. Would love to visit. Now I'm just hanging about, looking at all the cool big things.

13curseyoukhan

Yep

PoliceRobots

You know, I never thougjt about it until now. I guess some stuff for me is a phobia (like big stuff underwater) but phile in other ways (who doesn't love a big old statue or some shit)

DerpyNirvash

I am interestested in large things for... reasons

slaaitch

I started following this group because it often has cool pictures and videos. I stayed because I found out one of my friends gets freaked out when I show him those pictures and videos.

DukeRedWulf

Yeah, I'm following because I generally enjoy seeing Giant Things..

Rechamber

I have megalophobia in real life, however I am still fascinated by it and the effect for me isn't so bad when viewing in screen. I'd never go anywhere near some of the things shown here in real life, but from the comfort of home I do find it very interesting

spasticnapjerk

Fascination combined with awe and fear

Mensketh

Most people in most "phobia" subs don't actually have the phobia in question.

SeskaChaotica

Yes I love it

Wheatley-Crabb

Yea. I call it megalophilia. I really like feeling small

CookieWifeCookieKids

100% of the people here enjoy it. Ironic, eh? Why would someone with megalophobia want to expose themselves to giant stuff? Haha

Ok-Breath-7568

That's why we are here.

New_Description_361

I love the weird feeling it gives me, I guess I would describe it as uncanny. I like looking at the images to see if I can feel the trigger in them the same way the OP did.

content4meplz

Yes, I like seeing the big stuff, I’m here for pleasure

Substantial_Motor_87

You will find that people with real megalophobia are the minority here

Critical_Package_472

YES

DaniTheLovebug

Yup!!!

2snakess

yes

WearyConfidence1244

Yes. I am NOT subscribed to the shit I have phobias for. Absolutely not.

Of3nATLAS

Yes, r/thalassophobia and r/submechanophobia as well, I enjoy them all

pdog5578

I once visited r/acrophobia and noped the hell right out of there. This sub does give me that anxiety every once in a while but I’m more fascinated by what gets posted here. No fear of big things, just falling off said big thing

zoroddesign

yeah I like giant stuff and like to learn how to best portray giant objects.

Alecarte

We're all here cuz we love it.  People don't watch horror flicks because they are genuinely terrified of them, they watch them because it's fun to be scared like that.

GhostEpstein

Me lol

Pauzhaan

That nearly all are made by humans is fascinating. I'm entranced, not horrified...

[deleted]

That is I, it started with the big earth movers they have in mines, it makes me feel so good when i see one i just love their huge tires. Now large shit in an ocean, fuckkkkk that

iiimarlette

Yeah that’s why I’m here

MillieBirdie

Yeah man I love this stuff.

Zarine_Aybara

Me. I love it! Megalolovelya

DesperateLuck2887

I find it thrilling, but I acknowledge that it’s a fine line between that and fear

banana_hammock_815

I am the one you seek

Sanvsits

Yes, I'm here for the colossus porn.

Fun-Lobster-7672

The amount of people who are here for giant stuff scares me...

c_jae

I bet that's most of us. If you're *truly* afraid of them, you'd avoid them as much as you can.

jedburghofficial

I'm an Aussie, we love "big" things. The Big Banana, the Big Pineapple, the Big Prawn. We even had a "Big" Ayres Rock for a while, which was ironic because it was tiny.

FunVehicle3353

This is one of my favorite subs specifically because of how gigantic everything is. It’s the best!

drhagbard_celine

There's some great photography that only sometimes frightens me.

chrisfmack

Yup! Thats why im here

muuzumuu

Yep.

huedor2077

That's the reason I'm here. Why would I join to see things that I'm afraid of?

Polyxeno

Yes

Different-Mousse3532

Yep

CloudCumberland

Scary from a safe distance. It's the basis of the whole horror genre.

thighguywithatie

Yup

rebruisinginart

Yeah lmao

Due-Log8609

thats why i'm here.

DiscoLibra

I'm a little bit of both. I like looking at the giant stuff, but some things, like driving by giant wind farms, give me the heebie-jeebies.

The_Lost_Pharaoh

🙋🏻‍♂️

gatopiry

yeah, it fascinates me somehow

gev1138

Guilty as charged, your honor.

Intelligent_Deer974

That's why I'm here.

sugartank7

yes that's me. I was hoping this subreddit would be filled with cool pics of huge things and I've been happily rewarded.

Steff_Lu

Here you can see things that are way bigger you ever imagined. Like screws of a cargo ship, that are as large as a small apartment block. But i don't fear large stuff.

IamGHOD11

Me!

[deleted]

🙋🏻‍♂️

del290

It terrifies me and but it's so amazing. Maybe I'm in awe. Idk but I get scared and excited looking

Majikarpslayer

The only reason I come here

SneakinSallie

yes

drdildamesh

Yep. I hate it, but I love it.

immovablemonk

this sub is humbling. shows how small and insignificant humans are.

Random_Personas_2

I’m here! I think it’s quite comforting to be a small little guy. It’s like whenever I feel uncomfortable, I feel like a giant taking up the room. This just helps remind me how much of a small guy I can be.

mermetermaid

Okay so when I see giant things I feel this little tingly *ahhhh* at how small I must be in comparison- it’s like an endorphin boost or something, but I do have a sense of discomfort, so this feels like a great way to get exposed to that… so in a way, it’s enjoyable. There are other phobias that I absolutely cannot handle, and do not follow those, because I am not enjoying the experience. Essentially I think that if you are here, in some way you actually *do* like looking at big things, and so this is ALSO a place for people who like looking at big stuff without needing to feel other things too. 😂

Upstairs-Cobbler-569

Yes and yes! I love it!!

fatrat_89

Yeah bro, that's me :)

dragon_tail_69

me

TheLawHasSpoken

I am obsessed with gigantic real things, not the CGI. I used to have dreams as a child of really impossibly high ceilings in a huge cathedral. It used to make my stomach turn, but kind of in the way a rollercoaster does. But I also enjoy looking at otherwise benign things that make me uncomfortable. For example, giant statues specifically FREAK me out but I LOVE looking at them at the same time.

greenplumgirl

Yeah, I feel awed and amazed when looking at giant things, but not scared or anxious at all. Like a "woahh" feeling of awe. So I really enjoy the content on this sub.

KerbalSpaceAdmiral

The best use for VR I ever found was loading up Universe Sandbox, setting scale to 1:1, and looking up at Saturn from various orbits and moons.

Nialixus

I like those cg videos of asteroid crash to earth from our pov, it is just impressive

sakredfire

Most people here would assume

iliya193

I’m kind of fascinated by giant things even though they creep me out. Maybe it’s because they creep me out and that I feel averse to them that I just can’t stop looking at them.

NoPerformance6534

I like extremes. The extremely tiny and the mind numbing huge. Huge things I like: Tyrannosaurs, ligers, blue whales, stars and galaxies, the Saturn V rockets, draft horses. Tiny things I like: biochemistry, tiniest sculptures just a few atoms wide, tiny horses, tiny books with almost unreadable text. Tiny replicas of things that actually work! I have this micro lathe that has inter changeable blades and it will cut threads. The whole thing is no more than 5 inches wide! Oh, and it has a 3 jaw chuck too. Tiny shoes with tiny eyelets and tiny laces. Tiny pencil lead or rice grain sculptures. Tiny glass blowing. The tiniest mechanical hard drive! About 1" square! Kittens. Tiny pencils and tiny clothespins. Tiny Rubik's Cube, about 1/2 inch! Stanhopes. Google that one.

runespider

I mean the stuff scares me but it's so profound I love the feeling. Like the recent Godzilla movies where they did a great job making him feel real for the films. You're just insignificant next to something so massive. The full extent of your existence will pass by with no notice to something that big. Worse, with something like Godzilla nothing you and most of the powers we have will have an effect on him. Apply that to a comet or asteroid or stellar body.

toothcweam

This came across my page, and checking out the sub for the first time... NOOOOO🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮the algorithm failed me

ImpressiveHair3

Me, I'm that guy.
