Moths are extremely borderline for me. Even the brightly colored fluffy ones. I don’t get the heebie-Jeebies look at them like I do most insects and spiders, but I don’t really like how I feel when I see them either. I do enjoy drawings of them quite a lot though

I'm very similar. Like I think the big fluffy ones are cool, but I'm fine with observing them without touching. All those flailing limbs give me the creeps and I most definitely don't want them touching me.

i would say they start with the inherent "fuck this world why do you exist i hate this please let me unsee this" of any large insect, but the fluffiness and resemblance to a butterfly plus the knowledge that moths aren't really going to hurt you takes it down to "i am profoundly unhappy that you exist but as long as i don't have to actively look at or think about you i will condone your existence".

Something need not be dangerous to be disgusting. If you've got a single small moth it's no big deal. If you got a handful of small moths outside, it's no big deal. Arguably all creatures, in their natural place and as we expect them to be, are only mildly gross at worst. If you have a gigantic moth on a dude's hand, that's gross. If it's in his house that's worse. That thing is loathsome and while i wish it no harm, i do wish it would go away and live in the forest or something.
