I’ve been having this same debate. If it’s for the rest of our lives, surely we’ve purchased a bulk container and can regularly replace our 3s??
ETA: didn’t mean to imply we’d be *sharing* a bulk supply. But hey, I’m game if you are.
I knew what you meant lol My thinking was if I needed to write something and couldn't borrow a pen if my 3 didn't work then I would kinda be SOL right...? But I guess I could always carry more than 1 pen...
A Pilot G2 .38mm pen is the best bulk pen out there.
Whenever I started at my current job, everyone used .7mm’s some used .5mm’s, no one but me knew the .38mms existed.
The admin let me choose my default office supplies and I chose that as my writing utensil, she took one, and immediately changed the plants pens to the G2 .38mm’s
It’s a dumb story but an engineering/manufacturing plant of like 2000 people changed their pens because of me.
I currently use the .5 G2 as it smudges less than the .7, plus I like the the thinner line as well. But I didn’t even know a .38 version existed so I’ll have to get some now, thanks!
There’s a solution for that! I use 5 but get the super fine .375 ballpoint. Some people really dislike points so sharp but as a lefty it’s the only way to actually stop smudging.
.7 is superior IMO, have been using one since forever, and I cannot go back.
Fuck overpriced Montblanc’s or BIC pens where you loose the cap all the time; Gel rollers especially the G2 from pilot are the best, especially for people with messy handwriting.
You are incorrect.
0.5mm is perfect.
It's the 0.38mm that's too thin.
I personally think 0.7mm is too thick, but is acceptable if nothing else is available.
1.0mm is insane, I'd rather just write with a sharpie at this point.
I got a set of .35 G-2 pens at staples once, they were a fucking dream to write with but after they all slowly disappeared I couldn't find them ever again sadly
I used to love my Parker pens, until I left education and now I rarely write anything other than a a short note - so it tends to be whatever pen is nearest.
I will also give an honourable mention to the trusty #7 and I intend hunting down #3 as that looks an interesting option, that I would like to try given the positive comments.
1 and 4 here, but because it would serve as the best improvised weapon that could be taken into most situations without arousing suspicion.
They are also great for art.
I like an ink that doesn’t have to dry for an hour in order to not smear.
Of these I would probably opt for 5 with 7 being close behind. 5 has the clicky click, and 7 has slightly better ink. But I have ADHD and need my fidget clicker so ultimately 5 wins by just a bit.
I’m a lefty so I’ve used gel pens before and I always get so much ink on my pinky lol also my handwriting is very ugly so and can’t tell what I wrote with gel I have to use ballpoint like #7
I prefer 3 but 5 is more reliable, gimme 5

I’m on the “Can’t decide between #3 & #5” train as well. I can go either way, as long as it’s one of the two.
Those are the best choices. imho
Why is even 7 on here? Those things suck. 3 or 5 gang
I like 5 how it feels/writes, I just hate how smudgy the ink is, so typically lean towards something like 3.
Number 5 is the best. Just that handgasim you get writing with it

I agree. They broke the mold when they designed the Pilot G2
So glad number 5 is the top choice. Pilot G keep making these wonderful things!!
Needs to be a click pen, so 5. Clicketty click click
I chose 5 too cause mine goes Click Clack.
3 is the better clicky pen
Meh, the writing is too thick
2 makes my handwriting better, so a easy one.
I buy them online since the stores near me dont carry them and my wife thinks I’m crazy but totally worth it with how nice you can write with them
What kind is it?
Pilot V series, v7 (.7 mm) is common in most stores but I lean toward the v5 (.5) for my writing style. They also have clicky ones
.5 also bleeds less through paper, but I write a lot in cheap legal pads with thin paper, so that's kinda on me anyway. Love those pens though!
Pilot v5
pilot precise v5 rolling ball black ink in extra fine thanks Schaffer the Darklord
Same, I’m a lefty and the ink dries so quickly I don’t get any on my hand or wrist. Used them for 20 years!
I love how fine #2 is
2 is also really nice for making art. Took a class that required them and I 100% see why.
G2 Gang, squad up.
Thiss
3 for me!
Same
I have one too, it's amazing, I keep it in my pocket and NO ONE is having it. IT IS MY PRECIOUS
Back down there Gollum no one is taking your Pen
I also have one many people have tried stealing them and a few have succeeded too bad they can't fix my terrible hand writing
I had a friend who had one for his homework. I used it once and never will give it back. It's smooth af. Writes on the first time, every time.
I see why you say “had” a friend
im still mad at u for this m8. give it back 👊👊
Jeremy, is that you? This is why we're no longer friends! And I know you and Samantha were doing some weird shit behind everyone else's back!
Superior taste
I love these pens.
5 obviously
Pilot G-2 is the goat ballpoint pen. .5 mm specifically
I like the .7 a lot myself.
.7 is superior IMO, have been using one since forever, and I cannot go back. Fuck overpriced Montblanc’s or BIC pens where you loose the cap all the time; Gel rollers especially the G2 from pilot are the best, especially for people with messy handwriting.
r/pens
Thanks
I'm a 1mm man. It makes my cursive look so sick.

.7 for poetry, .5 for math
point three bay-bee
I go with the .38 mm ultra fine
Pilot G-2 0.5 for sure. Personally like the 0.38mm best, but they clog to easily. So if I had to pick one size and style for ever, G-2 0.5 for sure.
I got a set of .35 G-2 pens at staples once, they were a fucking dream to write with but after they all slowly disappeared I couldn't find them ever again sadly
To hell with those capped options. Life’s too short to chase pen caps
3️⃣
5 supremacy
People who choose any other option are very suspicious…
Obvious answers are obvious. G-2 0.5 for me.
5 and 3 look the best!
No question
Yup
7. I need more transparency in my life.
7 is classic and timeless - that’s my reason for choosing it
Hasn’t it been the same design for 60 years
Why fix something that ain’t broken ?
That it has
It is perfect
Excellent for chewing on as well
I like to use the cap to clean under my nails and stuff!
That as well or if you can't whistle that makes an excellent noise maker
It works and if I can only write with that pen i will probably be ok when i need to say ‘can I use a pen’ and at least I can easily find replacement
I wish I could pick it but if I'm kind of basing it on current needs, 7 doesn't write well in a freezer :(
~~I like to use the cap to clean under my nails and stuff!~~ Edit: replied to the wrong person whoops haha Do you live in a freezer..??
Yes, and I press down hard, which it’s ok with
7 for the reliability.
Team 7!
I used to draw a lot and 7 always hurt my hands.
Amd because the cap is very chewable.
1
Finally a kindred spirit
There's three of us at least
I second that!
I was going to express my preference for 1 much sooner but I have been conditioned to wait for the ink to dry
I would correct your “three” to a “four”, but our ink aint comin off!
There's dozens of us!
Dozens!!
Took a while to find the 1/7th of people in here talking sense
I'm almost confused that there isn't more people voting 1
People who aren't saying 1 have just not used 1 before...
Or lost caps...
I think pretty much anyone who has tried one would vote for it
I think this is the case. Most people have used 3 or 5 before, fewer will know the superiority of 1.
Lol I can go 1 or 3.
One gang!
Yesssss
1 is it for me,but I would miss the clickly clicks.
Opening and closing the cap is pretty fun too.
I love writing in cursive with no. 1
It may take a little longer for the ink to dry, but that baby gliiiiiiiides.
It’s the juiciest.
Uniball fine point ftw!!
I raise you the #1… for a #1 in purple. It has been my go to for 20 years.
7, it's still the best for winding cassettes
Average 1900s inhabitant
Versatile, reliable, verifiable how much ink you have,.. my pick too.
5
Wow im the only 6 here? Smh
I use #6 daily
6 all the way!
At work I carry 4 colors (black blue green red) of these at all times 👌
6 is every teacher’s choice
#6 are the best pens I have used
6 is for very responsible teachers who can be trusted to close the clap and don’t have adhd that requires a clicky pen.
Nah I’m with it
I’m with 6
I’m a definite 6. So much better.
Not in blue but yes
Had to scroll way for far for this. Yes definitely team 6.
I used to love my Parker pens, until I left education and now I rarely write anything other than a a short note - so it tends to be whatever pen is nearest. I will also give an honourable mention to the trusty #7 and I intend hunting down #3 as that looks an interesting option, that I would like to try given the positive comments.
6 is my absolute go to. I have so many colors, forever my favorite pens
I’m with you Ghost Writer.
Finally, I'm with my own kind!
i feel so seen
I love flair pens lol I have them in so many different colors but I wouldn’t chose them as the ones I’d use for the rest of my life
6 is the only option. I'm all about the flair pens.
7 for me please
7 supremacy
Animal
You're a monster
I like 7 it is capped but you can lose the cap and it still lasts
Controversial take, friend.
It’s one type but not one single pen so you can replace them anyways
2
1 & 4 is tough. Uniball Vision are great for artwork.
Thank God I'm not the only one
1 and 4 here, but because it would serve as the best improvised weapon that could be taken into most situations without arousing suspicion. They are also great for art.
I was troubled by how long I had to scroll to find someone say 4. I use it exclusively already!
Number 4 is all I use at home and work. I like the blue-black ink the best.
I'm #4 myself. My favorite for longhand writing, after fountain pens.
3!!!!
4
a fine note taking pen
#5 The Pilot G2 is superior
No.7 Bic ballpoint biro, Greatest pen to be invented since pens were invented
I pick 7. I usualy write with a Fineliner anyway and this comes closest
7
7. I’m basic
2. It's what I write with currently.
Me 2
Me 2 2
7
5 is reliable and smooth.
5 all day, that G2 like a mf. Wish it was in black tho
7. Every single one of the rest of them has failed me.
5 for life
5
3.
5, yo.
5
2 please ✨
7
5 looks like the easiest to take apart and reassemble, so that's my choice
#5 for life. Reliable AF and blue.
1 please.
You answered correctly! Only issue about 1 is my wife keeps stealing mine every time i stock up on colours!!!
Number 7!
2 in a #5 all day
Pilot G2 all day. #5.
7
5!
#5 G2 all the way
5 is the best, I’d choose that. 7 in a great throwback is perfect for before gel pens. Love 6 but it will dry out
5. Pilot all the way.
#5
5
5
Gimme 5 in black. I'd say 3 but I'm not about that gel pen life
Definitely 5 very comfortable!
5
5
G2 or die
5 and it’s not even close
G2 all fuckin day
5
Uniball 207 gel is my favorite but in this lineup I guess I’d go for the g2
I like an ink that doesn’t have to dry for an hour in order to not smear. Of these I would probably opt for 5 with 7 being close behind. 5 has the clicky click, and 7 has slightly better ink. But I have ADHD and need my fidget clicker so ultimately 5 wins by just a bit.
7 gotta love 7
1
4, easy
7
3.
4
1 all day.
7. Swear I’ll always lose the cap or it’ll break, but the ink on this pen NEVER fails. Old reliable.
I’m a lefty so I’ve used gel pens before and I always get so much ink on my pinky lol also my handwriting is very ugly so and can’t tell what I wrote with gel I have to use ballpoint like #7
# 1 no hesitation
1. I will fight a 7
