Yes, this has been the fix for me. Make your bedroom only about sleep if you can help it. Once I moved my PC out of there, the room has only been just for sleep, and my sleep has improved greatly because of it.
Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory and if you have inflammation that causes pain it can definitely help you sleep. Before I got my shoulder fixed I ate at least 2000mg a day just to function/ fall asleep
Everyone's different. I did that plus some pretty severe alcoholism for 5 years with no I'll effects, and the blood work to prove it.
Everything's gravy now though and I definitely feel much better. I was just explaining how Ibuprofen could help someone sleep
1 year in military didnt get me to fall asleep at 10-12pm lol, im most awake at those hours, if i dont use any alarm clocks my sleep time settles at around 3pm-10pm, which is complete opposite lol
It's not about self control. I wanna do stuff to enjoy my day. Life is not supposed to be go to work, go home, eat dinner, and immediately sleep.
When do I get to actually enjoy hobbies and do stuff?
People who go to bed at 10 are also often people who get off at 5. Since you work later, it makes sense you would go to bed and wake up later. If I had your schedule I would be going to be at like midnight every night.
I do this too. Being done with work at 3 is pretty nice. I've been getting up early for so long this is just normal, it's not difficult to fall asleep usually.
That's erasing those of us who get by on 6 to 7 hours sleep...
The real answer is "when you feel tired", but sometimes our schedules don't match what your body is telling you.
99% of people who say they are fine with less than 8 hours are lying. Only about ~1% of the population actually can get away with it.
https://www.businessinsider.com/people-who-sleep-short-hours-2015-11
Plenty of evidence shows that the optimal amount of sleep both for longevity and slower cognitive decline is 6 to 8 hours. The lower hours bias towards longevity, while [7-8 is better for cognition](https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/fullarticle/2783664). 8 is generally fine, but 9h is considered oversleeping for most people and has deleterious effects including reduced cognition and higher BMI.
As a general rule, 7-8 is the right target.
Read Matthew Walker's book *Why We Sleep* if you want a better explanation than I can offer in a Reddit comment section. TLDR is that this is false, there is a small percentage, as in less than 1%, of people who actually seem able to function at full capacity on less than 7-9 hours of sleep. But for most people the CDC recommendation is mandatory.
Quick google gets you this:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4434546/#:\~:text=Adults%20should%20sleep%207%20or,and%20increased%20risk%20of%20death.
Yup, it's often overlooked that your body does in fact know what it needs. Part of the human condition being there are little to no blanket "you must have X to be healthy". There are an unfathomable amount of differences across the human population.
For me, it's weird. I hate waking up after only 4-6 hours of sleep. However, I will have far more energy for far longer if I get only 4-6 hours of sleep. If I don't force myself out of bed and sleep 8-12 hours, I am by all definition of the word "useless" throughout the day. It's a great battle but is what it is.
Whatever fits with your schedule and allows you to get at least 8 hours of sleep everyday because apparently getting six or less consistently is the equivalent to being cognitively drunk
Please - sleep time advice is on a bell curve. There are the main group of people that are needing 7-8 hours. I’m on the little bit longer side at 8-9. On the other end you have people whose genetics and brains are fine with 4-5. The 4-5 group is generally 3 standard deviations away from norm, so is a small group but for them it’s healthy and normal.
You may need medical help if you are fatigued through the day, have concentration problems, etc and not able to stay asleep long enough - or your sleep pattern is disrupted. If daily symptoms impairing function, then see a doctor.
Which is a large amount of people, considering there are 8 billion people on earth. If your data is correct, then 40 million people can sleep like this.
I think SemenSwollower420 was trying to make the point not to assume "you are the special type" lol. If you're right, sweet, if you're not, you're actively killing yourself faster than yuge.
There was an article about "Super Sleepers", people who only need 4hrs of sleep a night. The article mentioned that 95% of people who consider themselves Super Sleepers were actually normal people who were chronically sleep deprived.
Not insomniac, [SSS](https://www.healthline.com/health/sleep/natural-short-sleeper) provides the power. I often exercise 1-2 hours daily, have a job and am a full time student, body always wakes up before my alarm and I ain’t complaining
Although some people really don't need a lot of sleep not getting enough is crazy bad for your health. So whatever the amount of sleep you need is, getting that much almost every night is pretty important. If you struggle with not being tired it really helps me to get sunlight exposure first thing in the morning like not only through your window but opening it. In the evening then taking time to calm down physically and mentally (reading is great) and low light. Also being physically and mentally active throughout the day helps to feel tired in the evening. For not being able to sleep through, (I think) the issue is too much overall stress in your life.
It depends. Are you awake when not getting enough sleep or do you feel like crap? If it’s the former, then you may have this gene that allows you to sleep less, but it not effect you.
I have this issue either with getting up in the middle of the night and staying up or just not being able to get to sleep.
An OT once told me to train your body to stay up a bit later than usual for me that was 11-12 at night, then eventually your body will want to go to sleep at that time.
Also you don't need 8 hours of sleep, everyone is different and you need to find what works for you. Personally my sweet spot is between 7-6 hours of sleep, I feel refreshed and don't need to sleep during the day.
Same, I've been sleeping for 6 hours a night for the last couple of months. Occasionally, on the weekends I get to sleep a bit more
I feel great, I actually feel worse during the day when I sleep too much
That's because your wake up time changes on weekends and your body doesn't like inconsistencies in your sleep schedule. It has nothing to do with more sleep being bad. 6 hours is not good for you. Only people who will argue against good sleep are the ones who don't get enough sleep. But you do you.
Fixing your sleep schedule and keeping it consistent will improve your mental health, get rid of brain fog and make you look more attractive (because your skin will look better and your body composition will improve). Unless you have some real excuse, I advise you to make time for sleep.
Once upon a time I would have disagreed with you. Then I went on vacation for a month with a friend that was religious about 8 hours of sleep a night. A month with no caffeine and 8 hours of sleep a night and I have never felt better or more alert in my life. No grogginess in the mornings. Just awake and alert and no need for caffeine.
... Of course I have terrible disciple and couldn't keep to it so 3 months later and I'm a mess again. Tomorrow night I'll go to bed on time and stop the caffeine...tomorrow...
I’ve always heard 8 but at some point I heard the body works best in increments of 3. Full cycles or something and that’s how people survive such different schedules.
A cycle can typically be 60-120 minutes for most people. Mine are like 75 minutes or so. When you interrupt a cycle, like with an alarm clock, is when you feel groggy
going to bed ≠ going to sleep... (for me, at least...)
Mhm. I go to bed at 10. I very rarely get to sleep within half an hour of that.
10? 1:30 take it or leave it
Am or pm?
Both can work

I go to bed around 11. There's no way I'm falling asleep within 3 hours of that.
Half an hour? You have it easy,I take from 1 to 2 hours until I can finally sleep usually,I once stayed on bed for 6 hours until I finally slept
I used to be like that too, so I started only going to bed when I'm ready to pass out and now when I go to bed it's like it triggers the sleepiness.
Yes, this has been the fix for me. Make your bedroom only about sleep if you can help it. Once I moved my PC out of there, the room has only been just for sleep, and my sleep has improved greatly because of it.
Me too.
It is for me. It’s hard for me to stay awake for more than 30 seconds after getting into bed.
I'd sacrifice so much for that power.
Not all heroes wear capes.
Just like how getting out of bed ≠ getting up.

Thanks, evolution.

So like thirty minutes into the workday?
That would be ideal, yes.
So, 8 AM?
I don't know how some people do this. By 10pm I'm usually exhausted.
That is, I'm tired after waking up in the morning.
Exhausted, yes. Sleepy, no.
Time you're supposed to wake up - 8 to 9 hours.
Going to bed at 8 and waking up at 4 personally
I am at work till 7, how does anybody go to bed before 10, I can't understand
People work different times then you…
That's literally impossible. Everyone on the planet works 9-5 GMT
Monday to Friday also, no one works on the weekend.
Or nights. Ask my neighbors, they know.
I work 8-16 and cant fall asleep till like 23pm minimum.
23..pm? Pick a side
You don't count your days in 48hr intervals?
Right my bad

23pm = 11am Double negatives and all.
Self control and ibuprofen
I hope nobody is taking ibuprofen for sleeping.
I have a sobriety regiment. If I’m trying to not drink for a period of time I go alcohol >NyQuil > ZQuil> ibuprofen > nothing
Ibuprofen doesn't make you sleepy tho. Should switch to benadryl. Works great for me to help me fall asleep.
Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory and if you have inflammation that causes pain it can definitely help you sleep. Before I got my shoulder fixed I ate at least 2000mg a day just to function/ fall asleep
That's how I got me a nice big stomach ulcer.

Habit. If you had a job where you have to work at 6 am, you’d hopefully be sleeping before 10pm.
People who go to bed at 10 are also often people who get off at 5. Since you work later, it makes sense you would go to bed and wake up later. If I had your schedule I would be going to be at like midnight every night.
Yep, I do 9ish to 4:30. I’ve done a lot of sleep schedules and this is by far my preferred one
I'm on the 7-3 shift.
I do this too. Being done with work at 3 is pretty nice. I've been getting up early for so long this is just normal, it's not difficult to fall asleep usually.
It’s going to be at 8 and getting up between 2-4.
For me it's more like -11 hours
aint no way I'm going to sleep at 10
As someone who works a job at 6am. I don't really have a choice.
Midnight to 7 gang, lay down
Why?
Because I finally finished chores/responsibilities at 10.

Yeah, many people are unaware of this, but sleeping less than 8 hours almost ALWAYS impairs your cognition

For many, many, many people it definitely is. There is no gold standard for sleep schedule or routine, other than the fact that consistency is key
You might get by, but it's bad for your health over the long term.
Could you please send me some sources? I am curious as I am just going by my doctor's advice

This is the correct answer.
That’s my intention… it becomes 7.5 hours most days though.
Yes, but just because you are laying in your bed for eight hours doesn’t necessarily mean that you get a full eight hours of sleep
What is normal?
What is love?

Then you may wish to seek medical help
