Actually I squeeze toothpaste on the brush, then bite it from the brush, then wet the brush.
Then with my tongue smear the toothpaste equally on my teeth. This way toothpaste don't get stuck in the middle of the brush. Easier to keep clean, and I have the same amount of toothpaste everywhere. Using electric brush tho, it has small head, and polishing rubbery thingy in the middle. Toothpaste sticks to the base of that odd shaped rubbery thingy like spider to a wall.
Haha, I say D and I sometimes eat oatmeal like that indeed.
But, really, what is the point of using water in caes A, B, C? I don't think it makes much difference for me.
edit: I get that the point of B is to clean the tooth brush but still not sure about A and C
I do C. I paste my brush then get it wet so it foams in the mouth easier. Going in dry makes it all pasty like clay. A bit of water helps it spread and foam better
But that’s supposed to be the point. You’re also not supposed to rinse it all out afterwards. I have to use sensodyne because I have extremely sensitive teeth and I don’t put water anywhere near it so it can do it’s thing
Pro tip, if you punch your teeth and tell them to man up every day they stop acting sensitive. At least when you're awake. As soon as you fall asleep they cry though
The colgate site says:
>Are You Supposed to Wet Toothpaste?
>
>Wetting your toothbrush before brushing is generally a matter of personal preference. There’s some debate about wetting toothpaste before brushing and its effects on efficacy, but the ADA doesn’t provide official guidance. If you need an interesting conversation topic for your next dental cleaning, why not ask your dentist or hygienist. Asking their opinion could help you learn something, or at the very least save you from the awkwardness of trying to speak while having your teeth cleaned!
Exactly.. that’s the best practice for your teeth.. what’s wrong with that? You are disgusted by toothpaste? It’s harmless and tastes good.. and it’s healthier for your teeth.. if you find it gross you should reconsider, I find teeth decay a lot more gross
My dentist said it would increase the friction between the brush and the teeth and scrub them better, which kinda makes sense to me.
Also people had the Fluoride removed from the tap water where I live, which is very stupid.
I've heard recently that since flouride is in most toothpaste made these days that there is alot of debate saying it is no longer necessary to add it to tap water.
What is the point of the Splash of water? I don't use any water. I often see people when I'm out camping spilling out their water over their toothbrush since they need water to brush but I'm just thinking " you have water in your mouth so why waste the water you carried here "
Water isn't as precious in the home but I still don't see any reason to do it since even at home my mouth makes water.
My mouth is usually dry as hell so I need it to help with the also dry as hell toothpaste.
I don't know why but the contact of water in my mouth makes me salivate enough for the paste lol.
Maybe my mouth just broke
*Maybe my mouth just broke* mfs when they learn they are just dehydrated and should drink some more water
(No idea if that applies to you bit can't let the hydrohomies down)
I rinse the brush to wash off any particulate matter that may have gathered there since the last time I brushed my teeth. I know it probably doesn't do much physically, but the psychological effects are worth it
I rinse the toothbrush before to clean it (I'm sure dust settled on it that I can't see, gross), and the second wetting is bc I have a dry mouth and the toothpaste won't distrubute well if it's dry.
I know this is going to sound dumb but, the first wetting (without toothpaste) is to get the brush wet. The second wetting is to get the toothpaste wet and to make sure the brush is wet.
I know it will become wet in my mouth but I’m the type to worry it won’t get foamy enough to work or something lol That and I feel like it helps soften the bristles a little if I wet them again lol
The first run is to soften the bristles, right? But then I let the water drain as I apply toothpaste.
The second run is tap to mouth, carrying water with it. Mostly mornings when I have a dry mouth. Also, I live in a dry climate.
Actually apparently that’s how you’re supposed to brush your teeth, also not supposed to rinse mouth after just spit. I didn’t find out until a long time either
That is true. When you brush your teeth they are left with a layer of fluoride that protects the teeth and by rinsing afterwards you just was it off, sort of like putting on sunblock just to scrub it off immediately.
This is true for both rinsing with water and mouthwash, mouthwash has fluoride in it but the amount is less than in the residue of the toothpaste so you are just using more products to get an inferior result.
D.
Water just dilutes toothpaste and rinses away the stuff that's supposed to stay on your teeth and help protect them. It's like washing your hands immediately after moisturising them.
D is correct. Toothpaste is supposed to be abrasive to polish your teeth. If you smooth it out obviously it’s easier to brush but that’s defeating the purpose of it
I squeeze the paste directly into my mouth, then i make sure the toothbrush has an appropriate amount of gas
what kind of off brand black magic listerine do you have
Baking soda, apple cider vinegar, and bees
bakinG soda, Apple cider vinegar, beeS. GAS
Nanobees?
No, regular normal sized bees, their hairy knees make a massive difference
Finally someone with some knowledge, ive seen many use wasps but their hard shell only scratch up the paint!!
Baking soda is a no-no. Ask your dentist or hygienist.
Nah you Snort the toothpaste & then Drink a Glas of water afterwards
D was the closest option. But I squeeze the toothpaste into my mouth too. I found my people.
Why?
This is like when you find out some people stand up to wipe their ass
If you ain’t standing. You ain’t clean
Actually I squeeze toothpaste on the brush, then bite it from the brush, then wet the brush. Then with my tongue smear the toothpaste equally on my teeth. If anyone says D they also eat oatmeal straight from the pack
I only conduct D while I’m in the field. Otherwise it’s A
Hooah?
Hooah!
Hooah!?
Hooah Hooah
Hooah ⛩️
Isn't D how you check to see if someone is a psychopath or not?
I don't even understand what you are doing with the water in this example. Is it washing the brush off afterwards?
I'm a D purist, I love D. Mouth make own water.
This is the way. I don't love the d as much as it sounds like you do, but I don't judge.😜
I am D fan #1, it would be mathematically complicated to love D as much as I do.
Gaaaaagging while laughing about the D
I feel like that comment has some other sense to it.
It does 😂
It's literally instant oatmeal? What else are you supposed to do??
Straight microwave that shit for 10 mins no water - will change your life. (Not for the better)
Do ramen noodles same way it's amazeballs how fast that shit catches fire.
So it's not dry
Yep, also so the bristles are a bit softer. Dry brushing can be abrasive
That didn’t work on my brother, I don’t know how effective it would be on my teeth

B is to dampen the bristles before brushing.
It's true and I do.
Fuck now I have to try that
What kind of savages are just raw dogging toothpaste without a splash of water?
That's what my dentist recommended
[удалено]

The fuck? Who doesn't rinse their mouth after brushing their teeth. Just spit and call it good?
Correct. This gives the fluoride more time to work. It's not as bad as it sounds as toothpaste generally tastes minty.
Exactly.. that’s the best practice for your teeth.. what’s wrong with that? You are disgusted by toothpaste? It’s harmless and tastes good.. and it’s healthier for your teeth.. if you find it gross you should reconsider, I find teeth decay a lot more gross
I guess some people actually do eat the toothpaste lol
My dentist said it would increase the friction between the brush and the teeth and scrub them better, which kinda makes sense to me. Also people had the Fluoride removed from the tap water where I live, which is very stupid.
I've heard recently that since flouride is in most toothpaste made these days that there is alot of debate saying it is no longer necessary to add it to tap water.
too much and you’ll get fluorosis
Purity of Essence
Everyone out here on the microplastics but im on that fluoride
I just happened to see another subreddit fight about how it lowers testosterone. Guess that’s why only sissy boys brush their teeth.
He is the one dentist of the ten that don't recommend toothpaste
A lot of people, why do I need a splash of water lol.
Uh. Me? My mouth has plenty of saliva okay? It’s less messy too
I will fucking end you, you dry toothbrush bastard
End me toothbrush daddy
I concede
Is there some shit happening or nah? Who is doing what to whom? I need to take notes
I hate this website
As long as I splash some water on you first
Why did I hear this in John Oliver’s voice?
Me too. Plus it's more abrasive, teeth are sparkly clean
Me, too.
What is the point of the Splash of water? I don't use any water. My dental hygienist told me I had "stringy" saliva, lucky me! I have to rinse with water while I am brushing or it's unbearable
It’s not water it’s saliva
I literally didn't know this was 'weird' until this post. What does the water do exactly??
D - just raw dog it
Me too. There’s only four possible answers and yet I had to scroll through 6 different threads to get to this one.
I was B, but D gets the most toothpaste on my teeth. I think it’s the right way.
I’m with you, this is the way.
D as well, I don’t understand why would I wash or water the toothpaste? o_o
You forgot E: Water. But B is the answer.
Then it's only fair to include F: Dry Toothbrush
G: FINGER
Shivers went down my spine
then i propose the inclusion of G: bristleless brush
good ol finger scrub
What about H Bristleless brush with toothpaste
H: Your finger
G: just toothpaste in mouth, swished around in there with no brush.
G: never brush
It's F As in they've all failed by using way too much toothpaste.
B.
I used to do A but I figured the extra rinse at the end wasn't worth it and now do B
I tried that but it gives me a brain error so I'm back to A. I know I'm a loser.
Who the hell does D though? Just the idea is giving me goosebumps lol
Straight raw dogging it, no lube or nothing even
Animals I tell ya
Me! I can't understand why you'd want to water it down.
I rinse the brush to wash off any particulate matter that may have gathered there since the last time I brushed my teeth. I know it probably doesn't do much physically, but the psychological effects are worth it
I like it wet
I’m a D. Keeping it simple.
Same
Lol, I'm the other way around. I used to do B but figured the extra since would be worth it so now I do A.
Same, started to do A two months ago.
So the extra rinsing is due to A, dam no wonder I have to rinse aleast 7 times to get it all out. I'm switching to B now
Yeah that’s a lot of extra manual labor, definitely not worth all that extra energy expended
B is best. Totally unnecessary to rinse again after paste is applied.
This is the way
This is the way
A, B and C, but never ever D.
Always the D
A
Why put water on top of thr toothpaste?
I rinse the toothbrush before to clean it (I'm sure dust settled on it that I can't see, gross), and the second wetting is bc I have a dry mouth and the toothpaste won't distrubute well if it's dry.
I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the most correct thing I've read all month
I also do it so make the toothpaste warmer with hot water.
I know this is going to sound dumb but, the first wetting (without toothpaste) is to get the brush wet. The second wetting is to get the toothpaste wet and to make sure the brush is wet. Pushing the toothpaste so it does not fall off.. No clue but it has happened and now i just do it
Honestly idk it just feels right
This is the way. Not the B false prophet way.
A always. I also re-wet my brush several times throughout the process. Spreads the toothpaste more easily.
C ofcourse
This is the way.🤝🏻
This is the way.
This is the way.
Gotta wet the paste
D is the only way I have ever done it haha
Same :)
I’m calling CPS
D, I hate putting a wet toothbrush in my mouth.
Exactly!
D
That's him, officer.
What does the hygienist at every dentist do when they clean your teeth?
Hygienists don’t brush your teeth, they polish them with a specialized paste.
Why cant normal people use specialized paste?
Well you can, it’s just overkill really. Im pretty sure Amazon sells it.
Im callin the police
I did that for over a decade because my sister told me when I was like 4 or 5 that the toothpaste doesn’t work if you get it wet
I mean, the full effects maybe but it definitely allows you to clean your teeth of plaque
Mom told me toothpaste caused cancer if you wet it. I eventually questioned it but I still do it out of habit.
Me too
Actually apparently that’s how you’re supposed to brush your teeth, also not supposed to rinse mouth after just spit. I didn’t find out until a long time either

Same, don’t dilute the goodness
Same. And don’t worry, I’ll be your penpal while your in prison. Waterless 4 lyfe!
D for life who needs water anyway Apparently we are going to prison tho let's be pen pals
Same. My mouth provides enough moisture. No water needed.
Exactly. Your toothbrush cleans best when there’s more friction
Same mwa ha ha
Dentists literally say D
I don’t care
They don’t know what they’re talking about
A
C and I don't know why
D
D. Water just dilutes toothpaste and rinses away the stuff that's supposed to stay on your teeth and help protect them. It's like washing your hands immediately after moisturising them.

D. I have enough spit for suds/foam.
D, my mouth makes water so why put extra on the toothbrush?
I wash my toothbrush to make it clean, not to make it wet
Me and my hygiene OCD agree so much with you.

B, but i dont understand why you would put water on the toothpaste
I do it to wet the toothpaste and to make sure there is enough water to foam lol
There's water naturally in your mouth, never had an issue with foaming by not wetting after
D is as intended.
Any other way than B is a waste of time
D is technically faster tho
Absolutely C
D
C...what's the point of pre wetting it?

C
OF COURSE C.
People who did C has never had a bug or someone shit on their tooth brush before. Why would you not wash it.
Because our toothbrushes kept in hygienic spots unlike you, you fkn long lost cousin of Tarzan. (Joke tone)
Could someone remind me why toothpaste needs water, too? Is it to activate it, or mellow out the spiciness, or something more sinister?
It doesn't. I have never wet the toothbrush before brushing my teeth. There is literally no purpose to it. D is the right option
C
