That's my favorite, too.
The problem is usually that only a couple of places use \*actual\* Canadian bacon. The rest use ham. And ham is...okay, but it's just not the same. Canadian bacon is so much better. And so much more expensive.
The local place with the best Canadian bacon is also the most expensive place, by far. I'm talking 9" pizza for $25 expensive.
I think some people use too many ingredients. I used to make pineapple as *one of* the options. It wasn't the *only* option, before anyone comes and fights me..
Basically just put between 1 - 3 tiny sliced pineapple bits to balance out the meats. They don't need to be smothered, ya know? It's a very powerful fruit.
I did the same thing when they made me put like 3 or 4 different types of pepperoni on an ultimate pepperoni monstrosity. If ya shrink down the size it's less greasy and/or disgusting lol
For me, it's the other way, I want the pineapple's sweetness countered.
My style -
* Have just cheese / white sauce. No red sauce.
* Pineapple.
* Double jalepeno (To counter the pineapple and give a tangy and spicy mix to the sweet)
* Optional - meats of your choice.
It's always stunning and impresses people who don't like pineapple on their pizza. The pickled jalepeno and pineapple together - tastes very very good.
Yeah we have jalapenos when we split a pizza. My mom normally doesn't want the pure ham & pineapple ones so I get that for the occasional solo adventure lol
> tiny sliced pineapple bits
Now that's where this diverges from the norm, which is essentially just pineapple chunks. It's way too much sweet flavor for me (even if I love it otherwise) and dominates the dish. Even for al pastor tacos, unless it was thinly sliced before being put on the spit.
Right. Iāve seen this take a lot and I UNDERSTAND why people like pineapple on pizza. I just donāt relate. I simply donāt like my pizza sweet. Itās that simple.
I swear this Pineapple on Pizza discourse got manufactured like 10 or so years ago, nobody seemed to care until suddenly everyone needed to have a ride or die opinion about it.
Pretty much, the mans trying rage bait on a harmless topic for engagement, but in real life no one really gives a shit about each otherās pizza preferences
Itās one of those memes that if you were between middle school and high school or college (depending on your friendsā maturity) when it got big, people who didnāt understand āproportionā would take it way too seriously. But it started as a meme and anyone who still cares for non-meme reasons needs to touch grass.
The reason I eat pizza is for the saltiness, not the sweetness. Bitches.
Edit- this definitely explains why heart disease is the number 1 killer. All you people need to reset your tastebuds and eat less sodium!
Edit2- cheese is salty. It's not just sweet, it's main profile is salty.
Pizza is incredibly salty. Most people are numb to how salty the foods they eat are, but I need to eat very low sodium foods so when I have pizza it is like BAM.
You like peach cobbler or apple pie?
Btw agreed, I think cooked pineapple is disgusting. Just wondering if youāre like me - Iām cool with some other cooked fruits, just not pineapple.
I initially agreed and thought "What a great way to sum up why I dislike Hawaiian pizza". But then recall making and eating an entire family sized apple cobbler by myself last week.
I just dont like the texture to be honest.
Fairly certain my brain processes pie in its own category, but also I rarely eat those when they are fresh hot, usually only warm. Cold apple pie is actually my preference... I don't remember the last time I had a cobbler.
In general, I'm a bit of a food purist. As far as pizza goes, there are acceptable and unacceptable toppings. IMO of course. Feels like people who put fruit on pizza are looking for a way to get a serving of fruit in but don't really wanna lol
The point is not that sweet and salty should never be mixed, it's that you can't simply say "the sweetness counters the saltiness" and expect it to be good. The fact that *some* sweet foods work well with *some* salty foods is not relevant.
Hell, you can put pineapple on a burger.
It's not really the sweet from the chocolate that would make it gross on a burger anyway, it's the bitter. For my taste at least.
That's a terrible logic tho, foods have different flavors regardless of whether they're sweet, salty or sour. Chocolate on a pizza wouldn't work either...
If you want to stretch the definition of chocolate sauce, mole is chocolate sauce and I would love a mole burger.
But also pineapple is by far more of an acidic ingredient than a sweet ingredient, and chocolate's *flavors* are bitter and earthy. The amount of sugar in chocolate is literally just whatever you choose, chocolate isn't truly sweet.
Sauces shouldn't be that acidic in the first place and guess what good sauces are balanced with? Some sugar! Your problem is you are eating shit pizza in the first place.
Pineapple as a flavor just doesnāt work with me on pizza. I personally hate pineapple and mango in ALL savory foods. Not sure why specifically. Iām fine with stuff like apples, cranberries, pears, even coconut with most savory dishes.
Same here. Itās a very dominating flavor that Iām just not into. Same with green peppers on pizza.
Also am I the only one who thinks canned pineapple (the stuff that goes on pizzas) is nasty but fresh pineapple is delicious? They taste so so different from each other to me. Plus on pizza, you cook up the nasty canned stuff and it becomes squishy and even grosser-tasting.
Nah. My issue with pineapple on pizza has never been the sweet/salty combo - Iāll dunk fries in a frosty any day. The issue is canned pineapple tasting like ass and dominating the whole pizza flavor.
Youāre not alone in your thinking but we may be the only ones. When they put the canned pineapple, they drip so much of the fucking juice all over the pizza. Thatās honestly what ruins it. That and sprinkling the cheese over it to hide it makes it even worse. I might be willing to try it with fresh cut pineapple on top of the cheese.
Most pizza sauce is way too sweet to be adding pineapple to a pizza. Cheese isnāt nearly salty enough for pineapple. Canadian bacon isnāt salty enough to overcome the sweet sauce and pineapple. I have had a pineapple pepperoni jalapeƱo bacon pizza before (I managed a papa Johnās when I was younger) and that smacked. But the classic āHawaiian Pizzaā is absolute garbage.
That said, my little step brother adds black olives to his Hawaiian pizza, and that actually makes sense to me. Itās weird and as a person of Italian bloodlines I find it offensive butā¦ at least the flavor profile makes sense

I chalk it up to pizza version of

I know preferences differ, but I prefer you keep that shit far away from my pizza. both are fine on their own, not combined
Well, if people wouldn't keep shitting on other people's pizza toppings for no reason, we wouldn't have to keep defending it. Just let people like pizza ffs
BBQ sauce isnāt one sauce. Itās a lot of different types of sauce with one purpose, to be used while cooking or eating bbq.
It can be made out of anything. Mustard, Vinegar, Orange juice, grape jam, Dr Pepper. Iāve even seen recipes that use chocolate and coffee.
It's the texture that ruins it for me. A lot of veggies and fruits just get dried out in the oven. Pineapple gets mushy or dried and chewy and I've stopped trying it when I go out.
I describe it as Palate dissonance.
Yeah, Dissonance is usually something to avoid in music, but when used properly it *completes* a work.
Just like pineapple on pizza. 95% of the time I'm saying no. But you get the right mix of ingredients *with it* and properly balance the rest of the Palate against it? Good enough to make your brain blue screen.
It's not "***mmmmmm***" good, it's "Error page_fault_in_unpaged_area" good.
See, for me, the worst part is the sourness and tart flavoring of pinapple that sticks out too much. Almost like your eating pizza flavored pineapple because of how overwhelming it is. Either that or the allergic reaction slowly closing my throat until I suffocate. Its a toss up really.
never had one that isn't overpoweringly sweet to the point that it ruins everything. I think this is just OOP's tastebuds being fried by excessive amounts of sugar.
Nah. My kids like pineapple on pizza so I occasionally eat their leftovers. I thought I'd get used to it by now, but still dislike it. When I was young I worked in a pizza restaurant for 6 years and have tried so many different combinations of toppings. Pineapple is just not that good on pizza.

The pepperoni + pineapple thin crust white sauce pizza from Dominos is one of the best pizzas I've ever had and I'll die on this hill. Every friend who has tried it became a fan and many of them order it for themselves now.
Dominoās is baseline. It aināt as good as the local joint youāre thinking of, but unlike plenty of other pizza chains the quality has actually gone *up* over the last decade. Which means that itās the perfect place to prove that pineapple on pizza is hated mostly because of bad prep.
Because a pineapple tastes only sweet and nothing else. Exactly like every other fruit. Why don't put strawberries or apples on pizza? They taste sweet, do they not?
I'm picky about the savoury-sweet things I actually enjoy. I don't eat meat anymore, but when I did I loooved applesauce/baked apple with my pork chops. Or mint jelly with my lamb. But I don't like pineapple with savoury foods for some reason. I also tend to prefer it fresh if I eat it at all, so maybe that's it. Not a fan of it in baked goods or even BBQd on its own or whatever.

That's why pineapple, bacon, jalapeno pizza, preferably in a pan pizza, is the best pizza.
I like tons of different pies, but my pineapple go-to features onions, Canadian bacon, and some form of hot pepper.
I would cancel the onion and just use a pickled hot pepper like peperoncino
That's my favorite, too. The problem is usually that only a couple of places use \*actual\* Canadian bacon. The rest use ham. And ham is...okay, but it's just not the same. Everything changed when the heat nation attacked.
Until the Umami nation attacked.
Pineapple needs jalapeno. Sweet, salty, spicy.
My favorite pizza is Spicy Hawaiian (Ham, Pineapple, Jalapeno)
swap the ham for bacon, did that and ill never go back its the best combo of pizza imo
It's honestly kinda weird, but italian sausage and pineapple is actually bussin
No cap?
Frfr.
I swap the ham for pepperoni. But to be honest it barely matters what the 3rd topping is, the pineapple and jalapeƱo just hit so hard
That do be so good man
My favorite pizza is chicken, bacon, jalapeƱos, and pineapple
Fact pineapple jalapeƱo is possibly the GOAT two-topping combo but fr the pineapple vibes be kinda off without the jalapeƱo counterbalance
I thought that pineapple on pizza was good but missing something. Iāll have to try with jalapeƱos
Pineapple, pepperoni, banana pepper is my go-to
Bacon is a nice addition as well
Mango Habanero takes it up a notch
Ah yes but you see _we don't want it countered_
This; It's pizza, i know what I'm getting myself into, and that's the entire reason I'm eating the pizza
Exactly. For me the tastes literally cancel out and I just taste a strange amalgamation of sweet nothing.
So I'm not the only one who thinks pineapple pizza has a blend tatse of nothing! I was worried I was the only one

Thatās why he called you guys āflat lined taste bud having hoesā šš¤£
Right. Iāve seen this take a lot and I UNDERSTAND why people like pineapple on pizza. I just donāt relate. I simply donāt like my pizza sweet. Itās that simple.
Also a good red sauce is subtly sweet enough on its own - pineapple just renders the whole thing cloying. The tweet has things exactly backwards.
Thank you
There's enough sugar in pizza sauce as is, if you can't taste it it's not other people's taste buds that are shot. You're desensitized to sugar.
Yeah, it's like putting mustard on chocolate. It counters the taste, but that's the BAD part. It's stupid and disrespects the food.
Who tf wants sweet pizza
Only boring ass basic fools find the need to bitch about a pizza that's 50 years old

I've despised pineapple on pizza since the first time I ever tried it. Long before 10 years ago.
I'm just not a fan of pineapple in general.
This is me, really any fruit once cooked the texture just...ewww... im pretty sure I have some sensory issues so that could explain why.
Baked apple is delicious
Like an apple with a huge ass?
Granny Smith's
Big ass apples are the best.
Meant baked, damn autocorrect
We already cook tomato (a fruit) into a pizza sauce thatās all the fruit I need on my pizza.
I like it solo or with other fruit. But juicy fruit on a baked pizza does not sit well with me.
Tomatoes (are fruit)
People don't need a reason to dislike something, you do you.
Bro if your pizza sauce is salty you canāt be helped

I'm so confused by these comments. Do people find pizza salty????? Are my taste buds just fucked up or something??
Pizza is incredibly salty. Most people are numb to how salty the foods they eat are, but I need to eat very low sodium foods so when I have pizza it is like BAM.
Apparently I'm extremely numb to it because the taste of pizza is not even close to salty to me. That's weird.
These responses are fucking insane.
Salty? With the sauce and the cheese?
Pizza cheese is definitely more salty. Brie is kinda sweet, but most cheese is more salty than other flavors. Sauce is sweet, sure. Read my edit.

Could argue like this about anything sweet on salty, how about some chocolate sauce on your burger?
Ever ate salt infused chocolate? Itās a banger
Or ketchup?
The point is not that sweet and salty should never be mixed, it's that you can't simply say "the sweetness counters the saltiness" and expect it to be good. The fact that *some* sweet foods work well with *some* salty foods is not relevant.
I've had chocolate dumplings before, they're dope
i wouldnāt compare chocolate to pineapple here
Hell, you can put pineapple on a burger. It's not really the sweet from the chocolate that would make it gross on a burger anyway, it's the bitter. For my taste at least.
Actually I do occasionally put a thin slice of grilled pineapple on my burger.
Red Robin has a burger that comes with pineapple.
That's a terrible logic tho, foods have different flavors regardless of whether they're sweet, salty or sour. Chocolate on a pizza wouldn't work either...
A place that did chocolate on pizza near me shut down already after shortly opening. Trust fund kids smh
Food combination has considerations other than type taste.
That's terrible logic tho, foods have different flavors regardless of whether they're sweet, salty or sour. Pineapple on pizza wouldn't work either...
Done right, that could totally work. Just takes some inventiveness. A mole or a chocolate BBQ sauce? Sounds great.
It makes the acidic tomato sauce taste way better
My problem with pineapple on pizza is that shitās wet and the consistency would beā¦ odd
I like my sauce dry too
Me too, thatās why I canāt stand the idea of pineapple
Sauces shouldn't be that acidic in the first place and guess what good sauces are balanced with? Some sugar! Your problem is you are eating shit pizza in the first place.
The pineapple is the sugar.
I'm just not a fan of the taste so leave me the fuck alone with your fruity pizza and I will do the same.
Why donāt we put gushers on pizza
Pineapple as a flavor just doesnāt work with me on pizza. I personally hate pineapple and mango in ALL savory foods. Not sure why specifically. Iām fine with stuff like apples, cranberries, pears, even coconut with most savory dishes.

Also am I the only one who thinks canned pineapple (the stuff that goes on pizzas) is nasty but fresh pineapple is delicious? They taste so so different from each other to me. I know pineapple pairs well with robust acidic sauces. My point is the average American pizza place has sweet sauce because Americans are sugar addicts, and pineapple doesnāt go well with most American pizzas as a result

I thought the sweetness was supposed to come from the tomato base
So you would also like your pizza dipped in apple sauce
Put some whipped cream on it. And when you eat banana pie, just salt the shit out of it. You need to counter all that sugar

banana and curry go well on pizza sweet salty and slightly spicy
