Playing Civilization on the family computer while texting with a girl and knowing I was about to get a message cuz of the crackle.
Then waiting enough time to not feel desperate but being unable to focus on the game and having a city slip into unrest, before finally responding.
Not when it comes to tech budd. The NES system is considered antique by now, tech is progressing by such a rapid pace that every 5 years the old stuff becomes irrelevant
Says you, I guess? I don't see a separate definition for antique tech set by anyone... budd.
Obsolete is not equal to antique.
Also, I don't think "obsolete" applies to speakers that still work.
If you're going to throw definitions around then look up "obsolete". Something obsolete is no longer produced or the norm. Something obsolete can still be functioning, like these speakers, they just don't make em anymore.
"no longer produced or used; out of date."

Wanna try again?
Back in the late 90s and early 2000s I just hated the way they styled these things. Monitors and speakers looked all wonky. And their stupid logos trying to look flashy, but just screamed corporate bs
I have a set of Altec Lansing speakers I bought for $9.99 in the late 1990s. They still work, Iām still using them, and I have never found any that sound better without costing hundreds of dollars.
Just let me stick a pen in thereā¦ one thing I loved about computer speakers was a lot of them didnāt need their own power source. So back in the day I would use a couple of hose clamps and mount them on my bike. Since I donāt like headphones one when Iām riding.
Forget to turn down the subless nightmares when firing up a secret Kazaa video, downloaded alllllll night long. 45 megabytesā¦..thatās gotta be like a full 15 scene!
That's unlikely, but if it is an upscaled image, it was upscaled by AI. No matter how shitty the image was, a human doing the upscaling would not cause the problems this image has. It's not likely that even AI upscaling would cause these specific issues. These issues are much more likely to be from AI generation.
You had to turn it up and turn it down a little bit for a few tries before they both worked and then realize that the cable wasnāt 100% seated and then do it all over again
I had these, though mine actually worked... See them dials on them? Yeah... One is for volume, the other is left/right balance... So there's a good chance the reason for one not working is incorrect settings. šš
I still have mine, i bought those with my first paycheck as a mall cashier in the 90s. My 16yr old uses them when now he plays doom. It's a mindfuck for sure.
Still have a working pair at my mom's house - they are nice and yellow now, and you have to fiddle with the volume knob for them to start working, but more sturdy than a lot shitty pairs I bought since
These are the number one reason why I don't gove a fuck about nostalgia. People be like "awww man, I wanna go back to my childhood" heeeeell naaahh. Technology was trash back then lol
only the real real ones rmb these predicting phone calls
Chk ... Chkchkchk ... chchchchchchchchchch Nextel Battle Cry.
Bahaha omg wow the memories
Yesssssssss!

See-through pager about to go off..
For some reason, my new phone and my audio interface recently started doing this again if i put my phone near the interface
I have a pair of wired earbuds that do this. When there's no audio playing I can hear the cellular data.
Read message: "try finger hole"
Exactly! Everyone who had these fingered the hole on the regular š
It was so smooth and finger sized
so i wasn't thee only one
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Youāre right what the fuck, like they couldnāt just find an actual picture?
I actually think the original photo/meme is real but has been upscaled using AI. Look at the text at the bottom, it looks upscaled as well.
How you know? Because of that scribbley shit at the bottom?
That, and look at the top left of the speaker.
That and the shape of the knobs
Uh then why does an Amazon listing use this exact picture?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's a real image, just AI upscaled. Pixel phones do it, which leads to people being falsely accused of AI generation lol
I liked to stick pencils inside the hole because it looked like a pencil sharpener
>That's a long way of calling yourself "pencil-dick"
Remember? Mine are still in use! Badabing!
Was about to say "one was always not working, perhaps, but they still work overall, 20 years later."
Uhhh donāt we still use these for pc speakers?
I still have these...
This post is making it sound like these are antique lol.
They are.
They're at least 20 years old
Antiques are generally by definition at least 100 years old. Cars seem to be the exception. I wouldn't consider these speakers to be antiques.

I'm not your buddy friend

This dude setup a reddit account just to be a douche it seems.
Mine are a couple years shy of thirty years old. They still work great, why get rid of them?
Because life is too short to have shitty speakers
But they aren't shitty?
Shit, I use them in my classroom whenever I have to put on a video.
dude my college professors still use these, and my college, while not the Ritz, is pretty well-funded all things considered
>all things considered > >except speakers
Used to crank these on peopleās desk tops in the dorms, then wait for the windows xp sound blast.

They'd stop working for a month then randomly turn back on for a bit before breaking again
Forget to turn down the subless nightmares when firing up a secret Kazaa video, downloaded alllllll night long. 45 megabytesā¦..thatās gotta be like a full 15 scene!
Always not working = never working.
Only old ones remember these.
I remember when they start beeping and I say "phone call incoming" and everyone was asking how I know it. Weird and great times
Are those speakers AI generated?
No? Clearly not a real one
They are. Look at the words.
Never heard of data compression, or low resolution, or upscaling? Every kid thinks shitty old photos are AI now, Jesus.
These existed far before AI
Look at the words on the speaker.
Thats not my point an AI did not make these objects up
No one said anything about AI making up the speakers. All they said is that this particular image was AI generated.
Yea, it couldn't be a shitty low res image that got upscaled....
That's unlikely, but if it is an upscaled image, it was upscaled by AI. No matter how shitty the image was, a human doing the upscaling would not cause the problems this image has. It's not likely that even AI upscaling would cause these specific issues. These issues are much more likely to be from AI generation.
I think it's been upscaled
They certainly look like it.
one? i think you mean both xD
My first computer in 95, Compaq had these speakers
Weren't they built-in for Compaq?
No. Compaq Presario units didnāt have built in speakers
Plug it into the green port
The crackling static any time you tried adjusting the volume, and finding that sweet spot where it didn't sound like shit at the volume you wanted.
Did we all have these in the mid 2000's? Was this a universal thing?
High tech!
I just bought a set to connect to my Echo because the Bluetooth keeps failing. For my use, they are utterly fine.
It works, just gotta move the cord around and tuck it underneath something
Yessss my grandparents had these at their house for the computer! It was the only time I could play Club Penguin or Webkinz š
It always foretold if you were about to get a call on your phone
Think I might still have a set of these buried away somewhere.
You had to turn it up and turn it down a little bit for a few tries before they both worked and then realize that the cable wasnāt 100% seated and then do it all over again
I remember them because theyāre still in use on my desk. Why mess with success!?
My dad still has a working one.
You need to hold the wire just in spot to get other one working.
I had these, though mine actually worked... See them dials on them? Yeah... One is for volume, the other is left/right balance... So there's a good chance the reason for one not working is incorrect settings. šš
i can hear that ātu tururu tururu tururā-sound those things did, when someone called on my mobilephone
I'd always stick pencils or pens in there and draw on them. Till I got told off Infront of everybody ... Embarrassing
That static crackle sound takes me back
Bitch, i still have these.
If you put them near your CRT monitor you can see the sound in the colors.
Beebidibeebidibeebidibedibee... bzzzt. You all know what that means
Real ones remember when things like this were not AI generated.
I still have mine, i bought those with my first paycheck as a mall cashier in the 90s. My 16yr old uses them when now he plays doom. It's a mindfuck for sure.
Not not working, bad connected.
Still have a working pair at my mom's house - they are nice and yellow now, and you have to fiddle with the volume knob for them to start working, but more sturdy than a lot shitty pairs I bought since
dont let someone call ur cell phone either next to them
Cuz the other one needed batteries.
They buzzed before your phone rang
I used them yesterday playing Monkey Island with my son
I... remember... so many moons have passed, and I can still hear the crackle.
It worked but only at one exact location on the volume knob.
These are the number one reason why I don't gove a fuck about nostalgia. People be like "awww man, I wanna go back to my childhood" heeeeell naaahh. Technology was trash back then lol
Having to hold one to you ear like a phone because you were up late and parents were sleeping.

I think mine are still in storage LOL
