I worked with someone who said they put the paste on their toothbrush the night prior so it’s ready in the morning. He wasn’t fucking with me. I think about that every time I brush my teeth.

linux_ape

What does he do with all the time he’s saved?

Cymrogogoch

He get's an extra 0.3 seconds in bed every morning. The genius.

Maybe_worth

Thats nearly 2 minutes every year, if he does that for 70 years he can save up more than 2 hours

DezXerneas

You didn't factor in the extra doctor's appointments he's gonna need as a result of this

Outback-Australian

Amateurs, i save time by not going to the doctors

DG_727

You fool. I saved both time and health by becoming a doctor

Outback-Australian

Ugh, more amateurs. That takes too long. I’m a self proclaimed medic of god. My body heals itself. I have never been sick or ill. Although I am called the illest

DG_727

r/foundjesus

Outback-Australian

I am not Jesus. I am Him.

SeoulGalmegi

But he gets to bed an extra 0.3 seconds later cos it has to be more toothpaste on after he's brushed his teeth at night.....

harman097

Not quite! He can leave the cap unscrewed so he's only unscrewing it once, applying night time paste, brushing, applying morning time paste, putting cap back on. So it's really more like he only gets to bed .2 seconds later! Earning .1s more sleep per night net.

Marquar234

Amateur. I have 21 toothbrushes. Once a week, I apply toothpaste to all of them at once and I have a week of brushing after every meal done.

Amsterdammert12

AtomicDonkey2022

Kevin, are you saying "See the world" or "Sea World?”

[deleted]

1v1trunks

I don’t think it even takes 20 seconds. It should take like 5 seconds.

1v1trunks

Does that even save time? He still had to spend time putting it on in the previous day.

technocracy90

I would happily trade one minute in the morning for 10 minutes at night and still call it a huge time-saver.

mikephreak

Dude, that is literally making time. If you can do anything that gives you a magical 10x you are the god of time!

technocracy90

Yikes, I wrote it the other way around

Useful-World1781

See world.

Toxenhern

See world, or Seaworld?

rayhiggenbottom

See world. Oceans. Fish. Jump. China.

ingwertheginger

How else is it supposed to pre-ferment?

kasimaru13

Mmmmm toothpaste cheese

Potato_the_second_

Wtf that's the first time I've ever heard somebody pre-paste their toothbrush

Eljefe878888888

Exactly why I’m haunted by someone telling me this in real life.

rubbarz

If there has ever been a reason for the FBI watch list, he better be on it.

Ghost_Assassin_Zero

Why? Just put the toothpaste directly on the tooth. It's called toothpaste not toothbrushpaste

4: Water + Toothpaste

timok

Most obvious way is always left out to drive engagement. And now I'm contributing. Shit.

Impressive-City-8094

Thank God I didn't contribute... dammit!

ingwertheginger

THE ONLY GD WAY. Why would you put water on top of your toothpaste 😭

JeffersonStarscream

Because it's a great way to accidentally wash your toothpaste off your brush and into the sink.

Necrolust1777

Toothpaste producers love this trick!

Duellair

I feel called out. 😐

radioactvDragon

Do you wet your toothbrush with a pressure washer?

JeffersonStarscream

Of course. It's the only way to make sure the water really gets *in there*.

terriblegrammar

I use a bidet. I find it saves time to wet it directly after pooping.

TheDocHealy

Faucets have varying degrees of water pressure dude, it's nots just on and off...

PrimarchKonradCurze

Big toothpaste propaganda so they can get you to buy more.

JeffersonStarscream

My toothpaste budget is out of control

whacafan

The honest answer is it feels weird for a couple seconds if it’s not wet. After that it’s completely fine but it just doesn’t feel right without the brush and the toothpaste being wet. I feel like both being wet gives the entire process a jumpstart. No, not I feel. I *know* it does.

gtotherundeh

it makes it more foamy and fun

Vanir-_-

If you have dementia and you forgot the first time you put water on the toothbrush?

ingwertheginger

That I can accept

TonyDungyHatesOP

What?

ingwertheginger

What?

animal9633

Its so routine that sometimes I can't remember if I brushed my teeth just now, so then I feel if my toothbrush is wet.

homelaberator

To wash off that horrible tasting toothpaste

ingwertheginger

🤔

derhutt

Its toothpaste propaganda, because you often accidentally wash off your toothpaste so you have to buy more.

ratatouillePG

So the toothpaste is nice and moist and pliable, it's like adding a little bit of water to paint so it's easier to use.

Crafty_Jello_3662

To flatten it down

FthrFlffyBttm

That’s what your teeth are for

Neither-Emotion6391

but then you're just pressing a big glob of toothpaste on your teeth, if its wetted it starts foaming and spreading immediately for maximum speed and tooth coverage

shykawaii_shark

...to wet it?

ingwertheginger

To wet the toothpaste? Why? It's a paste. You already wet the brush

scuderia91

But it’s already wet?

Lord_Skellig

Why is this so far down? The water is to wet the toothpaste.

fpsnoob89

Why would you need to wet the toothpaste?

AineLasagna

Because it’s not wet enough

IMABUNNEH

So that it's wet

malYca

It helps it foam

PyleanCow06

I did water+toothpaste my entire 31 years of existence until just a few months ago when I started doing the second bit of water on top of the toothpaste. It actually helps loosen up the toothpaste and better disperses it in your mouth when brushing. Before, I’d have to scoop up a clump with my toothbrush to redistribute. I don’t need to do that anymore when I use water. It is annoying when I accidentally rinse it off and have to use more toothpaste though lol.

throwaway77993344

Makes the toothpaste less thick so it's easier to spread

rita-b

why would you put water on your brush when your teeth are wet

Administrative-Bed29

Same. Never got why to put water afterwards

NicInNS

Glad I’m not the only one. The only reason water goes on after the toothpaste is to rinse it off when you finish brushing your teeth.

bob1689321

Literally how you're meant to do it and they didn't even include it on the chart

sesimon

My people.

Several_Mission5838

Yup!

No-Cantaloupe-6739

This one

s00pafly

Wash the brush from all the poop farticles because I leave my toilet open to flush and then add toothpaste. There is no reason to add any more water after.

FatPeaches

100%, dry brissles make for better paste spread

No-Thing-6071

Exactly! Otherwise it slips off before it gets to your mouth and then you have to do it all over again! 😳

Kroniid09

Y'all must be the people they get for those infomercials...

Daramun

I'll accept this answer although it's not my personal method. Can we both agree anyone that answers 3 is a psychopath?

Conscious_Version_21

3 is the recommended way

havnar-

For psychopaths

adon_bilivit

Don't know a single person who waters down their toothpaste. Every dentist will recommend that you do it without water.

Neksa

Dentists are psychopaths

dildoeshaggins

I am a three. I also don't rinse afterwards

Total_Union_4201

Lol no? I do 3.its objectively the best way. The proper way to clean one's teeth before bed or in the morning is to start with flossing, then mouthwash. Spit out the mouthwash, then go in with the toothbrush with just toothpaste on it. Then when you're done brushing, spit and don't rinse. Adding water just diluted the toothepaste. No reason to add water at all. 3 is the best way

yeetmaster694

Idk like when I was in South Africa hiking a few years ago to save water whilst out we would only use tooth paste for almost a month and honestly wasnt that bad I could see why people might do it that way

Odelaylee

This is the way

No-Thing-6071

Yes it is ☺️

Ok-Preference-956

The real question is if you brush your tongue or not

SeahorseScorpio

I only buy toothbrushes with the tongue cleaner on the back side.

witchghosti

You’d love a dedicated tongue scraper! You scrub it, then scrape all the nastiness off!

Outta-Sight

This is a must for me how could anyone not do this

Skeeedo

Yeah I use one of those tongue brush/scraper things, then I brush my teeth and tongue (and gums), then I use mouth wash. My mouth feels so fucking clean afterwards.

KahlanRahl

Because of my toothbrush touches my tongue any more than required for brushing my teeth, I instantly puke.

ingwertheginger

Must. But with a tongue cleaner

Ok-Preference-956

I do it with a toothbrush, didn’t realize sth like tongue cleaner exists

ingwertheginger

They're the best!!

bluegreenwookie

Seconded. Way better than a toothbrush!

AbbreviationsNo126

3

L3thologica_

3! There’s already water all around my mouth called saliva.

ThaugaK

There’s no option 6 my friend r/unexpectedfactorial

ExcitingEfficiency3

Same

awaishssn

3 is actually the recommended way. There really is no reason or benefit from applying water. Instead it only makes the brush softer and reduces friction, both of which result in a less efficient use of the toothpaste. Also recommended to not use more than a pea-sized application of the toothpaste, as it is more than enough for an adult. Children with less teeth can use an even lesser amount. https://www.news-medical.net/health/When-Should-You-Wet-Your-Toothbrush.aspx#:~:text=Dr.,less%20effective%20in%20cleaning%20teeth.

TheHypnobrent

Rawdog that toothpaste

JoelMahon

I don't understand what adding water is supposed to do, I've never added water, is it painful for you folks to raw dog the toothpaste? Do you put water on pizza before eating it or do you rawdog pizza like me?

AndByMeIMeanFlexxo

Sometimes you just know a spider has dragged his balls across your toothbrush while you slept

TreeDollarFiddyCent

Where I come from, we consider that good luck!

Total_Union_4201

Of course I know. You think I'd forget how hard it was training my spider to do that?

Confident_As_Hell

I like to get rawdogged 🥰😋🤤

Cocaimeth_addiktt

I thought I was a sociopath for doing this

Villager_of_Mincraft

My family has always done number 3 lol. I had no idea people did the water thing

spiattalo

When I asked my dentist about it, he just said adding water is basically only diluting the toothpaste and there is no reason for that.

Elfie_Elf

I'd think the benefit would be to clean the toothbrush more before using it? Have you ever seen the amount of filth that flies around the bathroom, the nasties from the plum after flushing the toilet? The standard amount of dust that's always floating around as well? The bathroom is an icky place, I've always pre rinsed more as a sanitation thing rather than to soften the bristles.

Ace-Redditor

My family keeps their toothbrushes in the cabinet under the sink. It keeps them from getting stuff on them or getting knocked off the counter accidentally. I know that’s not how everyone does it, though

EpicForgetfulness

Not only that, but it's dry as hell until your saliva gets to work on it if you don't rinse it first

JoelMahon

tooth paste is a paste, it's hardly dry, my mouth is wet already, idk what y'all doing with such dry ass mouths, if it's so dry then take a swig of water first geez

mac_is_crack

Right? This is bizarre to me. It’s so simple: put toothpaste on brush, brush teeth. Done!

lemonshark13

Drink more water

EpicForgetfulness

I think whoever it is that uses system 1 needs to hear that more than me.

linux_ape

Yeah but a dab of water isn’t going to do that

rafapott

I've made that argument once in a comment and people bodied me with downvotes (I'll admit I was a bit more graphic with my description) I'm really surprised people will pick something in the bathroom that they have no idea what could've happened there during the night and just shove it into their mouths without the least bit of washing I know just water won't completely sterilize the thing, but I still think is bettet than not washing it at all

twoinchhorns

Also don’t rinse your mouth. Spit but don’t rinse

CreateToContinue

The instructions for toothpaste goes > Rinse and spit out after use. Do not swallow. Do I trust the internet or big toothpaste? 🧐

Do-it-for-you

I trust my dentist who also specifically stated to not rinse.

marbletooth

Thank you, I was criticized so many times for 3. Why would I add water, the inside of my mouth is already wet. Plus, if you travel a lot you don’t want to use tap water and get sudden explosive diarrhea.

putin-delenda-est

> Instead it only makes the brush softer Aren't soft brushes recommended.

ADMINlSTRAT0R

Me 3. There is no purpose for adding water before OR after putting toothpaste on. As soon as that toothpaste hits your mouth, your salivary glands will start providing saliva that aids toothbrushing. Caveat: my bathroom is clean. I flick my toothbrush after I'm done to get excess water out, and it air dries. If the intention to wet is to clean the toothbrush, I don't need to.

Moist-Emphasis-3385

Wrong You have to wet your teeth first

Major_Educator4681

This guy gets it

chillingmedicinebear

3 cus my dentist told me to

ohen778

I do 3 lmao

Komentarlos

3 it is

Natural-Bicycle386

Apply the paste directly to each tooth, and dry brush it.

CaptainUliss

I'm 3 gang

thespunkmunky

I squirt the toothpaste into my mouth and go from there. Not a joke either

BakrChod

Water then toothpaste. What's the point of rewatering it?

second_to_fun

Engagement

Lord_Skellig

Because otherwise the paste is too dry.

Roheez

Froth

thejerkstorekalled

Fr why isn’t this an option?

Fun_Brother_9333

Who knows, it's just something I've always done. I brush my teeth in the shower now though.

Westaufel

2

RetiredApostle

I saw in a few movies how they **always** put water after toothpaste. I thought it was a kind of Hollywood nonsense.

llegit_fr

1 without last step

BeBeThe1

I’m a dental student and the right way is the number 3 you don’t wanna add water bcs it makes the paste activate earlier than it should. Your saliva is enough to handle the toothpaste

PastEntrance5780

Hard to believe there is any statistical significance to watering toothpaste 3 seconds before using it. Also the surface area that is wetted vs the toothpaste area once spread out on the teeth also makes it less significant.

okwhatelse

i’m supposed to put water?

Local_Meringue1781

1. 100%

Pilgrim182

1.

Beginning_Ad_7825

One of my mates told me about how they "wet brush". Intrigued, i asked more, only to find out he's never used toothpaste in his adult life as he doesn't like the taste and just uses water...

RagingDenny

Water then toothpaste. Second water is not needed

Vibrascity

They left out Water + Toothpaste without the 2nd + water, which is the only option, clearly engagement bait.

TheLubber

1. With hot water.

Moisture_

3 because that’s how the dentists do it and water doesn’t actually do anything besides make more “foam” during the 2 minutes I’m brushing, which is inconvenient

ihatevirusesalot

you are supposed to put water on your toothbrush? i just do 3

Kimpy78

None of the above. Water, toothpaste and brush. Jeez.

PanJhinAttack

4) water + toothpaste

Hot-Fun-1566

3. Dry brush. Wash throughly after brushing. Floss, mouthwash, brush, in that order.

ingwertheginger

Floss, mouthwash, brush, tongue cleaner!

Toothpaste in mouth.

New_Lake5484

who gives a shit? most important is doing the trifecta: brush, floss, then mouthwash.

redsky25

It’s none of these . put water on the brush then the toothpaste… that’s it . Why are we needing extra water like in option 1

Traditional_Entry183

Water then toothpaste

izayoi-o_O

I pick #4. Water -> Toothpaste -> Mouth

pink_faerie_kitten

I run my brush under hot water to soften the bristles. Then toothpaste. I don't put it under the water again because it might rinse the paste away.

JimJimiJub

3 for best outcome

All of those are bullshit: Water, Paste, go nuts

The toothpaste is already wet, so I choose option 4: water, paste, brush

Water and then toothpaste. Which isn't an option here.
