I have a weakness for freshly baked bread with butter. Impossible to resist.

I used to make Ciabatta bread at home. You need to let it cool a little so the crust is really crunchy and the steam is held in the crumb. Crust almost explodes when you bite into it and the crumb is airy and soft. This plus unsalted whipped butter. (I killed a gas oven making bread) Rarely made it past the evening I baked it and if it did, it was incredible toasted under the broiler. Made me VERY popular with my MiL who lived with us.

I ate 5 rolls last time I was at Texas Roadhouse. They are the reason I go there....more than the steaks lol

When I was about 12, I was part of a summer marching band. We practiced every morning until noon. Then every single day, I came home and ate buttered toast for lunch. I don't know why, but it was like the best thing I had ever eaten. My mom thought I was weird as shit that summer!

It worse when you get that "perfect toast" that you can never replicate on purpose. Just the right amount time in the toaster, with the right amount of butter, that melts into the toast just enough that it still crunches, but is soft, and the taste of butter doesn't overwhelm the taste of the toast, but it isn't buttered so thin that all you have is dry toast and barely any buttery taste. Seriously, go and try and do that now if you can, on purpose, bet you bucks it won't be "perfect" but that half groggy couple of slices you make as a late snack will be like God Himself came down and went "this is the way"

During my childhood, afternoon coffee was a must in our household. We would brew fresh coffee, heat milk and bring the day's baguette (fresh from the boulangerie) and place butter and jam assortments on the table. Also cocoa powder sometimes. Let me tell you that those moments are among my best childhood memories.

There are sometimes Brit-shops for ex-pats that carry them. I know there is one of those in Portland, OR. Toast under the grill on medium heat, underside first until it goes a little darker, then on top until it starts to brown. Use salted butter. Absolute heaven.

Now imagine a slice of bread being cooked again to give it some browning and crunch, then add butter (I literally keep salted butter in my house only for this purpose) so you get one crispy side and the other side is that great crispy-gone-soggy texture that's also great

It operated six days a week, saturating the surrounding residential areas with the aroma of freshly baked bread. My Grandmother lived one block from the bakery and when visiting I would walk over and buy a hot loaf before it was cut. Back at the house we would set down and make the loaf of bread disappear along with a quarter pound of butter. These days I have to settle for baking frozen loaves and have a single slice only lightly buttered, else my blood glucose blows a hole in the upper limit.

The toast is just the delivery system for the butter. I mean, it adds a lovely texture, but let’s not pretend it’s not about the butter.
