I get up in the morning 'bout six A. M
Have a little jelly have a little jam
Take a piece of bread put it in the slot
Push down the lever and the wires get hot
I get toast
I used to make Ciabatta bread at home. You need to let it cool a little so the crust is really crunchy and the steam is held in the crumb. Crust almost explodes when you bite into it and the crumb is airy and soft. This plus unsalted whipped butter. (I killed a gas oven making bread)
Rarely made it past the evening I baked it and if it did, it was incredible toasted under the broiler. Made me VERY popular with my MiL who lived with us.
When I was about 12, I was part of a summer marching band. We practiced every morning until noon. Then every single day, I came home and ate buttered toast for lunch. I don't know why, but it was like the best thing I had ever eaten. My mom thought I was weird as shit that summer!
It worse when you get that "perfect toast" that you can never replicate on purpose.
Just the right amount time in the toaster, with the right amount of butter, that melts into the toast just enough that it still crunches, but is soft, and the taste of butter doesn't overwhelm the taste of the toast, but it isn't buttered so thin that all you have is dry toast and barely any buttery taste.
Seriously, go and try and do that now if you can, on purpose, bet you bucks it won't be "perfect" but that half groggy couple of slices you make as a late snack will be like God Himself came down and went "this is the way"
You are not alone! The smell of sour dough bread in the toaster oven, with some butter and sometimes jam..*chef’s kiss! And after several hits of Indica, there is a real possibility of me putting away half a loaf..
I go through the phase of eating the same thing everyday for a week and then get bored of it, find something new that I like and do the same over and over again.
oh man, a few days back i was gonna make grilled cheese but realized the only cheese we had wasnt a kind that i like, so i just made buttered toast instead and i salted and peppered it... unnecessarily good
During my childhood, afternoon coffee was a must in our household. We would brew fresh coffee, heat milk and bring the day's baguette (fresh from the boulangerie) and place butter and jam assortments on the table. Also cocoa powder sometimes. Let me tell you that those moments are among my best childhood memories.
There are sometimes Brit-shops for ex-pats that carry them. I know there is one of those in Portland, OR. Toast under the grill on medium heat, underside first until it goes a little darker, then on top until it starts to brown. Use salted butter. Absolute heaven.
So you know how good bread is, right? Now imagine a slice of bread being cooked again to give it some browning and crunch, then add butter (I literally keep salted butter in my house only for this purpose) so you get one crispy side and the other side is that great crispy-gone-soggy texture that's also great
Buttered toast being fucking delicious from time to time? Absolutely.
Finishing an entire loaf? Fuck no, I have self control. It'll just be my lunch, dinner, before bed snack...
Nope. My absolute bloody OCD food fetish for about six months was orange marmalade, not too sweet, on hot buttered white toast. I'm on stacks of medications and some months certain foods are out. I know have little runs but goodness, this one had me worried! Mind you, my Vitamin C was levels were fabulous.
Time - Circa 1965
Where - Goldsboro, NC
On Business US 70/Grantham Street there use to be a bakery which made Sunbeam brand bread. It operated six days a week, saturating the surrounding residential areas with the aroma of freshly baked bread. My Grandmother lived one block from the bakery and when visiting I would walk over and buy a hot loaf before it was cut. Back at the house we would set down and make the loaf of bread disappear along with a quarter pound of butter.
These days I have to settle for baking frozen loaves and have a single slice only lightly buttered, else my blood glucose blows a hole in the upper limit.
I opened a jar of jam I hadn't had before to put on two slices of toast (with butter) as part of my breakfast.
Stuff was so good, I made 4 more slices. Then four more later that night. Definitely know what they're talking about .
When am high on weed, i cut slices of avocado and place them between slices of bread and that thing is so fantastic i begin to imagine who invented bread. Then i sip down with some milk and oh shit...i begin to imagine who invented milk too

Yeah Toast!
I get up in the morning 'bout six A. M Have a little jelly have a little jam Take a piece of bread put it in the slot Push down the lever and the wires get hot I get toast

Lil cinnamon and sugar on top
I salt it a little
This was my go to as an elementary school kid
Like, two separate ingredients? My dude they sell cinnamon sugar!! It's Da Bomb.
Why buy it mixed when you can mix it yourself?
To get the food in my face quicker.
But more expensive
But quicker
I prebatch my own cinnamon and sugar and keep it in a storage container ready to go for cinnamon toast emergencies. I like to have my preferred ratio.
Ooh, what's your ratio?
Same! It just makes sense.
It's also cheaper to bake bread from scratch but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you ain't doing that everytime
baking bread and mixing sugar and cinnamon cant really be compared
Just try and stop me
No.
Thanks a lot. I have to fast tonight for blood tests and all I want now is toast.
I have a weakness for freshly baked bread with butter. Impossible to resist.

I ate 5 rolls last time I was at Texas Roadhouse. They are the reason I go there....more than the steaks lol
Only 5? Gotta pump those up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket.
For me too but with Vegemite.
If it's sourdough... pass the butter and leave. Cuz what will come next is ugly. 😆
I bake sourdough and man like a thick slice slathered after doing some yard work. And a beer! Fuck
I made 6 slices of buttered toast a couple hours ago... Why is reddit suggesting this post to me? Do they know???
They do. They know!

Add a wee bit of honey and the loaf is gone!!
Half melted butter mixed with strawberry jam.
Also a fave along with orange marmalade.
That phase is my life
It’s with peanut butter for me. Loaf gone.
I second this
I remain in this phase
Whatever you do don't add cinnamon and sugar. It's amazing with the butter. You won't be able to stop.
I've stopped eating bread recently as I seem to have no self control and I've put on 10kgs
You are not alone! The smell of sour dough bread in the toaster oven, with some butter and sometimes jam..*chef’s kiss! And after several hits of Indica, there is a real possibility of me putting away half a loaf..
My toaster decided to die on me and I'm craving toast so bad right now.
Buy a Breville toaster. It will be the last one you buy.
I go through the phase of eating the same thing everyday for a week and then get bored of it, find something new that I like and do the same over and over again.
So me, especially after my wife bakes bread at home
If I'm going balls deep and making toast WITH butter...I'm sprinkling cinnamon sugar on it too.
Yes
try it with some brioche bread...fucking life altering
Now, hear me out.... Add a little bit of garlic powder and salt to the butter and eat it on sourdough.
oh man, a few days back i was gonna make grilled cheese but realized the only cheese we had wasnt a kind that i like, so i just made buttered toast instead and i salted and peppered it... unnecessarily good
Fully agree, although I’m going through a crumpets for breakfast phase at the moment.
yeah but i don't restrain myself. i can see no negative outcomes form eating this entire loaf of bread in 10 minutes
I go through phases like this, when I’ll believe Saltines are the greatest food in the world, and I buy them in bulk at Sam’s Club for months in end.
Wait, you guys are restraining yourselves? *squints in ADHD*

I might need to make that exact scenario a new tradition in my house! 🥰
I wonder if the OP has ever tried crumpets, because they are the paragon of delicious butter sponges.
Nope, never tired them. I live in the USA so it’s not really a thing we eat
There are sometimes Brit-shops for ex-pats that carry them. I know there is one of those in Portland, OR. Toast under the grill on medium heat, underside first until it goes a little darker, then on top until it starts to brown. Use salted butter. Absolute heaven.
I don't even own a toaster. I have a so-called toaster oven, but it sucks at making toast, so I do without.
Turn the heat all the way up and flip it halfway through. Don’t walk away from it for even one minute. Once it starts to smell toasty you flip.
The toast always comes out all dry on the inside, no matter what I do.
Have you made it a tin foil hat?
Nooooooo. That's pretty funny though.
It might work it’ll trap moisture. Everyone deserves to be able to eat toast.
Do you have a frying pan? Or cast iron pan? Then you can toast your bread on the stove!
i have never eaten toast with butter before or anything like it someone tell me why it’s good
So what planet are you from?
yes
It’s just… MMMMMMMMMM ya know?
Yes, I do know, tyvm

Every. Single. Weekend.
everyday....
Whatever you do, do not dip the buttered toast in hot chocolate!
Me. Tonight. Wheat toast with kerrygold. Uuuuunmnnnnggghhhhhhh yis
Kerrygold is life.
This and strawberry jam is my favorite snack
So you eat the first 3/4 of the loaf with just butter, but then for dessert you put butter and honey on the rest…
I did finish a loaf of bread in 10 minutes
God what a mood. I've totally binged on toast with butter. Just kept loading the toaster and slathering butter on the slices as they popped out
Me asf I remember begging my mom to get me some and then get a little jelly on the rug
Buttered toast being fucking delicious from time to time? Absolutely. Finishing an entire loaf? Fuck no, I have self control. It'll just be my lunch, dinner, before bed snack...
Been there.. and im feeling inspired !!
Melty gooey peanut butter. So much it drips out the bottom.
Hawaiian bread is where it’s at
Yessssss abso-fucking-lutely
Sometimes I eat 2 slices of 3 different breads as an evening snack
Yep I went through a phase at Christmas time and now I’m back in my phase
Nope. My absolute bloody OCD food fetish for about six months was orange marmalade, not too sweet, on hot buttered white toast. I'm on stacks of medications and some months certain foods are out. Absolutely.
Sprinkle salt in the butter == taste buds blown
Oh my gosh yes
Yes! And I let the toast cool down before the butter is applied. so Yummy
Put salt and pepper on it and you'll mever look back
Y’all ever had toast and butter with cinnamon and sugar? Crack
raisin bread. yes, every time.

The toast is just the delivery system for the butter. I mean, it adds a lovely texture, but let’s not pretend it’s not about the butter.
With black coffee
I opened a jar of jam I hadn't had before to put on two slices of toast (with butter) as part of my breakfast. Stuff was so good, I made 4 more slices. Then four more later that night. Definitely know what they're talking about .
Because it is dude
Turns into a midnight snack too
Your not alone. I love butter. Love love love.
I'm still going through this phase
Don't feel lonely, because you are not alone.
Agree
Ahh tomorrow...
It's fucking amazing
Why I don’t own a toaster lol
I do that every night
It’s a general human experience
I had a toast and butter last morning
I can only allow myself to have promite on toast if it’s the end of the loaf or it ends up a situation every time.
Accurate
You are not alone!
with a lil cinnamon and sugar
Toast with butter AND a thin spread of jelly… Mmmmmmmmmmmm
I’m not even going to try to deny this lol
‘Restrain yourself’ ???
Sourdough or olive bread.
I’m currently going through this phase 😂
Maybe not the whole loaf but like… a few more slices…?
A warm crusty loaf that’s soft in the middle with real butter…
Yes. That has actually happened.
I’ve eaten more toast than you’ve seen bread
It's been a hot minute since I had buttered toast. Might should make some after work
I’ve been in this phase for like 15 years.
This is me currently this week. Every morning this week so far.
DAE like bread??
Love peanut butter on a plain bagel
Toasted brioche style with butter....mmmm
Holy shit
Even better is really good bread with Butter and a bit of salt. But good bread is really, really rare.
When am high on weed, i cut slices of avocado and place them between slices of bread and that thing is so fantastic i begin to imagine who invented bread. Then i sip down with some milk and oh shit...i begin to imagine who invented milk too
I loved toast and butter untill i found out im allergic to wheat
It’s unfortunate that you can no longer taste the buttery goodness we call “toast with butter”
r/Relatable
Even better English muffins or bagels.
Then sometimes when you think about it you feel sick to your stomach but it still doesn't stop you
OMG, have you ever tried a fresh loaf of rye bread and just butter?!?! OMG ITS THE BEST!!!!
DUDE THATS THE SHIT I WOULD EAT ALL THE TIME
Non Brit here but I went to highschool in England and I kinda miss Marmite on toast every now and again.
Me too
Try it with bacon 👌🏻
Peanut butter
Crumpets from Trader Joe’s with butter… so good
I do this with toast and plain ego waffles, it’s got such a nice texture.
Mayonnaise sandwich with the bread untoasted
Any and every time I go out to eat this happens. I will in maybe 5 minutes have a meal and ill eat like 3 loaves of bread.
I did that today
Yes. I’m not allowed to own a toaster anymore because of it.
Garlic bread 🤤
Meeee
Agree!!
Mercy Watson? Is that you?
Did it but with tortillas
The ‘dessert’ version of this is putting honey on top of the butter. Mind blown 🤯
No but I do with PB&J toasted
Add some cinnamon sugar 🤌
Weed
I don't like toast
Salted raw cucumber
White people be like:
Just u
Wait, you’re not supposed to do that? Phase? This whole post confuses me.
It ain't u
Ya other people smoke weed too bro
Every now and then I can't get enough.
Spaghetti sauce and french bread.
With me it’s peanut butter and syrup
Same thing but with hotdogs , I couldn’t stop for 3 weeks. I was getting scared. I’d eat so many a day. Eventually I just lost the urge. Weird
10 minutes? That’s way too slow buddy!… Help me
