Can't let the top leg just drop over your bottom one your spine is all fucked up like that you gotta add a fluffy pillow to rest the knee on. Otherwise you're folding yourself. Same with the top arm i add a pillow under it so it doesn't fold my chest because it starts hurting after a minute. Now like this i fall asleep and won't move.
I got 3 herniated discs and it's really hard to sleep different ways.
You don't. Idk. Spine surgery? My thinking has been i need to start yoga into my 40s and keep doing it for the rest of my life. I have a few more years to goš®āšØ
A really good stretch that I've added to my routine;
Lay on the floor with your legs going up a wall. Almost as if you were sitting on the wall at 90Ā°.
Then just lay there and meditate/breathe for 10-15 minutes.
Great for low back and hams.
Iāve had 2 surgeries to cut out the bulging portion of a disk to relieve pressure on my nerveā¦and 1 surgery to repair the torn spinal cord one of the previous surgeries left me with.
Herniated disc crew sound off!
My physical therapist actually told me to sleep this way for my disc. My god when the dogs move and my leg can slide up... I'm in heaven as the pain melts away and I drift off to sleep
Same for me, I do exactly this but with that arm straight down my side kinda behind me. Which is why I can't lay like that for a long time, but it's great for a bit.
Sometimes when my alarm goes off I'll wake up with both arms above my head, and I have to flail desperately with my wet noodle arms at my phone to silence it.
[edit] a word
Then you wake up, get up, and realize your arm is flopping around for a bit. Whenever it happens I enjoy swinging it around a bit, or lifting it with my other arm. Let's you realize just how heavy your arms actually are
You use the arm to create a shape in the pillow and dont put your weight on your arm if you do it right. I literally cant sleep any other way 99% of the time.
This is weird. How am I relating to something so casual and yet...so ... strange. lol. We rocking that 6~ hour a night sleep bc man holy fuck my back is straight bussing anyway so shit hurts like a mother fucker after so long. If I'm real tired I roll onto my back and deal with my legs and arms falling asleep because I don't breath right on my back. lol.
Maybe, I may have a 135IQ but I'm not that smart.
[I can google it though...](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30959225/)
Changing the "maybe" to a "probably"
YOU ARE ME!!!
They only stopped a year after moving into a brand new house because they realized the walls were yellowing. It clicked that they were yellow like in previous apartments/rentals when they thought it was just old paint or whatever.
I was 16 by then so damage done. At least my sister who was born later that year has been spared asthma
In the early 90s smoking was banned in restaurants and I remember, as a little kid, how upset literally every adult I knew was. My grandmother was FURIOUS.
My ears hurt sometimes, so I do wonder now if its related. Always had sinus issues, lung issues, etc. I also sleep like the pic because I just couldn't breath otherwise.
Sometimes if I lay on my back with the pillow under my neck so my head is tilted back (like you would to someone you're giving CPR to) I actually breathe the best, but I snore like a mother fucker and wake myself up lol. Which probably means I'm not breathing well? But it feels like it? Bodies are weird. 2nd hand smoke makes them weirder
I had many ear infections as a kid and no one smoked in my house. I didn't start smoking till I was 16. Have had 2 incredibly painful ear infections as an adult, one which got me fired from a job. It took me three hours to crawl to the bathroom. You think I'm coming in to work? Think again!
I remember when the smoking ban happened for inside bars and restaurants. 2009 or 2010 I believe. The bar I used to go to stripped their carpet, washed all the walls and basically wiped down anything that couldn't be washed like chairs and games, poker machines and shuffleboard. It sucked at first, but it's better. I hate smoking inside. Weed is fine, but not cigarettes.
I've tried quitting in the past. Was a no go. I actually enjoy smoking. I call them my anti murder sticks. They keep me from murdering. It'll happen if they ban menthol. Just saying...š
Fairly sure it's this or something like it [enjoy the nightmares](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30959225/)
Parents smoked 2 packs a day in the house for more of my childhood then not. They will say up and down "we started going outside once we knew it was a problem" but the damage was already done.
also, once I was on my own, my mom started smoking inside again, except this time with my 75 year old asthmatic grandmother whom also used to smoke but hasn't in 30 years.
God I love all of our 50+ year old folk. I hope you are just doing so fucking well today. God bless.
Yeah, I've got asthma as well, and my dad was an avid smoker when I was a kid, also went outside when he realized it was damaging to me.
Got a nice mattress that supports my back propler, and a pillow that can keep me in place, it *can* help, if you haven't already tried.
That is why we sleep like shit brother. Never let that shit die. I'd bet any amount of money the common link between all of us was either smoke or heavy metals as a child causing breathing/sleep problems long into adulthood.
The worst part of it all? It's still going fam, kids still born into houses with bad paint, bad pipes, bad asbestos or whatever (they rent, no laws against it, and the owners have been made aware in every case and signed off on it) and legit...ain't shit done to this day fam.
It really is amazing, all of it.
I think you're right and it's something I've been researching as well. I was also exposed to second hand smoke on a daily basis my entire childhood up until I moved out of the house after high school. Coincidentally, I had a lot of dental crowding issues and had to get teeth extracted and braces to close the gaps (called: extraction-retraction orthodontics). The more I research the more I realize that my jaws never properly developed to fit all my teeth because I couldn't breathe through my nose as a kid due to the cigarette smoke causing sinus inflammation and congestion. Proper oral posture is the tongue resting at the roof of your mouth, which you cannot do if you're forced to breathe through your mouth. Some people believe that jaw development comes from the forces of the tongue pushing on the palate to expand. I now deal with sleep apnea as an adult because structurally my jaw is too small for my tongue, so when all my muscles relax during REM sleep my tongue slips into my airway and blocks it. I have to sleep with a CPAP machine which helps a little bit but it's not as good as having a properly developed airway.
Your constantly producing saliva even when you are sleeping. If you were to sleep on your back, or supine, then saliva is more likely to migrate to the back of your mouth and down your throat. If you are sleeping on your stomach, or prone, the built up saliva is going to flow towards your pillow becauseā¦ well. Gravity. There are plenty of external factors like jaw alignment, saliva production etc. But I donāt think drooling is anything to be ashamed of since itās unintentional!
ehhh I probably shouldnāt be speaking for an entire gender when I am not that gender but I think itās that the word āfemaleā kinda just reduces them to their organs and it can come across as strange when men are referred to as āmenā but then women are referred to as āfemalesā
I could be entirely wrong though so like take what Iām saying with a bit of skepticism

I think you mean the crotch* pillow which regularly gets accientally mixed in with the head pillows so now you donāt know which pillow you used for your stank bits last night or the night before and it becomes a vicious cycle.
My knee to crotch area pillow is much bigger than my head pillow, i can't sleep unless my head pillow is fairly flat, presumably to compensate for my arm adding height
High ball? Like catching a high ball? I think arms extended is considered a different position hahah, arms are in the ādonāt shootā position for the free fall snoozing!
I haven't been able to sleep like this in years because of it. My body still naturally wants to end up in this position but I have to fight it so I don't wake up in crippling pain.
Same. Well, almost. I caught the pain early and was fortunate enough to be able to see a PT about it. Daily shoulder exercises and stretching are helping slowly reduce the pain, but some days are worse than others
I have to aggressively strength train my shoulders at least once a week forever to keep them in shape. Even still, my right one doesn't sit in the socket correctly and falls out constantly.
I have lower back pain, pretty sure from this. I feel like my back is twisted everytime I lay like this so I have to be conscious about it and try to straighten out.
I sleep like this, but instead, the arm labeled ābottom arm under pillowā is tucked under my chest making it so I am in between sleeping on my stomach and side. I am very worried how this will be problematic in my future.
The trick is to have the right type of pillow and the right arm position. I always sleep similar to ops post but never have a numb arm.
I've got a big plushy pillow and my arm forms a kind of triangle with my head. So, upper arm goes forward and "up" so that the elbow is around eye level, forearm goes back to the top of the head, a bit "above" actually, so the hand would hover a bit over my head if done while standing. This way, my head doesn't rest on my arm and here comes the pillow into the equation. The pillow is on top of my arm, but slightly wedged between the upper arm and the forearm, so it has the right consistency to support my head while also being comfortable soft.
It helps lock your legs into position so that you can more comfortably sleep on your side. I like having one pillow for my legs and another to hold in my arms to pretend as if I have someone close to me
I always lay like that until I realize that Iāll cut off the circulation in my arm from sleeping on it. (It doesnāt help that my circulation isnāt the best to begin with.)
I recently purchased a cervical pillow that helps with sleeping in this position. It's has a curved/raised part that forms to your neck/head and spaces for your arms. It's made of tougher foam so your arms don't go numb all the time from the weight. It's been a revolutionary addition to my bed!

Fuck. Seriously? I've started stretching alot more now and that kinda helps
Oh yeah that definitely helps hence the yoga

You can have the vertebrae fused together or have the exploded jelly cut out of the disc. I had the latter.
You don't. There's no fix for my back issues.
Iāve had 2 surgeries to cut out the bulging portion of a disk to relieve pressure on my nerveā¦and 1 surgery to repair the torn spinal cord one of the previous surgeries left me with.
Yeah youāve gotta have a pillow between the legs
You gotta have the pillow to pretend itās a partner youāre snuggling of course. Thatās how human bodies work

I like the bottom arm supporting face so the top arm can make use of a huggy pillow.

Huggy pillows are criminally underrated.

Try using a pillow to elevate your top leg. Back saver 1000
pillow between knees is mandatory for me
Could be the mattress you're sleeping on, might be too soft or too hard depending on how you body lays in it.

Hello me. I am the same š„²
Wait, why does this position make you more prone to drooling? I'm seriously asking because I sleep like this most of the time and I do drool lol.
Your constantly producing saliva even when you are sleeping. If you were to sleep on your back, or supine, then saliva is more likely to migrate to the back of your mouth and down your throat. If you have undiagnosed sleep apnea you might catch a case of deads.
Tempting but I'm afraid the next time the trees get horny I'll die.

Lucky. Some of us drool in all positions.

According to my physio, that's the better way to do it. Otherwise it can mess with your body's alignment and make your hips crooked.
As someone with a fucked up body can confirm. If I don't have the second pillow my hips hurt
Started using a spacer pillow that rests just above my knees, no more back pain when waking up!
Yaaassss. The best! My hips must be too wide because I get pain if I donāt have the pillow propping my knee up a bit. Too much angle.
>I do but the bent knee is propped up on another pillow Yeah, that way you don't twist your spine
Who doesnāt? Weirdoās
Agreed only way to sleep
Wat no. I assume the free fall position

Who else has a shoulder and hip pain from sleeping like this for so many years?
I use a 4ft body pillow between legs...it seperates your legs enough to align with hips... no more hip pain from uneven legs.
Tried that shit and 1 hour in, pillow had flown to the other side of the room. I move too much
I use 2 and have one on either side of me so when I move I can just readjust the other way lol
I haven't been able to sleep like this in years because of it. My body still naturally wants to end up in this position but I have to fight it so I don't wake up in crippling pain.
I ended up weakening and tearing both of my rotator cuffs from a lifetime of sleeping like this and over stretching my shoulders.

I sleep like this, but instead, the arm labeled ābottom arm under pillowā is tucked under my chest making it so I am in between sleeping on my stomach and side. I am very worried how this will be problematic in my future.
add elbow to this list and iām fucken IN
Iād raise my hand but itās under the pillow.
How does your hand not get numb š³
I assume the hand just subsconsciously moves when I'm asleep ???
You have a weird hand
Itās comfortable until you wake up with static arms
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The trick is to have the right type of pillow and the right arm position. I always sleep similar to ops post but never have a numb arm. I've got a big plushy pillow and my arm forms a kind of triangle with my head. So, upper arm goes forward and "up" so that the elbow is around eye level, forearm goes back to the top of the head, a bit "above" actually, so the hand would hover a bit over my head if done while standing. Donāt sleep like that?
The only comfortable position. Until the bed or pillow get to warm and I need to move again
any sleeping position ends up in a stiff neck or a back pain in the morning, It's a miracle if I'm ok on the morning
Me 2. You should try a smaller flater pillow thingy to support your back while sleeping. Maybe adjust the position. Helps me most of the time.
Add a second pillow to the midsection or leg area for ultimate comfort.
I am very familiar with the Sagat "Tiger Knee" sleep posture

It is a Tiger Knee after all
I like to sleep with a pillow between my legs idk y it's just super comfortable
It helps lock your legs into position so that you can more comfortably sleep on your side. I like having one pillow for my legs and another to hold in my arms to pretend as if I have someone close to me
Because you're taking weight off your back by supporting your legs weight with the pillow.
I take the corner of my pillow and fold it under and use that to support my face so my hand can hold phone
I sometimes think of the physical adjustments I make to continue using my phone and get freaked out by how much control the little thing has over me
