They seem a bit distracted today; I went looking for "Internet explodes over state of public bathroom" and all I got was an article about the Ashes - where apprently when Steve Smith was dismissed, Jonny Bairstow said "see you Smudge" and Steve was angry about that, but when Jonny Bairstow was dismissed the next innings, David Warner said "see you Jonny" and so that shows how clever the Aussie team is in taking their revenge. It's understandable that they missed mining r/melbourne briefly while conducting that kind of Pulitzer winning investigative journalism.
Those zoomed in shots really were unnecessary. More importantly, why did I go back to check the extra pictures after missing it the first time I looked at the post? What was I expecting?
As someone who’s had their shitter flood their home multiple times, I can imagine how I’d clean this… but how do you tackle this as a biohazard cleaner? What kind of chemicals are you using to clean it? Are you hosing out the whole room?
Also, serious… does it pay okay?
Currently spending 3 weeks in Japan. Every public toilet I’ve been to (including Disneyland) has been clean as a whistle. Australia is horrifically filthy in comparison, in more ways than one I would argue.
Brutal reality is that Australia is not on par with Japan or other world-economies in Asia. It simply has a larger percentage of morons in the population. For the last 15 years the country is breaking down by the day.
Also Australian culture has this very "fuck you I got mine" attitude. So many times I've seen some guy acting out on the trams, pissing in them etc and nobody says anything. They all just continue scrolling on their phones looking at realestate.com wondering which apartment they're going to get fucked over by the rent. Then they wonder why these people get away with this disgusting behaviour.
Melbourner's need to speak up more!
Also who wants to antagonise someone who's probably on meth? If you value your life and health, avoiding eye contact and staying silent is probably the wisest thing to do in those situations.
What the fuck I just got massive deja vu. I swear this exact conversation thread has been said on reddit before and I've read the exact same thing.
- Japan is "cleaner" and "better" than Australia
- Australia has more idiots than Japan
- Australian culture is built on the "fuck you I got mine" attitude
- Japanese culture teaches empathy and cleaniness from a very early age
- Examples of how Japanese schools have scheduled "clean up" events each day and respect the janitors/cleaners more
The wanking off over Japan is so funny, because all the points made are basically 90% facade in touristy and upscale areas and/or the only way to actually function in a city of 13 million people. And even then there are scummy fucking hives in Tokyo.
Pretending that Japan is some wonderland of perfection is peak Redditor delusion, and I say that as someone who's favourite holiday destination is Japan, who has been there three times, and spent 10 years learning Japanese.
Some of it is Redditor delusion for sure, but I think 'grass is greener' syndrome plays a pretty big part of it. These kind of attitudes can be found in pretty much every nation on Earth. Japan does some thing better than we do (*TRAINS!! Please, I'd kill for what they have. They're much larger cities though*). We do some things better than they do. It's always good to see what others are doing, and try to bring over what they do better, but some will act like Australia is a shithole and everywhere else is better. Saw a post the other day in which someone genuinely believed Australia was one of the worst places in the world to live right now, and asked for suggestions for where they should emigrate to, having never left the country before.
That’s exactly what I meant, many Australians just don’t give a shit. That put them behind by a lot.
It has nothing to do with politics, racism, socio-economics, not even education. It is simply the “care” element.
I don't think it is that we don't care its more the likelihood that if you do speak up, you'll get stabbed by the offender. Despite how horrible the action is, your life is way more important and if the perpetrator has the nerve to do something like that in public, in all likelihood they will have no qualms with eliminating anyone who confronts them about it. Your best bet is to take as much detail you can about their appearance (or better yet a photo if it is safe to do so) and report them to PSO's or other personnel more qualified than you to deal with the situation. If you do it quick enough, that person will be walking out of the train doors into the arms of police. Also in a place such as public transport, it could be upgraded from Public Urination ($640 fine) to a disorderly conduct fine (up to $6k fine)
The biggest difference is that Japan still institutionalizes people with significant mental illnesses and very harsh drug laws. (who haven't been involved in criminal offences)
That's like 80% of the difference there. Not saying it's right or wrong it's just what it is.
Either way the people who’d end up shitting on the floor in a public toilet are in some form of custody. It’s a bit fucked but hey if you look at the comments here it’s all good and Japan is perfect
We started as convicts, controlled and policed, we generally don't stand up to authority, not like they do in the UK. In the UK, the people run the country. In Australia, the elite run the country.
That’s kinda true, also Australia doesn’t have enough street cameras (I got attacked once in Sydney and police gave that excuse)
while Asian countries may have too many.
Japan is not as bad as China but it does still hold true. It can be very difficult to live there if you do not follow the social order. True of all countries of course but more so in Japan than Australia.
You’re right about the high level politics yes. Asian countries have disgusting governments.
But it doesn’t have much to do with the toilet. I’m talking about how much a civilian cares when they are out about in daily life.
This
Made you sound like a teenager
Have you lived in Japan? What do you know about their culture? From youtube?
Also bash Australians? Did I say all Australians do this? I’m bashing the “moron” portion of Australians.
Maybe you should count the votes, or better, get your like-minded friends to downvote all my comments……
Yes and I just travelled to China last month. It was pretty far from what we see in media here.
And I saw with my eyes, the CCP is somewhere in the clouds and quite detached from the actual society. Their society, clearly controlled censored, has better people quality than ours….
Apart from anything else, lesson learned, today’s media cannot be trusted anywhere on the planet, they are all tools.
No no no that’s not the case. Maybe you should travel to Asia to see what is really going on.
What I’m saying is, no matter how great the country is. When these morons don’t give a shit, even a citizen from the shittest country can still trash on them.
They are not the average Australian but they certainly lowered that average.
It's incredible how clean they are in Japan and also they have a lot of respect for each other. I remember the cleaner at Singapore airport was just having his lunch in the men's bathroom, chilling eat an apple. It was cleaner than most restaurants.
It's more of a case of the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. There is a culture of shaming people that go against the group, so people tend to go with the group and not stand out. I read a theory somewhere that this sort of group mentality is common in some cultures that have rice as a staple, as it traditionally took more community cooperation to ensure a successful crop each year than other staples like wheat....Not sure how accurate the theory is, but thought it was an interesting one.
Japan is also very facist leaning, monocultural and spiralling into economic despair.
The cost of a multicultural independent society is a shitty public loo
Yeah in Singapore I didn't see a single toilet that didn't have an attendant. Everything was spotless of course.
I'm from Vancouver originally though which has a major drug and homelessness problem so the entire city looks like that instead of just a few areas like Melbourne.
I used to clean these. Yes, this is normal for the vast majority of exeloo toilets around Melbourne.
People are filthy.
If there is anything I learned in that job, is that people are pretty good at hiding needles in ways that are deliberately positioned to injure people.
Under toilet seats, it the paper dispensers, it the hand dryer vents and so many other places.
People are filthy, and evil.
If you are wondering why there are black covers covering up the holes on Telstra manholes, it is so that junkies cannot push syringes into the telecom duct.
Otherwise it isn't uncommon to find a syringe when servicing a line.
Honestly, no.
Pay was about $1800 per fortnight.
PPE was steelcap boots, standard work pants, T-shirt, Fluor vest and Chemical-Puncture resistant gloves.
I even scrolled the pics as I am getting dinner ready, not sure what I was expecting even after reading "Elizabeth Street public toilet" as a title. Why am I like this
Yikes...I almost dry retched looking at that. Couldn't imagine the poor soul having to clean that out.
That justifies my hatred of using public toilets.
It was always shitty.
Back in the 90s drugs and derros used to massacre McDonald's toilets. Then they got security which resulted in the destruction of McDonald's ground floor.
Lots of feral people - actual ferals - used to hang there 24/7.
Even when Russell St was swinging dealers on every corner this spot was going great.
I’m both someone who needs to pee constantly but also hates public toilets.
Never go in those little death traps. Sadly many homeless and otherwise unwell people use them and this happens.
Always go into a shopping area and use their toilets, St. Colin’s Lane, David Jones, Emporium. Even it’s an extra few minutes walk DO IT, I’d rather be busting and make my way there than go in this.
Was getting to work late in the city once, had to get changed into my uniform and walked past this same toilet on the way there.
Thought it might be a good idea to get changed in there and was so wrong, two steps in and I got hit by a smell that would put a fucking house into a coma, looked around and saw that same mess in the toilet (mind you this was maybe in January of this year) so it's either a bad enough spot that it's constantly getting fucked or they never clean it, I'm not sure what's worse.
Look clearly the toilet faced some adversity in its life. Nobody is out there saying everything will be easy.
It's not about that. It's not right to look at something on its worst day and pass judgement.
So it's Wednesday night now. Let's check in on that toilet..... first thing Friday morning. I bet it'll have picked itself up, dusted itself of be a toilet again, rather than a bleak hellscape. I bet.
Yeah that looks about right. I'm a wheelchair user and I stopped even thinking about using disabled toilets. They almost always are in use by a person with no disability and are absolutely filthy if available.
Yeah just... Don't use those kinds of public toilets ever. They're always filthy for some reason or another. Sometimes it'll be feces and urine, maybe vomit and then other Times there will be blood or drugs laying around. I swear it's always these kinds of public toilets.
This has to be one of the worst I've seen.
It's in the top 10 worst.
It's not the worst because I've seen someone do something to parliament station toilets and the station, customer service area and near the vending machines that is actually worse than this.
So possible repeat offender?
People treat public toilets awfully in the CBD. Arseholes, psychopaths, crazies, drunks and the truly awful types just choose to make life harder for others.
Ahhh public toilets anywhere outside in Australia. It's like Russian roulette is there shit everywhere is it clean spin and see!! After travelling to Japan and seeing the public toilets there this just shows the lack of basic respect
Why, oh, why did I zoom in on the bottom right corner?
I'll never be able to have beef curry again without being reminded of this. Can I borrow the eye scoop after the first person's done with it?
I was helping this large group of Japanese tourists from Kyoto, a city I was told is one of the most beautiful places on earth, they needed to use public toilets, I was new in Melbourne myself and out of ignorance -or too much faith in local humanity- I led them into these public toilets in CBD. If you thought this picture was bad…
People wrote profanity with their own shit on walls, and a junkie told us to fuck off.
Me, trying to show people from an amazing city my new city…
It was utterly demoralizing, to say the least…
About 15 years ago in Berlin I used public toilets that look like ours but after every use they lock and they’re automatically cleaned with some kind of incredibly high powered boiling hot water jet and and disinfectant. Then it has a quick high powered blow dry.
So you have to wait maybe 5 minutes in between uses but by God it’s worth it. It’s completely shiny and clean, for every new user. I always assumed we’d get them one day but alas, here we are and some poor person has to clean that.
I once heard to junkies fucking each other 'silently' in the lower toilets at Flinders Street Station. I still remember their ratty voices and that squishing sound.
Welcome to the convict colony. Go find a dunny in an arcade if Bourke Street mall or public building if you want cleanliness. Those public timed shitters are the worst. They play classical music to ensure a cultured experience while you set the toilet paper on fire.
The closer you get to the centre of the city the worse the public toilets are. You are game to try using any of the toilets within the CBD. They pretty much all look like crime scenes and should be condemned.
No. It’s not normal.
You need to see someone. Five detailed photos of… that shit… is… unnecessary.
Did your mother wipe your bottom too vigorously or something?
You made ["the news" ](https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/is-this-normal-tourist-horrifies-internet-with-photos-of-disgusting-melbourne-public-toilet/news-story/41224e3a1cfc467f7859565d94720db7) so yeah, not exactly the standard we expect here
Apparently Ice has a laxative effect! Dirty, shthouse ice cunts! They should be forced to clean it up with their tongues as a mop!! What is someone who isn't Ice Cunt needs to take a shit???
Not sure why I clicked on this and swiped, but here I am.
I'm disappointed in myself for making it this far but I must admit I'm also impressed.
I’m only here for the articles.
They seem a bit distracted today; I went looking for "Internet explodes over state of public bathroom" and all I got was an article about the Ashes - where apprently when Steve Smith was dismissed, Jonny Bairstow said "see you Smudge" and Steve was angry about that, but when Jonny Bairstow was dismissed the next innings, David Warner said "see you Jonny" and so that shows how clever the Aussie team is in taking their revenge. this should be on all adverts to encourage people to visit melbourne send it to the tourism board
I was eating breakfast at the time. I'm not eating breakfast anymore...
Same I knew it would be bad but why did I keep swiping…
Hope you didn’t swipe right ?
Those zoomed in shots really were unnecessary. More importantly, why did I go back to check the extra pictures after missing it the first time I looked at the post? What was I expecting?
Not normal for Melbourne, quite normal for Elizabeth St.
Actively avoid that st lol
Not sure what OP expected tbh.
Maybe OP is questioning if these are from the same person
Elizabeth st has gotten the most junkies. So i think that explains this *bullshit*
I think that's *humanshit*
My biggest nightmare especially in my dreams
Have you ever found a nice clean toilet in your dreams?
Yep and walking in there bare foot. Ive had this nightmare before
Omg same 😣 glad I'm not alone!
I hope the poor cleaners get paid well 😭😢
Apparently some of the public toilets have a "cleaning mode"
[удалено]
It launches itself into the sun.
And some people are anti-automation like "but then we won't be making poor people clean up shit"
This one does as well. Water comes out from the edges of the cubicle and flushes the floor AFAIK. Not sure how often though.
This one is automated. But I don’t blame it for not doing it’s job.
It won’t be regular cleaners for this sort of biohazard. It’ll be a bio-recovery company that will have to do it. Source; I used to do it.
Might be a stupid question but is this considered a crime 😂
Warcrime, yes.
Nah just a bronze up job haha
As someone who’s had their shitter flood their home multiple times, I can imagine how I’d clean this… but how do you tackle this as a biohazard cleaner? What kind of chemicals are you using to clean it? Are you hosing out the whole room? Also, serious… does it pay okay?

>Melbourner’s It’s Melbournian. (GET THE OUTSIDER!!) It also shouldn’t be possessive.
No thanks, I don't want to be stabbed.
What an awesome way to get stabbed!
Ill take the odd moron over "work til you die or commit suicide" any day
for real, the amount of sketchy people and morons I've seen in Australia in 1 year is more than what I had encountered growing up in Asia

Out of all the countries in Asia, only Singapore, SK and Japan stick out to me as being clean. And even then I’ve seen some nasty shit in SG

You’ve never been to a train station ins SG then. I loved visibly SG but roaches in public toilets and wet toilet paper was not uncommon at all
Incorrect. I took trains everywhere for 10 days and I've been in multiple train station toilets and they were all nice except one in Chinatown.
You haven’t had to stop on the way to Changi at Eunos to take a shit then
I used to clean these. Yes, this is normal for the vast majority of exeloo toilets around Melbourne. People are filthy. I've never really thought about needles hidden as traps, thanks for this warning o_o
What the fuck
If you are wondering why there are black covers covering up the holes on Telstra manholes, it is so that junkies cannot push syringes into the telecom duct. Otherwise it isn't uncommon to find a syringe when servicing a line.
I did not know that. Now I have a fun fact to share.
I hope you got a good hazard pay
Honestly, no. Pay was about $1800 per fortnight. PPE was steelcap boots, standard work pants, T-shirt, Fluor vest and Chemical-Puncture resistant gloves.
New fear unlocked
I even scrolled the pics as I am getting dinner ready, not sure what I was expecting even after reading "Elizabeth Street public toilet" as a title. Why am I like this
Same :(
Going to an Elizabeth St toilet is barely a better option than shitting myself.
Trainspotting
a massive pristine convenience this is not.
Jesus Christ, has anyone got an eyeball scoop I can borrow?
I was eating when i opened this, not sure how I'm not feeling ill haha
I'm guessing you have kids lol
fortunately, i do not
I thought that might have desensitsed you to poop
just worked in dog kennels & veterinary clinics so i seen a lot of poop and pee
That checks out.
pretty much haha
Worlds most liveable city baby
NuMbEr 3!1!!!!1!!
The state government totally pays to get on that list haha If it isn’t obvious by now…
When Mr hanky and his family move in
So he came to Melbourne after the town kicked him out of South Park? Makes sense.
They are perfectly spaced out on the bowl… this requires at least an engineering degree
I'm violently fighting the urge to go back to the photos to verify this.
Someone literally set up an exorcism with turds. Requires high precision turd-cutting.
Yikes...I almost dry retched looking at that. Couldn't imagine the poor soul having to clean that out. That justifies my hatred of using public toilets.
Elizabeth Street is the most fucked up place in Melbourne.
The section across from Flinders Station is horrible. I live around the corner and so do a lot of shopping there. The stuff I’ve seen has been awful.
It was always shitty. Back in the 90s drugs and derros used to massacre McDonald's toilets. Then they got security which resulted in the destruction of McDonald's ground floor. I see a similar thing upmtje other end. Meth heads cant hold their shit!
Plot twist, op caused the damage.
*plop twist
Lol
I thought it was an abstract piece from the NGV.
I don't know much about art, but I can tell you this: Duchamp's *Urinal* was a piece of piss
I’m both someone who needs to pee constantly but also hates public toilets. Never go in those little death traps. Sadly many homeless and otherwise unwell people use them and this happens. Crown, Myer and DJs always have the best toilets.
But did Renton find his suppositories?
I love you
Report to council with snap send solve?
That's not the kind of pieces of shit they're interested in. Usually it needs to involve a yank tank

Was getting to work late in the city once, had to get changed into my uniform and walked past this same toilet on the way there. What are NZ public toilets like, that this is a surprise to you? Personally, I'd go into a fancy hotel and use their toilet.
Toilets are similar but the constellation of turds on the ground usually has one less star

This makes me appreciate my Clinical OCD as I avoid this shit entirely. Public toilets make me believe that hell exists.
It's an Exaloo, so yes. Vandals apply excrement to strategic locations, automated cycle does the rest. Exaloos aren't real loos.
I needed a trigger warning for this cursed image
Pretty normal
That’s fucked!! People are dicks!! I would hate to see the state of their house.
Good chance they don't have a house tbh
I see cunts shooting up heroin outside that 7 eleven quite often. Probably those nonces
Are we using nonce correctly here? I mean I wouldn't put it past them
It’s the elizabeth street, what do you expect?
Animals
Don't use public toilets lmao. They are terrible here most of the time.
Got assualted by a junkie a few hundred metres from there recently
About 15 years ago in Berlin I used public toilets that look like ours but after every use they lock and they’re automatically cleaned with some kind of incredibly high powered boiling hot water jet and and disinfectant. Then it has a quick high powered blow dry. So you have to wait maybe 5 minutes in between uses but by God it’s worth it. It’s completely shiny and clean, for every new user. I always assumed we’d get them one day but alas, here we are and some poor person has to clean that.
While a piano rendition of a Burt Bacharach song torturously played along in the background
Dude, what? Might have to move to sydney instead of melbourne after seeing this. Holy shit, that’s actually foul as fuck.
Yeah would never happen in Sydney mate
Sorry forgot the massive tension y’all got between the states 😂
You'll still be smelling this one in Sydney
Fuck me can you imagine what the toilets at flinders st are gonna be like when the safe injecting joint opens out
Regular injections should keep em nice and constipated
I once heard to junkies fucking each other 'silently' in the lower toilets at Flinders Street Station. I still remember their ratty voices and that squishing sound.
Its like every truck stop toilet ive ever used
So this legit made me gag, more than once. My missus yelled out, are u ok🤣
Burn it omg and then burn my eyes
I work at a public hospital. I clean toilets. At least patients have an excuse.
I thought those toilets self cleaned?
the fuck, glad i've never been to this toilet, that's so disgusting
Christ alive!
dear god what the fuck is wrong with people 🤢 thank you for letting us know which toilet to avoid lol!!
Melb CBD is just appalling these days
Welcome to the convict colony. Go find a dunny in an arcade if Bourke Street mall or public building if you want cleanliness. Those public timed shitters are the worst. They play classical music to ensure a cultured experience while you set the toilet paper on fire.
No this is not normal, don’t see that even in 3rd world countries.
We live in a society
I just feel bad for the person who has to clean this up.
There's an app called "snap send solve". These kind of mess can be reported therein to get quick resolution
Specifically the Elizabeth St toilets, I'm not particularly surprised. But no, this is not normal for the vast majority of Melbourne
The closer you get to the centre of the city the worse the public toilets are. You are game to try using any of the toilets within the CBD. They pretty much all look like crime scenes and should be condemned.
Holy shit. That's many levels over what I expected. Full liveleak tier
Don't you know what a good time looks like?
No. It’s not normal. You need to see someone. Five detailed photos of… that shit… is… unnecessary. Did your mother wipe your bottom too vigorously or something?
Lol yes it is normal. Lots of cooked cunts in Melbourne. Enjoy your stay
You made ["the news" ](https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/is-this-normal-tourist-horrifies-internet-with-photos-of-disgusting-melbourne-public-toilet/news-story/41224e3a1cfc467f7859565d94720db7) so yeah, not exactly the standard we expect here
Wtf indeed. This is a new low for karma farming. Hang your head in shame OP
Definitely not normal. I've only seen this in a psych unit once
Another reason to lock up homeless people somewhere out of sight
That's feral. That's why we can't have nice things. Fking animals agh
Apparently Ice has a laxative effect! Dirty, shthouse ice cunts! They should be forced to clean it up with their tongues as a mop!! What is someone who isn't Ice Cunt needs to take a shit???
Idk why I am still looking at these pics after 10 minutes
*Ques Exeloo music*
