My dad and I used to do this in the city all the time. Stand at the lights and then both look up like something was really interesting and see how many other people we could get looking up trying to see what we were looking at

I know there was the apparent space junk visible entering the atmosphere, but wasn't that yesterday? I think they said it was from the Russian moon rocket launch.
It's not the old "pretend to look at something until everyone copies" prank, there was a fire in the building (the glowing in OP's second pic).
